Blood is one of the most important and powerful elements in magical and religious symbology. As it is an essential substance for animal survival, it does not sound strange that through the ages blood has been given many significant symbolic values (both positive and negative). It can provide life, protection and prosperity in the same proportion that it can cause calamities, destruction and even death. In Opus agriculturae, a farming treatise written by Palladius (V AD), more specifically in Book I, Chapter 35, the author presents prescriptions to protect farms against scourges and climatic phenomena. He mentions some procedures in which blood is a fundamental component in the success of the prescriptions. The aim of the present article is to identify any magic power associated with these practices, their specific symbolic value, especially when related to menstrual blood and to other feminine elements with some magical or religious value. An evaluation is also made of the extent of these symbologies in the context of other practices and situations linked not only to agricultural magic, but to religion and to the ritual practices of other communities, whether in ancient times or not.

Educação, verdade e valor: diálogo com Nietzsche

This article shows some reflections on the dilemmas of contemporary education, especially those that go without a horizon of truth and value, that are foundation and justification for the setting up of the modern school. Such reflections are grounded in the texts of Friedrich Nietzsche to discuss the dissolution of metaphysics, regarded here as an element of destabilization of the symbolic repertoire of the school. It is suggested at the end, the recovery of the interpretive act as an alternative to the emptying of the concepts of truth and value and recognition of dialogue as a privileged place to get closer to temporary and circumstantial truth.

The aim of this article is to present theoretical-methodological reflections upon the design of the macrostructure of a passive Spanish-Portuguese dictionary for Brazilian learners. The study aims at approaching the duty concept (Sollen) within Kant´s moral philosophy. Taking into account the notion of moral duty as one of the central concepts in (and to) Kant's practical thought, and in an attempt to offer an elucidation of Kant’s quest (and development) by the supreme principle of moral – the fundaments of the moral value´s detaining action, we will investigate: i) what characterizes one action for duty, in Kant’s moral thought and, ii) why exactly, according to Kant, just the action, precisely for duty, is the only action with the genuine value, namely, the moral value.

Desconforto percebido em condutores de veículos baja: parâmetros para o design ergonômico do assento

O Projeto Baja SAE Brasil envolve várias competições relativas ao desempenho de equipes quanto ao projeto dos veículos desenvolvidos. Dentre as várias provas, são avaliadas as condições ergonômicas do condutor. O presente estudo objetivou avaliar a percepção do desconforto antes e após a realização da prova “enduro”. Participaram condutores titulares de seis equipes e os resultados apontam que o design do assento dos veículos deve ser desenvolvido com base em parâmetros ergonômicos.
