Gerontologian ja geriatrian pääkokoelma sijaitsee Terveystieteiden osastokirjastossa, jossa painettu yleiskokoelma koostuu 251 nimekkeestä monografioita. Kokoelmassa on runsaasti (38 %) sosiaaligerontologian kirjallisuutta, jolloin vanhenemisesta tarkastellaan yhteiskunnallisesta näkökulmasta. Kokoelmasta noin viidennes (22 %) on vanhenemiseen liittyviä yleisteoksia. Vanhenemista prosessina (13 %) ja geriatrista psykiatriaa (12 %) käsittelevät kirjat ovat myös selvästi edustettuina. Painettuja edelleen tulevia lehtiä on 3 kpl (Gerontechnology, Gerontologia, International Journal of Aging and Human Development). Sähkökirjoja on noin 150 nimekettä Ebrary-tietokannassa ja noin 40 nimekettä SpringerLink-tietokannassa. Lisäksi Books@Ovid, MDConcult ja Oxford Medical Handook Online -kokoelmissa yksi kirja. Tietosanakirjoja on 1 kpl (Encyclopedia of Gerontology). Sanastoja on 5 kpl( Hoidokki, Medical Subject Headings (MeSH), Sosiaali- ja terveydenhuollon sanasto, Swedish MeSH, Termix). Verkkolehtiä on kokoelmassa noin 80 nimekettä. ISI Web of Knowledge Journal Citation Reports -tietokannan listaamista 52 gerontologian & geriatrian lehdistä kokoelmissa on 38 nimekettä eli 73 prosenttia. Gerontologiaan ja geriatriaan liittyviä artikkeleita löytyy usean tieteenalan, kuten lääketieteen, hoitotieteen, kansanterveystieteen ja sosiaalitietieteiden, viitetietokannoista. Tietokantoja on noin 15-20, joista keskeisimpiä ovat esimerkiksi Medline, Web of Science ja Cinahl. Tämän lisäksi käytössä on useita lehtitietokantoja, esimerkiksi ScienceDirect ja EbscoHost.

Liiketaloustieteen pääkokoelma sijaitsee pääkirjastossa (Linnassa), jossa painettu yleis- ja käsikirjastokokoelma koostuu noin 10000 nimekkeestä monografioita (painettujen monografiasarjojen osat mukaan lukien). Monografiakokoelmasta kartoitettiin yhdeksän osa-aluetta. Johtamista käsitteli 29 % kirjoista (2930 nimekettä), joten se oli selvin painopisteala. Organisaatiota käsitteli 18 % (1751 nimekettä); kauppaa, markkinointia, mainontaa, asiakaspalvelua 16 % kirjoista (1573 nimekettä); yrittäjyyttä, yrityksen kehitysvaiheita ja yrityksen kokoa 12 % kirjoista (1225 nimekettä); sekä henkilöstöjohtamista 11 % (1102 nimekettä). Laskentatoimen (9 % / 910 nimekettä); materiaalitalouden, logistiikan ja tuotekehityksen (9 % / 862 nimekettä); yrityksen talouden (6 % / 595 nimekettä); sekä suhdetoiminnan ja organisaatioviestinnän (3 % / 296 nimekettä) osuudet kirjakokoelmasta olivat pienehköjä. Käsikirjaston noin 110 nimekkeen kokoelma sisälsi bibliografioita (12 nimekettä), alan standardeja, sanastoja, sanakirjoja, lyhennesanakirjoja, käsikirjoja, hakuteoksia ja hakemistoja sekä liikekirjeiden ja asiakirjojen oppaita. Painettuja lehtiä oli 16 nimekettä (Tilintarkastus – Laskentatoimi, Kauppalehti, Tilisanomat, Kauppalehti Optio, Fakta: talous ja tekniikka tänään, Liiketaloudellinen aikakauskirja, Ekonomi : Ekonomiuutiset – Ekonomnytt, Kuluttaja, Yrittäjä: suomalaisen yrittäjän ammattilehti, Markkinointi ja mainonta, Kehittyvä kauppa, Retail digest, Service industries journal, Myynti & markkinointi, KM Kaupan maailma ja Tampereen kauppakamari). Sähkökirjoja kokoelmassa oli yhteensä 1421 nimekettä: 11 suomalaista verkkokirjaa WSOYpro – yritysonline –tietokannassa; 13 kirjaston ostamaa verkkokirjaa WSOYpro – organisaation verkkokirjat –tietokannassa; 1311 nimekettä (subject-haulla Business) Ebrary –tietokannassa; 17 nimekettä NetLibrary -tietokannassa ja 69 liiketaloustieteen käsikirjaa Nellin E-käsikirjastossa. Verkkolehtiä kokoelmassa oli n. 691. Tietokantoja oli 14, joista kokotekstilehtiä EBSCOhost Academic Search Premier, EBSCOhost Business Search Elite, Emerald Journals, JSTOR, Sage Premier, ScienceDirect, Wiley Interscience, Scientific Journals International (Open Access aineisto) ja viitetietokantoja Econlit (Ebscohost), Helecon Classic, Helecon Mix, Helecon Scima, Helecon tietokanavat ja KULTU (kuluttajatutkimuksen tietokannat).

Tiedotustutkimuksen pääkokoelma sijaitsee pääkirjastossa (Linnassa), jossa painettu yleis- ja käsikirjastokokoelma koostuu lähes 5000 nimekkeestä monografioita (painettujen monografiasarjojen osat mukaan lukien). Monografiakokoelmasta kartoitettiin neljä osa-aluetta. Joukkoviestinnän teoriaa, metodologiaa ja vaikutuksia käsitteli 44 % kirjoista (2195 nimekettä), joten se oli selvin painopisteala. Radiota ja televisiota käsitteli 28 % (1383 nimekettä); lehdistöä 24 % (1198 nimekettä) sekä journalismia, uutisia ja toimitustyötä 22 % kirjoista (1088 nimekettä). Käsikirjaston noin 95 nimekkeen kokoelma sisälsi bibliografioita (58 nimekettä), sanastoja, sanakirjoja ja hakuteoksia. Painettuja lehtiä oli 13 nimekettä (Africa media review, Critical Studies in Television, Javnost - The Public, Journal of media business studies, Journalisti, Lähikuva, Media & viestintä, Medienwissenschaft : Rezensionen, Nordicom information, Suomen lehdistö, Utain, Vestnik Moskovskogo universiteta. Sähkökirjoja kokoelmassa oli yhteensä 499 nimekettä: 462 nimekettä Ebrary–tietokannassa,13 nimekettä NetLibrary -tietokannassa ja 24 viestinnän käsikirjaa Nellin E-käsikirjastossa. Verkkolehtiä kokoelmassa oli yhteensä 100. INTRODUÇÃO: Pacientes com doença renal crônica (DRC) têm capacidade física e funcional reduzida quando comparados à população geral. O tratamento hemodialítico torna as atividades desses pacientes restritas, favorecendo o estilo de vida sedentário e a limitação funcional. Pacientes em hemodiálise (HD) são menos ativos, apresentam baixa tolerância ao exercício e alto descondicionamento físico. Em virtude dessas alterações, têm sido propostos programas de exercício físico que visam não somente ao tratamento dos sinais clínicos da doença, mas de suas repercussões na função e na qualidade de vida. OBJETIVOS: Realizar uma revisão da literatura sobre os efeitos do exercício físico em pacientes portadores de DRC submetidos a programas de exercício aeróbio em cicloergômetro para membros inferiores durante a HD. MÉTODOS: Foram realizadas consultas às bases de dados Medline, PubMed, Scielo, Embase e ScienceDirect. RESULTADOS: Analisaram-se 14 estudos experimentais randomizados controlados, considerando o período de realização da intervenção na HD, a intensidade e a frequência do exercício, a duração da intervenção e os principais resultados. CONCLUSÃO: Os estudos demonstraram que exercícios aeróbios realizados durante a HD promovem a melhora da capacidade aeróbia e o condicionamento físico, além de redução da fadiga e ansiedade, melhora da capilarização muscular e pressão arterial de repouso, aumento no tempo de duração dos exercícios e melhora na depuração da ureia.

Transcription termination of messenger RNA (mRNA) is normally achieved by polyadenylation followed by Rat1p-dependent 5'-3' exoribonuleolytic degradation of the downstream transcript. Here we show that the yeast ortholog of the dsRNA-specific ribonuclease III (Rnt1p) may trigger Rat1p-dependent termination of RNA transcripts that fail to terminate near polyadenylation signals. Rnt1p cleavage sites were found downstream of several genes, and the deletion of RNT1 resulted in transcription readthrough. Inactivation of Rat1p impaired Rnt1p-dependent termination and resulted in the accumulation of 3' end cleavage products. These results support a model for transcription termination in which cotranscriptional cleavage by Rnt1p provides access for exoribonucleases in the absence of polyadenylation signals.

Highly conductive and transparent thin films of amorphous zinc indium tin oxide are prepared at room temperature by co-sputtering of zinc 10 oxide and indium tin oxide. Cationic contents in the films are varied by adjusting the power to the sputtering targets. Optical transmission study of 11 films showed an average transmission greater than 85% across the visible region. Maximum conductivity of 6×102 S cm−1 is obtained for Zn/In/ 12 Sn atomic ratio 0.4/0.4/0.2 in the film. Hall mobility strongly depends on carrier concentration and maximum mobility obtained is 18 cm2 V−1 s−1 13 at a carrier concentration of 2.1×1020 cm−3. Optical band gap of films varied from 3.44 eV to 3 eV with the increase of zinc content in the film 14 while the refractive index of the films at 600 nm is about 2.0.

We have investigated the crystallization characteristics of melt compounded nanocomposites of poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) and single walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs). Differential scanning calorimetry studies showed that SWNTs at weight fractions as low as 0.03 wt% enhance the rate of crystallization in PET, as the cooling nanocomposite melt crystallizes at a temperature 10 °C higher as compared to neat PET. Isothermal crystallization studies also revealed that SWNTs significantly accelerate the crystallization process. WAXD showed oriented crystallization of PET induced by oriented SWNTs in a randomized PET melt, indicating the role of SWNTs as nucleating sites.

Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II) complexes of dimethylglyoxime and N,N-ethylenebis(7-methylsalicylideneamine) have been synthesized in situ in Y zeolite by the reaction of ion-exchanged metal ions with the flexible ligand molecules that had diffused into the cavities. The hybrid materials obtained have been characterized by elemental analysis, SEM, XRD, surface area, pore volume, magnetic moment, FTIR, UV-Vis and EPR techniques. Analysis of data indicates the formation of complexes in the pores without affecting the zeolite framework structure, the absence of any extraneous species and the geometry of encapsulated complexes. The catalytic activities for hydrogen peroxide decomposition and oxidation of benzyl alcohol and ethylbenzene of zeolite complexes are reported. Zeolite Cu(II) complexes were found to be more active than the corresponding Co(II) and Ni(II) complexes for oxidation reactions. The catalytic properties of the complexes are influenced by their geometry and by the steric environment of the active sites. Zeolite complexes are stable enough to be reused and are suitable to be utilized as partial oxidation catalysts.

CoMo/gama-Al2O3 catalysts for hydrodesulphurisation activity were prepared by making use of the molecular designed dispersion (MDD) method. Molybdenum and cobalt pyrrolidine-N-carbodithioate (Pydtc) complexes were used for the incorporation of metals on the support. The catalysts were characterized by elemental analysis, low temperature oxygen chemisorption, temperature programmed reduction (TPR) and laser Raman spectroscopy. The hydrodesulphurisation activity of all the catalysts were carried out and results were compared with those of the catalysts prepared through the conventional method. Higher molybdenum dispersion, smaller molybdenum clusters, lower reduction temperature of catalyst and better hydrodesulphurisation activity were observed for the catalysts prepared through the MDD method

Zeolite Y-encapsulated ruthenium(III) complexes of Schiff bases derived from 3-hydroxyquinoxaline-2-carboxaldehyde and 1,2- phenylenediamine, 2-aminophenol, or 2-aminobenzimidazole (RuYqpd, RuYqap and RuYqab, respectively) and the Schiff bases derived from salicylaldehyde and 1,2-phenylenediamine, 2-aminophenol, or 2-aminobenzimidazole (RuYsalpd, RuYsalap and RuYsalab, respectively) have been prepared and characterized. These complexes, except RuYqpd, catalyze catechol oxidation by H2O2 selectively to 1,2,4-trihydroxybenzene. RuYqpd is inactive. A comparative study of the initial rates and percentage conversion of the reaction was done in all cases. Turn over frequency of the catalysts was also calculated. The catalytic activity of the complexes is in the order RuYqap > RuYqab for quinoxaline-based complexes and RuYsalap > RuYsalpd > RuYsalab for salicylidene-based complexes. The reaction is believed to proceed through the formation of a Ru(V) species.

Copper(II) complexes of two biologically important ligands, viz., embelin (2,5-dihydroxy-3-undecyl-2,5-cyclohexadien 1,4-dione) and 2-aminobenzimidazole were entrapped in the cages of zeolite Y by the flexible ligand method. The capability of these compounds in catalyzing the reduction of oxygen (industrially known as deoxo reaction) was explored and the results indicate an enhancement of the catalytic properties from that of the simple copper ion exchanged zeolite. These point to the ability of the ligands in enhancing the oxygen binding capability of the metal ion. Elemental analyses, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), diffuse reflectance and EPR spectral studies, magnetic susceptibility measurements, TG, surface area analyses and powder X-ray diffraction studies were used in understanding the presence, composition and structure of the complexes inside the cages. The study also reveals the increased thermal and mechanical stability of the complexes as a result of encapsulation.

Transition metal-loaded (3%) nanocrystalline sulfated titania (ST) powders are prepared using the sol–gel technique. Anatase is found as the active phase in all the samples. Sulfate ion impregnation decreases the crystallite size and stabilizes the anatase phase of TiO2. Acidity of the samples is found to increase by the incorporation of sulfate ion and also by the modification by transition metal ions. All the prepared catalysts are found stable up to 700 °C.

Various compositions of chromium manganese ferrospinels were tested as catalysts for the vapour phase alkylation of aniline with methanol. The samples were prepared by room temperature co-precipitation technique and characterized by various physico-chemical methods. The acidity–basicity determination revealed that the samples possess greater amount of basic sites than acidic sites. All the ferrite samples proved to be selective and active for N-monoalkylation of aniline leading to N-methyl aniline; Cr0.6Mn0.4Fe2O4, Cr0.8Mn0.2Fe2O4 and CrFe2O4 exhibited cent percent selectivity for N-methyl aniline. Neither C-alkylated products nor any other side products were detected for all catalyst samples. The catalytic activity of the samples studied in this reaction is related to their acid–base properties and also on the cation distribution. Under the optimized reaction conditions all the systems showed constant activity for a long duration.
