In this work, both, solid phase microextraction (SPME) and solid phase extraction(SPE) were used to enrich organochlorine compounds in water samples and analyzed by gas chromatography with electron capture detector. The operating conditions of SPME have been studied and different kinds of solid phase were compared. Linear alkybenzene sulfonate(LAS) was added to the samples to investigate its effect on the analysis. The results indicated that polyacrylate was better than other commercial solid phases in extraction of moderated polar organic compounds and the sensitivity of SPME was higher than SPE. LAS affect much in liquid-liquid extraction and headspace SPME; but it has little effect on SPE and direct-SPME method. The applications showed that SPME was a fast and effective method in sample preparation.

A non-linear perturbation model for river flow forecasting is developed, based on consideration of catchment wetness using an antecedent precipitation index (API). Catchment seasonality, of the form accounted for in the linear perturbation model (the LPM), and non-linear behaviour both in the runoff generation mechanism and in the flow routing processes are represented by a constrained nan-linear model, the NLPM-API. A total of ten catchments, across a range of climatic conditions and catchment area magnitudes, located in China and in other countries, were selected for testing daily rainfall-runoff forecasting with this model. It was found that the NLPM-API model was significantly more efficient than the original linear perturbation model (the LPM). However, restric tion of explicit nan-linearity to the runoff generation process, in the simpler LPM-API form of the model, did not produce a significantly lower value of the efficiency in flood forecasting, in terms of the model efficiency index R-2. The feasibility of an inexpensive wastewater treatment system is evaluated in this study. An integrated biological pond system was operated for more than 3 years to purify the wastewater from a medium-sized city, Central China. The experiment was conducted in 3 phases with different treatment combinations for testing their purification efficiencies. The pond system was divided into 3 functional regions: influent purification, effluent upgrading and multi-utilization. These regions were further divided into several zones and subzones. Various kinds of aquatic organisms, including macrophytes, algae, microorganisms and zooplankton, were effectively cooperating in the wastewater treatment in this system. The system attained high reductions of BOD5, COD, TSS, TN, TP and other pollutants. The purification efficiencies of this system were higher than those of most traditional oxidation ponds or ordinary macrophyte ponds. The mutagenic effect and numbers of bacteria and viruses declined significantly during the process of purification. After the wastewater flowed through the upgrading zone, the concentrations of pollutants and algae evidently decreased. Plant harvesting did not yield dramatic effects on reductions of the main pollutants, though it did significantly affect the biomass productivity of the macrophytes. The effluent from this system could be utilized in irrigation and aquaculture. Some aquatic products were harvested from this system and some biomass was utilized for food, fertilizer, fodder and some other uses. The wastewater was reclaimed for various purposes.

Salt water intrusion occurred frequently during dry season in Modaomen waterway of the Pearl River Estuary. With the development of region's economy and urbanization, the salt tides affect the region's water supply more and more seriously in recent years. Regulation and allocation of freshwater resources of the upper rivers of the estuary to suppress the salt tides is becoming important measures for ensuring the water supply security of the region in dry season. The observation data analysis showed that the flow value at the Wuzhou hydrometric station on the upper Xijiang river had a good correlation with the salinity in Modaomen estuary. Thus the flow rate of Wuzhou has been used as a control variable for suppression of salt tides in Modaomen estuary. However, the runoff at Wuzhou mainly comes from the discharge of Longtan reservoir on the upper reaches of Xijiang river and the runoff in the interval open valley between Longtan and Wuzhou sections. As the long distance and many tributaries as well as the large non-controlled watershed between this two sections, the reservoir water scheduling has a need for reasonable considering of interaction between the reservoir regulating discharge and the runoff process of the interval open watershed while the deployment of suppression flow at Wuzhou requires longer lasting time and high precision for the salt tide cycles. For this purpose, this study established a runoff model for Longtan - Wuzhou interval drainage area and by model calculations and observation data analysis, helped to understand the response patterns of the flow rate at Wuzhou to the water discharge of Longtan under the interval water basin runoff participating conditions. On this basis, further discussions were taken on prediction methods of Longtan reservoir discharge scheduling scheme for saline intrusion suppression and provided scientific and typical implementation programs for effective suppression flow process at the Wuzhou section.

The HIRFL (Heavy Ion Research Facility at Lanzhou) is a cyclotron complex. Its injector is a cector focusing cyclotron with K=69. Since the HIRFL started the operation in 1989, two bigger items of improvements have been finished, the species and intensity of the accelerated particles are increased obviously. But due to the lower extraction efficiency of the SFC, on one hand, a lot of beam lost, and on other hand, outgas from the surface of the electrostatic deflector is serious because of beam hitting. Even sometimes the vacuum press is destroyed. In the paper a new physical design is made to get an extraction system of the SFC with a higher efficiency.

In this paper, the extraction of Ce(IV) from nitric acid solutions is investigated using di-(2-ethylhexyl) 2-ethylhexyl phosphonate (DEHEHP, B) in heptane as extractant. Ce(IV) can be extracted effectively from nitric acid solution, whereas it is poorly extracted from sulfuric acid solution. Compared with some other organophosphorus esters, DEHEHP has moderate extractablity for Ce(IV). The extraction efficiency varies with diluent in the order: aliphatic hydrocarbons > nitrobenzene > aromatic hydrocarbons > carbon tetrachloride > chloroform. Regeneration and loading capacities of DEHEHP have also been examined. Ce(IV) extraction in HNO3 solutions as well as extraction of HNO3 and H2O have been systematically studied. The Ce(IV) extraction increases with an increasing of HNO3 concentration and exhibits the maximum distribution ratio at 1-1.5 mol/L HNO3. Nitric acid, as a source of nitrate ion, enhances the extraction of metal ion. But it also competes with metal ions for extractant molecules by its own extraction under high acidities. The proposed extraction process is described by the following equilibrium equations

The coordination reactions during the solvent extraction of cerium(IV) and fluorine(l) from mixed nitric acid and hydrofluoric acid solutions by di-(2-ethylhexyl)-2-ethylhexylphosphonate, L (DEHEHP) in heptane have been investigated. The extraction data have been analyzed by graphical methods taking into account all plausible species extracted into the organic phase. Different variables influencing the extraction of Ce(IV), such as the concentrations of nitrate ions, hydrofluroric acid, nitric acid, and extractant have been studied. The results demonstrate that DEHEHP can extract not only Ce(NO3)(4) as Ce(NO3)4.2L and HF as HF (.) H2O (.) L, but both together as Ce(HF)(NO3)(4) (.) L. The extraction equilibrium equations are determined according to slope analysis and IR spectra. The equilibrium constants of the extracted complexes have been calculated, taking into account complexation between the metal ion and inorganic ligands in the aqueous phase and all plausible complexes extracted into the organic phase. It is also shown that boric acid, which was added into the mixed solutions to complex with F(I) is not extracted by DEHEHP, and neither does it affect the extraction of cerium(IV) and HF, nor change the extraction mechanism.

Synergistic extraction of trivalent rare earths (RE=Sc, Y, La, Gd, Yb) from hydrochloride medium using mixture of bis(2,4,4-trimethylpentyl)phosphinic acid (HL, Cyanex272) and Sec-nonylphenoxy acetic acid (HA, CA-100) in n-heptane has been studied. The synergistic enhancement coefficients were observed for La (1.30), Gd (1.97), Y (3.59), Yb (8.21) and Sc (14.41). The results indicated yttrium was extracted into n-heptane as YH(5)A(4)L(4) mixed species instead of Y(HL2)(3), Y(OH)(2)A(HA)(3) which were extracted by Cyanex272 and CA-100, respectively. A cation exchange mechanism was proposed and further clarified by IR spectra. The equilibrium constants, formation constants and thermodynamic functions such as Delta G, Delta H and Delta S were determined. The Cyanex272 + CA-100 system not only enhanced the extraction efficiency of RE but also improved the selectivities significantly. The mutual separation factors of these ions suggested the mixture system would be of practical value in extraction and separation of rare earths.

The interfacial behavior of sec-nonylphenoxy acetic acid (CA-100) at various diluents/(H, Na)Cl interfaces was examined using the Du Nouy ring method. Different adsorption isotherms such as the Gibbs and Szyszkowski were in good agreement with the experimental data. The values of interfacial excess at saturated interface increase in the following order: n-heptane > kerosene > cyclohexane > CCl4 > toluene > benzene > chloroform. The effects of temperature, acidity, and ionic strength of the aqueous phase on the interfacial activity of CA- 100 were also examined. The interfacial-activity data were used to discuss the mechanism and kinetics of yttrium (Y) extraction.

Such physicochemical properties of sec-nonylphenoxy acetic acid (CA-100) as the solubility in water, acid dissociation constant in water, dimerization constant in heptane, and distribution constant in organic solvent-water were measured by two-phase titration. The extraction behaviors of scandium (III), yttrium (III), lanthanides (III), and divalent metal ions from hydrochloric acid solutions with CA-100 in heptane have been investigated, and the possibilities of separating scandium (yttrium) from lanthanides and divalent metal ions have been carefully discussed. The stoichiometries of the extracted metal complexes were investigated by the slope-analysis technique. The effect of the nature of diluent on the extraction of yttrium (III) with CA100 has been studied and correlated with the dielectric constant.

The extraction of zinc(II) and cadmium(II) from chloride solution by mixtures of primary amine N1923 and Cyanex272 (HA) was studied. The synergistic effect was observed for the extraction of zinc(II) while no synergistic effect for cadmium(II), which makes it possible to separate zine(II) and cadmium(II) with the mixtures. The results showed that zinc(II) was extracted as (RNH3Cl)(3) . ZnCIA instead of ZnA(2) . 2HA which was extracted by Cyanex272 alone. The extraction mechanism was discussed and the formation constants and thermodynamic functions were determined. The separation factors between zinc(II) and cadmium(II) were calculated.

Extraction and interfacial kinetics of Nd3+ and Sm3+ with HER/EHP-kerosene in a hollow fiber membrane extractor were studied. The results show that the extraction reactions in the hollow fiber membrane extractor are the same as those in the liquid-liquid extraction, which can be expressed as a quasi-first-order reaction. The effect of acidity in aqueous phase, concentrations of extractant, Nd3+ and Sm3+ on extraction rate were discussed and the corresponding reaction series were obtained. The reaction equations, reaction rate constants and the separation constant were obtained.

The Yttrium(III) extraction kinetics and mechanism with secnonylphonoxy acetic acid (CA-100) were investigated by a constant interfacial cell with laminar flow. The studies of interfacial tension and solubility of extractant and effects of the stirring rate, temperature, specific interfacial area and species concentration on the extraction rate showed that the extraction regime was dependent on the extraction conditions and the most probable reaction zone was at the liquid-liquid interface. The rate equation of extracting yttrium by CA-100 in heptane was Rf = k[Y3+]((a))[H(2)A(2)]((o))(0.88)[H+]((a))(-1.08).
