This paper explores the concept of Value Stream Analysis and Mapping (VSA/M) as applied to Product Development (PD) efforts. Value Stream Analysis and Mapping is a method of business process improvement. The application of VSA/M began in the manufacturing community. PD efforts provide a different setting for the use of VSA/M. Site visits were made to nine major U.S. aerospace organizations. Interviews, discussions, and participatory events were used to gather data on (1) the sophistication of the tools used in PD process improvement efforts, (2) the lean context of the use of the tools, and (3) success of the efforts. It was found that all three factors were strongly correlated, suggesting success depends on both good tools and lean context. Finally, a general VSA/M method for PD activities is proposed. The method uses modified process mapping tools to analyze and improve process.

Analizar la relaci??n entre el clima motivacional percibido, la orientaci??n de meta, la motivaci??n intr??nseca y las opiniones y comportamientos de fair play en deportistas cadetes de Primera Divisi??n de la Liga Espa??ola de F??tbol. La creencia popular de que el deporte es una actividad sociocultural que permite el enriquecimiento del individuo en el seno de la sociedad, es casi tan antigua como sus or??genes. Sin embargo, deporte y deportividad son t??rminos que, a pesar de tener un origen com??n, cada vez parecen m??s distanciados, al menos en alguna de las manifestaciones del deporte contempor??neo. A tenor de diferentes hallazgos que se recogen en el trabajo, la idea de que la participaci??n en el deporte, garantiza la formaci??n del car??cter debe replantearse. Es m??s, en al menos deportes de contacto medio y alto, puede tener efectos negativos en el razonamiento moral e incrementar la agresividad. ??Son este tipo de deportes perjudiciales en s?? mismos? ??Su l??gica interna lleva a que los deportistas acaben salt??ndose las reglas y a comportarse de una manera moralmente inaceptable? Este trabajo formula la hip??tesis de que la teor??a de meta de logro puede arrojar algo de luz sobre estas cuestiones. La hip??tesis en la que se fundamenta la investigaci??n es que el clima de Maestr??a se relaciona positivamente con la orientaci??n hacia la tarea, con la motivaci??n intr??nseca y con las opiniones y conductas pro-fair play, mientras que, por el contrario, el clima de ejecuci??n lo hace con la orientaci??n de meta hacia el ego, con la ansiedad y con las conductas anti-fair play. La muestra estuvo compuesta de un total de 82 jugadores cadetes de Primera Divisi??n de la Liga Espa??ola de F??tbol, pertenecientes al Principado de Asturias seleccionados al azar, con edades comprendidas entre los 14 y 16 a??os. Los participantes fueron sometidos voluntariamente a los siguientes cuestionarios e instrumentos de medida: el Cuestionario de Clima Motivacional Percibido en el Deporte (PMCSQ-2)de Newton y Duda (1998); el Cuestionario de Percepci??n de ??xito (POSQ) elaborado por Roberts y Balagu?? (1989); el Cuestionario de Diversi??n de los sujetos con la Pr??ctica Deportiva (CDPD) elaborado por Duda y Nicholls (1992); el Test de Motivaci??n de Logro en Educaci??n F??sica (MEF) elaborado por Nishida (1988); y la Escala de Actitudes de Fairplay (Cruz, Capdevila, Boixad??s, Pintanel, Alonso, Mimbrero y Torregrosa, 1996). Se realizaron an??lisis factoriales confirmatorios, correlaciones bivariadas y can??nicas, y an??lisis de regresi??n.

“What is value in product development?” is the key question of this paper. The answer is critical to the creation of lean in product development. By knowing how much value is added by product development (PD) activities, decisions can be more rationally made about how to allocate resources, such as time and money. In order to apply the principles of Lean Thinking and remove waste from the product development system, value must be precisely defined. Unfortunately, value is a complex entity that is composed of many dimensions and has thus far eluded definition on a local level. For this reason, research has been initiated on “Measuring Value in Product Development.” This paper serves as an introduction to this research. It presents the current understanding of value in PD, the critical questions involved, and a specific research design to guide the development of a methodology for measuring value. Work in PD value currently focuses on either high-level perspectives on value, or detailed looks at the attributes that value might have locally in the PD process. Models that attempt to capture value in PD are reviewed. These methods, however, do not capture the depth necessary to allow for application. A methodology is needed to evaluate activities on a local level to determine the amount of value they add and their sensitivity with respect to performance, cost, time, and risk. Two conceptual tools are proposed. The first is a conceptual framework for value creation in PD, referred to here as the Value Creation Model. The second tool is the Value-Activity Map, which shows the relationships between specific activities and value attributes. These maps will allow a better understanding of the development of value in PD, will facilitate comparison of value development between separate projects, and will provide the information necessary to adapt process analysis tools (such as DSM) to consider value. The key questions that this research entails are: · What are the primary attributes of lifecycle value within PD? · How can one model the creation of value in a specific PD process? · Can a useful methodology be developed to quantify value in PD processes? · What are the tools necessary for application? · What PD metrics will be integrated with the necessary tools? The research milestones are: · Collection of value attributes and activities (September, 200) · Development of methodology of value-activity association (October, 2000) · Testing and refinement of the methodology (January, 2001) · Tool Development (March, 2001) · Present findings at July INCOSE conference (April, 2001) · Deliver thesis that captures a formalized methodology for defining value in PD (including LEM data sheets) (June, 2001) The research design aims for the development of two primary deliverables: a methodology to guide the incorporation of value, and a product development tool that will allow direct application.

This paper presents the findings of a podcasting trial held in 2007-2008 within the Faculty of Economics and Business at the University of Sydney, Australia. The trial investigates the value of using short-format podcasts to support assessment for postgraduate and undergraduate students. A multi-method approach is taken in investigating perceptions of the benefits of podcasting, incorporating surveys, focus groups and interviews. The results show that a majority of students believe they gained learning benefits from the podcasts and appreciated the flexibility of the medium to support their learning, and the lecturers felt the innovation helped diversify their pedagogical approach and support a diverse student population. Three primary conclusions are presented: (1) most students reject the mobile potential of podcasting in favour of their traditional study space at home; (2) what students and lecturers value about this podcasting design overlap; (3) the assessment-focussed, short-format podcast design may be considered a successful podcasting model. The paper finishes by identifying areas for future research on the effective use of podcasting in learning and teaching.

Analizar el estado actual de actitudes, comportamientos y valores de los jóvenes jugadores de fútbol en Mallorca. Diseñar un protocolo de intervención para mejorar la deportividad. Intervenir sobre un grupo experimental para promocionar la deportividad. Comprobar la idoneidad de la intervención. Medir las actitudes, comportamientos y valores post intervención. Implementar un protocolo para la formación de técnicos deportivos. . 245 sujetos con edades comprendidas entre los 14 y los 16 años, en un muestreo estratificado aleatorio de diferentes equipos de fútbol de primera división regional categoría cadete. 74 partidos de fútbol grabados a vídeo correspondientes a las jornadas 5, 6, 7 y 2, 13, 14 de la categoría anteriormente citada. . Diseño de la intervención. Variables: comportamientos (comportamientos favorables al fair play, comportamientos contrarios al fair play y faltas de contacto), actitudes (frente a la victoria, frente al juego duro, frente a la diversión), valores (logro, diversión, victoria,...). . SVQ, Sport Value Questionnaire, (Lee y Cols, 2000); formado por 23 ítems que analiza 18 valores. EAF, Escala de Actitudes de Fairplay (Boixadós, 1998), formado por 22 ítems que analiza tres factores, actitud victoria, actitud juego duro, actitud diversión. IOFF, Instrumento de Observación de Fairplay en Fútbol (Boixadós, 1996), consta de 19 categorías para medir tres bloques conductuales, comportamientos favorables al fair play, comportamientos contrarios al fair play y faltas de contacto. . Intervención: modelaje participante. Toma de datos: pase de cuestionarios y filmación de partidos de fútbol. Análisis de datos: actitudes y valores (comparación de medias con 'T de Student'), comportamientos (comparación de medias con 'U de Mann-whithney' y 'F de Snedecor'. . Comportamientos: intervención eficaz en comportamientos; 29 por ciento más de conductas positivas, 3 por ciento menos de conductas negativas y 26 por ciento de faltas de contacto. No se observan diferencias en función del nivel de clasificación y lugar de procedencia. Actitudes: intervención no eficaz en actitudes. Valores muy altos en inicio en actitudes prosociales. Valores: intervención eficaz en valores. Estructura de valores similar a otras poblaciones. . El nivel de deportividad de los futbolistas cadetes de Mallorca es similar a otras poblaciones (Cataluña y Gran Bretaña). La intervención ha resultado muy satisfactoria en comportamientos. No se consiguen cambios en las actitudes. La estructura de valores coincide con otras poblaciones catalanas y británicas. Los valores puntuados como más importantes son diversión logro y autorealización. El valor puntuado como menos importante es ganar. La promoción de la deportividad, fair play y valores sociales positivos a través del deporte no se consigue por si solo, sino que necesita de una intervención específica con ese objetivo. El deporte en edad escolar es un contexto abierto y que depende de la intencionalidad de la acción. La intervención diseñada en esta tesis se muestra especialmente idónea para la promoción de comportamientos relacionados con la deportividad y la reducción de la violencia en el deporte.
