There is a wide catalogue of possible solutions to solve the problem of party shoes and, by extension, corner shoes as a special case of the above. From all of them, the most commonly used in building structures are, on one hand, the use of a centering beam that connects the party shoe with the shoe of the nearest interior pillar and, on the other hand, the collaboration of the beam of the first floor working as a tie rod. In the first proposed solution, the balance of the party shoe and the centering of the ground response is achieved thanks to the collaboration of the interior pillar with his foundation along with the bending work of the centering beam. Classical modeling considers that a whole centering of the ground reaction is achieved, with uniform contact stress distribution under both shoes. This approach to the issue presupposes that the centering beam manages to avoid any rotation of the party shoe, so the pillar can be considered perfectly embedded in the foundation. In this first model, the leading role lies in the centering beam, whose bending work usually leads to important section sizes and high amounts of reinforced. The second solution, consideres the collaboration of the beam of the first floor, working as tie rod. Again, conventional methods involve a total success in the stabilizing mechanism of the tie rod, that manages to avoid any rotation of the party shoe, resulting in a stress distribution also uniform. Existing conventional models for calculating such foundations show, therefore, a series of simplifications which allow calculation of the same, by manual means, in a reasonable time, but have the disadvantage of the possible distance from the real behavior of the foundation, with the negative consequences this could bring in the dimensioning of these structural elements. The present thesis develops a contrast of conventional models of calculation of party and corner foundations by an alternative analysis with finite element models with the aim of bring to light the differences between the results obtained with both types of modeling, analysis which are the variables that influence the real behavior of this type of foundations and propose a new calculation model, conventional type, more adjusted to reality. The research process is developed through a virtual experimental stage using as a model a typical building frame, orthogonal, made of reinforced concrete, with two openings and variable number of floors. After identifying the possible spin of the foundation as the key element in the behavior of the party and corner shoes, it has been adopted as study variables, those that may have greater influence on the spin of the shoes and on the rigidity of the whole structural element. So, it have been studied lights from 3 m to 7 m, different number of floors from lower floor + 1 to lower floor + 4, máximum ground stresses from 100 kN/m2 300 kN/m2, shape relationships of party shoe 1,5:1 and 2:1, increase and decrease of the amount of reinforced of the centering beam and variation of the height of the centering beam from the minimum compatible with the anchoring of the reinforcement of pillars to an increase of 75% from the minimum quoted height. The set of frames generated by applying the indicated variables, is calculated both by conventional methods such as by the finite element method. The results show significant discrepancies between the two methods that lead to significant differences in the dimensioning of this type of foundation. The use of traditional methods results, on one hand, to an overdimensioning of the reinforced of the centering beam and, on the other hand, to an underdimensioning, both the height of the centering beam, such as the size of the party shoe and the reinforced of the beam of the first floor. After the analysis and discussion of results, the thesis proposes a new alternative method, conventional type and, therefore, applicable to a manual calculation in a reasonable time, that allows to obtain the key parameters that govern the behavior of party and corner shoes, leading to a dimensioning more adjusted to the real needings of this type of foundation.

ABSTRACT Photogrammetry, as science and technique for obtaining three-dimensional information of the space object from two-dimensional images, requires measurements of precision and in that context, the geometric camera calibration occupies an important place. The knowledge of the internal geometry of the camera is fundamental to achieve greater precision in measurements made. Metric cameras (manufactured exclusively for cartographic applications), including photographic lenses with complex lenses and high quality systems are used in Aerial Photogrammetry. But in Close Range Photogrammetry is working increasingly more frequently with non-metric cameras, worst quality optical components which require a geometric calibration before or after each job. The calibration process contains three fundamental concepts: camera model, distortion model and method of calibration. The camera model is a mathematical model that approximates the original projective transformation to the physical reality of the lenses. The mathematical model includes a series of parameters which include the correspondents to the model of distortion, which is in charge of correcting the systematic errors of the image. Finally, the calibration method proposes the method of estimation of the parameters of the mathematical modeling and optimization technique to employ. This Thesis is proposing the use of a pattern of two dimensional calibration that moves in the direction of the optical axis of the camera, thus offering three-dimensionality to the photographed scene. The pattern includes a large number of marks, which allows testing with different geometric configurations. Taking the projection model perspective (or pinhole) as a model of camera, tests are performed with three different models of distortion, the classical of distortion radial and tangential proposed by D.C. Brown, an approximation by Legendre polynomials and bicubic interpolation. From the combination of different geometric configurations and the most suitable distortion model, brings the establishment of a methodology for optimal calibration. To help the election, a study of the information obtained in the various tests and a purpose built test panel stereoscopic control is performed.

We prove global existence and uniqueness of strong solutions to the logarithmic porous medium type equation with fractional diffusion ?tu + (?)1/2 log(1 + u) = 0, posed for x ? R, with nonnegative initial data in some function space of LlogL type. The solutions are shown to become bounded and C? smooth in (x, t) for all positive times. We also reformulate this equation as a transport equation with nonlocal velocity and critical viscosity, a topic of current relevance. Interesting functional inequalities are involved.

ABSTRACT This thesis deals with the works in architecture from Antonio Vallejo Álvarez (b. 1903, g. 1928, d. 2002) whose long career enables us to concentrate on the evolution of the Spanish Architecture from the Academicism taking place at the beginning of XXth century , until the influence of the Modern Movement, taking also into account Racionalism. Antonio Vallejo was born in Almonacid de Zorita, a village in the province of Guadalajara small but unique because then Salto de Bolarque the crucial energy facility at the time also housed elements of classical architecture is built. His family sent him to study to Madrid in Escuelas Pías de San Fernando first, and then he attended lessons in the old Architecture school from Escritorios street belonging this last one to la Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando. Once he finished his degree on Architecture, he worked on some historicist buildings with a great use of academicist stylemes which will be disappearing little by little, turning into “deco”. From this depurationn, whose traces can be found in 69, 73, 62 at Viriato street in Madrid, our architect ends up with a first racionalism in which balconies and flown bodies are suspended on a racionalist and orthogonal more and more rigid. At that time, he was also working in the Information Office in Madrid Town Hall together with Bernardo Giner de los Ríos y Fernando García Mercadal, among others. Later, he worked for Bernardo Giner de los Ríos in the School Building Offices until the breaking out of the Civil War. Under Salmón law, he founded a developer for buildings named Ar-In, where he developed a type of Architecture in which racionalism develops a magnificent expressive force, empowered by great terraced balconies with higienistain court. His great masterpieces at this time are the buildings from Narvaez opposite to Alcalde Sáinz de Baranda and the block in 75 Guzmán El Bueno, in Madrid. Civil war interrupts somehow his process and once the war is over, our architect works on the survival of racionalism by overlapping on large bodies of brick elevation occupying different floor plants, on a base of granite on the ground floor and a sort of portico framing the gaps in the attic by way of auction. On the Windows he se colocan embocaduras de caliza de diversas formas. This type of architecture, very much enjoyed at that time, will be sublimed as a great example of manierism in his great work such as the case of Agustinos Recoletos Residence and Santa Rita Church in Madrid. About fifteen years after the war, in the post-war era, Vallejo starts a process which we could call structuralist, as lons as the asumption from the situation of the structure in the building and the created module define his main features. Here, once our architect works with reinforce concrete in some of his buildings such as Residencial Bellas Vistas de Madrid, he improves his technique with steel strucutres such as the on in the school Sagrado Corazón in Guadalajara. It is also remarkable to speak about the province of Almería, where our architect arrives inmediately after the civil war, to get rid of the consequences of his loyalty to the Republic movement to which he collaborated until his death. He developed a great career as a builder there through Duarín SA, which was launched though his former enterprise. Similary as the way he worked in Madrid,he, also as an arquitect, did his work in Almería with less environmental pressure though, fact which contributed to the flourishing of the structuralist architecture, as an heir from his first racionalism, as it can be shown from buildings in streets such as 18 Juan Pérez, and 19 Paseo de la Estación.

In this paper we present a recurrent procedure to solve an inversion problem for monic bivariate Krawtchouk polynomials written in vector column form, giving its solution explicitly. As a by-product, a general connection problem between two vector column of monic bivariate Krawtchouk families is also explicitly solved. Moreover, in the non monic case and also for Krawtchouk families, several expansion formulas are given, but for polynomials written in scalar form.

Progesterone (P) powerfully inhibits gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) secretion in ewes, as in other species, but the neural mechanisms underlying this effect remain poorly understood. Using an estrogen (E)-free ovine model, we investigated the immediate GnRH and luteinizing hormone (LH) response to acute manipulations of circulating P concentrations and whether this response was mediated by the nuclear P receptor. Simultaneous hypophyseal portal and jugular blood samples were collected over 36 hr: 0–12 hr, in the presence of exogenous P (P treatment begun 8 days earlier); 12–24 hr, P implant removed; 24–36 hr, P implant reinserted. P removal caused a significant rapid increase in the GnRH pulse frequency, which was detectable within two pulses (175 min). P insertion suppressed the GnRH pulse frequency even faster: the effect detectable within one pulse (49 min). LH pulsatility was modulated identically. The next two experiments demonstrated that these effects of P are mediated by the nuclear P receptor since intracerebroventricularly infused P suppressed LH release but 3α-hydroxy-5α-pregnan-20-one, which operates through the type A γ-aminobutyric acid receptor, was without effect and pretreatment with the P-receptor antagonist RU486 blocked the ability of P to inhibit LH. Our final study showed that P exerts its acute suppression of GnRH through an E-dependent system because the effects of P on LH secretion, lost after long-term E deprivation, are restored after 2 weeks of E treatment. Thus we demonstrate that P acutely inhibits GnRH through an E-dependent nuclear P-receptor system.

Dynamic combinatorial libraries are mixtures of compounds that exist in a dynamic equilibrium and can be driven to compositional self adaptation via selective binding of a specific assembly of certain components to a molecular target. We present here an extension of this initial concept to dynamic libraries that consists of two levels, the first formed by the coordination of terpyridine-based ligands to the transition metal template, and the second, by the imine formation with the aldehyde substituents on the terpyridine moieties. Dialdehyde 7 has been synthesized, converted into a variety of ligands, oxime ethers L11–L33 and acyl hydrazones L44–L77, and subsequently into corresponding cobalt complexes. A typical complex, Co(L22)22+ is shown to engage in rapid exchange with a competing ligand L11 and with another complex, Co(L22)22+ in 30% acetonitrile/water at pH 7.0 and 25°C. The exchange in the corresponding Co(III) complexes is shown to be much slower. Imine exchange in the acyl hydrazone complexes (L44–L77) is strongly controlled by pH and temperature. The two types of exchange, ligand and imine, can thus be used as independent equilibrium processes controlled by different types of external intervention, i.e., via oxidation/reduction of the metal template and/or change in the pH/temperature of the medium. The resulting double-level dynamic libraries are therefore named orthogonal, in similarity with the orthogonal protecting groups in organic synthesis. Sample libraries of this type have been synthesized and showed the complete expected set of components in electrospray ionization MS.

We describe here a method to generate combinatorial libraries of oligonucleotides mutated at the codon-level, with control of the mutagenesis rate so as to create predictable binomial distributions of mutants. The method allows enrichment of the libraries with single, double or larger multiplicity of amino acid replacements by appropriate choice of the mutagenesis rate, depending on the concentration of synthetic precursors. The method makes use of two sets of deoxynucleoside-phosphoramidites bearing orthogonal protecting groups [4,4′-dimethoxytrityl (DMT) and 9-fluorenylmethoxycarbonyl (Fmoc)] in the 5′ hydroxyl. These phosphoramidites are divergently combined during automated synthesis in such a way that wild-type codons are assembled with commercial DMT-deoxynucleoside-methyl-phosphoramidites while mutant codons are assembled with Fmoc-deoxynucleoside-methyl-phosphoramidites in an NNG/C fashion in a single synthesis column. This method is easily automated and suitable for low mutagenesis rates and large windows, such as those required for directed evolution and alanine scanning. Through the assembly of three oligonucleotide libraries at different mutagenesis rates, followed by cloning at the polylinker region of plasmid pUC18 and sequencing of 129 clones, we concluded that the method performs essentially as intended.

We outline here a proof that a certain rational function Cn(q, t), which has come to be known as the “q, t-Catalan,” is in fact a polynomial with positive integer coefficients. This has been an open problem since 1994. Because Cn(q, t) evaluates to the Catalan number at t = q = 1, it has also been an open problem to find a pair of statistics a, b on the collection

We construct an Euler product from the Hecke eigenvalues of an automorphic form on a classical group and prove its analytic continuation to the whole complex plane when the group is a unitary group over a CM field and the eigenform is holomorphic. We also prove analytic continuation of an Eisenstein series on another unitary group, containing the group just mentioned defined with such an eigenform. As an application of our methods, we prove an explicit class number formula for a totally definite hermitian form over a CM field.

The H-2Ld alloreactive 2C T cell receptor (TCR) is commonly considered as being positively selected on the H-2Kb molecule. Surprisingly, 2C TCR+ CD8+ single-positive T cells emerge in massive numbers in fetal thymic organ culture originating from 2C transgenic, H-2KbDb−/− (2C+KbDb−/−) but not in fetal thymic organ culture from β2-microglobulin−/− 2C transgenic animals. Mature CD8+ T cells are observed in newborn but not in adult 2C+KbDb−/− mice. These CD8+ T cells express the α4β7 integrin, which allows them to populate the intestine, a pattern of migration visualized by intrathymic injection of FITC and subsequent accrual of FITC-labeled lymphocytes in the gut. We conclude that the 2C TCR is reactive not only with H-2Ld and H-2Kb, but also with nonclassical MHC class I products to enable positive selection of 2C+ T cells in the fetal and newborn thymus and to support their maintenance in the intestine.
