Within the framework of a nonlinear chiral Lagrangian we explore the nontrivial nature of f(0)(600) and f(0)(1370) in terms of quarkonium, tetraquark and gluonium components. The mass constraints are obtained and the strong and radiative partial widths are calculated to demonstrate and discriminate these components. The static properties of f(0)(1500) and glueball are also studied. Our results are confronted with the experimental and theoretical data available as well as the upcoming measurements. The vertical growth of shoots of the seagrass Thalassia testudinum Banks ex Konig in four meadows, along a range of exposure to waves, in the Mexican Caribbean was examined to elucidate its magnitude and its relationship to sediment dynamics. Average internodal length varied between 0.17 and 12.75 mm, and was greatest in the meadow which experienced the greatest burial by sand waves moved by Hurricane Gilbert (September 1988). Internodal length showed annual cycles, confirmed by the flower scars always preceding or coinciding with the annual minimum internodal length. These annual cycles on the shoot allowed estimation of annual leaf production, which varied, on average, between 14.2 and 19.3 leaves per shoot year-1. High vertical shoot growth was associated with long internodes and high leaf production rate, which increased with increasing vertical shoot growth to a maximum of approximately 25 leaves per shoot year-1, with vertical growth of about 30 mm year-1 or more. Average internodal length showed substantial interannual differences from perturbations derived from the passage of Hurricane Gilbert. The growth response of the plants surviving moderate burial and erosion after the hurricane involved enhanced vertical growth and increased leaf production, and reduced vertical growth, respectively, after 1988. The variability in shoot vertical growth of T testudinum can be separated into seasonal changes in plant growth, and long-term variability associated with episodic perturbations involving sediment redistribution by hurricanes.

In this article, vertical structure p-type permeable-base organic transistors were proposed and demonstrated. A hole-type organic semiconductor N,N-'-diphentyl-N,N-'-bis(1-naphthylphenyl)-1,1(')-biphenyl-4,4(')-diamine was used as emitter and collector. In the permeable-base transistors, the metal base was formed by firstly coevaporating Al and Ca in vacuum and then annealing at 120 degrees C for 5 min in air, followed by a thin Al deposition. These devices show a common-base current gain of near 1.0 and a common-emitter current gain of similar to 270.

In this paper, BPO4-xSiO(2) (X: SiO2/BPO4 molar ratio, 0-70%) and BPO4-xAl(2)O(3) (X: Al2O3/BPO4 molar ratio, 0-20%) powder samples were prepared by the Pechini-type sol-gel (PSG) process using glycerol and poly(ethylene glycol) as additives. The structure and optical properties of the resulting samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), diffuse reflection spectra, photoluminescence (PL) excitation and emission spectra, kinetic decay, and X-ray photoelectron spectra (XPS), respectively. It was found that the Pechini-type sol-gel-derived BPO4-xSiO(2) annealed at 1000 degrees C and BPO4-xAl(2)O(3) annealed at 960 degrees C exhibited bright bluish-white emissions centered at 428 and 413 nm, respectively. The luminescence decay curve analysis indicates that each sample has two kinds of lifetimes (more than 0.4 ms and less than 10 ns) and two types of kinetic decay behaviors, which can be fitted into a double-exponential function and a single-exponential function, respectively.

In this work we present a permeable base transistor consisting of a 60 nm thick N,N'diphenyl-N,N'-bis(1-naphthylphenyl)-1,1'-biphenyl-4,4'-diamine layer or a 40 nm thick 2,6-diphenyl-indenofluorene layer as the emitter, a CalAl/Ca multilayer as the metal base, and p-Si as collector. In the base, the Ca layers are 5 nm thick and the Al layer was varied between 10 and 40 nm. the best results obtained with a 20 nm thick layer. The devices present common-base current gain with both organic layer and silicon acting as emitter, but there is only observable common-emitter current gain when the organic semiconductor acts as emitter. The obtained common-emitter current gain, similar to 2, is independent on collector-emitter voltage, base current and organic emitter in a reasonable wide interval. Air exposure or annealing of the base is necessary to achieve these characteristics, indicating that an oxide layer is beneficial to proper device operation.

A two-step template-induced vertical deposition technique was introduced to fabricate the colloidal crystal heterostructures due to wettability differences and spatial confinement of the templates structured with microchannels. The heterostructures exhibited a bi-frequency Bragg diffraction whose position was determined by the microsphere diameter of the opals. It was demonstrated that the channel width had an influence on the optical properties of the colloidal crystal heterostructures. The strategy proposed is suited for fabrication of different micron-sized opal architectures with complex form and designed optical functionality.

We demonstrate the production of copper phthalocyanine (CuPc) based p-type hybrid permeable-base transistors, which operate at low voltages having high common-base current gains. These transistors are prepared by evaporating a thin metal layer (Ag or Al) that acts as base on top of a Si substrate that acts as collector. In the sequence CuPc and Au are thermally sublimated to produce the emitter, constituting a quite simple device production procedure with the additional advantage of allowing higher integration due to its vertical architecture.

We report the construction of hybrid permeable-base transistors, in vertical architecture, using tris(8-hydroxyquinoline) aluminum as emitter, a thin gold layer as base, and n-type silicon as collector. These transistors present high common-base current gain, can be operated at low driving voltages, and allow high current density.

A study of potassium ion transfer across a water \ 1,2-dichloroethane (W \ DCE) interface facilitated by dibenzo-18-crown-6 (DB18C6) with various phase volume ratio systems is presented. The key point was that a droplet of aqueous solution containing a redox couple, Fe(CN)(6)(3-)/Fe(CN)(6)(4-), with equal molar ratio, was first attached to a platinum electrode surface, and the resulting droplet electrode was then immersed into the organic solution containing a hydrophobic electrolyte to construct a platinum electrode/aqueous phase/organic phase system. The interfacial potential of the W \ DCE within the series could be externally controlled because the specific compositions in the aqueous droplet make the Pt electrode function like a reference electrode as long as the concentration ratio of Fe(CN)(6)(3-)/Fe(CN)(6)(4-) remains constant. In this way, a conventional three-electrode potentiostat can be used to study the ion transfer process at a liquid \ liquid (L \ L) interface facilitated by an ionophore with variable phase volume ratio (r = V-o/V-w). The effect of r on ion transfer and facilitated ion transfer was studied in detail experimentally. We also demonstrated that as low as 5 x 10(-8) M DB18C6 could be determined using this method due to the effect of the high phase volume ratio.

Shear may shift the phase boundary towards the homogeneous state (shear induced mixing, SIM), or in the opposite direction (shear induced demixing, SID). SIM is the typical behavior of mixtures of components of low molar mass and polymer solutions, SID can be observed with solutions of high molar mass polymers and polymer blends at higher shear rates. The typical sequence with increasing shear rate is SIM, then occurrence of an isolated additional immiscible area (SLD), melting of this island into the main miscibility gap, and finally SIM again. A three phase line originates and ends in two critical end points. Raising pressure increases the shear effects. For copolymer containing systems SID is sometimes observed at very low shear rates, preceding the just mentioned sequence of shear influences.
