1.Pollinating insects provide crucial and economically important ecosystem services to crops and wild plants, but pollinators, particularly bees, are globally declining as a result of various driving factors, including the prevalent use of pesticides for crop protection. Sublethal pesticide exposure negatively impacts numerous pollinator life-history traits, but its influence on reproductive success remains largely unknown. Such information is pivotal, however, to our understanding of the long-term effects on population dynamics. 2.We investigated the influence of field-realistic trace residues of the routinely used neonicotinoid insecticides thiamethoxam and clothianidin in nectar substitutes on the entire life-time fitness performance of the red mason bee Osmia bicornis. 3.We show that chronic, dietary neonicotinoid exposure has severe detrimental effects on solitary bee reproductive output. Neonicotinoids did not affect adult bee mortality; however, monitoring of fully controlled experimental populations revealed that sublethal exposure resulted in almost 50% reduced total offspring production and a significantly male-biased offspring sex ratio. 4.Our data add to the accumulating evidence indicating that sublethal neonicotinoid effects on non-Apis pollinators are expressed most strongly in a rather complex, fitness-related context. Consequently, to fully mitigate long-term impacts on pollinator population dynamics, present pesticide risk assessments need to be expanded to include whole life-cycle fitness estimates, as demonstrated in the present study using O. bicornis as a model.

Fuller explicitly connects his career with a childhood full of experiences marked by a merger between the biological and the cultural, constituting a major source of imagery, handled over his whole life. Childhood mobile games like the rope, kyte, swing, wheel, or balloon, all characterized by their dynamic condition, serve as narrative vehicles and provide a context to relate childhood, science and architectural design through an universal approach. We pose three elementary cathegories, in order to trace a genealogy of primary technical objects which operate under tension and mobility principles. Rescued experiences, notions and attitudes from Fuller?s childhood memories, refer to the experience of tension which, in clear contrast with traditional structural methods, which perpetuate the Euclidean, the stable, the massive and the compressive, promote multipolar, dynamic en the ephimeral.

ABSTRACT This work presents a certification tool for the Bioconstrucción's housings in Spain. Based in that the Bioconstrucción is a consolidated practice in the Spanish territory, but there ins´t scientific study to define, to characterize and to verify this practice as a constructive alternative compromised with the environment and with the human health. At first we study about the specific references and them complements itself with related bibliography. By this way to have a characterization in the one that could settle the fieldwork. In the fieldwork there are verified the aspects that compose the Bioconstrucción. Cases of study have been looked diversified and a detailed evaluation of projects and constructions, as well as of the information obtained in you poll the owners and users, and to the professionals responsible for the constructive processes. With this database there were established both constructive and geographical characteristics or partner environmental, and the structure has been defined for the tool. The certification methodology proposes integrates three dimensions identified along the study of the Bioconstrucción: health, environment and social responsibility. From a systemic vision and basing in values as the promotion spaces of the human health in agreement with the bosses of the nature, the environmental balance towards to the positive impact, and the conscious action of respect, dignity and social equity during all his life cycle. With the aim to be able to evaluate it in all his aspects and contribute to the advance of the policies of habitability, environmental and of social responsibility. Ten fundamental paragraphs are established: territory, bioclimátic, saludability, materials, constructive systems, energies, water, air, residues and management. Each one develops requirements, in a total of 175, who evaluate the diverse aspects of Bioconstrucción's housing. In the valuation every requirement is evaluated in his relation by every stage of the life cycle of the building: conception, construction, occupation and post-occupation. This way we get a transverse and multidisciplinary valuation, allowing both partial and global analysis in order that it could improve the topic that does not expire with the asked minimum. The result of the evaluation is the "bio" condition of the construction or project. The validation of the tool is done in studied cases. The results of the investigation are the definition and the characterization of the Bioconstrucción in Spain, a database of more than 100 cases of study, a specific and validated tool, and diverse lines for new investigation and to promote his development. It is tried to contribute to change a paradigm that does of the current construction a challenge towards a context in a balanced way respectfully with the whole life that lives in our ecosystem.

Among Small and Medium Sized Enterprises (SMEs) in particular, the UK Government’s ambitions regarding BIM uptake and diffusion across the construction sector may be tempered by a realpolitik shaped in part by interactions between the industry, Higher Education (HE) and professional practice. That premise also has a global perspective. Building on the previous 2 papers, Architectural technology and the BIM Acronym 1 and 2, this third iteration is a synthesis of research and investigations carried out over a number of years directly related to the practical implementation of BIM and its impact upon BE SMEs. First challenges, risks and potential benefits for SMEs and micros in facing up to the necessity to engage with digital tools in a competitive and volatile marketplace are discussed including tailoring BIM to suit business models, and filtering out achievable BIM outcomes from generic and bespoke aspects of practice. Second the focus is on setting up and managing teams engaging with BIM scenarios, including the role of clients; addresses a range of paradigms including lonely BIM and collaborative working. The significance of taking a whole life view with BIM is investigated including embedding soft landings principles into project planning and realisation. Thirdly procedures for setting up and managing common data environments are identified and the value of achieving smooth information flow is addressed. The overall objective of this paper is to provide SMEs with a practical strategy to develop a toolkit to BIM implementation.

This thesis deals with the integration of the manpower criterion with the strategic decision making processes of technological projects in developing countries. This integration is to be achieved by ensuring the involvement of the actors, who have relevant roles and responsibilities along the whole life cycle of the project, in the strategic decision making phases of the project. The relevance of the actors is ascertained by the use of a responsibility index which relates their responsibility to the project's constituent stages. In the context of a technological project in a typical centrally-planned developing environment, the actors are identified as Arbiters, Planners, Implementors and Operators and their roles, concerns and objectives are derived. In this context, the actors are usually government and non-government organisations. Hence, decision making will involve multiple agencies as well as multiple criteria. A methodology covering the whole decision-making process, from options generation to options selection, and adopting Saaty's Analytical Hierarchy Process as an operational tool is proposed to deal with such multiple-criteria, multipleagency decision situations. The methodology is intended to integrate the consideration of the relevant criteria, the prevailing environmental and policy factors, and the concerns and objectives of the relevant actors into a unifying decision-making process which strives to facilitate enlightened decision making and to enhance learning and interaction. An extensive assessment of the methodology's feasibility, based on a specific technological project within the Iraqi oil industry is included, and indicates that the methodology should be both useful and implementable.

Two assembly line balancing problems are addressed. The first problem (called SALBP-1) is to minimize number of linearly ordered stations for processing n partially ordered operations V = {1, 2, ..., n} within the fixed cycle time c. The second problem (called SALBP-2) is to minimize cycle time for processing partially ordered operations V on the fixed set of m linearly ordered stations. The processing time ti of each operation i ∈V is known before solving problems SALBP-1 and SALBP-2. However, during the life cycle of the assembly line the values ti are definitely fixed only for the subset of automated operations V\V . Another subset V ⊆ V includes manual operations, for which it is impossible to fix exact processing times during the whole life cycle of the assembly line. If j ∈V , then operation times tj can differ for different cycles of the production process. For the optimal line balance b of the assembly line with operation times t1, t2, ..., tn, we investigate stability of its optimality with respect to possible variations of the processing times tj of the manual operations j ∈ V .

We review and compare four broad categories of spatially-explicit modelling approaches currently used to understand and project changes in the distribution and productivity of living marine resources including: 1) statistical species distribution models, 2) physiology-based, biophysical models of single life stages or the whole life cycle of species, 3) food web models, and 4) end-to-end models. Single pressures are rare and, in the future, models must be able to examine multiple factors affecting living marine resources such as interactions between: i) climate-driven changes in temperature regimes and acidification, ii) reductions in water quality due to eutrophication, iii) the introduction of alien invasive species, and/or iv) (over-)exploitation by fisheries. Statistical (correlative) approaches can be used to detect historical patterns which may not be relevant in the future. Advancing predictive capacity of changes in distribution and productivity of living marine resources requires explicit modelling of biological and physical mechanisms. New formulations are needed which (depending on the question) will need to strive for more realism in ecophysiology and behaviour of individuals, life history strategies of species, as well as trophodynamic interactions occurring at different spatial scales. Coupling existing models (e.g. physical, biological, economic) is one avenue that has proven successful. However, fundamental advancements are needed to address key issues such as the adaptive capacity of species/groups and ecosystems. The continued development of end-to-end models (e.g., physics to fish to human sectors) will be critical if we hope to assess how multiple pressures may interact to cause changes in living marine resources including the ecological and economic costs and trade-offs of different spatial management strategies. Given the strengths and weaknesses of the various types of models reviewed here, confidence in projections of changes in the distribution and productivity of living marine resources will be increased by assessing model structural uncertainty through biological ensemble modelling.

Tämän tutkimuksen tavoitteena on tunnistaa sisältömarkkinoinnin mahdollisuuksia ja haasteita digitaalisessa markkinointiviestinnässä. Lisäksi tavoitteena on antaa yksiselitteinen määritelmä sisältömarkkinoinnille sekä selvittää, miten se eroaa muista markkinointiviestinnän keinoista. Sisältömarkkinointi on strateginen markkinointiviestinnän keino, johon kuuluu asiakkaan kannalta mielenkiintoisen ja hyödyllisen sisällön tuottaminen ja jakaminen.

Whole macadamia kernels were immersed in water (specific gravity 1.00 g/cm(3)), brine (SG 1.02 g/cm(3)) and ethanol solution (SG 0.97 g/cm(3)) for 30 or 60 s, re-dried to 1.0-1.5% moisture (wet basis) and stored under vacuum for 0, 4 and 12 months. Immersion in water had no effect on the quality or shelf life of kernels, as measured by sensory evaluation and analysis of the kernel oil. Immersion in brine and ethanol solutions changed the flavour of kernels, but had no effect on shelf life or kernel oil stability over 12 months storage. Water flotation to separate kernels based on differences in oil content is therefore feasible, but microbiological concerns need to be investigated.
