Almost forty years computed tomography (CT) has been one of the most powerful tools in diagnostic imaging. However, this modality delivers relatively high doses to their patients. It is known that the inappropriate use and unnecessary radiation may be associated with a significant risk of cancer, especially in pediatric patients. Moreover, the quality assurance in CT, provided and required by Portaria 453/98 and the guide of the RE 1016/05, ensures that the images generated by computer tomography provide reliable diagnostic information with doses as low as reasonably achievable. This research aimed to make the quality control (QC) of CT equipment; establish a better relationship between dose and noise on the image to protocols of skull CT according to the study of optimization proposed in 2005 by Daros; and assess the dose distribution in different cranial organs for protocols of adult and pediatric use in the routine of the Department of Diagnostic Imaging of HCFMB-UNESP. Utilização de parâmetros qualitativos dos resíduos aterrados como referência no processo de seleção de valores empregados em modelos matemáticos para a estimativa de geração de metano

The study of mathematical modeling assists in evaluation of the capacity of production and measurement of generation time of biogas in landfills, enabling the implantation of projects of energy generation from methane. Thus, the work aims, by simulating scenarios of potential methane generation in the landfill in Rio Claro, the use of field data from methane flow and waste grounded parameters as references for selecting values of k e L0 used to estimate methane generation model in LandGEM. As a result it was found that compared the characteristics adopted in the four scenarios recommended by the USEPA literature with those found in the landfill of Rio Claro (high amount of organic matter in the waste landed and daily practice of leachate recirculation), the scenario that apparently better represent the rate of methane generation is the scenario 01, with k = 0.7 and L0 = 96. Now, the adjustment of parameters in relation to the data field of methane flow, the value of L0 which best fits the methane generation from the landfill in Rio Claro is 150, while for k the line behavior that best represents the reality are values between 0.7 and 0.3. Regarding the parameters of the waste grounded, between the suggested values of k, 0,3 is most consistent with the intermediate level of biological degradation of the residue grounded, while L0 due to the biodegradability of the waste, a new value between 120 and 150 may be more appropriate for the study

Resolução de problema de valor no contorno associado ao projeto de reatores de fluxo disperso empregados no tratamento de efluentes

The objective of this work was to develop a numerical method to solve boundary value problems concerning to the use of dispersion model for describing the hydraulic behavior of chemical or biological reactors employed in the wastewater treatment. The numerical method was implemented in FORTRAN language generating a computational program which was applied to solve cases involving reaction kinetics of both integer and fractional orders. The developed method was able to solve the proposed problems evidencing to be a useful tool that provides more accurate design of wastewater treatment reactors

Tendências recentes do emprego rural na agroindústria canavieira paulista

Ao longo dos últimos 20 anos a agroindústria canavieira paulista passou por grandes modificações. Essas também modificaram em grande parte o perfil conjuntural e estrutural do setor, impactando diretamente sobre o mercado de trabalho. A partir de 2002, com a proibição da queima da palha de cana-de-açúcar para a colheita, houve uma intensificação da mecanização deste processo. Isto vem desencadeando uma série de discussões a respeito do desemprego a que o trabalhador volante esta sujeito. Porém, muitos são os indicadores que apresentam um aumento na qualificação dos trabalhadores e também nas melhorias das relações entre patrões e empregados neste setor. Portanto, é necessário que se apresente as modificações que ocorreram neste setor e em seu mercado de trabalho, com o intuito de se traçar um perfil do setor e também de sua mão-de-obra. Para isto, este trabalho buscou apresentar um breve histórico do setor e também do mercado de trabalho pertencente a ele. Também são debatidas as contradições apresentadas por alguns autores quando abordam este tema tão delicado que é a mecanização e o trabalho volante. Por último, foram apresentadas políticas para a redução do impacto da mecanização, procurando apresentar prós e contras sobre cada uma

As avaliações externas e suas implicações para a organização do trabalho numa escola da rede estadual paulista: um estudo de caso

This research analyses the positives and/or negatives of external reviews to work's organization developed at the/and by the school. It should be noted that it's a qualitative case of empirical research, and it takes the pattern of case's study, because we held the investigation just in one school, which in turn, belongs to the education's public network by the state, and is located at the São Paulo northwest. The tools employed at this research for the data's collect were the observation, restricted to times of Pedagogical Work Activities Collective from the school, and the semi structured interviews with educational coordinators and the teachers too. We choose educational coordinators and teachers because they are closer with the education and learning methods, as well as their activities have more responsibility in relation to the main function developed by school, that is to teach, in other words, educational processes. This research also concerns an investigation about the educational coordinators and teachers conceptions, in relation to system's implantation external reviews at the schools. The results indicate to incidence of significant interference of the external reviews to/in the organization school's work, as, a teaching practice reorientation from results arising these reviews, or, modifications in the internal rating, since they have followed a tendency towards becoming more similar with their own external reviews. In what concerns the subjects investigated, we can emphasize that mostly submitted alienation with respect to negative effects of the external reviews for school. They showed that are conformed with the reality that they are inserted and in your mostly they proved perceive the positive effects by the implantation of external reviews. We can also add that the data obtained in the research allow us declare that the work of the educational coordinators of this school in presence of external reviews don't...

Do vento ao vapor em mares já antes navegados: a companhia de navegação La Veloce e o transporte de emigrantes pelo Atlântico

In the final decades of the nineteenth century, the growth of Italian emigration was constituted in a secure source of income for the shipping companies that operated in the Atlantic and played a major role in financing the replacement of old sailboats by modern steamers. Based on reports and balance exercises financial, besides newspapers related to mercantile marine, this article aims to present some results of the research about the importance of Italians emigrants’ transporting to the shipping company La Veloce, showing its economic trajectory and particularities.
