Experience has no shadow : Bell tower III

I created Experience Has No Shadow (2010) following a successful Ausdance Qld choreographic grant in 2010, which comprised of two solos and a video-dance at the Performance Space at the Judith Wright Centre. The aim of the Bell Tower III residency was to research and construct a Stage One Development that explored choreographic approaches to oral histories. Like many first generation Australians, oral histories are the way memories and experiences of distant homelands often offer the only connection to cultural origins. Consequently, I drew on auto-ethnographic references in the form of family stories – specifically those of my mother’s family - told and retold by my mother and her family as East German refugees during World War II. While working on the video, I explored a way to make a direct connection to the past stories by using a recording of my mother’s voice. She is re-telling a favourite story about Salamo the circus horse that was sold to my great grandfather as a work horse. Rather than representing the text literally, I attempted to capture the intensity of the storytelling which accompanied abstract footage of Avril Huddy filmed through perspex glass producing animal-like shapes that continually blur and morph in and out of focus. Strangely, by tying the story in with the filmed images a whole new story seems to emerge. Two distinct solos were created in collaboration with the performers, Expressions Dance Company’s Elise May and QUT’s Avril Huddy. These were performed at the Judith Wright Centre for Contemporary Arts, Performance Space, 1st April, 2010. The simplicity of its design became a key concept behind the work in terms of sets, spacing requirements, and costumes – almost minimalist. The choreographic process was conceived as highly collaborative, with commissioned music (and eventually lighting features) to act as equal partners in the performance.

La formación sacerdotal en los colegios clericales navarros y el Seminario Conciliar de Pamplona (1551-1831).

Contribuir a la reconstrucción de la Historia de la Educación española y en particular del viejo reino de Navarra. Completar y continuar la línea de trabajo abierta por el profesor Goñi Gaztambide sobre la importancia pedagógica y formativa de los colegios clericales y del Seminario Conciliar de Pamplona, y analizar cómo acontecieron en Navarra las tesis mantenidas por el profesor Martín Hernández sobre la institución seminarística como punto de arranque de la secularización docente en España y punto de partida de la conformación de la enseñanza media. Las instituciones docentes sacerdotales en Navarra de 1551 a 1831. La investigación se centra en el estudio de instituciones de ámbito local, apoyado fundamentalmente en el análisis, descripción, interpretación y relación de fuentes. El método seguido es historiar la génesis de la institución, su encuadre en el contexto nacional y su desarrollo pedagógico. La primera parte abarca los años 1551-1777, en los que a falta de un seminario conciliar, los sacerdotes navarros se formaron en 2 colegios sacerdotales fundados por iniciativa privada. La segunda parte abarca los 54 años de la historia pedagógica del Seminario Conciliar de Pamplona (1777-1831), desde su fundación hasta la fecha en la que surge una carencia casi absoluta de fuentes. Archivos, Diocesano de Pamplona, del Seminario Conciliar de Pamplona, General de Navarra, Municipal de Pamplona, de la Catedral de Pamplona y Archivo Histórico Nacional. La proliferación, configuración y desarrollo de los seminarios conciliares en la segunda mitad del s. XVIII fue debida a la confluencia en el contexto ilustrado español de 4 factores: el regalismo de la corte de Carlos III, el jansenismo juridíco de sus ministros, el episcopalismo docente y la influencia de San Carlos Borromeo. El Seminario Conciliar de Pamplona es un ejemplo característico de institución surgida de la política regia carolina y del esfuerzo y mentalidad católica ilustrada del obispo Irigoyen. Trust in the German police

The relative levels of trust in the police are explored, using data from the fifth round of the European Social Survey (ESS) which covered mainly 28 European countries. In this article, the position of Germany is examined within the international context. German trust in the police, for both German natives and ethnic minorities, for those 15 and over is high in comparison to other European countries. The article also tests if it is the fair treatment of citizens by the police, or the high value placed on rule adherence and conformity, that is driving the German citizen’s trust. It shows that the German police is trusted due to their perceived fairness, effectiveness and shared moral values, rather than on value placed on conformity to authority.

Dynamics in dumbbell domains III. Continuity of attractors

In this paper we conclude the analysis started in [J.M. Arrieta, AN Carvalho, G. Lozada-Cruz, Dynamics in dumbbell domains I. Continuity of the set of equilibria, J. Differential Equations 231 (2006) 551-597] and continued in [J.M. Arrieta, AN Carvalho, G. Lozada-Cruz, Dynamics in dumbbell domains II. The limiting problem, J. Differential Equations 247 (1) (2009) 174-202 (this issue)] concerning the behavior of the asymptotic dynamics of a dissipative reaction-diffusion equation in a dumbbell domain as the channel shrinks to a line segment. In [J.M. Arrieta, AN Carvalho. G. Lozada-Cruz, Dynamics in dumbbell domains I. Continuity of the set of equilibria, J. Differential Equations 231 (2006) 551-597], we have established an appropriate functional analytic framework to address this problem and we have shown the continuity of the set of equilibria. In this paper we show that the attractors are Upper semicontinuous and, moreover, if all equilibria of the limiting problem are hyperbolic, then they are lower semicontinuous and therefore, continuous. Caracterização morfológica e frequência dos estádios do ciclo do epitélio seminífero em preás (Galea spixii Wagler, 1831) criados em cativeiro

Estudos baseados nas características testiculares estão altamente relacionados com a eficiência reprodutiva de varias espécies. Assim, o projeto desenvolvido teve como objetivo identificar as células do epitélio seminífero, caracterizar histologicamente suas associações, que formam os estádios, e determinar a frequência destes. Os fragmentos de testículos, com 30, 45, 60, 75, 90, 105, 120, 150 dias foram coletados no Centro de Multiplicação da Universidade Federal Rural do Semi-Árido (UFERSA), Mossoró/ RN. Passando pelos processos de fixação, lavagens em soluções de concentrações crescentes de álcoois (70-100%), desidratação em xilol, inclusão em Histosec®, preparação das lâminas histológicas, colorações em Hematoxilina e Eosina (HE) e suas fotomicrografias para a caracterização dos núcleos celulares do epitélio germinativo e a definição dos oitos estágios do ciclo do epitélio seminífero (CES) baseados no Método da Morfologia Tubular. Das faixas etárias analisadas todos os animais de 90-150 dias de idade apresentaram todos os estádios do CES. Os estádios I e III foram os que apresentaram maior e menor freqüência, respectivamente. Os animais caracterizados como pré-púberes (30 dias), púberes (45-90 dias de idade) e pós-púberes (105150 dias de idade) apresentaram os estádios I, VIII e IV com uma maior freqüência, respectivamente.
