Al-doped ZnO thin films were synthesized from oxygen reactive co-sputtering of Al and Zn targets. Explicit doping of Al in the highly c-axis oriented crystalline films of ZnO was manifested in terms of structural optical and electrical properties. Electrical conduction with different extent of Al doping into the crystal lattice of ZnO (AZnO) were characterized by frequency dependent (40 Hz-50 MHz) resistance. From the frequency dependent resistance, the ac conduction of them, and correlations of localized charge particles in the crystalline films were studied. The dc conduction at the low frequency region was found to increase from 8.623 mu A to 1.14 mA for the samples AZnO1 (1 wt% Al) and AZnO2 (2 wt% Al), respectively. For the sample AZnO10 (10 wt% Al) low frequency dc conduction was not found due to the electrode polarization effect. The measure of the correlation length by inverse of threshold frequency (omega(0)) showed that on application of a dc electric field such length decreases and the decrease in correlation parameter(s) indicates that the correlation between potentials wells of charge particles decreases for the unidirectional nature of dc bias. The comparison between the correlation length and the extent of correlation in the doped ZnO could not be made due to the observation of several threshold frequencies at the extent of higher doping. Such threshold frequencies were explained by the population possibility of correlated charge carriers that responded at different frequencies. For AZnO2 (2% Al), the temperature dependent (from 4.5 to 288 K) resistance study showed that the variable range hopping mechanism was the most dominating conduction mechanism at higher temperature whereas at low temperature region it was influenced by the small polaronic hopping conduction mechanism. There was no significant influence found in these mechanisms on applications of 1, 2 and 3 V as biases.

O Grupo dos 32 (trinta e dois) e o Grupo dos Progressistas voltaram a se reunir para buscar acordo sobre os temas polmicos e um dos pontos j acertados sobre o meio ambiente. A Deputada Sandra Cavalcanti (PFL-RJ) afirma que, em relao ao meio ambiente, a grande conquista do cidado ser a existncia de instrumentos legais para defender a criatura humana de tudo aquilo que significar uma leso a sua qualidade de vida. O Senador Fernando Henrique Cardoso (PMDB-SP) comenta que ainda h discusso sobre a emisso de posse na Reforma Agrria. O Relator Bernardo Cabral (PMDB-AM) e os relatores adjuntos discutiram com o Presidente da Assempleia Nacional Constituinte (ANC) as prximas etapas do trabalho. Transformou-se em festa o dia da entrega das emendas populares. Foram entregues mais de vinte propostas com cerca de dois milhes de assinaturas. Mrio Amato, Presidente da FIESP, entregou trs propostas com mais de um milho de assinaturas. Os publicitrios compareceram para reivindicar a retirada do artigo que probe a propaganda de cigarros, remdios e bebidas no rdio e na TV. O Presidente da CUT, Jair Meneguelli, declara que, em nvel nacional, houve participao da entidade nas trinta e sete emendas populares que foram apresentadas, mas duas tiveram prioridade : a da Reforma Agrria e a dos Direitos Trabalhistas. O Deputado Paulo Delgado (PT-MG) acredita no rompimento da tradio brasileira de que s os polticos podem fazer leis.

A situao do Nordeste e o drama da populao que convive com a seca, o analfabetismo e a fome. Deputados e Senadores da Assembleia Nacional Constituinte (ANC) opinam sobre o tema. O Deputado Antnio Mariz (PMDB-PB) informa que o principal problema o subdesenvolvimento nordestino, o fato da regio ter sido marginalizada e mantida fora dos fluxos normais do crescimento econmico do pas. No Agreste Nordestino todos os planos da SUDENE (Superintendncia do Desenvolvimento do Nordeste) previam a abertura de poos para aguar as pastagens, mas foram construdos apenas nas terras dos coronis. Outro projeto da SUDENE que no deu certo foi o de produzir alimentos na zona mida, em todo o vale do Rio So Francisco. O Senador Mansueto de Lavor (PMDB-PE) considera que as causas das crises do Nordeste tem origem no modelo de sociedade implantado na regio, com a predominncia das oligarquias que associam poder poltico e poder econmico. Dados sobre analfabetismo, subnutrio e distribuio de renda. O Deputado Raimundo Bezerra (PMDB-CE) afirma que h necessidade de diferenciar o Nordeste das demais regies ricas para que as desigualdades desapaream. A falta de terras e a seca tornou nmade o povo nordestino. O Deputado Agassiz de Almeida (PMDB-PB) esclarece que o processo de imigrao do homem nordestino gera inchao dos grandes centros urbanos e que preciso ter uma poltica de fixao desse homem ao seu universo e as suas tradies. A Deputada Wilma Maia (PDS-RN) afirma que o Nordeste precisa de uma reforma agrria.

Rui de Oliveira Barbosa, jurisconsulto e estadista, nasceu em Salvador, em 1849, e morreu em Petrpolis, Rio de Janeiro, em 1923. Iniciou o curso de Direito na Faculdade do Recife, em 1866, concluindo-se na Faculdade de Direito de So Paulo, em 1870. Entusiasta da campanha abolicionista, escreveu artigos, ainda como estudante, no jornal o Radical Paulistano e no Dirio da Bahia. Elegeu-se deputado-geral pela Bahia, em 1878. Destacando-se nas discusses sobre as eleies diretas, abolio da escravatura e reforma do ensino. Com a Proclamao da Repblica, foi nomeado Ministro da Fazenda do Governo Provisrio e Vice-Presidente da Repblica, quando defendeu a primeira Constituio da Repblica na imprensa e no Parlamento. Em 1891, foi eleito Senador pela Bahia, mandato que desempenhou at sua morte, em 1923. Rui Barbosa foi autor dos decretos da proclamao da Bandeira Nacional, da liberdade de cultos e de tantos outros que estruturaram as instituies democrticas brasileiras. Em 1907, chefiou a delegao do Brasil II Conferncia da Paz, em Haia, onde defendeu o princpio da igualdade entre as naes. Scio fundador da Academia Brasileira de Letras, foi eleito seu presidente, cargo que ocupou at 1919. Rui Barbosa no foi apenas notvel como jurisconsulto, mas tambm como orador, conferencista, jornalista e escritor. Sendo considerado, hoje, um dos grandes clssicos da lngua portuguesa. Projecto n. 48... de julho de 1884, traz, na ntegra, o projeto de lei, do qual Rui Barbosa foi relator, que objetivava abolir a escravatura no Brasil, mas que foi rejeitado pela Cmara dos Deputados. De acordo com Sacramento Blake, esse projeto foi publicado no Dirio Oficial e depois em outra fontes da Corte.

Experiment on induced spawning of Clarias lazera and C. anguillaris using human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) freshly prepared toad and Clarias pituitary hormogenates were carried out. Clarias pituitary hormogenates induced spawning in C. lazera and C. anguillaris at dosage levels of 0.27-0.46 mg/150 g body weight or 2 glands/fish of equivalent weights. HCG induced spawning in C. anguillaris at 500 i.u/500 g body weight but failed in C. lazera. Toad pituitary was not successful at even a higher dosage level of 0.60 mg/150 g body weight. The implications of these results are discussed. Spawning occurred in the HCG (and Clarias pituitary treated females in less than 12 hours after injection and subsequent examination of ovaries of the spawned fish showed incomplete spawning. Furthermore, fertilization occurred, following spawning in the piscine pituitary hormone treated male and female fish but failed in the HCG (treated pair. A mean fertilization rate of 50-90% was recorded. Possible explanations of these observations are advanced. The hatching time of 24-48 hours and a mean hatching rate of 75-90% were recorded. A high larval mortality of up to 95% was observed in the post yolk-sac stag after 8 days. The need for the development of appropriate larval food for Clarias species in culture practice is stressed

<p>Described in this thesis are measurements made of the thick-target neutron yield from the reaction <sup>13</sup>C(, n)<sup>16</sup>O. The yield was determined for laboratory bombarding energies between 0.475 and 0.700 MeV, using a stilbene crystal neutron detector and pulse-shape discrimination to eliminate gamma rays. Stellar temperatures between 2.5 and 4.5 x 10<sup>8</sup> <sup>o</sup>K are involved in this energy region. From the neutron yield was extracted the astrophysical cross-section factor S(E), which was found to fit a linear function: S(E) = [(5.48 1.77) + (12.05 3.91)E] x 10<sup>5</sup> MeV-barns, center-of-mass system. The stellar rate of the <sup>13</sup>C(, n)<sup>16</sup>O reaction if calculated, and discussed with reference to helium burning and neutron production in the core of a giant star. </p> <p>Results are also presented of measurements carried out on the reaction <sup>9</sup>Be(, n)<sup>12</sup>C, taken with a thin Be target. The bombarding energy-range covered was from 0.340 to 0.680 MeV, with excitation curves for the ground- and first excited-state neutrons being reported. Some angular distributions were also measured. Resonances were found at bombarding energies of E<sub>LAB</sub> = 0.520 MeV (E<sub>CM</sub> = 0.360 MeV, ~ 55 keV CM, = 3.79 eV CM) and E<sub>LAB</sub> = 0.600 MeV (E<sub>CM</sub> = 0.415 MeV, 4 keV CM, = 0.88 eV CM). The astrophysical rate of the <sup>9</sup>Be(, n)<sup>12</sup>C reaction due to these resonances is calculated. </p>

A study on the layer structure of W/C multilayers deposited by magnetron sputtering is reported. In the study, soft x-ray resonant reflectivity and hard x-ray grazing incidence reflectivity of the W/C multilayers were measured. The imperfections at the interface such as interdiffusion and formation of compounds were dealt with by two methods. On analyzing the experimental results, we found that the incorporation of an interlayer was a more suitable method than the traditional statistical method to describe the layer structure of a W/C system we fabricated. The optical constants of each layer at a wavelength of 4.48 nm were also obtained from the analysis. Copyright (C) 2008 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

[ES] Se analiza un sestercio de Nern usado como elemento ornamental. Un artesano hizo en el reverso de la moneda algunos radios curvos y cinco agujeros. En el artculo se hacen una serie de consideraciones sobre la realizacin de este inusual trabajo y su posible funcin. Por otro lado, tambin se examinan ciertos aspectos de los usos ornamentales de la moneda y la evaluacin moral de la figura de Nern.

A Hepatite C (HC) um srio problema mundial de sade pblica. Pelas estimativas da Organizao Mundial da Sade, calcula-se que cerca de 3% da populao mundial esteja infectada pelo vrus da hepatite C. O tratamento da HC objetiva deter a progresso da doena heptica pela inibio da replicao viral. O objetivo deste estudo foi comparar o efeito de resposta ao tratamento da Hepatite C entre o interferon peguilado (PEGINF) + ribavirina (RBV) e interferon-alfa (INF) + ribavirina (RBV) alm de avaliar a relao de fatores de risco, idade, sexo, gentipo, grau de fibrose heptica, tempo de tratamento e comorbidades associadas. Foi realizado levantamento retrospectivo dos pronturios dos pacientes atendidos no ambulatrio de Hepatologia do Hospital dos Servidores do Estado do RJ (HSE), de 2001 a 2009. Modelos de regresso logstica bivariadas e multivariadas foram utilizados nas anlises. Cerca de 85% dos pacientes que trataram por 48 semanas e 15% dos que trataram por 24 semanas tiveram resposta virolgica sustentada (RVS) positiva. Cerca de 65% dos pacientes que receberam PEGINF + RBV e 35% dos que receberam INF + RBV tiveram RVS positiva. Os achados deste estudo apontam que o efeito de resposta do tratamento de hepatite C com PEG-INF + RBV superior ao tratamento com INF + RBV, e que a maior durao do tempo de tratamento tambm tem influncia positiva na RVS. Em relao interrupo do tratamento houve associao estatisticamente significativa entre o grau de fibrose heptica e a probabilidade de permanecer no tratamento, o risco de interrupo seis vezes maior com o grau mais avanado de fibrose (F4) em relao ao menos avanado (F2). Tambm foi encontrado que o risco de interromper o tratamento aps as primeiras 24 semanas para pacientes com gentipo 3 foi 2,5 vezes maior do que queles pacientes com gentipo 1.

The polyetherketone (PEK-c) guest-host system thin films in which the range of the weight percent of 3-(1,1-dicyanothenyl)-1-phenyl-4, 5- dihydro-1H-pryazole (DCNP) is from 20% to 50% were prepared. The predicted high value of electro-optical (EO) coefficient gamma(33) = 48.8 pm/V by using two-level model was obtained when the weight percent of DCNP in the polymer system is 40%, whereas EO coefficients are attenuated at higher chromophore loading then 40%. The temporal stability of the EO activity of the guest-host polymer was evaluated by probing the decay of the orientational order of the chromophores in the polymer system.

Quantum wires were formed in the 6-period InAs/In0.52Al0.48As structure on InP(0 0 1) grown by molecular beam epitaxy. The structure was characterized with transmission electron microscopy. It was found that the lateral periodic compositional modulation in the QWR array was in the [1 (1) over bar 0] direction and layer-ordered along the specific orientation deviating from the [0 0 1] growth direction by about 30 degrees. This deviating angle is consistent with the calculation of the distribution of elastic distortion around quantum wires in the structure using the finite element technique.
