This study focused on teachers of senior secondary classes and the impact on pedagogy of the use of laptop computers. It was found that in schools operating a mature laptop program, pedagogy was influenced by teacher beliefs, prevailing school culture, and the assessment requirements of students in their final year.

The study has investigated the pedagogy of teachers with litle or no training in computer use. The value of a self-taught approach to teacher learning about teaching with computers was scrutinised, and a range of practical implications for the professional development of such teachers was identified.

This research develops a framework which allows the many IT security certifications to be compared by stakeholders, such as IT security professionals, employers, universities and governments. The aim of this research was to investigate the design of a digital museum for the Espai Gaudi, Barcelona, Spain. Acting as a repository of information, it provides an experience and understanding to the general public of the use of geometry within the Sagrada Familia Church by architect Antoni Gaudi.

Automated parallel application creation and execution tool for clusters

This research investigated an automated approach to re-writing traditional sequential computer programs into parallel programs for networked computers. A tool was designed and developed for generating parallel programs automatically and also executing these parallel programs on a network of computers. Performance is maximized by utilising all idle resources.

Application of fast and robust equalization in communication technology

This thesis explores the potential of several popular equalization techniques and proposes new approaches to overcome their disadvantages. A H2 optimal initialization has been proposed to overcome the slow convergence problem while keeping the simplicity algorithms. MRP-production planning in agile manufacturing

The research studied a production planning problem in a manufacturing firm. Some production planning software was developed that enabled the efficient and rapid reproduction of an optimum production forecast. Not only was the production cost reduced but a significant length of planning time cn be saved using the software.

Decision support tool for production planning of a machining line

A decision support tool for production planning was developed to perform the difficult and time consuming task of allocating resources within the industrial partner's machining line, consisting of identical Computerized Numerically Controlled machines. The production-planning tool identified significant labour savings in a number of the industrial partner's production plans.

This thesis investigated gender, learning and equity within the context of women learning IT skills in Australian workplaces. The research identified women's training needs and responses when attending IT classes and found that many women in the workplace grapple with issues of social conditioning predicated on common perceptions of IT being aligned with a masculine culture.

Agent-based heuristics to solve NP-hard scheduling problems

A novel agent-driven heuristic approach was developed to control the operational scheduling for a local manufacturer. This approach outperformed the traditional kanban control mechanism under numerous simulated benchmarking tests. Using this approach, the individual machine loading was reduced by, on average, 28%, with the loading spread reduced by 85%

Workplace learning of information technology workers in Hong Kong

This study found that to information technology professionals in Hong Kong, the workplace was a rich environment in which to learn. However, as information technology changed and became more complex, none of them knew all about the technologies they used and for each technology, there could be different ways of knowing it.
