The soil heat flux and soil thermal diffusivity are important components of the surface energy balance, especially in ar id and semi-arid regions. The obj ective of this work was to carry out to estimate the soil heat flux from th e soil temperature measured at a single depth, based on the half-order time derivative met hod proposed by Wang and Bras (1999), and to establish a method capable of es timating the thermal diffusivity of the soil, based on the half order derivative, from the temporal series of soil temperature at two depths. The results obtained in the estimates of soil heat flux were compared with the values of soil heat flux measured through flux plates, and the thermal di ffusivity estimated was compared with the measurements carried out in situ. The results obtained showed excellent concordance between the estimated and measured soil heat flux, with correlation (r), coeffici ent of determination (R 2 ) and standard error (W/m 2 ) of: r = 0.99093, R 2 = 0.98194 and error = 2.56 (W/m 2 ) for estimated period of 10 days; r = 0,99069, R 2 = 0,98147 and error = 2.59 (W/m 2 ) for estimated period of 30 days; and r = 0,98974, R 2 = 0,97958 and error = 2.77 (W/m 2 ) for estimated period of 120 days. The values of thermal di ffusivity estimated by the proposed method showed to be coherent and consis tent with in situ measured va lues, and with the values found in the literature usi ng conventional methods.

In this work we have investigated some aspects of the two-dimensional flow of a viscous Newtonian fluid through a disordered porous medium modeled by a random fractal system similar to the Sierpinski carpet. This fractal is formed by obstacles of various sizes, whose distribution function follows a power law. They are randomly disposed in a rectangular channel. The velocity field and other details of fluid dynamics are obtained by solving numerically of the Navier-Stokes and continuity equations at the pore level, where occurs actually the flow of fluids in porous media. The results of numerical simulations allowed us to analyze the distribution of shear stresses developed in the solid-fluid interfaces, and find algebraic relations between the viscous forces or of friction with the geometric parameters of the model, including its fractal dimension. Based on the numerical results, we proposed scaling relations involving the relevant parameters of the phenomenon, allowing quantifying the fractions of these forces with respect to size classes of obstacles. Finally, it was also possible to make inferences about the fluctuations in the form of the distribution of viscous stresses developed on the surface of obstacles.

The study of chemical reactions is among the most important contents to the understanding of Chemistry discipline in basic education. However, there are still few studies about chemical reactions as a complex system because, generally, this content is presented in textbooks, taught and even researched in a fragmented form. The thesis here presented aims to investigate, identify and characterize the mistakes and learning difficulties of the students about chemical reactions as a complex system, using for that purpose the analysis of the answers of 126 exams of candidates for the bachelor’s degree in Chemistry Teaching on the entrance exam for the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN). The mistakes and learning difficulties about the parameters ΔG°, Kp, Ea and of the calculation of the amount of substance in a chemical reaction have been identified, as well as the levels of development of the ability to interpret the chemical reaction as a system. The main theoretical source of this study is structured based on the mistakes and learning difficulties (NÚÑEZ, RAMALHO, 2012), of the chemical reactions as complex systems (NÚÑEZ, 1994; RESHETOVA, 1988; SANDERSON, 1968). As methodology, it was prioritized the analysis of the answers to the exams and the interview with the teachers. The results showed typical mistakes in the study of this subject, especially low levels and skill development. No student was able to integrate the different aspects in the systemic understanding of the chemical reaction. From the interviews with Chemistry teachers from High School, it was determined the reasons the teachers assign to those mistakes and learning difficulties. The interviews revealed that the teachers do not work in the perspective of integration of the contents which leads the students to present difficulties and make mistakes related to the content previously mentioned. The study presents a proposal for the organization of the contents of Chemistry discipline for High School as a possibility of a dialectic systemic integration of contents, understanding that this systematic vision, leads to important contributions to the development of the theoretical thinking of the students. We can mention as one of the conclusions of this study, the fact that the non-systemic organization of contents do not favor this kind of thinking in students.

The transport of people and goods contributes to the deterioration of the environment in urban areas because of the generation of pollution, such as, air, noise, soil, water or visual degradation. The heavy vehicles that use diesel as fuel are mainly responsible for the emission of nitrogen oxides (NOx) and particulate matter (PM), contributing to participation of the transport sector in air pollution. In addition, there is emission of Greenhouse Gas (GHG) whose main component is carbon dioxide (CO2). In most major cities, public transportation is often considered as a less polluting alternative compared to the private vehicle, in view of the potential to reduce, per passenger, the emissions of GHG and air pollutants. The study area was the city of Uberlândia and the objects of study were the trunk lines of the Sistema Integrado de Transporte (SIT). The emissions of NOx, PM and CO2 were estimated through the bottom-up approach which used the route of each bus line and also fuel consumption obtained through simulation from the TSIS software. The software has some result limitations, there are no report about the emission of pollutants by bus, and it is not able to change specifications for the fuel used by the fleet. The results obtained through calculations of pollutants and GHG emission by the bottom-up approach show that the emission is higher when using fuel comsuption obtained in simulation than using distance. For the results considering fuel and distance there was a reduction in emissions comparing ethanol and diesel.

CHAPTER 1 - The gummy stem blight, caused by the fungus D. bryoniae, is a disease commonly found in watermelon cultivated in several countries. In Brazil, there are numerous studies related to the disease, but there are not uniform methods for quantifying of disease severity in the field. Thus, we developed a diagrammatic scale based on scanned photos of watermelon leaves infected with D. bryoniae. The scale developed showed levels of 0; 10; 20; 45; 65 and 90% of severity. The scale validation was divided into two parts: initially, 10 evaluators (half with experienced and other half without experience) estimated the disease severity based on the initial observation of 100 photos of watermelon leaves with symptoms of the disease at different severity levels. Before, the same evaluators estimated the disease severity with the support of the scale prepared from the Quant program. Data were analyzed using linear regression and were obtained angular, linear, and correlation coefficients. Based on these data, we determined the accuracy and precision of the evaluations. The correlation coefficients (R2) ranged from 0.88 - 0.97 for the experienced evaluators and from 0.55 - 0.95 for the inexperienced evaluators. The average angular coefficient (A) for inexperienced evaluators was 20.42 and 8.61 with and without the support of diagrammatic scale, respectively. Experienced evaluators showed values of average linear coefficient of 5.30 and 1.68 with and without the support of diagrammatic scale, respectively. The absolute errors analysis indicated that the use of diagrammatic scale contributed to minimize the flaws in the severity levels estimation. The diagrammatic scale proposed shown adequate for gummy stem blight severity evaluation in watermelon. CHAPTER 2 - The gummy stem blight (Didymella bryoniae) is a disease that affects the productivity of watermelon leading to losses over 40%. This study aimed to evaluate the efficiency of different production systems in control of gummy stem blight in watermelon for to establish efficient methods to combat the disease. There were applied the following treatments: conventional tillage (T1), integrated management (T2) and organic management (T3). In T1 and T2 were applied mineral fertilization and T3 was used bovine manure. There was application of fungicides and insecticides in commercial dose in T1 and T2, being after soil chemical analysis in T2. Disease severity was assessed by grading scale. The experimental design was randomized blocks. The severity of gummy stem blight has increased substantially during the fruit formation. Watermelon plants grown with integrated management (T2) showed lower levels of disease severity, while plants in organic management (T3) exhibited higher levels of severity. We conclude that management based on judicious accompaniments in field represents best way to achieve the phytosanitary aspect adequate for cultivation of watermelon in Tocantins.

O presente relatório de Prática de Ensino Supervisionada apresenta o meu percurso ao longo do Mestrado em Educação Pré-Escolar e Ensino do 1.º Ciclo do Ensino Básico. Este encontra-se dividido em duas partes distintas. A primeira parte corresponde à dimensão reflexiva e a segunda parte à dimensão investigativa. A primeira parte aborda as experiências vivenciadas em contexto de Creche, Pré-Escolar e 1.º Ciclo do Ensino Básico e as aprendizagens realizadas ao longo das mesmas. A segunda parte corresponde ao ensaio investigativo realizado. Pretende compreender a relação entre as atividades de consciência fonológica e de ortografia e a diminuição de erros ortográficos. Este estudo de caso, de caráter quantitativo e qualitativo foi baseado na seguinte pergunta de partida “As atividades de treino de consciência fonológica e de ortografia podem melhorar o desempenho ortográfico dos alunos?”. Os resultados confirmam que quando a competência ortográfica é trabalhada pela via do desenvolvimento da consciência fonológica a quantidade de erros ortográficos diminui. Os resultados alcançados apontam ainda para a importância e necessidade de os educadores e professores conceberem intervenções pedagógicas que sejam capazes de fomentar o desenvolvimento da consciência fonológica e, consequentemente, a aprendizagem do código ortográfico.

Atualmente, a disponibilização de informações alimentares e nutricionais em estabelecimentos da área de alimentação não é obrigatória. Porém, os consumidores podem, fácil e rapidamente, obter informações precisas em sites confiáveis ou por meio de aplicativos sobre a composição nutricional e calórica de alimentos. Estudos recentes mostram a importância não só do controle da ingestão diária de calorias, mas também do consumo de carboidratos, que são os nutrientes mais responsáveis por elevar o nível de glicose no sangue. O objetivo deste trabalho é propor um modelo para reconhecimento de alimentos em imagens de refeições por meio de técnicas de Processamento Digital de Imagens, possibilitando assim, a estimativa dos valores nutricionais, calóricos e glicêmicos dos alimentos identificados. Serão analisadas imagens de refeições e mediante reconhecimento, serão estimados os valores calóricos, nutricionais e glicêmicos de cada alimento identificado e da refeição. O procedimento de construção do artefato será conduzido pelo método Design Science Research. O resultado esperado com a finalização do trabalho é o modelo de reconhecimento de alimentos em imagens de refeições e de disponibilização de informações nutricionais, calóricas e glicêmicas validado.

Este trabalho consiste numa revisão de literatura sobre os erros de comunicação entre dois grupos de profissionais, cujos trabalhos na área da Medicina Dentária se complementam: o Médico Dentista (MD) e o Técnico de Prótese Dentária (TPD). A comunicação entre estes dois grupos é o um fator muito importante e deve existir uma boa sinergia para que o trabalho seja executado com o maior rigor e qualidade possível. Esta pressupõe aspetos funcionais, biomecânicos, estruturais e estéticos, da reabilitação a realizar, potenciando deste modo a máxima de qualquer tratamento médico: a satisfação do paciente. O objetivo que se propõe é expor os erros decorrentes de falhas de comunicação e alertar os MD e TPD para a mudança do nível de colaboração. É também objetivo desmistificar a postura dos MD em relação à Prótese Dentária. O culminar deste trabalho de equipa traduz-se na promoção da Saúde Oral e melhor qualidade de vida dos pacientes. As falhas na comunicação são o principal entrave ao sucesso da reabilitação protética, pois impedem a conjugação dos conhecimentos científicos e técnicos de ambos os profissionais perpetuando erros ao longo das etapas de fabrico. Com base numa pesquisa relacionada com a comunicação entre MD e TPD, utilizando-se as palavras-chave “dentist technician relationship”, “dentist technician communication”, “dentist technician survey”, “dental fixed architecture” e “dental technicians fabrication”, através dos motores de busca Pubmed, Scielo e Science Direct, foi realizada uma revisão de literatura com o intuito de avaliar a comunicação entre TPD e MD. Procurou-se caracterizar que tipos de erros que podem ser cometidos, bem como formas para melhorar a comunicação. Após a revisão, constatou-se que existe uma grande deficiência a nível de comunicação entre MD e TPD e que tal facto induz a que um trabalho perca em termos de qualidade. Também se verificou que os erros cometidos são a nível académico e profissional, proporcionando a que o trabalho final resulte na insatisfação do paciente, bem como dos profissionais envolvidos.

Este trabalho propõe um estudo sobre códigos numéricos e detecção de erros de transmissão. Os códigos são de uso rotineiro, sua estrutura é simples e motiva alguns aspectos da teoria de divisibilidade, de uma forma diferenciada. A pesquisa trata da estrutura de alguns códigos e, com cálculos simples, detecta-se a presença de um erro de transmissão. Por fim, fazemos uma proposta pedagógica, a qual almeja fomentar hábitos de pesquisa no aprendiz e, especialmente, colocar a Matemática como uma ciência do seu cotidiano.

A significant part of the life of a mechanical component occurs, the crack propagation stage in fatigue. Currently, it is had several mathematical models to describe the crack growth behavior. These models are classified into two categories in terms of stress range amplitude: constant and variable. In general, these propagation models are formulated as an initial value problem, and from this, the evolution curve of the crack is obtained by applying a numerical method. This dissertation presented the application of the methodology "Fast Bounds Crack" for the establishment of upper and lower bounds functions for model evolution of crack size. The performance of this methodology was evaluated by the relative deviation and computational times, in relation to approximate numerical solutions obtained by the Runge-Kutta method of 4th explicit order (RK4). Has been reached a maximum relative deviation of 5.92% and the computational time was, for examples solved, 130,000 times more higher than achieved by the method RK4. Was performed yet an Engineering application in order to obtain an approximate numerical solution, from the arithmetic mean of the upper and lower bounds obtained in the methodology applied in this work, when you don’t know the law of evolution. The maximum relative error found in this application was 2.08% which proves the efficiency of the methodology "Fast Bounds Crack".
