CODAPACK3D. A new version of Compositional Data Package

The statistical analysis of compositional data should be treated using logratios of parts, which are difficult to use correctly in standard statistical packages. For this reason a freeware package, named CoDaPack was created. This software implements most of the basic statistical methods suitable for compositional data. In this paper we describe the new version of the package that now is called CoDaPack3D. It is developed in Visual Basic for applications (associated with Excel©), Visual Basic and Open GL, and it is oriented towards users with a minimum knowledge of computers with the aim at being simple and easy to use. This new version includes new graphical output in 2D and 3D. These outputs could be zoomed and, in 3D, rotated. Also a customization menu is included and outputs could be saved in jpeg format. Also this new version includes an interactive help and all dialog windows have been improved in order to facilitate its use. To use CoDaPack one has to access Excel© and introduce the data in a standard spreadsheet. These should be organized as a matrix where Excel© rows correspond to the observations and columns to the parts. The user executes macros that return numerical or graphical results. There are two kinds of numerical results: new variables and descriptive statistics, and both appear on the same sheet. Graphical output appears in independent windows. In the present version there are 8 menus, with a total of 38 submenus which, after some dialogue, directly call the corresponding macro. The dialogues ask the user to input variables and further parameters needed, as well as where to put these results. The web site http://ima.udg.es/CoDaPack contains this freeware package and only Microsoft Excel© under Microsoft Windows© is required to run the software. Adding new components to the knowledge plane GMPLS over WDM networks

A recent study defines a new network plane: the knowledge plane. The incorporation of the knowledge plane over the network allows having more accurate information of the current and future network states. In this paper, the introduction and management of the network reliability information in the knowledge plane is proposed in order to improve the quality of service with protection routing algorithms in GMPLS over WDM networks. Different experiments prove the efficiency and scalability of the proposed scheme in terms of the percentage of resources used to protect the network

El manejo de los acervos digitales en la UNAM

Se describe la iniciativa actual que realiza la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) en torno a la administración de sus acervos digitales. Se presenta el modelo de manejo de recursos digitales y sus tres principales divisiones: publicaciones formales, páginas institucionales y otros recursos (literatura gris y bases de datos). Posteriormente se detallan tres proyectos específicos dentro de este marco: RAD repositorio institucional de la UNAM, sistema de revistas digitales UNAM y UNIBIO (Unidad de Informática para la Biodiversidad). Por último se describen los principales retos a futuro, principalmente la importancia del cabildeo con autoridades universitarias acerca del valor de la correcta administración de recursos digitales, la necesidad de desarrollar indicadores más eficientes para medir producción, impacto y visibilidad de recursos digitales y temas relacionados con el mantenimiento y preservación de los mismos.

Determinación de la prevalencia de infección y coinfección por virus del papiloma humano (vph) y asociación con diferentes factores de riesgo

Los objetivos de este estudio fueron proveer datos con respecto a los patrones de infección de seis tipos de Papilomavirus humano de Alto Riesgo (AR-VPH-16, -18, -31, -33, -45, y -58) y dos tipos de Bajo Riesgo BR-VPH- 6 and -11), su asociación con factores de riesgo y coinfección. Se probaron muestras cervicales de 2110 mujeres para evaluar la presencia de DNA de HPV por reacción en cadena de la polimerasa. Se realizaron análisis estadísticos para determinar las frecuencias de los tipos virales encontrados en infecciones únicas y múltiples y la asociación entre infección y diferentes factores poblacionales. El tipo más prevalente fue VPH-16 seguido de VPH-31, siendo la distribución de éste último, variable según las diferentes ciudades analizadas. Los resultados evidenciaron una distribución tipo-específica diferencial entre regiones y una alta asociación entre ausencia de embarazos, ciudades como Girardot y Leticia, pertenecer a la etnia indígena (analizada en este estudio) y la adquisición de infecciones múltiples. Adicionalmente los datos sugieren que algunos factores sociodemográficos como la raza, el número de embarazos, el número de compañeros sexuales y la región geográfica se asocian significativamente y mostraron diferencias menores entre infecciones únicas y múltiples. Estos resultados proveen información relevante que permitirá evaluar el impacto de los programas de vacunación en estas poblaciones y la presión selectiva que podría tener la distribución de los tipos de VPH.
