Seagram Museum Collection

The Seagram Museum was opened on May 16th, 1984 by the Honourable William G. Davis, Premier of Ontario. The museum was devoted to the history and technology of the wine and spirit industry. The museum focused on wine-making and distillation, as well as barrel-making and cork manufacturing. The museum was located adjacent to the Seagram Distillery in Waterloo, Ontario. In 1997, the museum closed due to lack of funds.

The letter describes Eleanore Celeste's time away with her brother. She has spent her time canoeing, playing golf, dancing and plans to attend the movies. The next day is a sailing trip to see Plymouth Rock. The next week she will be in Connecticut and then home.

Alberta Price List No. 3., January 1st, 1925

A price list form for the Alberta Liquor Control Board from 1 January 1925. The price list includes "General Information" in regards to permits for individuals and special permits. The alcohol is then listed by category for pricing: Scotch Whisky, Irish Whisky, Rye Whisky, Bourbon Whisky, Rum, Gin, Brandy, Port, Native Wine, Italian (Type) Wines, Sherry, Claret, Burgundy, White Wine, Sparkling Wine, Vermouth, Cocktails, Liqueurs, Champagne, Bitters, Ale and Stout, Chinese Liquors.

Sir Robert Burnett Labels

A collection of Sir Robert Burnett labels. The company was established in England in 1770, but these labels read "Distilled and Bottled according to the Original Formula of Sir Robert Burnett Co., Ltd. London W.I., England by The Sir Robert Burnett Co. A Division of Distillers Corporation Ltd. Montreal, Canada".

Gooderham's Labels

A collection of Gooderham's labels that include: Bonded Stock Canadian Whisky, London Dry Gin, Big Brown Jug Canadian Rye Whiskey, and Rich and Rare Canadian Whiskey. The labels indicate the distillery was established in 1832, Toronto, and is Canada's first.

Hiram Walker Labels

Six labels from the Hiram Walker Company, established 1858. The labels are from Gold Crest Canadian Whiskey, Crystal London Dry Gin, Peppermint Schnapps Liqueur, Creme de Menthe, Crystal Vodka Distilled, and Canadian Club Canadian Whiskey.

A sensitive fibre optic pH sensor using multiple sol–gel coatings

The fabrication and characterization of a fibre optic pH sensor based on evanescent wave absorption is presented. The unclad portion of a multi-mode optical fibre is coated with a pH sensitive dye, which is immobilized by the sol–gel route. The sensitivity of the device has been found to increase when multiple sol–gel coatings are used as the sensing region. The dynamic range and the temporal response of the sensor are investigated for two different dyes, namely bromocresol purple and bromocresol green. The performance of the device is evaluated in terms of the results obtained during actual measurements.

NIR to UV absorption spectra and the optical constants of phthalocyanines in glassy medium

Optical absorption studies of phthalocyanines (Pc-s) in borate glass matrix have been reported for the first time. Measurements have been done corresponding to photon energies between 1.1 and 6.2 eV for free base, manganese, iron, nickel, molybdenum, cobalt and copper phthalocyanines. Several new discrete transitions are observed in the UV–vis region of the spectra in addition to a strong continuum component of absorption in the IR region. Values of some of the important optical constants viz. absorption coefficient (α), molar extinction coefficient (ε), absorption cross-section (σa), band width (Δλ), electric dipole strength (q2) and oscillator strength (f) for the relevant electronic transitions are also presented. All the data reported for Pc-s in the new matrix have been compared with those corresponding to solution, vapor and thin film media.

Optical properties of porphyrins in borate glassy matrix

Optical properties of free and substituted porphyrins (PP) doped borate glass matrix are reported for the first time. Absorption spectral measurements of H2TPP, CdTPP, MgTPP and ZnTPP doped borate glass matrix have been made in the 200–1100 nm region and the spectra obtained are analyzed to obtain the optical bandgap (Eg) and other important spectral parameters viz. oscillator strength (f), molar extinction coefficient (ε), electric dipole strength (q2), absorption cross-section (σa) and molecular concentration (N). Intense fluorescence was observed in the region 668–685 nm for CdTPP, ZnTPP and MgTPP doped matrices, whereas no such fluorescence was observed in H2TPP doped matrix. Fluorescence intensity was observed to be almost similar in all the metallated porphyrine matrices. Fluorescence bandwidth (Δλ), decay time (τ), stimulated emission cross-section (σ) and optical gain (G) of the principal fluorescence transitions corresponding to the Q-band excitation were also evaluated and discussed.

Los objetivos propuestos en el documento son dotar al alumnos de unos h??bitos de experimentaci??n y reflexi??n, as?? como insertar el trabajo escolar en su entorno. Como t??cnica fundamental los autores proponen la salida, como punto de partida para iniciar procesos de investigaci??n y descubrimiento en el aula. Este trabajo es una propuesta de programaci??n flexible para que el profesor pueda adaptarlo a su realidad, a la vez que va contrastando su intervenci??n con el anteproyecto de reformulaci??n de las ense??anzas del ciclo medio de EGB del MEC.

Planteamiento e interpretación de problemas contextualizados de extremos

Según Polya (1962), la principal finalidad de las matemáticas del currículum de secundaria es enseñar a los alumnos a PENSAR. Este "pensar" lo identificamos, al menos en una primera aproximación, con "la resolución de problemas”, considerada de suma importancia en el currículum de matemáticas de nuestro país (Departament d’Educació, 2008). Además de una herramienta para aprender a “pensar matemáticamente”, la resolución de problemas la consideramos, en sí misma, como un método de enseñanza: es la interacción con situaciones problemáticas la que hace que los alumnos construyan activamente su conocimiento (Vila y Callejo, 2004; Onrubia y otros, 2001)
