Cooperative Effects of Electron Donors and Acceptors for the Stabilization of Elusive Metal Cluster Frameworks: Synthesis and Solid-State Structures of Pt-19(CO)(24)(mu(4)-AuPPh3)(3)](-) and Pt-19(CO)(24){mu(4)-Au-2(PPh3)(2)}(2)]

The anionic cluster Pt-19(CO)(22)](4-) (1), of pentagonal symmetry, reacts with CO and AuPPh3+ fragments. Upon increasing the Au:Pt-19, molar ratio, different species are sequentially formed, but only the last two members of the series could be characterized by X-ray diffraction, namely, Pt-19(CO)(24)(mu(4)-AuPPh3)(3)](-) (2) and Pt-19(CO)(24){mu(4)-Au-2(PPh3)(2)}(2)] (3).The metallic framework of the starting cluster is completely modified after the addition of CO and AuL+, and both products display the same platinum core of trigonal symmetry, with closely packed metal atoms. The three AuL+ units cap three different square faces in 2, whereas four AuL+ fragments are grouped in two independent bimetallic units in the neutral cluster 3. Electrochemical and spectroelectrochemical studies on 2 showed that its redox ability is comparable with that of the homometallic 1.

Reduction in the level of Gal(alpha1,3)Gal in transgenic mice and pigs by the expression of an alpha(1,2)fucosyltransferase.

Hyperacute rejection of a porcine organ by higher primates is initiated by the binding of xenoreactive natural antibodies of the recipient to blood vessels in the graft leading to complement activation. The majority of these antibodies recognize the carbohydrate structure Gal(alphal,3)Gal (gal epitope) present on cells of pigs. It is possible that the removal or lowering of the number of gal epitopes on the graft endothelium could prevent hyperacute rejection. The Gal(alpha1,3) Gal structure is formed by the enzyme Galbeta1,4GlcNAc3-alpha-D-galactosyltransferase [alpha(1,3)GT; EC 2.4.1.51], which transfers a galactose molecule to terminal N-acetyllactosamine (N-lac) present on various glycoproteins and glycolipids. The N-lac structure might be utilized as an acceptor by other glycosyltransferases such as Galbeta1,4GlcNAc 6-alpha-D-sialyltransferase [alpha(2,6)ST], Galbeta1,4GlcNAc 3-alpha-D-Sialyltransferase [alpha(2,3)ST], or Galbeta 2-alpha-L-fucosyltransferase [alpha(1,2)FT; EC 2.4.1.691, etc. In this report we describe the competition between alpha(1,2)FT and alpha(1,3)GT in cells in culture and the generation of transgenic mice and transgenic pigs that express alpha(1,2)Fr leading to synthesis of Fucalpha,2Galbeta- (H antigen) and a concomitant decrease in the level of Gal(alpha1,3)Gal. As predicted, this resulted in reduced binding of xenoreactive natural antibodies to endothelial cells of transgenic mice and protection from complement mediated lysis.

Organocatalytic Asymmetric α-Chlorination of 1,3-Dicarbonyl Compounds Catalyzed by 2-Aminobenzimidazole Derivatives

Bifunctional chiral 2-aminobenzimidazole derivatives 1 and 2 catalyze the enantioselective stereodivergent α-chlorination of β-ketoesters and 1,3-diketone derivatives with up to 50% ee using N-chlorosuccinimide (NCS) or 2,3,4,4,5,6-hexachloro-2,5-cyclohexadien-1-one as electrophilic chlorine sources.

Interacções estabelecidas entre crianças dos 2 e 3 anos

O presente trabalho, elaborado no âmbito do Mestrado em Educação Pré-escolar, está inscrito na área científica da própria supervisão. Teve como objetivo principal aprofundar e reflectir sobre o tipo de relação que as crianças de 2/3 anos estabelecem nas interações entre pares. Como no decorrer dessas interações muitas vezes está presente a mediação do adulto, procuramos também compreender o modelo do adulto e a forma como poderá criar um clima positivo. A metodologia utilizada foi de abordagem qualitativa, tendo como método a observação naturalista através da recolha de dados e notas de campo. Esta recolha foi realizada no local de estágio, numa sala de creche.
