The Iowa Transportation Commission (Commission) and Iowa Department of Transportation (Iowa DOT) develop Iowa’s Five-Year Transportation Improvement Program (Five-Year Program) to inform Iowans of planned investments in our state’s multi-modal transportation system. The Five-Year Program is typically updated and approved each year in June. The Five-Year Program encompasses investments in aviation, transit, railroads, trails, and highways. This brochure describes the programming process used by the Commission and Iowa DOT to develop the highway section of the Five-Year Program.

El Servei d'Avaluació, Seguiment i Selecció de l'ISPC han elaborat un estudi sobre el perfil de personalitat dels aspirants al Curs de Formació bàsica per policies, que es va presentar a l'International Society for the Study of Individual Differences Meeting celebrat al CosmoCaixa de Barcelona i que organitzen conjuntament l’Associació Iberoamericana per a la recerca de les diferències individuals i la Universitat de Barcelona. L’estudi, titulat Revised NEO Personality Inventory Normative Data for Catalan police officer selection: A preliminary study, té com a objectiu comparar els perfils de personalitat d’una mostra d’aspirants de l’ISPC amb els resultats d’una mostra d’aspirants a policia dels EUA, publicada en una revista científica de prestigi el mes de febrer passat. Els resultats mostren que els aspirants catalans destaquen per obtenir millors puntuacions en les dimensions de responsabilitat i amabilitat, cosa que indicaria que aquest tret es valora especialment durant el procés de selecció de la policia de Catalunya; en altres característiques de la personalitat les dues mostres obtenen resultats similars. Els trets característics del perfil del policia català seria el de persones estables emocionalment, poc impulsives, amb capacitat per gestionar l’estrés, orientades a les persones, agradables, sociables, responsables, disciplinades i cauteloses. The Iowa Transportation Improvement Program (Program) is published to inform Iowans of planned investments in our state’s transportation system. The Iowa Transportation Commission (Commission) and Iowa Department of Transportation (Iowa DOT) are committed to programming those investments in a fiscally responsible manner. A major component of the 2010-2014 Program is the full integration of funding allocated to the Iowa DOT from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (Recovery Act). To date, the Recovery Act has provided over $400 million of additional federal funding for transportation in Iowa, including funding that is allocated to local governments and entities. Recovery Act funding will result in a record year for transportation construction in Iowa and the creation and retention of jobs. Opportunities for additionalRecovery Act transportation funding remain and will be pursued as they becomeavailable. While Recovery Act funding will make a one-time significant impact in addressing Iowa’s backlog of needs, it is important to note that there remains a large shortfall in sustained annual transportation investment to meet Iowa’s current and future critical transportation needs. In recognition of this shortfall, Governor Culver introduced and the legislature passed an I-JOBS proposal. I-JOBS will result in an additional $50 million of state funding to reduce structurally deficient and functionally obsolete bridges on the primary road system and approximately $10 million in funding for other modes of transportation including $3 million of new funding to support the expansion of passenger rail service in Iowa. I-JOBS, and the continuing gradual increase in funding due to TIME-21, will complement and extend the benefits of Recovery Act funding and set the stage for addressing the shortfall in annual funding in the next few years. Iowa’s transportation system is multi-modal; therefore, the Program encompasses investments in aviation, transit, railroads, trails, and highways. A major component of the Program is the highway section. The FY2010-2014 highway section is financially balanced and was developed to achieve several objectives. The Commission’s primary highway investment objective is stewardship (i.e. safety, maintenance and preservation) of Iowa’s existing highway system. The highway section includes an annual average of $104 million for preserving the interstate system; an annual average of $78 million for non-interstate pavement preservation; an annual average of $36 million for non-interstate bridges; and an annual average of $14 million for safety projects. Another objective is to maintain the scheduled completion of interstate and non-interstate capacity and economic development projects that were identified in the previous Program and this Program does so. The final Commission objective is to further address capacity and economic development needs and the Commission has done so by adding several such projects to the Program. Construction improvements are partially funded through the current federal transportation act, Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU). The act will expire September 30, 2009. With the expiration of SAFETEA-LU, there is significant uncertainty in the forecast of federal revenues in the out-years of this Program. The Commission and Iowa DOT will monitor federal actions closely and make adjustments to the Program as necessary. The Iowa DOT and Commission appreciate the public’s involvement in the state’s transportation planning process. Comments received personally, by letter, or through participation in the Commission’s regular meetings or public input meetings held around the state each year are invaluable in providing guidance for the future of Iowa’s transportation system. The unconfined compression strength is a geotechnical parameter frequently used to determine the bearing capacity of foundations on clayey soils. Its value can be obtained from the unconfined compression test and, among several in situ tests, the standard penetration test (SPT). However, a comparison between the values of such a strength determined by both tests in CL, CL-ML and CH soils shows that it does not exist an approximate relationship. In any case it is remarkable that values of the test conducted in the laboratory fit between the lower and the higher ones calculated from the standard penetration number. This is very important for those geotechnical reports in which the unconfined compression strength is only based on the SPT. In this way, if the lower value is taken to evaluate the ultimate soilbearing capacity the result will not be very accurate but it will probably be by the side of safety

Objetivos: avaluar tasas de respuestas y seguridad, a las 24 semanas del inicio de tratamiento, en pacientes monoinfectados por VHC y coinfectados VIH/VHC con Telaprevir. Métodos: estudio descriptivo transversal de los pacientes mono y coinfectados (tanto “naive”, recaedores, no respondedores y respondedores parciales), tratados con Telaprevir en una Unidad de Enfermedades Infecciosas. Se recogieron los datos demográficos de cada paciente, datos analíticos, inmunológicos y virológicos así como la determinación de polimorfismo IL B28. Se recogen datos basales y a las 4, 8, 12 y 24 semanas. Resultados: un total de 43 pacientes analizados que iniciaron tratamiento con Telaprevir. Completan tratamiento hasta 12 semanas los 43, y hasta la semana 24 con Peginterferon y Rivabirina un total de 35 pacientes. Un 48% eran pacientes monoinfectados y un 51% coinfectados VIH-VHC. Un 80% eran hombres y un 20% mujeres, con una edad media de 52 años +/- 8´79. A las 12 semanas, un 76% de los pacientes monoinfectados y un 86% de los coinfectados tenían indetectable VHC, y a las 24 semanas un 86% de los monoinfectados y un 90% de los coinfectados, mantenían respuesta viral en tratamiento, sin ser estas diferencias estadísticamente significativas. De la misma forma no se encontraron diferencias estadísticamente significativas en las proporciones de efectos secundarios. Conclusiones: la efectividad y la seguridad del tratamiento con triple terapia que incluye Teleprevir en la infección crónica de VHC, son similares en pacientes monoinfectados y coinfectados.

En aquest treball hem analitzat què és l’espai públic a partir d’un recorregut històric i la importància que en ell juguen els drets i llibertats fonamentals. El límit de la salvaguarda de la seguretat que s’aplica a aquests drets en l’espai públic suposa la reducció d’aquest espai que en principi seria un espai que deuria existir pel caràcter públic d’aquestes llibertats i drets que, segons la nostra constitució, son inherents a la dignitat de l’home. En canvi, a partir de tota la jurisprudència recollida, ens trobem davant d’una reducció d’aquest espai entès com una concessió per part de l’Estat d’uns drets a l’individu que aquest pugui exercir amb uns límits determinats.

Food safety today is conditiones by the implementation of new Tecnologies for food preservation based on mild treatments and mínimum process, Novel foods, severe restrictions in the toxicològic profile of chemical preservatives, And the drastic limitation /prohibition of antibiotics, and as a consequence, by the New emergint pathogens or by the increase of classical food-borne pathogens. Biopreservatives appear within this context with strong expectations, because thei are safe microorganisms of ten isolated from foods, chemical compounds of natural origin -antimicrobial peptides and proteins, botanical extracts, enzymes- and sintetic compounds based on natural structures, but less toxic and more eficients, like the amtimicrobial peptides. Among the microbial biopreservatives, lactic acid bacteria have shown great possibilities in the preservation of cured meat products, ready to eat fresh fruit and vegetables, as well as to decrease microbial spoilage in food by products before processing for valorization. Our laboratory has performed an extense survey of the microbiological quality of fresh fruit and vegetables, and of ready-to-eat products, and have detect low levels, but significant of Salmonella sp., E. coli and Listeria spp., including L.monocytogenes, in retail markets and Supermarkets of Catalonia. Due to this reason, we started a project consisting of Developing application of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) obtained from these products, as biopreservatives. LAB were abundant in ready-to-eat fresh fruits and vegetables, specially in germinated seeds. From these products we obtained strains of Leuconostoc, Lactobacillus and Weissella, producing bacteriocins and with a Significant activity of control of L.monocytogenes in fresh apple and cut salad. Ather strains were efective in the inhibition of fungal rot during postharvest caused by Penicillium expansum

En la actualidad existe una Comisión Delegada para el Servicio de Inspección, integrada por cuatro Vocales del Consejo General del Poder Judicial, y la Inspección está compuesta por una Jefatura del Servicio, con de un Jefe, un Adjunto y un Secretario, que configuran la Unidad Central y trece Unidades Inspectoras, formadas por dos, tres o cuatro Letrados, cada una de las cuales tiene asignados, o bien todos los órganos de un determinado orden jurisdiccional: penal, violencia sobre la mujer, menores, vigilancia penitenciaria, incapacidades, contencioso-administrativo, social y mercantil, o bien todos los órganos de 1ª Instancia, Instrucción y Mixtos de cada una de las Comunidades Autónomas, una de ellas se ocupa de todas las Audiencias Provinciales del territorio español y la Unidad Central tiene asignado el Tribunal Supremo, los Tribunales Superiores de Justicia, la Audiencia Nacional y los Tribunales y Juzgados Togados. Hay además un coordinador territorial por cada Comunidad Autónoma, que es quien coordina la información procedente de todos los órganos de su territorio, independientemente del Orden Jurisdiccional de que se trate, así como un coordinador por cada jurisdicción, trabajando todos en equipo. Forma también parte del Servicio, la Sección de Informes, que tramita, en coordinación con la Unidad de Atención Ciudadana, las quejas y denuncias presentadas por los ciudadanos, cuando éstas puedan dar lugar a responsabilidad disciplinaria de un Juez o Magistrado.

Encara que habitualment es realitza sota anestèsia general, la cirurgia de la mama es pot dur a terme mitjançant un bloqueig paravertebral toràcic (BPVT). Amb les avantatges conegudes de l’anestèsia regional i les que ens aporta l’ecografia per aconseguir millor eficàcia i seguretat del bloqueig, presentem una sèrie de 43 casos emmarcats en una nova guia clínica del servei d’anestesiologia. Els resultats indiquen que el BPVT ecoguiat és altament segur i aconsegueix un molt bon control del dolor postoperatori, amb requeriments mínims de rescat analgèsic, i amb nul•la incidència de nàusees i vòmits postoperatoris.

Les missions Petersberg són l'operatiu militar més ambiciós organitzat per la Unió Europea en el desenvolupament de la CSDP, Política Europea de Seguretat i Defensa. Amb l'objectiu d'aconseguir una organització efectiva y funcional d'aquestes missions, és desitjable que les cultures estratègiques dels diferents Estats membres siguin, en gran mesura, compatibles en benefici d'una cultura estratègica europea amb directrius clares. Aquest estudi compara les cultures estratègiques d'Alemanya, el Regne Unit i França en referència al seu nivell de compatibilitat contrastant-les amb dos casos recents, exemples paradigmàtics de cultures estratègiques integrals. D'aquesta manera, pretenem descriure les circumstàncies en què es desenvolupen les missions Petersberg.

Modern scholarship often discusses Roman women in terms of their difference from their male counterparts, frequently defining them as 'other'. This book shows how Roman male writers at the turn of the first century actually described women as not so different from men: the same qualities and abilities pertaining to the domains of parenthood, intellect and morals are ascribed by writers to women as well as to men. There are two voices, however: a traditional, ideal voice and an individual, realistic voice. This creates a duality of representations of women, which recurs across literary genres and reflects a duality of mentality. How can we interpret the paradoxical information about Roman women given by the male-authored texts? How does this duality of mentality inform us about gender roles and gender hierarchy? This work analyses well-known, as well as overlooked, passages from the writings of Pliny the Younger, Tacitus, Suetonius, Quintilian, Statius, Martial and Juvenal and sheds new light on Roman views of women and their abilities, on the notions of private and public and on conjugal relationships. In the process, the famous sixth satire of Juvenal is revisited and its topic reassessed, providing further insights into the complex issues of gender roles, marriage and emotions. By contrasting representations of women across a broad spectrum of literary genres, this book provides consistent findings that have wide significance for the study of Latin literature and the social history of the late first and early second centuries.
