In this paper, we present a decoding principle for Goppa codes constructed by generalized polynomials, which is based on modified Berlekamp-Massey algorithm. This algorithm corrects all errors up to the Hamming weight $t\leq 2r$, i.e., whose minimum Hamming distance is $2^{2}r+1$.

We report the component E ┴ c of the pseudodielectric-function tensor <ε(E)> = <ε1(E)> + i< ε2(E)> of γ-phase single-crystal InSe, obtained from 1.5 to 9.2 eV by vacuum-ultraviolet spectroscopic ellipsometry with the sample at room temperature. Overlayer artifacts were reduced as far as possible by measuring fresh surfaces prepared by cleavage. Accurate critical-point energies of observed structures were obtained by a combined method of spectral analysis.

We report changes in plasma arginine vasopressin (AVP) and oxytocin (OT) concentrations evoked by the microinjection of L-glutamate (L-glu) into the hypothalamic supraoptic nucleus (SON) and paraventricular nucleus(PVN) of unanesthetized rats, as well as which local mechanisms are involved in their mediation. L-Glu microinjection (10 nmol/100 nl) into the SON increased the circulating levels of both AVP and OT. The AVP increases were blocked by local pretreatment with the selective non-N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor antagonist 2,3-dioxo-6-nitro-1,2,3,4-tetrahydrobenzo[f]quinoxaline-7-sulfonamide (NBQX) (2 nmol/100 nl), but it was not affected by pretreatment with the NMDA-receptor antagonist LY235959 (2 nmol/100 nl). The OT response to L-glu microinjection into the SON was blocked by local pretreatment with either NBQX or LY235959. Furthermore, the administration of either the non-NMDA receptor agonist (+/-)-alpha-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methylisoxazole-4-propionic acid hydrobromide (AMPA) (5 nmol/100 nl) or NMDA receptor agonist NMDA (5 nmol/100 nl) into the SON had no effect on OT baseline plasma levels, but when both agonists were microinjected together these levels were increased. L-Glu microinjection into the PVN did not change circulating levels of either AVP or OT. However, after local pretreatment with LY235959, the L-glu microinjection increased plasma levels of the hormones. The L-glu microinjection into the PVN after the local treatment with NBQX did not affect the circulating AVP and OT levels. Therefore, results suggest the AVP release from the SON is mediated by activation of non-NMDA glutamate receptors, whereas the OT release from this nucleus is mediated by an interaction of NMDA and non-NMDA receptors. The present study also suggests an inhibitory role for NMDA receptors in the PVN on the release of AVP and OT. (Endocrinology 153: 2323-2331, 2012)

Alcoholism is a chronic disorder characterized by the appearance of a withdrawal syndrome following the abrupt cessation of alcohol intake that includes symptoms of physical and emotional disturbances, anxiety being the most prevalent symptom. In humans, it was shown that anxiety may increase the probability of relapse. In laboratory animals, however, the use of anxiety to predict alcohol preference has remained difficult. Excitatory amino acids as glutamate have been implicated in alcohol hangover and may be responsible for the seizures and anxiety observed during withdrawal. The dorsal periaqueductal gray (DPAG) is a midbrain region critical for the modulation/expression of anxiety- and fear-related behaviors and the propagation of seizures induced by alcohol withdrawal, the glutamate neurotransmission being one of the most affected. The present study was designed to evaluate whether low- (LA) and high-anxiety rats (HA), tested during the alcohol hangover phase, in which anxiety is the most prevalent symptom, are more sensitive to the reinforcing effects of alcohol when tested in a voluntary alcohol drinking procedure. Additionally, we were interested in investigating the main effects of reducing the excitatory tonus of the dorsal midbrain, after the blockade of the ionotropic glutamate receptors into the DPAG, on the voluntary alcohol intake of HA and LA motivated rats that were made previously experienced with the free operant response of alcohol drinking. For this purpose, we used local infusions of the N-metil D-Aspartato (NMDA) and alpha-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methyl-4-isoxazolepropionic acid (AMPA)-kainate receptors antagonist DL-2-Amino-7-phosphonoheptanoic acid - DL-AP7 (10 nmol/0.2 mu l) and L-glutamic acid diethyl ester - GDEE (160 nmol/0.2 mu l) respectively. Alcohol intoxication was produced by 10 daily bolus intraperitonial (IP) injections of alcohol (2.0 g/kg). Peak-blood alcohol levels were determined by gas-chromatography analysis in order to assess blood-alcohol content. Unconditioned and conditioned anxiety-like behavior was assessed by the use of the fear-potentiated startle procedure (FPS). Data collected showed that anxiety and alcohol drinking in HA animals are positively correlated in animals that were made previously familiarized with the anxiolytic effects of alcohol. In addition, anxiety-like behavior induced during alcohol hangover seems to be an effect of changes in glutamatergic neurotransmission into DPAG possibly involving AMPA/kainate and NMDA receptors, among others. Most of the patients with 5 alpha-RD 2 deficiency are reared in the female social sex due to their severely undervirilized external genitalia but similar to 60% who have not been submitted to orchiectomy in childhood undergo male social sex change at puberty. In our cohort of 30 cases from 18 families, all subjects were registered in the female social sex except for two children-one who had an affected uncle and the other who was diagnosed before being registered. The majority of the patients were satisfied with the long-term results of their treatment and surprisingly, penile length was not associated with satisfactory or unsatisfactory sexual activity. Steroid 5 alpha-RD2 deficiency should be included in the differential diagnosis of all newborns with 46,XY DSD with normal testosterone production before gender assignment or any surgical intervention because these patients should be considered males at birth.

The magnetic moments of the low-lying spin-parity J(P) = 1/2(-), 3/2(-) Lambda resonances, like, for example, Lambda(1405) 1/2(-), Lambda(1520) 3/2(-), as well as their transition magnetic moments, are calculated using the chiral quark model. The results found are compared with those obtained from the nonrelativistic quark model and those of unitary chiral theories, where some of these states are generated through the dynamics of two hadron coupled channels and their unitarization.

Neuronal precursor cell-expressed developmentally down-regulated 4 (Nedd4) proteins are ubiquitin ligases, which attach ubiquitin moieties to their target proteins, a post-translational modification that is most commonly associated with protein degradation. Nedd4 ubiquitin ligases have been shown to down-regulate both potassium and sodium channels. In this study, we investigated whether Nedd4 ubiquitin ligases also regulate Ca(v) calcium channels. We expressed three Nedd4 family members, Nedd4-1, Nedd4-2, and WWP2, together with Ca(v)1.2 channels in tsA-201 cells. We found that Nedd4-1 dramatically decreased Ca(v) whole-cell currents, whereas Nedd4-2 and WWP2 failed to regulate the current. Surface biotinylation assays revealed that Nedd4-1 decreased the number of channels inserted at the plasma membrane. Western blots also showed a concomitant decrease in the total expression of the channels. Surprisingly, however, neither the Ca(v) pore-forming α1 subunit nor the associated Ca(v)β and Ca(v)α(2)δ subunits were ubiquitylated by Nedd4-1. The proteasome inhibitor MG132 prevented the degradation of Ca(v) channels, whereas monodansylcadaverine and chloroquine partially antagonized the Nedd4-1-induced regulation of Ca(v) currents. Remarkably, the effect of Nedd4-1 was fully prevented by brefeldin A. These data suggest that Nedd4-1 promotes the sorting of newly synthesized Ca(v) channels for degradation by both the proteasome and the lysosome. Most importantly, Nedd4-1-induced regulation required the co-expression of Ca(v)β subunits, known to antagonize the retention of the channels in the endoplasmic reticulum. Altogether, our results suggest that Nedd4-1 interferes with the chaperon role of Ca(v)β at the endoplasmic reticulum/Golgi level to prevent the delivery of Ca(v) channels at the plasma membrane.
Transient rhythmic network activity in the somatosensory cortex evoked by distributed input in vitro

The initiation and maintenance of physiological and pathophysiological oscillatory activity depends on the synaptic interactions within neuronal networks. We studied the mechanisms underlying evoked transient network oscillation in acute slices of the adolescent rat somatosensory cortex and modeled its underpinning mechanisms. Oscillations were evoked by brief spatially distributed noisy extracellular stimulation, delivered via bipolar electrodes. Evoked transient network oscillation was detected with multi-neuron patch-clamp recordings under different pharmacological conditions. The observed oscillations are in the frequency range of 2-5 Hz and consist of 4-12 mV large, 40-150 ms wide compound synaptic events with rare overlying action potentials. This evoked transient network oscillation is only weakly expressed in the somatosensory cortex and requires increased [K+]o of 6.25 mM and decreased [Ca2+]o of 1.5 mM and [Mg2+]o of 0.5 mM. A peak in the cross-correlation among membrane potential in layers II/III, IV and V neurons reflects the underlying network-driven basis of the evoked transient network oscillation. The initiation of the evoked transient network oscillation is accompanied by an increased [K+]o and can be prevented by the K+ channel blocker quinidine. In addition, a shift of the chloride reversal potential takes place during stimulation, resulting in a depolarizing type A GABA (GABAA) receptor response. Blockade of alpha-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methyl-4-isoxazole-proprionate (AMPA), N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA), or GABA(A) receptors as well as gap junctions prevents evoked transient network oscillation while a reduction of AMPA or GABA(A) receptor desensitization increases its duration and amplitude. The apparent reversal potential of -27 mV of the evoked transient network oscillation, its pharmacological profile, as well as the modeling results suggest a mixed contribution of glutamatergic, excitatory GABAergic, and gap junctional conductances in initiation and maintenance of this oscillatory activity. With these properties, evoked transient network oscillation resembles epileptic afterdischarges more than any other form of physiological or pathophysiological neocortical oscillatory activity.
