While recreational drug use in UK women is prevalent, to date there is little prospective data on patterns of drug use in recreational drug-using women immediately before and during pregnancy. A total of 121 participants from a wide range of backgrounds were recruited to take part in the longitudinal Development and Infancy Study (DAISY) study of prenatal drug use and outcomes. Eighty-six of the women were interviewed prospectively while pregnant and/or soon after their infant was born. Participants reported on use immediately before and during pregnancy and on use over their lifetime. Levels of lifetime drug use of the women recruited were high, with women reporting having used at least four different illegal drugs over their lifetime. Most users of cocaine, 3,4-methylenedioxy-N-methylamphetamine (MDMA) and other stimulants stopped using these by the second trimester and levels of use were low. However, in pregnancy, 64% of the sample continued to use alcohol, 46% tobacco and 48% cannabis. While the level of alcohol use reduced substantially, average tobacco and cannabis levels tended to be sustained at pre-pregnancy levels even into the third trimester (50 cigarettes and/or 11 joints per week). In sum, while the use ofparty drugs’ and alcohol seems to reduce, levels of tobacco and cannabis use are likely to be sustained throughout pregnancy. The data provide polydrug profiles that can form the basis for the development of more realistic animal models.

El primer paso de este proyecto es la lectura de una biografía para niños de Salvador Dalí en elo en que se celebra el centenario de su nacimiento, junto a la observación, descripción y análisis de fotos, láminas, postales y distintos objetos relacionados con la vida y profesión del artista. El objetivo final es la realización de una exposición sobre el pintor. Otros objetivos son ampliar el conocimiento de los niños sobre su entorno cultural y las diferentes manifestaciones artísticas; observar, describir y valorar cuadros, esculturas y edificios; utilizar distintas técnicas plásticas como medio de expresión y creatividad a partir de obras de Miró, Picasso, Gris y Tapies; utilizar, comprender y producir distintos textos como medio de comunicación, información y disfrute; potenciar la implicación y participación de las familias en el desarrollo del proyecto. Las actividades se organizan en rincones. En el rinn de construcciones, los niños construyen un monumento de Madrid como la Plaza de toros, Torrespaña, el Puente de Segovia la Plaza Mayor o el Museo del Prado; en el rinn de plástica se realizan monocromos individuales con distintas técnicas; versiones individuales, libres o dirigidas, de cuadros de Miró y Picasso con diversos materiales; y composiciones dirigidas en equipo, de cuadros de Picasso, Matisse, Malevich, Kandinsky y Mondrian; en el rinn de lectura y escritura se realizan las etiquetas de los cuadros y esculturas; talleres para esculpir esculturas tubulares con materiales de desecho; y la invitación en forma de paleta para visitar la exposición.

Proyecto que pretende que los ni??os se aproximen al ordenador utilizado como recurso did??ctico, y de conseguir su integraci??n en la clase. Los objetivos son incorporar el ordenador como recurso en el proceso de ense??anza; facilitar la adquisici??n y descubrimiento de destrezas y capacidades a trav??s de la interacci??n con otros compa??eros y adultos; familiarizar a los ni??os con elementos habituales en la vida cotidiana, como son los ordenadores; familiarizar a los educadores con la utilizaci??n de nuevas tecnolog??as para crear situaciones de aprendizaje motivadoras, que den la posibilidad de desarrollar la creatividad. La metodolog??a se caracteriza por la flexibilidad y las necesidades de cada alumno. Las actividades se plantean dentro de la estrategia del juego por rincones en el aula y se organizan por peque??os grupos e individualmente. La evaluaci??n se realiza a trav??s de fichas de observaci??n por los alumnos, autoevaluaci??n de los educadores, y reuniones. Se elaboran materiales basados en el programa Clic, como puzzles, asociaciones, sonidos de animales, y programas de colorear.

Se presenta un estudio elaborado por la inspección de educación de la Comunidad de Madrid. El objetivo principal es realizar el primer nivel de supervisión de los nuevos currículos en todos los centros que impartirán Educación Secundaria Obligatoria y Bachillerato en el curso académico 2003-2004, sin perjuicio de realizar posteriormente un seguimiento más profundo por muestreo en un número limitado de centros educativos.

Treinta y seis tarjetas muestran en minúscula las letras del alfabeto y algunos conceptos clave, asociadas a una imagen para ayudar a adivinar el sonido de la letra de la carta. Generalmente a esta edad el niño no lee, peropuede reconocer la letra para identificarla al principio o en medio de las palabras. Al final de la publicación están las soluciones a los ejercicios propuestos.

In the field of conducting polymers, both poly(pyrrole) and poly(thiophene) have been investigated extensively and are used currently in a wide variety of applications including microelectronics, electrode materials, sensors and optoelectronics. Amongst these polymers, 3- and 3,4- substituted poly(pyrroles) and poly(thiophenes) have received significant attention in recent years as demonstrated by the increase in the number of patents and publications that describe their use. This review covers the development in the synthesis of 3- and 3,4- Substituted poly(pyrroles) and poly(thiophenes) over the last 30 years, their polymerisation in addition to describing the material properties and applications of the resulting polymers. In particular, this review focuses upon the variety of methodologies employed for the synthesis of 3- and 3,4-substituted pyrroles and thiophenes as well as upon the broad range of functional groups that can be attached to the heterocyclic ring system in order to tailor the properties of the resulting polymers.

Coronaviruses (CoV), like other positive-stranded RNA viruses, redirect and rearrange host cell membranes for use as part of the viral genome replication and transcription machinery. Specifically, coronaviruses induce the formation of double-membrane vesicles in infected cells. Although these double-membrane vesicles have been well characterized, the mechanism behind their formation remains unclear, including which viral proteins are responsible. Here, we use transfection of plasmid constructs encoding full-length versions of the three transmembrane-containing nonstructural proteins (nsps) of the severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) coronavirus to examine the ability of each to induce double-membrane vesicles in tissue culture. nsp3 has membrane disordering and proliferation ability, both in its full-length form and in a C-terminal-truncated form. nsp3 and nsp4 working together have the ability to pair membranes. nsp6 has membrane proliferation ability as well, inducing perinuclear vesicles localized around the microtubule organizing center. Together, nsp3, nsp4, and nsp6 have the ability to induce double-membrane vesicles that are similar to those observed in SARS coronavirus-infected cells. This activity appears to require the full-length form of nsp3 for action, as double-membrane vesicles were not seen in cells coexpressing the C-terminal truncation nsp3 with nsp4 and nsp6. IMPORTANCE Although the majority of infections caused by coronaviruses in humans are relatively mild, the SARS outbreak of 2002 to 2003 and the emergence of the human coronavirus Middle Eastern respiratory syndrome (MERS-CoV) in 2012 highlight the ability of these viruses to cause severe pathology and fatality. Insight into the molecular biology of how coronaviruses take over the host cell is critical for a full understanding of any known and possible future outbreaks caused by these viruses. Additionally, since membrane rearrangement is a tactic used by all known positive-sense single-stranded RNA viruses, this work adds to that body of knowledge and may prove beneficial in the development of future therapies not only for human coronavirus infections but for other pathogens as well.
