Nowadays natural ventilation has gained prominence because its correct use can reduce energy consumption for cooling systems and improve thermal comfort among users. In this paper, we report on the modelling initiative, based on the wind tunnel tests that were carried out for the determination of the influence of natural ventilation in buildings. Indeed, the renewal of air in a closed environment without using an air conditioning system with mechanical elements can lead to energy savings and, in addition, provide air quality.The wind tunnel tests were carried out by varying the positioning of six ventilation modules in the façade system configuration. The modules were positioned below the window-sill (ventilated window-sill) as well as separately above and below the façade. The wind speed measurements were taken inside and outside the model for the different façades configurations to evaluate the best performance in relation to natural ventilation. The results supported the positioning of the six ventilation modules below the window-sill, forming a â ventilated window-sillâ as the most effective natural ventilation solution.

Wind tunnel tests are a reliable tool to determine the effect of natural ventilation on buildings. This paper presents results of wind tunnel tests conducted to evaluate the influence of ventilation modules positioning on a façade system. Modules positioning was modified, resulting in different façade configurations. The tests were carried out with the use of a model, varying the position of the ventilation modules in the façade configuration. The cases tested were six ventilation modules positioned below the window-sill (ventilated window-sill), and three ventilation modules positioned above and below the façade. The façade system proposed was movable and interchangeable so that the same basic model could be used to test the possibilities for ventilation. Wind speed measurements were taken inside and outside the model for the different façades configurations to evaluate the best performance in relation to natural ventilation. Singleâ sided and Cross ventilation were considered for wind speed measurements. Results show the use of six ventilation modules positioned below the window-sill, forming "a ventilated window-sill" is the best solution in terms of natural ventilation.

Introduction: Informal caregivers provide a significant part of the total care needed by dependent older people poststroke. Although informal care is often the preferred option of those who provide and those who receive informal care, informal caregivers often report lack of preparation to take care of older dependent people. This article outlines the development and psychometric testing of informal caregivers’ skills when providing care to older people after a stroke – ECPICID-AVC. Design: Prospective psychometric instrument validation study. Methods: Eleven experts participated in a focus group in order to delineate, develop and validate the instrument. Data were gathered among adult informal caregivers (n = 186) living in the community in Northern Portugal from August 2013 to January 2014. Results: The 32-item scale describes several aspects of informal caregiver’s skills. The scale has eight factors: skill to feed/hydrate by nasogastric feeding, skill to assist the person in personal hygiene, skill to assist the person for transferring, skill to assist the person for positioning, skill to provide technical aids, skill to assist the person to use the toilet, skill to feed/hydrate and skill to provide technical aids for dressing/undressing. Analysis demonstrated adequate internal consistency (Cronbach’s alpha = 0.83) and good temporal stability 0.988 (0.984–0.991). Conclusion: The psychometric properties of the measurement tool showed acceptable results allowing its implementation in clinical practice by the nursing community staff for evaluating practical skills in informal caregivers when providing care to older stroke survivors living at home.

O presente artigo tem como principal objetivo identificar se as marcas publicitárias usaram jogos digitais publicitários, também conhecidos como advergames, nas suas campanhas publicitárias, no período compreendido entre 2005 e 2015. Sabemos que as marcas publicitárias utilizam conteúdos e ferramentas de entretenimento para poderem promover a sua mensagem junto dos seus recetores. E os advergames, cujo termo advém da fusão das palavras inglesas advertising e game, são uma dessas ferramentas de entretenimento que iremos abordar neste artigo. O principal foco deste trabalho partiu de um problema central e transversal à indústria publicitária: os recetores das mensagens publicitárias estão sujeitos diariamente a um elevado número de impactos comunicacionais e muitos deles são capazes de restringir a receção ou ignorar por completo as mensagens publicitárias. A partir deste foco, e como objetivo principal para este artigo, quisemos responder a seguinte problemática: as marcas publicitárias promovem conteúdos e ferramentas de entretenimento, como são o exemplo advergames, nas suas campanhas publicitarias? As marcas publicitárias procuram diferenciação na forma como se aproximam ao recetor e implementam estratégias de entretenimento digital capazes de atrair e melhorar o envolvimento com ele. Assim, os advergames têm-se revelado ferramentas bastante úteis por serem capazes de veicular mensagens persuasivas e envolver o jogador sem a sua oposição por períodos de tempo elevados. Isto porque obriga o recetor, enquanto se diverte, a despender tempo e atenção enquanto joga, o que por consequência poderá dar à marca publicitária tempo e espaço para veicular e persuadir com a sua mensagem. Criamos, com o intuito de responder ao problema um inventário de advergames encontrados por data de implementação, no período compreendido entre 2005-2015. Esta amostra foi definida através de um corpus de análise arbitrário e uma seleção intencional junto de uma lista de prémios de criatividade do festival Cannes Lions.

The conservation of diverse and well-distributed fish taxa, as the genus Leporinus, relies intrinsically on the knowledge of the ecological attributes of its representatives. Aiming to increase this knowledge, studies on diet and ecomorphology are ideal to provide important information about species ecology. Thus, this study aimed to analyze aspects of feeding ecology of L. reticulatus, from the upper Rio Juruena, Mato Grosso State, Brazil. The diet of specimens in different ontogenetic stages was compared, as well as their teeth morphology and ecomorphological attributes. Leporinus reticulatus presented omnivorous diet, with higher consumption of invertebrates by smaller specimens (younger ones), and gradual introduction of plant items in larger specimens (older ones). The items consumed by the individuals and the ecomorphological attributes indicated that the species is generalist and opportunistic, besides its association with the river bottom, evidencing a benthic feeding behavior. This species presents a gradual ontogenetic modification in teeth shape and mouth positioning, ranging from a terminal mouth with tricuspid teeth, in smaller specimens, to an inferior mouth with spatula shaped teeth with no cusps, in larger specimens.The ecomorphological attributes indicate an increasing swimming efficiency, and ability for performing vertical displacements, along the ontogenetic development, which in addition to the morphological ontogenetic alterations in the buccal apparatus, contributes to a better ability to explore another niches.
