The vortex solutions of various classical planar field theories with (Abelian) Chern-Simons term are reviewed. Relativistic vortices, put forward by Paul and Khare, arise when the Abelian Higgs model is augmented with the Chern-Simons term. Adding a suitable sixth-order potential and turning off the Maxwell term provides us with pure Chern-Simons theory, with both topological and non-topological self-dual vortices, as found by Hong-Kim-Pac, and by Jackiw-Lee-Weinberg. The non-relativistic limit of the latter leads to non-topological Jackiw-Pi vortices with a pure fourth-order potential. Explicit solutions are found by solving the Liouville equation. The scalar matter field can be replaced by spinors, leading to fermionic vortices. Alternatively, topological vortices in external field are constructed in the phenomenological model proposed by Zhang-Hansson-Kivelson. Non-relativistic Maxwell-Chern-Simons vortices are also studied. The Schrodinger symmetry of Jackiw-Pi vortices, as well as the construction of some time-dependent vortices, can be explained by the conformal properties of non-relativistic space-time, derived in a Kaluza-Klein-type framework. 本文以室内实验为基础,研究了改性粘土治理有害赤潮的方法对生态环境的影响。研究结果表明:有机和无机改性粘土对溶解氧(DO)、化学耗氧量(COD)、pH等主要水质因子均有改善作用;对营养盐,尤其是磷酸盐有一定的吸附作用,在外加磷酸盐为0-0.3μmol/ml范围内,吸附量随水体中磷酸盐浓度的增加而增大,有机改性粘土对海水中磷酸盐的吸附能力为:有机改性粘土Ⅰ>有机改性粘土Ⅱ>有机改性粘土Ⅲ。通过有机改性粘土对磷酸盐的吸附-再释放情况,进一步探讨了其磷酸盐的释放对赤潮异弯藻(Heterosigma akashiwo)、东海原甲藻(Prorocentrum donghaiense)等赤潮生物生长的影响。实验结果显示,经过有机改性的粘土有利于提高其对磷酸盐的吸附能力,降低对磷酸盐的解吸率,利用有机改性粘土治理赤潮可以缓解海水富营养化程度,即使被吸附的部分磷酸盐能缓慢释放,但仍不足以维持赤潮生物的正常生长。无机改性粘土对磷酸盐和硝酸盐与有机改性粘土有相似的吸附性能。其添加剂PAC的重金属含量符合沉积物排放要求,不会对环境造成压力。 其次,以太平洋牡蛎(Crassostrea gigas)幼贝为对象,研究了有机改性粘土Ⅱ和无机改性粘土在对海洋底栖生物的影响。急性毒性试验中二者对牡蛎幼贝的半致死浓度(LC50)分别为4.62 g/L和2.67 g/L,均远远大于改性粘土去除赤潮藻的浓度。在能够有效去除赤潮微藻的粘土浓度条件下,经慢性毒性试验发现改性粘土对牡蛎幼贝成活率、生长和摄食略有降低,但无明显影响,在牡蛎幼贝鳃组织和消化道组织的超微结构中未发现机械损伤。 最后,研究了改性粘土在对去除有毒赤潮藻过程中对底栖生物的影响。以能产生麻痹性贝毒(PSP)的塔玛亚历山大藻(A. tamarense,ATHK)为例,研究了PSP在水体中和粘土沉积层中的分布,发现改性粘土去除塔玛亚历山大藻能有效降低水体中藻细胞浓度及其所携带的PSP毒素。由于藻细胞破裂, 虽然沉积层中藻细胞体内部分PSP毒素溢出,但通过塔玛亚历山大藻细胞不同组分对牡蛎的影响发现,细胞内容物和细胞碎片对牡蛎没有明显毒副作用,由此推断改性粘土对藻细胞絮凝沉降后,能降低对生物的不良影响。此外,室内实验模拟了去除赤潮生物塔玛亚历山大藻(A. tamarense,ATHK)、东海原甲藻 (P. donghaiense )、赤潮异弯藻 (H. akashiwo)过程中,比较改性粘土和赤潮微藻对生物体的影响发现改性粘土在去除赤潮藻过程中能提高牡蛎的存活率,进一步证明改性粘土在赤潮生物防控中,是一种有效的应急措施。

A rapid and sensitive liquid chromatography-atmospheric pressure chemical ionization mass spectrometry (HPLC-APCI-MS) assay for the determination of five pharmacologically active compounds (PAC) extracted from the traditional Chinese medicine, Rhodiola , namely salidroside, tyrosol, rhodionin, gallic acid, and ethyl gallate has been developed. In this method, PAC could be baseline separated and detected with DAD at 275 nm. The validation of the method, including sensitivity, linearity, repeatability, and recovery, was examined. The linear calibration curves were acquired with correlation coefficient >0.999 and the limits of detection LOD (at a signal-to-noise ratio=3:1) were between 0.058 and 1.500 mu mol/L. It was found, that the amounts of PAC varied with different species of Rhodiola . The established method is rapid and reproducible for the separation of five natural pharmacologically active compounds from extracts of Rhodiola with satisfactory results.

Buscando o aprimoramento das análises de imagens, maior segurança e contínua disponibilização de imagens de satélite para monitoramento orbital das obras do Programa de Aceleração do Crescimento (PAC) do governo federal, uma nova interface de webmapping foi desenvolvida pelas áreas de Gestão Territorial Estratégica (GTE) e de Tecnologia da Informação (GTI) da Embrapa Monitoramento por Satélite utilizando a linguagem Flex. Essa nova interface é complementar à desenvolvida e apresentada em Carvalho (2009). Flex é uma linguagem de programação baseada em Flash para a criação de aplicações web do tipo Internet Rica (da sigla em inglês RIA ? Rich Internet Application), que têm características e funcionalidades de softwares tradicionais do tipo aplicativo.

In a recent seminal paper, Gibson and Wexler (1993) take important steps to formalizing the notion of language learning in a (finite) space whose grammars are characterized by a finite number of parameters. They introduce the Triggering Learning Algorithm (TLA) and show that even in finite space convergence may be a problem due to local maxima. In this paper we explicitly formalize learning in finite parameter space as a Markov structure whose states are parameter settings. We show that this captures the dynamics of TLA completely and allows us to explicitly compute the rates of convergence for TLA and other variants of TLA e.g. random walk. Also included in the paper are a corrected version of GW's central convergence proof, a list of "problem states" in addition to local maxima, and batch and PAC-style learning bounds for the model.

This thesis describes a system that synthesizes regularity exposing attributes from large protein databases. After processing primary and secondary structure data, this system discovers an amino acid representation that captures what are thought to be the three most important amino acid characteristics (size, charge, and hydrophobicity) for tertiary structure prediction. A neural network trained using this 16 bit representation achieves a performance accuracy on the secondary structure prediction problem that is comparable to the one achieved by a neural network trained using the standard 24 bit amino acid representation. In addition, the thesis describes bounds on secondary structure prediction accuracy, derived using an optimal learning algorithm and the probably approximately correct (PAC) model.

The T2K experiment observes indications of ν(μ) → ν(e) appearance in data accumulated with 1.43×10(20) protons on target. Six events pass all selection criteria at the far detector. In a three-flavor neutrino oscillation scenario with |Δm(23)(2)| = 2.4×10(-3)  eV(2), sin(2)2θ(23) = 1 and sin(2)2θ(13) = 0, the expected number of such events is 1.5±0.3(syst). Under this hypothesis, the probability to observe six or more candidate events is 7×10(-3), equivalent to 2.5σ significance. At 90% C.L., the data are consistent with 0.03(0.04) < sin(2)2θ(13) < 0.28(0.34) for δ(CP) = 0 and a normal (inverted) hierarchy.

We recently developed an approach for testing the accuracy of network inference algorithms by applying them to biologically realistic simulations with known network topology. Here, we seek to determine the degree to which the network topology and data sampling regime influence the ability of our Bayesian network inference algorithm, NETWORKINFERENCE, to recover gene regulatory networks. NETWORKINFERENCE performed well at recovering feedback loops and multiple targets of a regulator with small amounts of data, but required more data to recover multiple regulators of a gene. When collecting the same number of data samples at different intervals from the system, the best recovery was produced by sampling intervals long enough such that sampling covered propagation of regulation through the network but not so long such that intervals missed internal dynamics. These results further elucidate the possibilities and limitations of network inference based on biological data.

El presente estudio tiene el objetivo de ofrecer una visión general sobre los Modelos de Desarrollo y Organización Territorial desde la perspectiva de las relaciones entre el medio urbano, “rururbano” y rural, en España. Para ello, tras conocer y valorar los enfoque conceptuales y temáticos, se estudia el crecimiento urbano en nuestro país en las últimas décadas, analizando de manera pormenorizada la importancia que ha cobrado y cobra la aplicación legislativa de leyes, planes y normas, tanto en el propio crecimiento urbano como en la demanda de viviendas en las ciudades españolas y, de igual modo, la vinculación de ambas con el precio de las viviendas, relacionándolo con la problemática de la “rururbanización”, y del medio rural.

Measures of prevention and control against polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) focus on an official food control, a code of best practice to reduce PAHs levels by controlling industry and in the development of a chemopreventive strategy. Regulation (EU) 835/2011 establishes maximum levels of PAHs for each food group. In addition, Regulations (EU) 333/2007 and 836/2011 set up the methods of sampling and analysis for its official control. Scientific studies prove that the chemopreventive strategy is effective against these genotoxic compounds effects. Most chemopreventive compounds studied with proven protective effects against PAHs are found in fruit and vegetables.

A critical role for the conserved -integrin cytoplasmic motif, KVGFFKR, is recognized in the regulation of activation of the platelet integrin IIb3. To understand the molecular mechanisms of this regulation, we sought to determine the nature of the protein interactions with this cytoplasmic motif. We used a tagged synthetic peptide, biotin-KVGFFKR, to probe a high density protein expression array (37,200 recombinant human proteins) for high affinity interactions. A number of potential integrin-binding proteins were identified. One such protein, a chloride channel regulatory protein, ICln, was characterized further because its affinity for the integrin peptide was highest as was its expression in platelets. We verified the presence of ICln in human platelets by PCR, Western blots, immunohistochemistry, and its co-association with IIb3 by surface plasmon resonance. The affinity of this interaction was 82.2 ± 24.4 nM in a cell free assay. ICln co-immunoprecipitates with IIb3 in platelet lysates demonstrating that this interaction is physiologically relevant. Furthermore, immobilized KVGFFKR peptides, but not control KAAAAAR peptides, specifically extract ICln from platelet lysates. Acyclovir (100 µM to 5 mM), a pharmacological inhibitor of the ICln chloride channel, specifically inhibits integrin activation (PAC-1 expression) and platelet aggregation without affecting CD62 P expression confirming a specific role for ICln in integrin activation. In parallel, a cell-permeable peptide corresponding to the potential integrin-recognition domain on ICln (AKFEEE, 10–100 µM) also inhibits platelet function. Thus, we have identified, verified, and characterized a novel functional interaction between the platelet integrin and ICln, in the platelet membrane.

The technical challenges in the design and programming of signal processors for multimedia communication are discussed. The development of terminal equipment to meet such demand presents a significant technical challenge, considering that it is highly desirable that the equipment be cost effective, power efficient, versatile, and extensible for future upgrades. The main challenges in the design and programming of signal processors for multimedia communication are, general-purpose signal processor design, application-specific signal processor design, operating systems and programming support and application programming. The size of FFT is programmable so that it can be used for various OFDM-based communication systems, such as digital audio broadcasting (DAB), digital video broadcasting-terrestrial (DVB-T) and digital video broadcasting-handheld (DVB-H). The clustered architecture design and distributed ping-pong register files in the PAC DSP raise new challenges of code generation.

The aim of this research is to compare the adsorption capacity of different types of activated carbons produced by steam activation in small laboratory scale and large industrial scale processes. Equilibrium behaviour of the activated carbons was investigated by performing batch adsorption experiments using bottle-point method. Basic dyes (methylene blue (MB), basic red (BR) and basic yellow (BY)) were used as adsorbates and the maximum adsorptive capacity was determined. Adsorption isotherm models, Langmuir, Freundlich and Redlich-Peterson were used to simulate the equilibrium data at different experimental parameters (pH and adsorbent particle size). It was found that PAC2 (activated carbon produced from New Zealand coal using steam activation) has the highest adsorptive capacity towards MB dye (588 mg/g) followed by F400 (476 mg/g) and PAC 1 (380 mg/g). BR and BY showed higher adsorptive affinity towards PAC2 and F400 than MB. Under comparable conditions, adsorption capacity of basic dyes, MB, BR and BY onto PAC 1, PAC2 and F400 increased in the order: MB <BR <BY. Redlich-Peterson model was found to describe the experimental data over the entire range of concentration under investigation.
