This paper analyzes patterns of political mobility of a specific social stratum - immigrants and their descendants - in the western region of São Paulo, where coffee economy prevailed since the last quarter of the XIXth century. We investigate the main agents of local politics in seven cities: from the traditional oligarchic regime characteristic of the Old Republic to the processes of political transformation in the thirties that resulted in the post-war re-democratization, when a recomposition of local political elites takes place.

Temperature is certainly one of the major factors that affect biochemical and physiological processes. So, the investigation of how animals regulate body temperature (Tb) and respond to changes in ambient temperature is indispensable. There are five thermal states defined up to date that include euthermy, hypo and hyperthermia (forced fall and increase of Tb, respectively), fever and anapyrexia (regulated increase and fall of Tb, respectively). In this review, we present some classic and recent data about thermoregulatory mechanisms involved in those thermal states with special attention directed to anapyrexia, a phenomenon that has attracted the interest of researchers due to its potential therapeutic benefits.

A noção de esquema corporal na filosofia de Merleau-Ponty: análises em torno da 'Fenomenologia da Percepção'

The Throughout the work of Merleau-Ponty, besides philosophical concepts and images of his thinking, some theoretical-anthropological devices exist that reveal his approximation of human sciences. That is the case of the notion of body schema. Interested in discussing the role the critical development of this concept may have played in the passage from the first phase of his work to the period when the philosopher finds himself able to outline a new ontology, in this paper, we study the presence of the body schema notion in the Phenomenology of perception. We show that, in this book, Merleau-Ponty unsubstantiates the notion under analysis which, from a cognitive core that organizes our bodily experience, turns into the expression of our body parts’ mutual permeability, but also of the body’s permeability towards the world and other people.

Manejo pré-abate de ovelhas de descarte: perdas de peso corporal, qualidade da carne e comportamento animal

The aim of this study was to know the behavior of Santa Inês ewes in different physiological stages during the pre-slaughter management, as well as their body weight loss, blood hematocrit values and meat quality. 21 discard ewes were used, arranged into the following treatments: T1 = ewes which remained in lactation for 60 days with their respective lambs and slaughtered one day after weaning; T2 = ewes which remained in lactation for 60 days with their respective lambs and one more period of approximately 30 days without the lambs and afterwards slaughtered; and T3 = ewes which remained in confinement for 60 days and did not give birth during the year. The weight of ewes after transportation was lower for T1 in comparison with T2. Blood hematocrit values of ewes before and after transportation and after fast in the waiting pen were not different among the treatments, with mean value of 58.50%. We concluded that the quality of meat of discard ewes in different physiological stages is not altered by pre-slaughter management, when correctly performed (avoiding animal stress), concerning meat pH.

The ever more interconnected and competitive markets have contributed to the increase in the number of companies seeking mergers and acquisitions, as they undergo significant cultural dimensions that can influence the success of an organization. This study analyses how the process of change can happen, considering the importance of culture, the complexities of the internal public and the interaction between professionals, with the aid of Public Relations. The analysis is grounded on theoretical principles concerning intercultural communication and the role of the professional as a manager of communicational barriers. It also recommends the application of storytelling as an organizational strategy in order to mediate potentially conflicting changes that could be facilitated with the work of Public Relations

Características morfométricas e rendimento corporal do suruvi Steindachneridion scriptum agrupados por sexo

The body shape, body yields and morphometric ratios is important for species characterization and evaluation of their productive potential. The aim of this study was to determine the morphometric reasons, the body yields and correlations for male and female suruvi, Steindachneridion scriptum. Was analyzed 30 males and 30 females, and length and weight measurements were made. Was calculated carcass yields and morphometric relationships. The design was complete randomized. Data were subjected to analysis of normality; variance and means were compared by t test and Mann Whitney test. The average total weight of males was 1,583.50 +/- 263.79 g, while the total weight of females was 1,606.66 +/- 185.34 g. The total lengths were 53.42 +/- 2.64 cm for males and 53.35 +/- 1.98 cm for females. Average total weight and total lengths was similar between the sexes (P>0.05). Dress out yields of 65.54 +/- 1.36% (males) and 65.71 +/- 1.20% (females) and edible portions of 41.99 +/- 1.66% (males) and 41.93 +/- 2.05% (females) did not differ significantly between the sexes (P>0.05). The percentage of head relative to the total weight was significantly higher in males (17.67 +/- 1.24%) than in females (16.90 +/- 0.85%). The weight of the viscera such as the percentage relative to the total weight was significantly higher in females. The species has no body yields and morphometric characteristics limitations for commercial production.

Imagem corporal e ginastas: pesquisas e publicações no Brasil. -

The present study emerged from discussions of the Grupo de Estudos e Pesquisas Pedagógicos em Ginástica (GEPPEGIN), from UNESP/RC, and had the intention to understand and analyze the existence and discussions on Body Image and Gymnasts in researches and publications over the last decade (2003-2013) in Brazil. Body image refers to the mental representation of the body, structured according to the world. It is known that cultural and social pressures have been imposing an ideal body model and generating consequences as body dissatisfaction. Therefore, this study aims discuss the body image of Artistic and Rhythmic gymnastics' athletes. The choice of these modalities is justified by the fact that they are directly related to body image, especially the issue of the necessity of low body weight, beyond the relationship of complex movements and the need of good body awareness (BERRY; HOWE, 2000; KERR et al., 2006). For the development of this qualitative research, a documentary survey were conducted over the last decade (2003-2013) on Body Image and Gymnasts, focusing on researches of strictosensu postgraduate programs, recognized by CAPES, and scientific papers published in journals indexed in Brazil and classified in Physical Education Qualis. For categorization of information related to the theme, was used the organization by the units of analysis proposed by Laville and Dionne (1999). Based on the studies analyzed, perceive a dissatisfaction with body image to most participants from all studies, being athlete or nonathlete.
