We derive the generalized rate equation for the coupled quantum-dot (QD) system irradiated by a microwave field in the presence of a quantum point contact. It is shown that when a microwave field is tuned in resonance with the energy difference between the ground states of two QD's, the photon-assisted tunneling occurs and, as a result, the coupled QD system may be used as the single qubit. Furthermore, we show that the oscillating current through the detector decays drastically as the dephasing rate increases, indicating clearly the influence of the dephasing effect induced by the quantum point contact used as a detecting device.

Three new absorption bands, appearing around 670, 865 and 980 nm, are observed in BaFCl:Eu2+ phosphors. They are ascribed to F aggregates formed by association of F centers or by trapping of electrons to the primary F-n(+) (n = 2,3,4) centers. The growth curves of F and F-aggregated centers are similar and may be divided into three stages. The photostimulated luminescence (PSL) decays by stimulation into the absorption bands of F centers and of F aggregates are different; the former decay logarithmically and the latter decay hyperbolically. Some non-radiative processes related to F aggregates, such as electron migration, occur accompanying the PSL process, which may reduce the PSL efficiency and sensitivity of the phosphors. Under high concentration the temperature of photovoltaic solar cells is very high. It is well known that the efficiency and performance of photovoltaic solar cells decrease with the increase of temperature. So cooling is indispensable for a concentrator photovoltaic solar cell at high concentration. Usually passive cooling is widely considered in a concentrator system. However, the thermal conduction principle of concentrator solar cells under passive cooling is seldom reported. In this paper, GaInP/GaAs/Ge triple junction solar cells were fabricated using metal organic chemical vapor deposition technique. The thermal conductivity performance of monolithic concentrator GaInP/GaAs/Ge cascade solar cells under 400X concentration with a heat sink were studied by testing the surface and backside temperatures of solar cells. The tested result shows that temperature difference between both sides of the solar cells is about 1K. A theoretical model of the thermal conductivity and thermal resistance of the GaInP/GaAs/Ge triple junction solar cells was built, and the calculation temperature difference between both sides of the solar cells is about 0.724K which is consistent with the result of practical test. Combining the theoretical model and the practical testing with the upper surface temperature of tested 310K, the temperature distribution of the solar cells was researched.

A novel design approach to ultra-narrow transmission-band fiber Bragg grating (FBG) is proposed and demonstrated for the first time. The new grating consists of multiple identical distributed-Bragg reflector (DBR) cavities and a it-phase-shifted gap, and hence, the proposed laser is constructed by the cascade of these identical DBR fiber lasers. By manufacturing the proposed grating in a piece of Er-Yb codoped fiber, a single-wavelength single-longitudinal-mode (SLM) fiber laser with improved efficiency is demonstrated experimentally. The experimental results show that the pump-to-signal conversion efficiency of the proposed laser is improved by a factor of two in comparison with the optimized distributed-feedback (DFB) fiber lasers. We study the four-wave mixing (FWM) in an opening five-level system with two dressing fields. There are three kinds of doubly dressing mechanisms (parallel cascade, sequential cascade, and nested cascade) in the system for doubly dressed four-wave mixing. These mechanisms reflect different correlations between two dressing fields and different effects of two dressing fields to the FWM. Investigation of these mechanisms is helpful to understand the generated high-order nonlinear optical signal dressed by multi-fields.

Often it is assumed that absorbance decays in photochromic materials with the time dependence of the photochemical kinetics, i.e. exponentially for first order kinetics. Although this may hold in the limiting case of vanishing absorbance, deviations are to be expected for realistic samples, because the local photochemical kinetics slows down with increasing initial absorption and penetration depth of the radiation. We discuss the theory of the kinetics of initially homogeneous photochromic samples and derive analytical solutions. In extension of Tomlinson's theory we find an analytical solution that holds with good approximation even for samples that exhibit a small residual absorption in the saturation limit. The theoretical time dependence of the absorbance originating from photochemical first order kinetics of dye-doped systems is compared with experimental data published by Lafond et al. for fulgides doped in different polymer matrices. We report laser-generated plasmas in atmosphere with electrical spark generated by a synchronization circuit. The breakdown thresholds under the conditions that the electrical spark is used and not used are compared. The breakdown threshold has a distinct decrease after the electrical spark is used. Breakdown thresholds as a function of atmosphere pressure have also been measured at laser wavelengths 532 nm and 1064 rim for the laser pulse width of 15ns. We also discuss the principle and performances of the ionized atmosphere by Nd:YAG laser under the condition of electrical spark introduction. Multiphoton ionization and cascade ionization play important roles in the whole process of atmosphere ionization. The free electron induced by electrical spark can supply the initialization free electron number for multiphoton ionization and cascade ionization. A model for breakdown in atmosphere, which is in good agreement with the experimental results, is described.

根据景观生态学理论,借助地理信息系统工具,采用定量的方法分析工程景观格局状况,通过建立水电开发建设规划方案的景观格局变化评价的指标体系和评价方法,研究水电开发规划方案对区域景观格局的影响。本方法应用于黄河上游黑山峡河段水电开发建设方案析分析。结果表明:不同规划方案实施后对原有生态环境均产生了一定影响。通过对不同方案与研究区域生态现状进行灰色关联分析,红山峡、五佛、小观音和大柳树4个坝址均修建低坝的方案的景观格局指数最高,研究区域景观生态风险最小。最终确定该方案为最优方案,该方案对区域原有生态体系性质和功能影响较小。

Medium energy (5-25 keV) C-13(+) ion implantation into diamond (100) to a fluence ranging from 10(16) cm(-2) to 10(18) cm(-2) was performed for the study of diamond growth via the approach of ion beam implantation. The samples were characterized with Rutherford backscattering/channelling spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, X-ray photoemission spectroscopy and Auger electron spectroscopy. Extended defects are formed in the cascade collision volume during bombardment at high temperatures. Carbon incorporation indeed induces a volume growth but the diamond (100) samples receiving a fluence of 4 x 10(17) to 2 x 10(18) at. cm(-2) (with a dose rate of 5 x 10(15) at. cm(-2) s(-1) at 5 to 25 keV and 800 degrees C) showed no He-ion channelling. Common to these samples is that the top surface layer of a few nanometers has a substantial amount of graphite which can be removed by chemical etching. The rest of the grown layer is polycrystalline diamond with a very high density of extended defects.

A monolithic photoreceiver which consists of a double photodiode (DPD) detector and a regulated cascade(RGC) transimpedance amplifier (TIA) is designed. The small signal circuit model of DPD is given and the band width design method of a monolithic photoreceiver is presented. An important factor which limits the bandwidth of DPD detector and the photoreceiver is presented and analyzed in detail. A monolithic photoreceiver with 1.71GHz bandwidth and 49dB transimpedance gain is designed and simulated by applying a low-cost 0. 6um CMOS process and the test result is given.

The time-resolved photoluminescence and steady photoluminescence (TRPL and PL) spectra on self-assembled InAs/GaAs quantum dots (QDs) are investigated. By depositing GaAs/InAs short period superlattices (SLs), 1. 48 μtm emission is obtained at room temperature. Temperature dependent PL measurements show that the PL intensity of the emission is very steady. It decays only to half as the temperature increases from 15 K to room temperature, while at the same time, the intensity of the other emission decreases by a factor of 5 orders of magnitude. These two emissions are attributed to large-size QDs and short period superlattices (SLs), respectively. Large-size QDs are easier to capture and confine carriers,which benefits the lifetime of PL, and therefore makes the emission intensity insensitive to the temperature.

Two quaternary InAlGaN films were grown by metal-organic chemical-vapor deposition (MOCVD) on sapphire (0001) substrates with and without high-temperature GaN interlayer, respectively. The structural and optical properties of the quaternary films were investigated by high-resolution X-ray diffraction (HRXRD), high-resolution electron microscopy (HREM), temperature-dependent photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy and time-resolved photoluminescence (TRPL) spectroscopy. According to the HRXRD and PL results, it is demonstrated that two samples have the same crystal quality. The TRPL signals of both samples were fitted well as a stretched exponential decay from 14 K to 250 K, indicating significant disorder in the materials, which is attributed to recombination of excitons localized in disorder quantum nanostructures such as quantum dots or quantum disks originating from indium (In) clusters or In composition fluctuation. The cross-section HREM measurement further proves that there exist disorder quantum nanostructures in the quaternary. By investigating the temperature dependence of the dispersive exponent beta, it is shown that the stretched exponential decays of the two samples originate from different mechanisms. Plasma in the air is successfully induced by a free-oscillated Nd:YAG laser pulse with a peak power of 10(2-3) W. The initial free electrons for the cascade breakdown process are from the ablated particles from the surface of a heated coal target, likewise induced by the focused laser beam. The laser field compensates the energy loss of the plasma when the corresponding temperature and the images are investigated by fitting the experimental spectra of B-2 Sigma(+) -> X-2 Sigma(+) band of CN radicals in the plasma with the simulated spectra and a 4-frame CCD camera. The electron density is estimated using a simplified Kramer formula. As this interaction occurs in a gas mixture of hydrogen and oxygen, the formation and development of the plasma are weakened or restrained due to the chaining branch reaction in which the OH radicals are accumulated and the laser energy is consumed. Moreover, this laser ignition will initiate the combustion or explosion process of combustible gas and the minimum ignition energy is measured at different initial pressures. The differences in the experimental results compared to those induced by a nanosecond Q-switched laser pulse with a peak power of 10(6-8) W are also discussed. (C) 2009 Professor T. Nejat Veziroglu. High resolution studies of a0/f0(980) decays into channels involving open strangeness are currently being performed at COSY-Jülich. As a “filter” for isospin-zero intermediate states, i.e. to selectively produce the f0(980) resonance, the dd→αK+K− reaction was measured with the magnetic ANKE spectrometer. In order to determine the luminosity of this experiment, the elastically and quasi-elastically scattered deuterons were recorded simultaneously with the αK+K− events. Here we report about the luminosity determination via investigating the (quasi-) elastic deuterons at ANKE.
