En aquest paper, es presenten els criteris de treball que s'han seguit durant els 10 anys en què s'ha anat constituint el corpus de l'IULA. S'exposa l'estat de les dades del corpus, els recursos lèxics utilitzats per al tractament de les dades (diccionaris i etiquetaris) i les eines constituïdes o adaptades. Es dedica especial atenció a la documentació de la cadena de treball de processament del corpus, des de l'adquisició dels textos en format electrònic fins a la seva incorporació definitiva al corpus.

Aquest memòria presenta un estudi sobre l’aplicació dels algorismes genètics per a lacomposició musical. Es descriu un sistema generador d’un conjunt de melodies i les evoluciona, a través de la iteració de l’algorisme, per a obtenir la millor composició possible, segons unconjunt de normes harmòniques i rítmiques definides arbitràriament.Les regles emprades combinen la modelització de diferents aspectes que la teoria i anàlisimusical occidental contemporani defineix com a essencials per a composar melodies agradables a l’oïda humana. Els trets més importants són melodies amb una certa linealitat, harmonia en lespolifonies i un caràcter rítmic en aquestes composicions.S’ha utilitzat el model d’ Implicació – Realització per a afavorir la linealitat i agradabilitat melòdica, un estudi estadístic de ritme i melodia en peces musicals en format MIDI i la definició per part de l’usuari d’una seqüència d’acords o patró amb el qual les melodies generades hi harmonitzaran.L’algoritme sembla generar satisfactòriament melodies que compleixen amb els aspectesavaluats, i amb la possibilitat de definir diferents seqüències d’acords, el sistema esdevé una eina d’ajuda per a realitzar petites composicions o fragments harmònics d’una manera més automatitzada.

The purpose of this thesis was to investigate how and why an art competition was arranged to select pieces for the parliamentary annexe building in Helsinki. There is an emphasis on the cultural production aspects of the research. For the purpose of comparison, the thesis also examines how art acquisition takes place in the cities of Helsinki, Salo and Vantaa, and how the so-called percentage principle has been used in these cities The research method involved thematic interviewing of four persons with central positions on the competition jury. Questions were also sent by e-mail to experts and other people with knowledge of the subject area. Although art competitions have been arranged in Finland for decades, very little relevant literature exists. In addition to the interviews, other relevant literature was also referred to, including parliamentary records. The crucial questions concerned why the art competition for the parliamentary annexe was arranged and whether, indeed, it is possible to compete artistically in this manner. The thesis also examined the relationship between art and architecture and how the best works were selected from the vast range of submissions. The answers were both honest and interesting. The thesis presents a step-by-step analysis of the competition's progress over two stages, and according to the specific rules for such competitions as laid out in Suomen Taiteilijaseura. Strict adherence to the rules of the competition created a number of problems, some of which are also studied. The primary reason for staging a competition was to be as democratic as possible, and eliminating any possibility of nominating a particular artist or artists to realise their own work within the annexe. The competition opened up the possibility to consider various artistic proposals, and no genres were ruled out in advance. This format ensured a good response and a total of 1719 proposals were received, of which six were eventually selected. One conclusion was that open competition may not be the best way to gather artistic proposals in such circumstances, but it is very democratic.

The thesis studies the launch campaign of Big Brother Finland, especially from the viewpoint of on-air promotion. Interest to the subject arose when participating in the campaign as an on-air promotion planner together with Subtv's marketing director, on-air promotion editor and the channel's advertising agency. The launch of the campaign was a challenge due to the format, since not a lot of information can be revealed before the start of the program. When the planning started, all the material consisted of two logos. The first season of the Finnish version of Big Brother begun on Subtv August 2005. The goal of the program was to become a topic of discussion on TV on the fall 2005 and to raise the profile of the channel. The goal of the launch was to get good ratings for the first episode. The launch campaign was also supposed to open up the format to the viewers and to arouse interest in the show. Secrecy and the size of the program were set to be the marketing tones of the launch. Although partly different messages were told via on-air promotion and external media, the campaign was congruent in visual design. In the study, interviews of Subtv's staff, campaign plans and notes were used as research material. From the aspect of affecting images and emotions, the finished campaign promos and other on-air elements were analyzed. In on-air promotion, all choices in audio and visual design affect the outcome and therefore the images that the viewer constructs. The two promo series were made to affect emotions and to awaken curiosity. Other on-air elements were merely used to present program information. The campaign and the series were accepted with enthusiasm. The launch of the second season was even more massive than the first. Participation in the launch campaign of Big Brother Finland was an essential experience in the development of professional identity. When one has taken part in the creation of a massive campaign from scarce materials, tools are given to future assignments in the field of on-air promotion.

Tots hem sentit a parlar del canvi del Raval en aquests últims anys. Actualment la majoria del jovent no només hi estudia sinó que hi passa la major part del seu tempsd’oci, en bars, restaurants, museus, galeries d’art, comerços...Nosaltres ens hem preguntat: Per què el Raval ha canviat tant? S’han fet molts treballs, molts estudis, s’han intentat trobar les diverses causes que han produït aquest fenòmen.Més específicament ens hem preguntat: Pot ser que degut a la construcció del cluster cultural format pel MACBA i el CCCB, entre d’altres, s’hagi produït aquest canvi?Així doncs, en aquest treball intentarem contestar ambdues preguntes. Intentarem ser precisos, concisos, breus i clars; esperem que us resulti interessant.

This report is a well illustrated and practical Guide intended to aid engineers and engineering technicians in monitoring, maintaining, and protecting bridge waterways so as to mitigate or prevent scour from adversely affecting the structural performance of bridge abutments, piers, and approach road embankments. Described and illustrated here are the scour processes affecting the stability of these components of bridge waterways. Also described and illustrated are methods for monitoring waterways, and the various methods for repairing scour damage and protecting bridge waterways against scour. The Guide focuses on smaller bridges, especially those in Iowa. Scour processes at small bridges are complicated by the close proximity of abutments, piers, and waterway banks, such that scour processes interact in ways difficult to predict and for which reliable design relationships do not exist. Additionally, blockage by woody debris or by ice, along with changes in approach channel alignment, can have greater effects on pier and abutment scour for smaller bridges. These considerations tend to cause greater reliance on monitoring for smaller bridges. The Guide is intended to augment and support, as a source of information, existing procedures for monitoring bridge waterways. It also may prompt some adjustments of existing forms and reports used for bridge monitoring. In accord with increasing emphasis on effective management of public facilities like bridges, the Guide ventures to include an example report format for quantitative risk assessment applied to bridge waterways. Quantitative risk assessment is useful when many bridges have to be evaluated for scour risk and damage, and priorities need to be determined for repair and protection work. Such risk assessment aids comparison of bridges at risk. It is expected that bridge inspectors will implement the Guide as a concise, handy reference available back at the office. The Guide also likely may be implemented as an educational primer for new inspectors who have yet to become acquainted with waterway scour. Additionally, the Guide may be implemented as a part of process to check whether existing bridge-inspection forms or reports adequately encompass bridge-waterway scour.

The sample dimension, types of variables, format used for measurement, and construction of instruments to collect valid and reliable data must be considered during the research process. In the social and health sciences, and more specifically in nursing, data-collection instruments are usually composed of latent variables or variables that cannot be directly observed. Such facts emphasize the importance of deciding how to measure study variables (using an ordinal scale or a Likert or Likert-type scale). Psychometric scales are examples of instruments that are affected by the type of variables that comprise them, which could cause problems with measurement and statistical analysis (parametric tests versus non-parametric tests). Hence, investigators using these variables must rely on suppositions based on simulation studies or recommendations based on scientific evidence in order to make the best decisions.

Una de les qüestions que ens preocupen com a psicòlegs i psicòlogues en l'àmbit penitenciari és saber fer front d’una manera vàlida i efectiva a les diverses situacions de crisi o emergència que es produeixen en aquest medi, encara que sigui puntualment, no per això deixen de ser significatives i a vegades traumàtiques, tant per a les persones preses com per al seu context. Tanmateix, som conscients que els professionals que assisteixen les persones o grups en crisi a la presó no són necessàriament psicòlegs, sinó que sovint són els funcionaris de vigilància o els mateixos membres de la direcció del centre els que han d’assumir aquestes funcions. És com a tècnics especialistes en el comportament i la personalitat humana i en la solució dels problemes relacionals que podem col·laborar i assessorar els responsables en la gestió d’aquests conflictes en procediments i estratègies del tractament més efectius a l’hora de negociar i assolir un equilibri adaptatiu entre les diverses parts que conformen els escenaris en crisi. Un dels objectius que ens plantejarem la comunitat de pràctiques en aquest curs 2009 és identificar les diverses situacions de crisi que es poden produir a la presó i elaborar un conjunt de protocols d’actuació psicològica que orientin el professional (el psicòleg inicialment però també d’altres agents del canvi dels comportaments antisocials) sobre quina és la millor manera d’intervenir-hi. No obstant això, es considera que més enllà de l'elaboració de guies o manuals d’intervenció (al cap i a la fi això es pot consultar en la literatura especialitzada sobre aquest tema), es tractava de ser el més pràctics possible i recollir en un tríptic aquella informació pertinent (allò imprescindible que s’ha de saber per actuar de manera efectiva i quins són els errors que cal evitar encara que només sigui per no complicar encara més les coses) que fos fàcil d’utilitzar per part del professional, és a dir, un recordatori esquematitzat però rigorós del pla d’acció que cal seguir per fer front a la crisi. També es pretén que sigui obert a les experiències i coneixements resolutius de qui intervé en aquestes situacions d’emergència i que permeti el feedback amb el grup de la comunitat de pràctiques, qui ho validaria, per tal d’anar incrementat progressivament la validesa i fiabilitat de l'instrument. Aquest curs presentem dos protocols/tríptics d’actuació: 1) notificació de males noticies/acompanyament en el dol; 2) intervenció en el risc de suïcidi o en conductes de autòlisi. La idea és elaborar-ne més en pròximes edicions. A més a més, com a protocol en format audiovisual, es presenta un curtmetratge on es desenvolupa una actuació psicològica per tal de desactivar una conducta violenta/ amenaçant.

Family Caregiver Support Program (Title III-E) - The Administration on Aging (AoA) has determined that for Title III-E, the actual family caregiver is the client, not the older person receiving the services. Iowa NAPIS (National Aging Program Information System) collects and reports Title III-E service/performance data and related program management information to the federal and state government in a format like the other Title III services. The major shift in reporting relates to who is the client. As a result, this Title III-E Client/Service Unit Report shows the number of caregivers who receive services and the number of units by service category from the Title III-E funding of the Older Americans Act, the AoA, and limited state general fund dollars. Additionally, it shows the number of persons served by individual services and total "unduplicated" client count across all services. In other words, if you add the total number of clients (caregivers) from all services, it is higher than the actual number of persons served across all services because some people need and receive more than one service. Com a crescente competitividade no mundo empresarial, os preços dos produtos passaram a exercer um papel fundamental na expansão e sobrevivência das empresas. Consequentemente, hoje em dia é o mercado que determina o preço de venda de um produto, devendo a empresa produzir ao menor custo possível para garantir o retorno financeiro desejado. O objectivo do trabalho é verificar se os procedimentos de Target Costing podem ser aplicados nas Pequenas e Médias Empresas industriais, em São Vicente, cuja actividade também se destina à produção de produtos alimentícios. Como produto teste foi selecionado o produto A, confecçionado pela empresa Alvo, SA. Para atingirmos os objectivos foram utilizadas várias técnicas e métodos de pesquisa, tais como: levantamento bibliográfico, entrevista, conversas informais, questionário, levantamento de dados nos documentos financeiros da empresa ALVO, SA. Para entendermos e aplicarmos o processo de Target Costing recorreu-se à literatura do mesmo. Foi aplicado um questionário para ver a percepção dos clientes da empresa objecto de estudo, quanto ao preço que considerariam ideal pagar por cada quilograma do produto A adquirida. A entrevista realizada com o director geral da ALVO, SA acompanhada com os dados obtidos do departamento de contabilidade serviram como um meio de conhecer a empresa e o seu funcionamento, realçando informações sobre a fixação do preço venda dos seus produtos, a gestão de custos, entre outros. Antes de testar, através de um caso prático, a aplicação do Target Costing, verificou-se, primeiramente, sua aplicação em termos teóricos, testando os seus princípios e premissas para o produto A, na Empresa ALVO, SA. Como resultado constactou-se que os procedimentos de Target Costing podem ser aplicados, tanto na teoria como na prática, nas Pequenas e Médias Empresas industriais, em São Vicente, cuja actividade se destina a produção do produto A. With the increasing competition in the business world, the prices of products have come to play a key role in the expansion and survival of businesses. Consequently, today the selling price of a product is determined by the market so companies should produce at the lowest possible cost to ensure the desired financial return. The purpose of this paper work is to verify if the Target Costing’s procedure can be applied in small and medium business enterprises in São Vicente, whose activity is production of food. For that, product A was selected for tests. In order to achieve these objectives, some techniques and research methods like bibliographic analysis, interviews, informal conversations, questionnaires and analysis of the financial documents of ALVO, SA that is the subject of this case study, were utilized. With the intention of understanding and applying the Target Costing process we also resorted to a detailed reading of related bibliography. A questionnaire was applied in order to know the customers’ opinions about the ideal price for each kilogram of product A. The interview with the managing director of ALVO, SA, combined with the data obtained in the accounting department, was also used as a way to know the company, and it ’s functioning, highlight ing items such as: selling price format ion, cost management, among other aspects. Before testing, through a practical case study, the use of the Target Costing, the theoretical application was firstly verified by testing its principles and assumptions. Secondly, the application of the Target Costing’s process was shown step by step concerning product A at ALVO SA company. As a result we came to the conclusion that procedures used with Target Costing can be applied, in theory and in practice, in small or medium-sized industrial enterprises, in São Vicente, where product A is being manufactured.
