A specific and sensitive high-performance liquid chromatographic procedure was developed for the assay of sparfloxacin in raw material and tablets. It was also found that the excipients in the commercial tablet preparation did not interfere with the assay. The method validation yielded good results and included the range, linearity, precision, accuracy, specificity and recovery. This method can also be applied to stability studies. In this work we present high resolution Doppler limited absorption spectra measurements of the C-O stretching mode of (CH3OH)-C-13, obtained from diode laser spectroscopy, and the Fourier Transform spectrum obtained at 0. 12 cm-1 resolution. By using these data and previously known spectroscopic information, we determined the frequency and the J quantum number for the multiplets of the P and R(J) branches of the C-O stretching fundamental band. Infrared transitions in coincidence with emission lines of the regular CO2 laser and some of its isotope parents are pointed out.

The Schrodinger equation with the truncated Coulomb potential is solved using the supersymmetric quantum mechanics formalism, with and without the cutoff in the angular momentum potential. We obtain some analytical eigenfunctions and eigenvalues for particular values of the cutoff parameter.

This work aims to analyse the faunistic composition of ''Ilha Comprida, SP, Brasil, in relation to semiterrestrial crabs. The collects were done during one year. The animals were handy sampled, and the colleting area comprised from Cananeia proximities to Icapara bar, towards north, including beaches, sand banks and mangroves. After each sample the animals were identified. The results obtained were similar those presented for other estuarine regions in São Paulo north coast. With reference to the species from Parana coast, we have got 2 species more. The crabs recorded are distributed in 3 Decapod families: Grapsidae, Ocypodidae and Xanthidae.

We consider a gauge model based on a SU(3)XU(1) symmetry in which the lepton number is violated explicitly by charged scalar and gauge bosons, including a vector field with double electric

We compared the serological phenotypic frequencies of ABO, MNSs, and Duffy in 417 blood donors and 309 malaria patients from four Brazilian Amazon areas. Our results suggest no correlation between ABO phenotype and malaria infection in all areas studied. We observed significant correlation between the S + s +, S + s-, and S - s + phenotypes and malaria infection in three areas. Some of the Duffy phenotypes showed significant correlation between donors and malaria patients in different areas. These data are an additional contribution to the establishment of differential host susceptibility to malaria.

Objective: The aim was to compare there ulcer classification systems as predictors of the outcome of diabetic foot ulcers; the Wagner, the University of Texas (UT) and the size (area, depth), sepsis, arteriopathy, denervation system (S(AD)SAD) systems in specialist clinic in Brazil. Methods: Ulcer area, depth, appearance, infection and associated ischaemia and neuropathy were recorded in a consecutive series of 94 subjects. A novel score, the S(AD)SAD score, was derived from the sum of individual items of the S(AD)SAD system, and was evaluated. Follow-up was for at least 6 months. The primary outcome measure was the incidence of healing. Results: Mean age was 57.6 years; 57 (60.6%) were made. Forty-eight ulcers (51.1%) healed without surgery; 11 (12.2%) subjects underwent minor amputation. Significant differences in terms of healing were observed for depth (P = 0.002), infection (P = 0.006) and denervation (P = 0.002) using the S(AD)SAD system, for UT grade (P = 0.002) and stage (P = 0.032) and for Wagner grades (P = 0.002). Ulcers with an S(AD)SAD score of <= 9 (total possible 15) were 7.6 times more likely to heal than scores >= 10 (P < 0.001).Conclusions: All three systems predicted ulcer outcome. The S(AD)SAD score of ulcer severity could represent a useful addition to routine clinical practice. The association between outcome and ulcer depth confirms earlier reports. The association with infection was stronger than that reported from the centres in Europe or North America. The very strong association with neuropathy has only previously been observed in Tanzania. Studies designed to compare the outcome in different countries should adopt systems of classification, which are valid for the populations studied.

Some derivatives of 2-mercaptobenzoxazole (HL) of the type MRnL [M = Hg or Tl, R = Me or Ph and n = 1 (Hg) or 2 (Tl)] have been prepared. The structure of HgMeL has been determined by an X-ray diffraction study; in the crystal there are two independent planar molecules in each asymmetric unit, with the ligand in its thiolic form and an almost linear CHgS linkage. Weak intramolecular and intermolecular secondary interactions complement the mercurysulphur bond. The spectroscopic (IR, Raman, mass, 13C-NMR), conductimetric, and dipolar properties of this and the other compounds are discussed. © 1991.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the effects of afterload on peak rate of tension rise (dT/dt) in the isolated muscle. METHODS: Left ventricular papillary muscles from Wistar rats were studied in isometric and isotonic afterloaded contractions. Muscles were analised in Krebs-Henseleit solution with calcium concentration of 2.52mM at 28 degrees C. The resting muscle length (preload) was maintained constant. The peak isometric developed tension (DT) and dT/dt were measured during increases of afterload (25, 50, 75 and 100% from DT). RESULTS: A rise in afterload corresponding to 50, 75 and 100% of DT, did not cause an increase in dT/dt values (p > 0.05). The dT/dt value decreased (p < 0.05) when afterload was changed from 75% to 25% of DT. CONCLUSION: The data suggest that an increase in the afterload from 50% of the DT did not promote changes in the dT/dt.

The selection and use of hard chairside reline resins must be made with regard to dimensional stability, which will influence the accuracy of fit of the denture base. This study compared the dimensional change of two hard chairside reline resins (Duraliner II and Kooliner) and one heat-curing denture base resin (Lucitone 550). A stainless steel mold with reference dimensions (AB, CD) was used to obtain the samples. The materials were processed according to the manufacturer's recommendations. Measurements of the dimensions were made after processing and after the samples had been stored in distilled water at 37° C for eight different periods of time. The data were recorded and then analyzed with analysis of variance. All materials showed shrinkage immediately after processing (p < 0.05). The only resin that exhibited shrinkage after 60 days of storage in water was Duraliner II; these changes could be clinically significant in regard of tissue fit.

The author suggests a long-distance teaching on toxinology using the following media: conventional printed book, scientific electronic journal, video library and the Internet. These new media are discussed as new alternatives for long-distance learning without the teacher.
