Regional Guidelines for the Search of Patients, their Belongings and the Environment of Care within Adult Mental Health and Learning Disability Inpatient Settings

The overarching purpose of these guidelines is to ensure the safety and promote the protection of patients, staff and visitors by ensuring that dangerous items or hazardous substances are not brought into the in-patient setting, including illicit substances, prescribed / over the counter medications, dangerous items and alcohol or any other hazardous or potentially hazardous item or substance.

Evolució i reptes de l'educació virtual : construint l'e-learning del segle XXI

Les autores i autors d'aquest llibre ofereixen una descripció de l'evolució general de l'e-learning apuntant els elements clau cap als que ha d'anar evolucionant. Parteixen de l'experiència i la pràctica contrastada amb les investigacions sobre el tema. Al llarg dels diferents capítols ens mostren com viu un estudiant virtual, el seu paper i la manera com planteja i organitza les seves activitats; ens acosten al professorat analitzant el seu rol en el disseny de la formació i la comunicació amb els estudiants; parlen de la col·laboració, analitzant com dissenyar activitats col·laboratives i assenyalant els seus avantatges i límits; descriuen els diferents recursos d'aprenentatge que podem disposar en el disseny dels cursos i, finalment, acompanyen la nostra mirada cap al futur pròxim analitzant les tendències i els reptes als que hem de fer front per construir l'e-learning del segle XXI.

Bibliotecas y centros de documentación en un entorno virtual

Les Biblioteques i Centres de Documentació han exercit sempre un paper important en el desenvolupament de l'aprenentatge, de la docència i de la investigació, però el canvi que s'ha experimentat i s'està experimentant en el camp docent en aquests últims anys, ha potenciat molt més la funció d'aquest tipus de centres, convertint-los en eixos bàsics del sistema educatiu, passant a formar part, en molts casos, del model dissenyat per exercir la funció educativa i investigadora a través d'un entorn virtual.

Virtual Library Services for a Virtual University : User-Oriented Virtual Sites in an Open Library

La llegada de las tecnologías de la información, y su uso cada vez mayor y generalizado que se está haciendo de ellas, ha permitido para que una nueva situación aparezca que, a su vez, ha originado - de hecho, que ha precipitado - una serie de cambios de gran importancia en todos los niveles, pero especialmente en los niveles sociales, económicos y culturales. Este nueva escena ha tenido una gran influencia en el entorno pedagógico. De hecho, la aparición de nuevos modelos educativos como resultado de este cambio ha estado sucediendo de una manera continuada e ininterrumpida durante la década pasada. Estos cambios recientes en los sistemas actuales de enseñanza y de aprendizaje han significado un aumento y un cambio en el tipo de demandas hechas desde las bibliotecas y los centros de documentación.

L'aparició i l'ús creixent i cada vegada més generalitzat de les tecnologies de la informació ha fet possible l'aparició d'un nou escenari que ha originat i fins i tot precipitat, una sèrie de canvis de gran abast en tots els nivells, especialment a nivell social, econòmic i cultural. Aquest nou escenari ha influït en gran manera en l'entorn pedagògic; l'aparició de nous models educatius, propiciats per aquest important canvi, s'ha anat succeint de forma continuada i ininterrompuda des de fa amb prou feines una dècada. Aquests nous models educatius han fet possible que sectors de la població que no podien accedir a cert tipus d'estudis, per circumstàncies d'índole diversa, es veiessin afavorits per un nou entorn, que no solament els facilitava l'accés a tot tipus d'ensenyaments, sinó que creava espais i eines cada vegada més fàcils d'usar perquè aquesta nova possibilitat no aparegués com una barrera tecnològica que els tanqués de nou l'accés.

La formación de usuarios en una biblioteca virtual universitaria

En un context d'educació a distància i amb usuaris virtuals, la formació en l'ús dels serveis i recursos d'una biblioteca universitària requereix d'una adaptació de les formes tradicionalment ofertes des de les Biblioteques presencials al nou entorn amb mètodes nous i innovadors. En aquest sentit, la Biblioteca de l'UOC ha desenvolupat noves vies de comunicació i nous formats per poder difondre serveis i per formar els nostres usuaris en l'ús d'aquests. La característica comuna de la majoria d'ells, és la de ser 'formació a distància' que es du a terme a través d'un 'Campus virtual'. Les diferents opcions seran analitzades en la comunicació així com les problemàtiques i avantatges que presenten els diversos mètodes de formació duts a terme per les biblioteques universitàries en entorns virtuals.

What should a virtual University Library environment look like?

Over the past year, the Open University of Catalonia library has been designing its new website with this question in mind. Our main concern has been how to integrate the library in the student day to day study routine to not to be only a satellite tool. We present the design of the website that, in a virtual library like ours, it is not only a website but the whole library itself. The central point of the web is my library, a space that associates the library resources with the student's curriculum and their course subjects. There the students can save the resources as favourites, comment or share them. They have also access to all the services the library offers them. The resources are imported from multiple tools such as Millennium, SFX, Metalib and Dspace to the Drupal CMS. Then the resources' metadata can be enriched with other contextual information from other sources, for example the course subjects. And finally they can be exported in standard, open data formats making them available for linked data applications.

A teaching/learning support tool for introductory programming courses

In This work we present a Web-based tool developed with the aim of reinforcing teaching and learning of introductory programming courses. This tool provides support for teaching and learning. From the teacher's perspective the system introduces important gains with respect to the classical teaching methodology. It reinforces lecture and laboratory sessions, makes it possible to give personalized attention to the student, assesses the degree of participation of the students and most importantly, performs a continuous assessment of the student's progress. From the student's perspective it provides a learning framework, consisting in a help environment and a correction environment, which facilitates their personal work. With this tool students are more motivated to do programming

Avaluació de 4 experiències d’e‐learning: formació continuada virtual en el camp de la farmacologia clínica.

Introducció: Les noves tecnologies han donat peu a la creació de propostes docents que es desenvolupen a través d’internet . Objectius: Avaluar quatre cursos de formació virtual realitzats a la Fundació Institut Català de Farmacologia per analitzat-ne l’activitat i la qualitat. Metodologia: S’ha mesurat el registre de participació dels alumnes mitjançant l’accés als materials i activitats proposades, i la qualitat de la formació mitjançant una enquesta de satisfacció. Resultats: La proporció de realització d’activitats ha estat notable i la qualitat dels cursos ben valorada. Conclusió: La bona valoració rebuda mostra la qualitat dels cursos realitzats i avala les nostres propostes pedagògiques.

A distributed environment for virtual and/or real experiments for underwater robots

This paper presents the distributed environment for virtual and/or real experiments for underwater robots (DEVRE). This environment is composed of a set of processes running on a local area network composed of three sites: 1) the onboard AUV computer; 2) a surface computer used as human-machine interface (HMI); and 3) a computer used for simulating the vehicle dynamics and representing the virtual world. The HMI can be transparently linked to the real sensors and actuators dealing with a real mission. It can also be linked with virtual sensors and virtual actuators, dealing with a virtual mission. The aim of DEVRE is to assist engineers during the software development and testing in the lab prior to real experiments

Research librarians in a virtual environment : new skills, new services

This paper highlights both the new functions taken on by UOC research librarians and the new skills that this professional profile requires, based on the experience of the UOC Virtual Library. By setting up a series of bibliometric units, the Library has been able to integrate itself into the University through bibliometric studies and other research support services. A group of research librarians provides support to researchers from the start of the research process to the assessment of their scientific output. They also provide support for the University's strategic decision-making through the analysis of bibliometric data.

Curriculum sequencing for an e-learning system based on learning styles

This work shows the use of adaptation techniques involved in an e-learning system that considers students' learning styles and students' knowledge states. The mentioned e-learning system is built on a multiagent framework designed to examine opportunities to improve the teaching and to motivate the students to learn what they want in a user-friendly and assisted environment

Searching for and positioning of contextualized learning objects

Learning object economies are marketplaces for the sharing and reuse of learning objects (LO). There are many motivations for stimulating the development of the LO economy. The main reason is the possibility of providing the right content, at the right time, to the right learner according to adequate quality standards in the context of a lifelong learning process; in fact, this is also the main objective of education. However, some barriers to the development of a LO economy, such as the granularity and editability of LO, must be overcome. Furthermore, some enablers, such as learning design generation and standards usage, must be promoted in order to enhance LO economy. For this article, we introduced the integration of distributed learning object repositories (DLOR) as sources of LO that could be placed in adaptive learning designs to assist teachers’ design work. Two main issues presented as a result: how to access distributed LO, and where to place the LO in the learning design. To address these issues, we introduced two processes: LORSE, a distributed LO searching process, and LOOK, a micro context-based positioning process, respectively. Using these processes, the teachers were able to reuse LO from different sources to semi-automatically generate an adaptive learning design without leaving their virtual environment. A layered evaluation yielded good results for the process of placing learning objects from controlled learning object repositories into a learning design, and permitting educators to define different open issues that must be covered when they use uncontrolled learning object repositories for this purpose. La percepció per part de l’alumnat del caràcter motivador d’un entorn virtual en l’aprenentatge d’una llengua estrangera

Aquest treball presenta una proposta d’investigació mitjançant la qual es pretendràanalitzar com percep l’aprenent la incidència de l’ús de les eines comunicatives de l’entornvirtual en la motivació envers l’aprenentatge d’una llengua estrangera. L’objectiu delprojecte d’investigació serà indagar com l’alumnat es relaciona amb l’ús d’eines decomunicació de l’entorn virtual com a recurs en l’aprenentatge de l’anglès i com percep elgrau en que aquestes estimulen el seu interès en adquirir la llengua.Aquesta indagació es durà a terme mitjançant una investigació bàsicament qualitativa. Elsresultats seran extrets a partir de dos grups de subjectes, que expressaran la seva pròpiapercepció del caràcter motivador de les eines de comunicació de l’entorn virtual. A partirde l’anàlisi i comparació dels resultats, s’inferirà quins estímuls resulten incitadors per al’estudiant, i si aquests estan relacionats amb les eines comunicatives de l’entorn virtual; o,al contrari, si en són independents.
