Rare earth metal complexes bearing thiophene-amido ligand: Synthesis and structural characterization
Resumo:
2,6-Diisopropyl-N-(2-thienylmethyl) aniline ( H2L) has been prepared, which reacted with equimolar rare earth metal tris( alkyl)s, Ln( CH2SiMe3)(3)( THF)(2), afforded rare earth metal mono( alkyl) complexes, LLn(CH2SiMe3)(THF)(3) ( 1: Ln = Lu; 2: Ln = Y). In this process, H2L was deprotonated by one metal alkyl species followed by intramolecular C-H activation of the thiophene ring to generate dianionic species L2- with the release of two tetramethylsilane. The resulting L2- combined with three THF molecules and an alkyl unit coordinates to Y3+ and Lu3+ ions, respectively, in a rare N,C-bidentate mode, to generate distorted octahedron geometry ligand core. Whereas, with treatment of H2L with equimolar Sc(CH2SiMe3)(3)( THF)(2), a heteroleptic complex ( HL)( L) Sc( THF) ( 3) was isolated as the main product, where the dianionic L2- species bonds to Sc3+ via chelating N, C atoms whilst the monoanionic HL connects to Sc3+ in an S,N-bidentate mode. All complexes 1-3 have been characterized by NMR spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction analysis.

Efficient synthetic procedures for the preparation of beta-trithiophenes (dithieno[2,3-b:3',2'-d]thiophene) and two macrocyclic compounds, tetra[2,3-thienylene] and hexa[2,3-thienylene] bearing trimethylsilyl (TMS) groups from 2,2'-dibromo-5,5'-bistrimethylsilanyl[3,3']bithiophenyl are reported. The UV-Vis spectra property and crystal structures of these macrocyclic oligothiophenes are described.

The multilayer Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films of pr,ly 3-(2-(5-chlorobenzotriazole)ethyl) thiophene (PCBET) blended with amphibious arachidic acid (AA) were prepared and characterized. The photoluminescence intensity of the blend film was enhanced as the AA increased by a certain amount. The PCBET excimers were not formed in the blend LB films.

The electrochemical reactions of cytochrome c were studied at a thiophene-modified gold electrode. It was demonstrated that thiophene is an effective promoter, although there is only one functional group in the molecule. Based on this result, the mechanis

Two series of sulfided Ni or Co promoted Mo/alumina catalysts, having different Ni or Co loadings, were characterized by their activities for the transformation of cyclopentanone into cyclopentanethiol (flow reactor, 220 degrees C, atmospheric pressure) and for the hydrodesulfurization of dibenzothiophene (flow reactor, 340 degrees C, 3 MPa hydrogen pressure). The addition of the promoter increased significantly the activity of the Mo/alumina catalyst for both reactions, up to a maximum obtained with the catalysts having a (promoter)/(promoter+Mo) molar ratio equal to 0.3-0.4. This increase in activity was due in part to an increase in the hydrogenating properties of the Mo/alumina catalyst. However, an additional modification of the catalyst (basic and nucleophilic properties) must be considered to account for the spectacular effect of the promoter on the rate of the dibenzothiophene direct desulfurization reaction. The desulfurization of thiophene on Raney Ni and rapidly quenched skeletal Ni (RQ Ni) has been studied in ultrahigh vacuum (UHV) by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The Raney Ni or RQ Ni can be approximated as a hydrogen-preadsorbed polycrystalline Ni-alumina composite. It is found that thiophene molecularly adsorbs on Raney Ni or RQ Ni at 103 K. At 173 K, thiophene on alumina is desorbed, while thiophene in direct contact with the metallic Ni in Raney Ni undergoes C-S bond scission, leading to carbonaceous species most probably in the metallocycle-like configuration and atomic sulfur. On RQ Ni, the temperature for thiophene dissociation is about 100 K higher than that on Raney Ni. The lower reactivity of RQ Ni toward thiophene is tentatively attributed to lattice expansion of Ni crystallites in RQ Ni due to rapid quenching. The existence of alumina and hydrogen may block the further cracking of the metallocycle-like species on Raney Ni and RQ Ni at higher temperatures, which has been the dominant reaction pathway on Ni single crystals. By 473 K, the C Is peak has disappeared, leaving nickel sulfide on the surface.

Substituted chiral thiophene 1-oxides and their cycloadducts of variable enantiopurity have been isolated as products of dioxygenase-catalysed sulfoxidation of the corresponding thiophenes using intact cells of Pseudomonas putida; thermal racemization (Delta G(double dagger) = 25.1 kcal mol(-1)) of the enantiopure metabolite (1R)-2-methylbenzo[b]thiophene 1-oxide has been observed.
