Ion-molecule reactions of four isomeric cyclopropane derivatives were investigated under chemical ionization(CI) conditions, using methane, acetone and vinyl acetate as reagent gases, The methane positive-ion CI mass spectra of each of two isomer pairs 1,2 and 3,4 are identical, and so are the collision-induced dissociation (CTD) spectra of the protonated molecules of each of the two isomer pairs, The protonation reactions for the isomer pairs 1,2 and 3,4 occurred on the sites of the carboxyl groups and the R groups, respectively, Differences between isomers 1 and 2 are observed in their acetone (A) positive-ion CI mass spectra and in the CID spectra of their adduct ions ([M+H+A](+)), The adduct ions of compounds 2, 3 and 4 with protonated acetone and with protonated acetone dimer are observed in their CI mass spectra, However, only the adduct ions of compound 1 with protonated acetone appear in its CI mass spectrum, The protonated dimers of each of the four compounds are found in their vinyl acetate positive-ion CI mass spectra, and the CID spectra of these dimers for isomers 1 and 2 can also reflect their stereostructural difference. A series of novel aromatic diamines (1-3) containing kinked cyclohexylidene moieties was synthesized by a reaction of excess aniline and corresponding methyl-substituted cyclohexanone derivatives. The structures of (1-3) were identifield by H-1 NMR, C-13 NMR, and FT-IR. The polymers were synthesized from the obtained diamines and various aromatic dianhydrides by the conventional polycondensation reaction followed by chemical imidization as well as high-temperature one-step polymerization. The inherent viscosities and weight-average molecular weights of the resulting polyimides were in the ranges of 0.55-1.58 dL/g and (7.4-15.2) x 10(4) g/mol, respectively. The prepared polyimides showed excellent thermal stabilities and good solubility. All polymers were readily soluble in common organic solvents such as tetrahydrofuran, chloroform, tetrachloroethane, etc., and the glass transition temperatures were observed at 290-372 degrees C.

The ansa-zirconocene derivative tetramethyldisiloxandiyl bis(1-indenyl) zirconium dichloride (1) has been prepared by the reaction of the dilithium salt of 1,3-bis(l-indenyl) tetramethyldisiloxane with ZrCl4 . 2THF, After catalytic hydrogenation, the corresponding tetrahydroindenyl complex (2) has been formed. Both 1 and 2 have been shown by H-1 NMR spectra to be the mixture of the cis(meso) and trans(rac) isomers, The pure trans isomers 1(l), 2(l) and cis isomer 2(c) were obtained by recrystallization, The crystal structures of 1(l) and 2(c) were determined by X-ray diffraction. Both crystals of 1(l) and 2(c) are monoclinics, belonging to space groups P2(1)/n(1(l)) and P2(1)/c(2(c)). In the unit cell of 2(c), one of the six-membered rings of the tetrahydroindenyl Ligands has two different conformations which have the same probabilities.

Polyaminopolycarboxylate gadolinium (III) complexes have been studied intensively in recent years because of their potential uses as contrast agents for magnetic resonance imaging (MHI)([1]). The research interests are mainly focussed on Gd3+ complexes of DTPA, DOTA and their various derivatives. Four kinds of Gd3+ complexes can be used presently in clinical MRI, which are GD(DTPA)([2]), Gd(DOTA)([3]), Gd(DTPA-BMA)([4]) and Gd(HP-DO3A)([5]). Here report two new DTPA bis (amide) derivatives-diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid-N, N ''-bis (dimethylamide) (DTPA-BDMA) and -bis (diethylamide) (DTPA-BDEA).

Three new kinds of 1,3,5-thiadiazine-2-thi one derivatives of chitosan with two different molecular weight (SATTCS1, SATTCS2, TITTCS1, TITTCS2, CITTCS1 and CITTCS2) have been prepared. Their structures were characterized by IR spectroscopy. The substitution degree of derivatives calculated by elemental analyses was 0.47, 0.42, 0.41, 0.38, 0.41 and 0.36, respectively. The result shows that substitution degree of derivatives was higher with lower molecular weight. The antioxidant activity was studied using an established system, such as bydroxyl radical scavenging, superoxide radical scavenging and reducing power. Antioxidant activity of the 1,3,5-thiadiazine-2-thione derivatives of chitosan were stronger than that of chitosans and antioxiclant activity of low molecular weight derivatives were stronger than that of high molecular weight derivatives. It is a potential antioxidant in vitro. (c) 2007 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Corrosion inhibition by some new triazole derivatives on mild steel in 1 M hydrochloric acid solutions has been investigated by weight loss test, electrochemical measurement, scanning electronic microscope analysis and quantum chemical calculations. The results indicate that these compounds act as mixed-type inhibitors retarding the anodic and cathodic corrosion reactions and do not change the mechanism of either hydrogen evolution reaction or mild steel dissolution. The studied compounds following the Langmuir adsorption isotherm, and the thermodynamic parameters were determined and discussed. The effect of molecular structure on the inhibition efficiency has been investigated by ab initio quantum chemical calculations. The electronic properties such as highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO), lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) energy levels, energy gap (LUMO-HOMO), dipole moment and molecular orbital densities were calculated. cis-2,3-Dihydrodiol metabolites of monosubstituted halobenzenes and toluene have been used as synthetic precursors of the corresponding 3,4-cis-dihydrodiols. Enantiopure syn-benzene dioxide intermediates were reduced to the 3,4-cis-dihydrodiols and thermally racemised via the corresponding 1,4-dioxocins. The syn-benzene dioxide-1,4-dioxocin valence tautomeric equilibrium ratio was found to be dependent on the substituent position. The methodology has also been applied to the synthesis of both enantiomers of the 1,2-(ipso)- and 3,4-cis-dihydrodiols of toluene. This chemoenzymatic approach thus makes available, for the first time, all three possible cis-dihydrodiol regioisomers of a monosubstituted benzene.

A mutant strain (UV4) of the soil bacterium Pseudomonas putida, containing toluene dioxygenase, has been used in the metabolic oxidation of 1,2-dihydrobenzocyclobutene 12 dagger and the related substrates 1,2-dihydrobenzocyclobuten-1-ol 13 and biphenylene 33. Stable angular cis-monohydrodiol metabolites (1R,2S)-bicyclo[4.2.0]octa-3,5-diene-1,2 7, (1S,2S,8S)-bicyclo[4.2.0]octa-3,5-diene-1,2,8-triol 8 and biphenylene-cis-1,8b-diol 9, isolated from each of these substrates, have been structurally and stereochemically assigned. The structure, enantiopurity and absolute configuration of the other cis-diol metabolites, (2R,3S)-bicyclo[4.2.0]octa-1(6),4-diene-2,3-diol 14 and cis-1,2-dihydroxy-1,2-dihydrobenzocyclobutene 16, and the benzylic oxidation bioproducts, 1,2-dihydrobenzocyclobuten-1-ol 13, 1,2-dihydrobenzocyclobuten-1-one 15 and 2-hydroxy-1,2-dihydrobenzocyclobuten-1-one 17, obtained from 1,2-dihydrobenzocyclobutene and 1,2-dihydrobenzocyclobuten-1-ol, have been determined with the aid of chiral stationary-phase HPLC, NMR and CD spectroscopy, and stereochemical correlation. X-Ray crystallographic methods have been used in the determination of absolute configuration of the di-camphanates 27 (from diol 7) and 32 (from diol 9), and the di-MTPA ester 29 (from diol 14) of the corresponding cis-diol metabolites. The metabolic sequence involved in the formation of bioproducts derived from 1,2-dihydrobenzocyclobutene 12 has been investigated.

This thesis describes a method involving the preparation of an L-proline-derived imidazolone protected with an N-triethylsilyl group that undergoes diastereoselective lithiation followed by electrophile quench to give C5-substituted products with syn stereochemistry. The N-silylated derivatives may be more easily N-deprotected as compared to previous N-t-Bu analogues to give secondary ureas. These may serve as precursors to N-phenyl chiral bicyclic guanidines or as NHC precursors for synthesis of corresponding complexes.
