Cette recherche vise à documenter l’expérience scolaire des élèves québécois d’origine chinoise à l’école secondaire de langue française et à examiner les dynamiques qui influencent la réussite scolaire de ces élèves. Elle s’intéresse plus précisément aux impacts des facteurs relatifs à l’école, à la famille immigrante, et à ceux de la communauté ethnique sur l’intégration de ces jeunes dans un contexte francophone. Les données ont été principalement recueillies à travers des entretiens semi-structurés approfondis auprès d’élèves d’origine chinoise et de différents acteurs du paradigme éducatif (parents, acteurs scolaires et intervenants communautaires). D’autres instruments, tels que l’analyse du contenu de documents et de médias, ont également été utilisés afin de fournir des informations contextuelles et d’enrichir les données d’entrevues. Les données ont été analysées selon un cadre théorique ouvert et inclusif où la réussite scolaire des élèves issus de l’immigration est mesurée en mettant l’accent sur l’influence de la maîtrise de la langue d’enseignement, du capital culturel et social de la famille et de la communauté immigrante, ainsi que des facteurs systémiques au niveau de l’école. Les résultats de cette étude dans trois écoles cibles montrent qu’en général les élèves d’origine chinoise connaissent une expérience positive, surtout en ce qui concerne leur performance scolaire en mathématiques et sciences. Cependant, les nouveaux arrivants ont tendance à éprouver des difficultés dans l’apprentissage du français et pour leur intégration sociale. En effet, le processus d’intégration socioscolaire des jeunes chinois est sous l’influence des différents milieux qu’ils fréquentent. À propos de l’influence des dynamiques scolaires, les résultats de la recherche indiquent qu’une relation maître-élève positive joue un rôle important dans la réussite éducative de ces élèves. Toutefois, l’insuffisance du soutien à l’apprentissage défavorise l’intégration linguistique et sociale des élèves nouvellement arrivés. Les données de cette étude soulignent notamment le rôle de la famille immigrante et de la communauté ethnique dans l’expérience scolaire de ces jeunes. D’une part, sous l’impact des dynamiques familiales, notamment ce qui à trait au projet migratoire, à la culture chinoise et à l’expérience pré- et post-migratoire, les parents immigrants chinois s’impliquent activement dans les études de leurs enfants, malgré des barrières linguistiques et culturelles. D’autre part, afin de surmonter les effets négatifs des faibles liens entretenus avec l’école de langue française, les parents chinois ont largement recours aux ressources au sein de la communauté ethnique, tels que les médias de langue chinoise, les organismes ethnospécifiques de services aux immigrants, l’école du samedi et les institutions religieuses ethniques. Ces institutions sociales ethniques contribuent à soutenir les valeurs culturelles, échanger des informations, établir des modèles pour les jeunes et à fournir des services appropriés en matière culturelle et linguistique.

Gerade männliche Jugendliche nutzen in ihrer Pubertät und Adoleszenz zu einer gelingenden Gestaltung ihres Alltags und zur Ausbildung ihrer Identität zahlreiche Erscheinungsformen des Fantasy-Rollenspielens. In einem Prozess von Aneignung und Entäußerung integrieren dabei die Jugendlichen das überaus reiche multimediale Angebot, welches die Spiele bieten, in ihre Alltagsgestaltung, indem sie sich daraus spezifische Medien-, Text- und Ereignisarrangements bauen. Diese dienen einerseits der sozialen Integration und Distinktion, andererseits der Präsentation ihrer Identitätsentwürfe sich und anderen. Die Jugendlichen schaffen sich mittels dieser spezifischen Medien-, Text- und Ereignisarrangements eine in weiten Teilen von ihnen selbst bestimmte Welt, in der sie ihre Phantasie wie Kreativität mit großer Intensität, ja Obsession, innerhalb integrativer und solidarischer Interaktionsformen selbststeuernd und professionell ausleben. Diese Medien-, Text- und Ereignisarrangements zeigen Angebots- und Nutzungsformen, die sich nach einem medienkommunikativen Aneignungs- und Entäußerungsmodell in der Tradition der Cultural Studies (Stuart Hall) beschreiben lassen. Die Langzeitbeobachtung der Jugendlichen zeigt, dass sie alltagspragmatische Kulturtechniken zur selbstbestimmten Gestaltung von Alltag entwickeln: zunächst eine Strukturierung ihrer kognitiven, affektiven und pragmatischen Interaktion nach Kriterien erfolgreicher intrinsischer Interaktion, mit dem Ziel derer Perpetuierung im Flow-Erleben (Mihalyi Csikszentmihalyi), dann eine Ästhetisierung von Alltagswirklichkeit mittels kollektiver Fiktionalisierung in der Tradition des Collective Story Telling (Janet H. Murray). Diese Kulturtechniken stellen vor dem Hintergrund der Enkodierung und Dekodierung sozialer Codes spezifische Adaptionen von Prozessen der Bedeutungszuweisung und Subjekt- bzw. Identitätskonstitution dar. Die sie evozierenden und mit ihnen korrespondierenden handlungsleitenden Themen der Jugendlichen sind der Wunsch nach Rekonstitution von Gesamtheit in einer sich fragmentarisierenden Wirklichkeit, die Affirmation von Selbstbestimmung- und Autonomieerfahrungen, das Erleben von Reintegration und Solidarität für das sich dissoziiert erfahrende Individuum. Das Handeln der Jugendlichen basiert damit auf dem momentan dominanten Prozess einer Individualisierung von Lebenswelt unter den Bedingungen von Reflexivität und Erlebnisrationalität in der postmodernen Gesellschaft. Mit ihren Versuchen selbstbestimmter Gestaltung folgen sie dem aktuellen gesellschaftlichen Auftrag einer weitgehend in eigener Regie vorzunehmenden Lokalisierung dieses Prozesses. Zunehmend tritt diese von den Jugendlichen selbstgesteuerte Sozialisation neben die traditionell heteronome Sozialisation von gesellschaftlichen Instituten wie etwa die von Schule. Damit wird das Handeln der Jugendlichen zu einer Herausforderung an Pädagogik und Schule. Schule muss, wenn sie ihrem eigentlichen Auftrag von Förderung gerecht werden will, eine Sensibilität für diese Eigenständigkeit von Jugendlichen entwickeln und in der Beobachtung ihres Handelns didaktische Innovationen für Lehren und Lernen entwickeln. Im Mittelpunkt steht dabei die Wiederentdeckung des pädagogischen Dialogs, besonders aber die Entwicklung einer individualisierten Lernkultur und die Förderung jugendlicher Gestaltungskompetenzen, welche von deren alltagsästhetischen Erfahrungen und Kompetenzen im Umgang mit multimedialen Kulturprodukten ausgeht. Schule kann und muss für diese Prozesse selbstgesteuerten Lernens angemessene pädagogische Räume bereitstellen, in denen die Jugendlichen innerhalb eines geschützten Kontextes in der Auseinandersetzung mit eigenen wie fremden Entwürfen ihre Identität entwickeln können.

Currently the push toward frontier areas, which until twenty years ago were still largely untouched by commercial agriculture, is taking place on a massive scale. This push is being driven not the least by global economic developments, such as the price increase of agriculture commodities like coffee and cocoa. In most cases the indigenous communities become trapped between the state monopoly in natural resource management and the competition for resources by external actors. In this processes the indigenous communities start to lose their access to resources. Another victim in this process is the environment where the natural resources are imbedded. International and national organizations working to conserve environment have became conscious of the important role that indigenous people could fulfill as partners in this endeavour. This partnership in struggle has produced a new discourse on the relationship between indigenous people and their environment. As a further consequence, programs were set up to develop what became known as Community Based Natural Resource Management (CBNRM) with its numerous variations. Based on a case study in a village on the eastern border of the Lore Lindu National Park in Central Sulawesi, this study questioned the basic assumption behind the concept of Community Based Natural Resource Management (CBNRM). Namely the assumption that communities living at the margin of forest are socially and culturally homogenous, still more or less egalitarian, and basically living in harmony with their natural environment. This study was inspired by the persistent critique – although still a minority – on the basic assumption the CBNRM from academicians and practitioners working through the Entitlement perspective. Another inspiration was the mounting critique toward the participatory approach. In its effort the study explore further the usefulness of certain approaches. One of the approach much relied on in this study was the local history of the community studied, through exerting oral and local written documents on local history, legends and local stories. These sources proofed quite capable in bringing the local history into the light. Another was the actor oriented approach, which later came to be supported by the concept of Social Pool Resources. The latter concept proofed to be useful as analytical instrument to integrate social institutions and the common pool resources, as a field of action for the different actors as human agencies.

El interés de este artículo es evaluar el tema de la construcción de “una opinión pública” ilustrada como camino de consolidación de la democracia moderna en Colombia. Este aspecto constituye un elemento fundante, pues integra la complejidad de la democracia a través del diálogo entre sistema y mundo de la vida. Igualmente, desde la opinión pública y sus posibilidades, puede evaluarse la consolidación democrática como prueba de funcionamiento del conjunto de las instituciones sociales, en su búsqueda de libertades en ámbitos de eficiencia, justicia y armonía social; en el sentido de una democracia deliberativa-radical, y siguiendo a Amartya Sen, por un desarrollo como libertad. En el caso colombiano, con las debilidades de su estructura estatal, fenómenos como el narcotráfico y la lucha guerrillera, el precario desarrollo de una ilustración entre la población, y en particular la inequidad económica y social, se erigen como impedimentos en el proceso de construcción de una opinión pública madura, beligerante y decisoria.-----This article aims at evaluating the topic of “public opinion” construction illustrated as a road toward modern democracy consolidation in Colombia. This aspect constitutes a basis element, because integrates democracy complexity through a dialog between life system and life world. Furthermore, from the public opinion and its potentialities, the democratic consolidation can be evaluated as evidencing that social institutions work as a group on seeking freedom in the realms of efficiency, justice, and social harmony; within the meaning of a radical-deliberative democracy and following Amartya Sen in the pursuance of development as freedom. As for Colombia with the government structures’ weaknesses, phenomena such as narcotrafic and guerrilla group fight, poor development of population literacy and particularly, the social and financial inequity arise as impairments to the process of building a mature and belligerent public opinion with decisionmaking power.

Se busca identificar las características de convergencia y divergencia entre ambas, así como indagar acerca del impacto que tienen los procesos de cambio en la conformación de una identidad sólida que les permita ser perdurables en el tiempo.

Rejecting the concept of law as subservient to social pathology, the principle aim of this article is to locatc law as a critical matter of social structure - and power - which requires to be considered as a central element in the construction of society and social institutions. As such, this article contends that wider jurisprudential notions such as legal procedure and procedural justice, and juridical power and discretion are cogent, robust normative social concerns (as much as they are legal concerns) that positively require consideration and representation in the ernpifical study of sociological phenomena. Reflecting upon scholarship and research evidence on legal procedure and decision-making, the article attempts to elucidate the inter-relationship between power, 'the social', and the operation of law. Development policies in the pastoral areas of Africa assume that pastoralists are poor. Using the Afar pastoralists of Ethiopia as the focus of research this article challenges this depiction of pastoralism by exploring pastoral livelihood goals and traditional strategies for managing risk. Investment in social institutions to minimise the risk of outright destitution, sometimes at the cost of increased poverty, and significant manipulation of local markets enable the Afar to exploit a highly uncertain and marginal environment. Improved development assistance and enhanced targeting of the truly vulnerable within pastoral societies demands an acceptance that pastoral poverty is neither uniform nor universal.

Natural resource-dependent societies in developing countries are facing increased pressures linked to global climate change. While social-ecological systems evolve to accommodate variability, there is growing evidence that changes in drought, storm and flood extremes are increasing exposure of currently vulnerable populations. In many countries in Africa, these pressures are compounded by disruption to institutions and variability in livelihoods and income. The interactions of both rapid and slow onset livelihood disturbance contribute to enduring poverty and slow processes of rural livelihood renewal across a complex landscape. We explore cross-scale dynamics in coping and adaptation response, drawing on qualitative data from a case study in Mozambique. The research characterises the engagements across multiple institutional scales and the types of agents involved, providing insight into emergent conditions for adaptation to climate change in rural economies, The analysis explores local responses to climate shocks, food security and poverty reduction, through informal institutions, forms of livelihood diversification and collective land-use systems that allow reciprocity, flexibility and the ability to buffer shocks. However, the analysis shows that agricultural initiatives have helped to facilitate effective livelihood renewal, through the reorganisation of social institutions and opportunities for communication, innovation and micro-credit. Although there are challenges to mainstreaming adaptation at different scales, this research shows why it is critical to assess how policies can protect conditions for emergence of livelihood transformation. John Rawls’s A Theory of Justice (1971), his first major work articulating his theory of justice as fairness, was immediately recognized as a fundamental contribution to political philosophy in the twentieth century. Working within the tradition established by previous philosophers such as Kant and Locke, Rawls employed the contract theory approach. Taking it to a higher order of abstraction, he sought to determine not what the structure of social organization would be, but what the principles which governed social institutions would be under a hypothetical contracting situation. Rawls uses this contract theory approach to construct a society in which the morally irrelevant contingencies of nature and social arrangements are mitigated by principles of justice which govern the basic institutions of society. A common observation has been that Rawls left out any discussion of health care and how it might fit into his conception of a just society. Several philosophers have articulated expansions of the theory to account for health care. In the chapters that follow I will continue this tradition and consider how justice as fairness might be expanded to account for just health care allocation. In doing so, I hope to answer a particularly strong critique of the theory brought up by Amartya Sen and Martha Nussbaum, and to argue for a broadened conception of health care which takes into account the complex causal relationship between society and human health.

o comportamento do homem está influenciado por vários fatores, dentre eles as necessidades básicas, a razão, o coração e a consciência. Para modificar o comportamento do homem com vistas a um comportamento mais cooperativo, faz-se necessário agir sobre algum desses fatores. Do ponto de vista ético o fator que deve ser trabalhado é a consciência, que permitiria o surgimento da estrutura organizacional orgânica. A estrutura orgânica permitiria às organizações, ao Estado e à sociedade, ter um relacionamento mais adequado com uma realidade social, universal e cósmica que se revela harmônica em seus princípios. A estrutura orgânica organizacional parte das propriedades da metáfora orgânica, presente em qualquer sistema orgânico (biológico, atômico e cósmico), e surge a partir dos seguintes pressupostos: a realidade pode ser representada como uma estrutura em rede orgânica, e o comportamento das pessoas vem determinado pelo nível de consciência. A estrutura orgânica possui os princípios de Autopoiesis e do Holograma, e tem uma série de propriedades aplicáveis em nível organizacional, tais como adaptação, evolução, flexibilidade e homeostase. A sociedade orgânica viria modelada pelos princípios e propriedades da estrutura orgânica, que induziriam o surgimento de comportamentos cooperativos e solidários dentro das instituições sociais, sobretudo aqueles relacionados com a organização do trabalho e a organização da economia. Adicionalmente, o paradigma orgânico conduziria ao estabelecimento das comunidades orgânicas. O Estado orgânico surgiria como decorrência de uma situação em que, o paradigma burocrático revelando-se inadequado para seu funcionamento, permitiria sua organização sob o paradigma orgânico. A substituição do paradigma organizacional burocrático-mecanicista vigente pelo paradigma orgânico, ocorreria de acordo com uma das seguintes alternativas: a) um processo intencional de mudanças minimalistas intercalado com ações radicais pontuais; ou b) uma situação de crise, em decorrência do impedimento do fluxo de mudanças naturais não implementadas. Propõe-se, assim, o paradigma orgânico como ponto de partida indispensável a mudanças conducentes ao bem estar individual e coletivo.

Este trabalhe tem cerne objetivo investigar e universo psicossocial de um grupo de mulheres idosas de classe socioeconômica baixa. Inicialmente, são analisadas as problemáticas da mulher e de idoso a partir de uma revisão crítica da literatura, compreendendo estudes teóricos e pesquisas empíricas realizadas no Brasil. Também são focalizados os conceitos de identidade e de marginalidade, cem frequência referidos no percurso de trabalho. A seguir, é relatada uma pesquisa de campo em que se utiliza e método de história de vida. Foram entrevistadas 20 mulheres cem idade acima de 60 anos, de baixa renda, residentes em uma cidade de médio porte de Estado de Espirite Santo. Apresenta-se uma caracterização prévia da população e posteriormente uma análise das entrevistas. Nesta análise observam-se algumas convergências básicas nas condições objetivas de vida e nas representações construídas pele grupo das entrevistadas acerca de suas vivências, no que se refere especialmente às suas condições de trabalho, às suas inserções nos contextos familiar e público, às imagens das figuras masculina e feminina elaboradas e à situação. vivencial de envelhecimento. Destacam-se entre essas convergências: o exercício de atividades laborais informais não-especializadas; a referência frequente ao contexto familiar; a construção de uma auto imagem fragilizada ou ambígua que não se coaduna com as experiências de sustentáculo familiar relatadas; e uma adequação/inadequação ao modelo vigente de velhice, denotando, frequentemente, uma defasagem entre a idade cronológica e o sentimento subjetivo do envelhecimento. Finalmente, a conclusão procura integrar os aspectos mais significativos observados nos relatos, delineando-se o perfil psicossocial do grupo estudado.

Cet article rassemble des concepts, des théories et des données afin de comprendre comment ils articulent les nouvelles formes de gouvernance du territoire, à travers les stratégies institutionnelles et organisationnelles des acteurs locaux à mobiliser les actifs spécifiques des territoires dans les projets de développement local. Cette étude propose une base théorique pour les études appliquées à essayer de comprendre comment exprimer les organisations et institutions, ses acteurs et ses agents dans l'environnement de la structure de gouvernance territoriale, étant donné les cours divers secteurs socio-spatiale et territoriale au Brésil. Ainsi, les arrangements productifs locaux (APL) et Tours apparaissent comme des stratégies novatrices pour la gouvernance territoriale étant donné le caractère de sa propre configuration de la relation entre l'Etat, privées et autres institutions sociales.

Este estudo abordará a construção da identidade de diretores de escola sob dois enfoques: à luz do discurso oficial, por meio do estudo de documentos e legislações que definem seu perfil, e por meio do discurso dos diretores, ao caracterizar sua atuação na prática cotidiana da escola. O pressuposto do estudo é o de que a identidade de diretores é o conjunto das representações colocadas em circulação tanto pelos discursos oficiais quanto pelos modos de ser e agir dos gestores de escola no exercício de suas funções. Um dos pontos de análise relaciona-se à contribuição da estrutura burocrática e centralizadora que permeia as instituições sociais no Brasil, na construção da identidade oficial estabelecida para os diretores de escola. A discussão da construção da identidade de diretores de escola tem importância na medida em que se insere nas expectativas sobre a atuação deles em diferentes momentos históricos.

The document What kind of State? What kind of equality? analyses the progress of gender equality in the region 15 years after the approval of the Beijing Platform for Action, 10 years after the drafting of the Millennium Development Goals and 3 years after the adoption of the Quito Consensus at the tenth session of the Regional Conference on Women in Latin America and the Caribbean, held in 2007. It also examines the achievements made and challenges faced by governments in light of the interaction between the State, the market and families as social institutions built on the foundation of policies, laws, and customs and habits which, together, establish the conditions for renewing or perpetuating gender and social hierarchies.
