The novel NS-containing zirconacycle complexes Cp2ZrCl[SC(H)NR] (1a, R = C6H5; 1b, R = 2-C10H7; 1c, R= C-C6H11; 1d; R = n-C4H9) were obtained by insertion reactions of Cp2Zr(H)Cl with RNCS. 1(a-d) could react further with Cp2Zr(H)Cl to yield a sulphur-bridging compleX (Cp2ZrCl)2S (2) and a Schiff base RN=CH2. The crystal structure of la has been determined by X-ray analysis.

To identify new susceptibility loci for psoriasis, we undertOk a genome-wide asociation study of 594,224 SNPs in 2,622 individuals with psoriasis and 5,667 controls. We identified asociations at eight previously unreported genomic loci. Seven loci harbored genes with recognized iMune functions (IL28RA, REL, IFIH1, ERAP1, TRAF3IP2, NFKBIA and TYK2). These asociations were replicated in 9,079 European samples (six loci with a combined P < 5-10 -8 and two loci with a combined P < 5-10-7). We also report compeLing evidence for an interaction betwEn the HLA-C and ERAP1 loci (combined P = 6.95-10-6). ERAP1 plays an important role in MHC claS I peptide proceSing. ERAP1 variants only influenced psoriasis susceptibility in individuals carrying the HLA-C risk aLele. Our findings implicate pathways that integrate epidermal barrier dysfunction with iNate and adaptive iMune dysregulation in psoriasis pathogenesis.

<p>A series of C<sub>s</sub>- and C<sub>1</sub>-symmetric doubly-linked ansa-metallocenes of the general formula {1,1'-SiMe<sub>2</sub>-2,2'-E-('<sup>5</sup>-C<sub>5</sub>H<sub>2</sub>-4-R<sup>1</sup>)-(<sup>5</sup>-C<sub>5</sub>H-3',5'-(CHMe<sub>2</sub>)<sub>2</sub>)}ZrC<sub>2</sub> (E = SiMe<sub>2</sub> (1), SiPh<sub>2</sub> (2), SiMe<sub>2</sub> -SiMe<sub>2</sub> (3); R<sup>1</sup> = H, CHMe<sub>2</sub>, C<sub>5</sub>H<sub>9</sub>, C<sub>6</sub>H<sub>11</sub>, C<sub>6</sub>H<sub>5</sub>) has been prepared. When activated by methylaluminoxane, these are active propylene polymerization catalysts. 1 and 2 produce syndiotactic polypropylenes, and 3 produces isotactic polypropylenes. Site epimerization is the major pathway for stereoerror formation for 1 and 2. In addition, the polymer chain has slightly stronger steric interaction with the diphenylsilylene linker than with the dimethylsilylene linker. This results in more frequent site epimerization and reduced syndiospecificity for 2 compared to 1. </p> <p>C<sub>1</sub>-Symmetric ansa-zirconocenes [1,1 '-SiMe<sub>2</sub>-(C<sub>5</sub>H<sub>4</sub>)-(3-R-C<sub>5</sub>H<sub>3</sub>)]ZrCl<sub>2</sub> (4), [1,1 '-SiMe<sub>2</sub>-(C<sub>5</sub>H<sub>4</sub>)-(2,4-R<sub>2</sub>-C<sub>5</sub>H<sub>2</sub>)]ZrCl<sub>2</sub> (5) and [1,1 '-SiMe<sub>2</sub>-2,2 '-(SiMe<sub>2</sub>-SiMe<sub>2</sub>)-(C<sub>5</sub>H<sub>3</sub>)-( 4-R-C<sub>5</sub>H<sub>2</sub>)]ZrCl<sub>2</sub> (6) have been prepared to probe the origin of isospecificity in 3. While 4 and 3 produce polymers with similar isospecificity, 5 and 6 give mostly hemi-isotactic-like polymers. It is proposed that the facile site epimerization via an associative pathway allows rapid equilibration of the polymer chain between the isospecific and aspecific insertion sites. This results in more frequent insertion from the isospecific site, which has a lower kinetic barrier for chain propagation. On the other hand, site epimerization for 5 and 6 is slow. This leads to mostly alternating insertion from the isospecific and aspecific sites, and consequently, a hemi-isotactic-like polymers. In comparison, site epimerization is even slower for 3, but enchainment from the aspecific site has an extremely high kinetic barrier for monomer coordination. Therefore, enchainment occurs preferentially from the isospecific site to produce isotactic polymers. </p> <p>A series of cationic complexes [(ArN=CR-CR=NAr)PtMe(L)]<sup>+</sup>[BF<sub>4</sub>]<sup>+</sup> (Ar = aryl; R = H, CH<sub>3</sub>; L = water, trifluoroethanol) has been prepared. They react smoothly with benzene at approximately room temperature in trifluoroethanol solvent to yield methane and the corresponding phenyl Pt(II) cations, via Pt(IV)-methyl-phenyl-hydride intermediates. The reaction products of methyl-substituted benzenes suggest an inherent reactivity preference for aromatic over benzylic C-H bond activation, which can however be overridden by steric effects. For the reaction of benzene with cationic Pt(II) complexes, in which the diimine ligands bear 3,5-disubstituted aryl groups at the nitrogen atoms, the rate-determining step is C-H bond activation. For the more sterically crowded analogs with 2,6-dimethyl-substituted aryl groups, benzene coordination becomes rate-determining. The more electron-rich the ligand, as reflected by the CO stretching frequency in the IR spectrum of the corresponding cationic carbonyl complex, the faster the rate of C-H bond activation. This finding, however, does not reflect the actual C-H bond activation process, but rather reflects only the relative ease of solvent molecules displacing water molecules to initiate the reaction. That is, the change in rates is mostly due to a ground state effect. Several lines of evidence suggest that associative substitution pathways operate to get the hydrocarbon substrate into, and out of, the coordination sphere; i.e., that benzene substitution proceeds by a solvent- (TFE-) assisted associative pathway. </p>

Lodos de esgoto possuem alto teor de carbono orgnico, porm, h um expressivo consumo de matria orgnica logo aps sua aplicao no solo, at que seja alcanado novo equilbrio da relao C/N. Neste trabalho, apresentam- se resultados referentes decomposio da frao orgnica de dois lodos de esgoto anaerbios, provenientes das Estaes de Tratamento de Esgoto de Franca/SP (esgoto domstico) e de Barueri/SP (esgoto urbanoindustrial). Os tratamentos estudados foram de 1, 2, 4 e 8 vezes a aplicao da dose recomendada, com base no teor de N, de dois lodos de esgoto, as quais foram equivalentes aplicao, numa camada de 0-20 cm de solo, de 3, 6, 12 e 24 Mg ha-1 (Franca) e 8, 16, 32 e 64 Mg ha-1 (Barueri). Avaliou-se o efeito dos tratamentos sobre a emisso de carbono na forma de CO2, em cmaras sem circulao forada de ar, aps 57 dias de incubao de misturas de amostras de um Latossolo Vermelho distrofrrico com as doses dos lodos de esgoto. O padro de emisso de C-CO2 foi semelhante nos dois tipos de lodos de esgoto. Houve aumento da liberao de C-CO2 com o aumento das doses dos dois lodos de esgoto. A taxa respiratria foi maior no incio da incubao, observando-se 50% ou mais da decomposio total da matria orgnica dos lodos de esgoto nos primeiros 15 dias. A biodecomposio estimada da matria orgnica aplicada ao solo via lodos de esgoto foi de 15%.

Humans and mice lacking functional caspase-8 in T cells manifest a profound immunodeficiency syndrome due to defective T cell antigen receptor (TCR)-induced NF-kappaB signaling and proliferation. It is unknown how caspase-8 is activated following T cell stimulation, and what is the caspase-8 substrate(s) that is necessary to initiate T cell cycling. We observe that following TCR ligation, a small portion of total cellular caspase-8 and c-FLIP(L) rapidly migrate to lipid rafts where they associate in an active caspase complex. Activation of caspase-8 in lipid rafts is followed by rapid cleavage of c-FLIP(L) at a known caspase-8 cleavage site. The active caspase.c-FLIP complex forms in the absence of Fas (CD95/APO1) and associates with the NF-kappaB signaling molecules RIP1, TRAF2, and TRAF6, as well as upstream NF-kappaB regulators PKC theta, CARMA1, Bcl-10, and MALT1, which connect to the TCR. The lack of caspase-8 results in the absence of MALT1 and Bcl-10 in the active caspase complex. Consistent with this observation, inhibition of caspase activity attenuates NF-kappaB activation. The current findings define a link among TCR, caspases, and the NF-kappaB pathway that occurs in a sequestered lipid raft environment in T cells.

Gas-phase electron diffraction (GED) data together with results from ab initio molecular orbital calculations (HF and MP2/6-311+G(d,p)) have been used to determine the structure of hexamethyldigermane ((CH3)3Ge-Ge(CH3)3). The equilibrium symmetry is D3d, but the molecule has a very low-frequency, largeamplitude, torsional mode (CGeGeC) that lowers the thermal average symmetry. The effect of this largeamplitude mode on the interatomic distances was described by a dynamic model which consisted of a set of pseudoconformers spaced at even intervals. The amount of each pseudoconformer was obtained from the ab initio calculations (HF/6-311+G(d,p)). The results for the principal distances (ra) and angles (h1) obtained from the combined GED/ab initio (with estimated 1 uncertainties) are r(Ge-Ge) ) 2.417(2) , r(Ge-C) ) 1.956(1) , r(C-H) ) 1.097(5) , GeGeC ) 110.5(2), and GeCH ) 108.8(6). Theoretical calculations were performed for the related molecules ((CH3)3Si-Si(CH3)3 and (CH3)3C-C(CH3)3).

In this work we report on new optically pumped THz laser lines from deuterated formic acid (DCOOD). An isotopic (CO2)-C-13 laser was used for the first time as a pump source for this molecule, and a Fabry-Perot cavity was used as a THz laser resonator. Optoacoustic absorption spectra were used as a guide to search for new THz laser lines. We could observe six new laser lines in the range from 303.8 mu m (0.987 THz) to 725.1 mu m (0.413 THz). The lines were characterized according to wavelength, relative polarization, relative intensity, and optimum working pressure. The transferred lamb-dip technique was used to measure the frequency absorption transition for both of these laser lines. Furthermore, we also present a catalogue of all THz laser lines generated from DCOOD.

The aim of the present study was to investigate the presence of Trypanosoma cruzi in the heart, liver, lung, and kidneys, using hemoculture and PCR analysis, of mice infected with different parasite strains during the acute and chronic phases of infection. Parasitemia curves revealed strain-specific biological behaviors. For the Y and JLP strains, the acute phase of infection started at days six and ten post-infection, parasitemia peaked at days seven and 15 post-infection, the chronic phase started at days nine and 28 post-infection, and animals started dying at days 19 and 120 post-infection, respectively. When the two strains were compared, the JLP strain exhibited reduced and slower replication rates associated with a delayed peak of parasitism and reduced parasite burdens. However, parasites were detected in all studied organs using PCR analysis. The capacity of both strains to infect different organs likely influences disease pathogenesis.

Estudou-se, sob condies de casa de vegetao, o efeito da aplicao de reguladores e estimulantes vegetais no desenvolvimento do milho cultivar Cargill -525. Os reguladores e estimulantes utilizados foram: giberelina 100 ppm, ethephon 600 ppm, Agrostemin 0,8 g/l e Triacontanol 0,5 mg/l; aplicados por pulverizao 34 dias aps a semeadura, alm do controle, foram determinados os parmetros relativos a altura da planta, nmero de folhas, rea foliar e peso da materia seca de raiz, caule e folhas. A partir dos dados de rea foliar e peso da matria seca total obtidos em 4coletas realizadas com intervalos de 14 dias, foram calculadas a taxa assimilatria lquida (TAL), taxa de crescimento relativo (TCR) e razo de rea foliar (RAF). Giberelina 100 ppm aumentou inicialmente a altura das plantas de milho, sendo que ethephon 600 ppm reduziu a altura mdia do milho. 0 nmero de folhas foi diminudo nas plantas tratadas com giberelina, tendendo a aumentar no tratamento com ethephon. Giberelina reduziu o peso da matria seca das plantas de milho, sendo que ethephon incrementou o peso de razes, colmo e folhos. Triacontanol promoveu reduo na TAL e na TCR do milho 'Cargill - 525' . Giberelina e ethephon tenderam a diminuir a RAF das plantas de Zea mays L.
