A software system, recently developed by the authors for the efficient capturing, editing, and delivery of audio-visual web lectures, was used to create a series of lectures for a first-year undergraduate course in Dynamics. These web lectures were developed to serve as an extra study resource for students attending lectures and not as a replacement. A questionnaire was produced to obtain feedback from students. The overall response was very favorable and numerous requests were made for other lecturers to adopt this technology. Despite the students' approval of this added resource, there was no significant improvement in overall examination performance

N-gram analysis is an approach that investigates the structure of a program using bytes, characters or text strings. This research uses dynamic analysis to investigate malware detection using a classification approach based on N-gram analysis. The motivation for this research is to find a subset of Ngram features that makes a robust indicator of malware. The experiments within this paper represent programs as N-gram density histograms, gained through dynamic analysis. A Support Vector Machine (SVM) is used as the program classifier to determine the ability of N-grams to correctly determine the presence of malicious software. The preliminary findings show that an N-gram size N=3 and N=4 present the best avenues for further analysis.

This paper presents an approach to COLREGs compliant ship navigation. A system architecture is proposed, which will be implemented and tested on two platforms: networked bridge simulators and at sea trials using an autonomous unmanned surface vessel. Attention is paid to collision avoidance software and its risk mitigation.

Revenue Management’s most cited definitions is probably “to sell the right accommodation to the right customer, at the right time and the right price, with optimal satisfaction for customers and hoteliers”. Smart Revenue Management (SRM) is a project, which aims the development of smart automatic techniques for an efficient optimization of occupancy and rates of hotel accommodations, commonly referred to, as revenue management. One of the objectives of this project is to demonstrate that the collection of Big Data, followed by an appropriate assembly of functionalities, will make possible to generate a Data Warehouse necessary to produce high quality business intelligence and analytics. This will be achieved through the collection of data extracted from a variety of sources, including from the web. This paper proposes a three stage framework to develop the Big Data Warehouse for the SRM. Namely, the compilation of all available information, in the present case, it was focus only the extraction of information from the web by a web crawler – raw data. The storing of that raw data in a primary NoSQL database, and from that data the conception of a set of functionalities, rules, principles and semantics to select, combine and store in a secondary relational database the meaningful information for the Revenue Management (Big Data Warehouse). The last stage will be the principal focus of the paper. In this context, clues will also be giving how to compile information for Business Intelligence. All these functionalities contribute to a holistic framework that, in the future, will make it possible to anticipate customers and competitor’s behavior, fundamental elements to fulfill the Revenue Management

Tourist recommendation systems have been growing over the last years, mainly because of the use of mobile devices to get user context. This work discuss some of the most relevant systems on the field and presents PSiS Mobile, which is a mobile recommendation and planning application designed to support a tourist during his vacations. It provides recommendations about points of interest to visit based on tourist preferences and on user and sight context. Also, it suggests a visit planning which can be dynamically adapted based on current user and sight context. This tool works like a journey dairy since it records the tourist moves and tasks to help him remember how the trip was like. To conclude, some field experiences will be presented.

The changes introduced into the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) by the Bologna Process, together with renewed pedagogical and methodological practices, have created a new teaching-learning paradigm: Student-Centred Learning. In addition, the last few years have been characterized by the application of Information Technologies, especially the Semantic Web, not only to the teaching-learning process, but also to administrative processes within learning institutions. On one hand, the aim of this study was to present a model for identifying and classifying Competencies and Learning Outcomes and, on the other hand, the computer applications of the information management model were developed, namely a relational Database and an Ontology.
