ALICE is one of four major experiments of particle accelerator LHC installed in the European laboratory CERN. The management committee of the LHC accelerator has just approved a program update for this experiment. Among the upgrades planned for the coming years of the ALICE experiment is to improve the resolution and tracking efficiency maintaining the excellent particles identification ability, and to increase the read-out event rate to 100 KHz. In order to achieve this, it is necessary to update the Time Projection Chamber detector (TPC) and Muon tracking (MCH) detector modifying the read-out electronics, which is not suitable for this migration. To overcome this limitation the design, fabrication and experimental test of new ASIC named SAMPA has been proposed . This ASIC will support both positive and negative polarities, with 32 channels per chip and continuous data readout with smaller power consumption than the previous versions. This work aims to design, fabrication and experimental test of a readout front-end in 130nm CMOS technology with configurable polarity (positive/negative), peaking time and sensitivity. The new SAMPA ASIC can be used in both chambers (TPC and MCH). The proposed front-end is composed of a Charge Sensitive Amplifier (CSA) and a Semi-Gaussian shaper. In order to obtain an ASIC integrating 32 channels per chip, the design of the proposed front-end requires small area and low power consumption, but at the same time requires low noise. In this sense, a new Noise and PSRR (Power Supply Rejection Ratio) improvement technique for the CSA design without power and area impact is proposed in this work. The analysis and equations of the proposed circuit are presented which were verified by electrical simulations and experimental test of a produced chip with 5 channels of the designed front-end. The measured equivalent noise charge was <550e for 30mV/fC of sensitivity at a input capacitance of 18.5pF. The total core area of the front-end was 2300?m × 150?m, and the measured total power consumption was 9.1mW per channel.

Wyoming has multiple resources including non-renewable sources, renewable sources, as well as its wildlife. Two of these resources are uranium and wind. Currently wind farms in Wyoming are generating approximately 5 million MW of power, with less of an impact on wildlife than in-situ facilities. In-situ facilities in 2007 produced an estimated 32 million MW of power from uranium, with a greater impact to wildlife than wind farms. Both resources have a great potential in Wyoming and both will have an impact on wildlife. Currently wind farms show less of an impact on wildlife but they are also producing fewer megawatts. The potential for wind-generated energy over the next century shows wildlife impacts will be greater than impacts from ISR facilities.

In this paper we present the enrichment of the Integration of Semantic Resources based in WordNet (ISR-WN Enriched). This new proposal improves the previous one where several semantic resources such as SUMO, WordNet Domains and WordNet Affects were related, adding other semantic resources such as Semantic Classes and SentiWordNet. Firstly, the paper describes the architecture of this proposal explaining the particularities of each integrated resource. After that, we analyze some problems related to the mappings of different versions and how we solve them. Moreover, we show the advantages that this kind of tool can provide to different applications of Natural Language Processing. Related to that question, we can demonstrate that the integration of semantic resources allows acquiring a multidimensional vision in the analysis of natural language.

Almost 20 years after the first conceptual design of the experiment, five years of running in the Gran Sasso underground laboratory (LNGS), and billions of billions muon-neutrinos sent from CERN along the CNGS beam, in 2015 the OPERA neutrino detector has allowed the long-awaited discovery of the direct transformation (oscillation) of muon-neutrinos into tau-neutrinos. This result unambiguously confirms the interpretation of the so-called atmospheric channel, after the discovery of neutrino oscillations by the Super-Kamiokande Collaboration in 1998.

Inclusive production of Λ-hyperons was measured with the large acceptance NA61/SHINE spectrometer at the CERN SPS in inelastic p+p interactions at beam momentum of 158 GeV/c. Spectra of transverse momentum and transverse mass as well as distributions of rapidity and xF are presented. The mean multiplicity was estimated to be 0.120 ± 0.006 (stat.) ± 0.010 (sys.). The results are compared with previous measurements and predictions of the EPOS, UrQMD and FRITIOF models.

Dannie Jost gave an introductory presentation on the emergence on open hardware phenomena, including synthetic biology and other technological environments at the HEPTech Workshop on Open Hardware on June 13 held at the GSI, Darmstadt (Germany). The workshop was organized by CERN and GSI. This event addressed the OSHW phenomenon and its implications for academia and industry with special attention to knowledge and technology transfer issues. Consideration was given to the various aspects of open source hardware development, and how these are dealt with in academia and industry. Presentations from legal experts, academics, practitioners and business provided input for the discussions and exchange of ideas.
