"Hollis Catalogue," 1787

This self-titled "Hollis catalogue" appears to have been compiled by a librarian in 1787. It is arranged alphabetically and possibly lists titles acquired through the endowed fund for the purchase of books created after Hollis's death in 1774, as most titles in the list were published between 1774 and 1787.

Annotated almanac, 1787

Almanac interleaved with pages containing household account entries and containing annotations on the calendar pages. The interleaved pages contain entries of baptisms and burials, accounting records, and notes of household activities and accounts, including entries related to boarders and a list of clothing and shoes purchased.

Power of Attorney, [?] Wellington for Thomas Durant, Sept. 22, 1787

Signed by Thomas Durant and witnessed by Ebenezer Bradish. It is possible that Shapleigh used this document as a guide when drafting his own power of attorney documents.

Letter from Artemas Ward to Benjamin Stone, 1787 July 18

Artemas Ward wrote this letter to Benjamin Stone on July 18, 1787, expressing his concern about the expense of his son, Henry Dana Ward's, imminent studies at Harvard. Ward complains to Stone about his own debts and the failure of the government to honor their financial obligations to him, and he also expresses hope that the President of Harvard will allow his son to spend part of his time "keeping a school" during his freshman and sophomore years, thus earning an income sufficient to pay for his studies. Ward also suggests that it might be preferable that his son board with a respectable family, rather than live at the College.
