Questioning the merits and demerits of electronic communication in Social Work

This paper examines the social dynamics of electronic exchanges in the human services, particularly in social work. It focuses on the observable effects that email and texting have on the linguistic, relational and clinical rather than managerial aspects of the profession. It highlights how electronic communication is affecting professionals in their practice and learners as they become acculturated to social work. What are the gains and losses of the broad use of electronic devices in daily lay and professional, verbal and non-verbal communication? Will our current situation be seriously detrimental to the demeanor of future practitioners, their use of language, and their ability to establish close personal relationships? The paper analyzes social work linguistic and behavioral changes in light of the growth of electronic communication and offers a summary of merits and demerits viewed through a prism emerging from Baron’s (2000) analysis of human communication.

La información, un recurso en alza: El futuro de la documentación en los museos

La información es un recurso trascendental en las economías actuales y los museos empiezan a darse cuenta de la importancia de difundir el conocimiento de sus colecciones a través del potente canal de comunicación que es la web. El saber acumulado por años de investigación, trasmitido mediante publicaciones en papel, empieza a fluir a través de la red, acercando al museo a los miles de usuarios que no van a poder visitarlo físicamente. El desprendimiento generoso de esa información tiene su lógica en el modelo del “potlatch digital”, en el que la visibilidad de la información hace aumentar su valor y proporciona prestigio a la institución que la ha puesto en circulación sin restricciones. El futuro de los servicios documentales de los museos, incluidas las bibliotecas y los archivos, está en facilitar esa apertura, pensar y trabajar para la comunidad global, obteniendo así su reconocimiento.

Biografía inédita de Francisco de Quintana: recuperación de un novelista olvidado

Este artículo pretende desvelar datos inéditos de Francisco de Quintana, escritor del seiscientos escasamente estudiado por la crítica literaria hasta nuestros días. La investigación, a partir tanto de fuentes primarias como de su obra literaria, ha supuesto el hallazgo de información sustancial sobre este íntimo amigo de Lope de Vega. Además de aportar nuevos testimonios biográficos, esta comunicación interrelaciona acontecimientos fundamentales de su vida con su obra literaria.

The Devil and Views on the “Other” in Part One of Pedro Cieza de León’s "Crónica del Perú" (1553)

Many 16th century Spanish chroniclers and missionaries, arriving at what they interpreted as a New World, saw the Devil as a “hermeneutic wildcard” that allowed them to comprehend indigenous religions. Pedro Cieza de León, a soldier in the conquest of Peru, is a case in point. Cieza considers the Devil responsible for the most aberrant religious practices and customs of the Indians, although he views the natives in a positive light, as men susceptible to divine salvation. From a providentialist perspective of the history of the conquest, Cieza interprets that the evangelization and conversion of the Indians and the implantation of Christian civilization by the Spanish Crown, were able to defeat the Devil.

Imperative, subjunctive, and the desiderative-appellative space in Spanish

After defining the “enunciative scheme” (sentence type) as a communicative unit, the imperative is characterized as a morphologized modality of appellative kind used when the following conditions occur: appellative meaning, 2nd person, future tense and absence of negation. In Spanish, any variation of any of these requirements determines that the subjunctive is used. We reject the idea that the imperative is a variant of subjunctive specialized in appellative function and that both modes share a desiderative morpheme. Working in this way means attributing to a morphological category of the verb a property that actually corresponds to the enunciative schemes (sentence types). We propose to integrate the imperative and subjunctive in the framework of what we call the “desiderative-appellative space”. This “space” brings together various grammatical or grammaticalized means based on the imperative and the subjunctive. Semantically, it is organized around a component of desirability (action appears as desirable) that, by varying several factors, configures a route that goes from a center (the imperative) to a periphery (the expression of desire).

El carácter compilatorio del ms. 126 del Archivo Capitular de El Burgo de Osma

En este trabajo se aborda el estudio de aquellos aspectos que nos llevan a considerar al ms. 126 del Archivo Capitular de El Burgo de Osma un códice compilatorio: por una parte, la identificación de las fuentes de las que beben dos de sus glosas de contenido mitológico y, por otra, el análisis de la estructura del códice en su conjunto y de la relación entre las obras que lo componen.

Desarrollo de un módulo TDABC, aplicado al Centro de Docuemntación Regional Juan Bautista Vázquez

En los últimos años el presupuesto de las bibliotecas a nivel general se ha mantenido o inclusive ha tendido a disminuir, por lo que éstas se ven obligadas a operar con esos fondos decrecientes. Por otro lado, los costos de los servicios son cada vez más altos, haciendo que las bibliotecas deban adaptarse al nuevo entorno, tratando de limitar sus gastos. Para mejorar la gestión de la biblioteca adaptándose al presupuesto asignado es necesario conocer el costo real de sus procesos, así se puede tomar decisiones para mejorar o incrementar los servicios prestados. Para solventar este problema existen varias técnicas para la gestión de costos, y uno de los más avanzados al momento descrito en esta tesis es el Costeo Basado en Actividades manejadas por Tiempo (TD-ABC). Este modelo nos proporciona información esencial de las funciones de la biblioteca, nos ayuda a comprender los factores de costo relevantes así como el mejorar la asignación presupuestaria. El presente trabajo de titulación tiene como objetivo el desarrollo de un módulo que aplique la metodología TD-ABC para el manejo de procesos, el mismo que ha sido implementado siguiendo la misma estructura del sistema de Automatización de Bibliotecas y Centros de Documentación (ABCD) que se encuentra funcionando en el Centro de Documentación Regional "Juan Bautista Vázquez" (CDRJBV). El módulo de TD-ABC ha sido desarrollado bajo plataforma de Software Libre, utilizando el lenguaje PHP y base de datos MYSQL, además de herramientas para el desarrollo web HTML, CSS, AJAX, JAVASCRIPT y API GOOGLE.

BIO-BIBLIOGRAPHY OF (AS) Benefactors (AS) OF THE COUNTRY AND CITIZENS (AS) 1847-2008 HONOR

Today's society called information society, grows rapidly and undergoes changes in the sources of information under the Information Technology and Communication ("tics"), in this situation it is necessary to develop tools or reference sources that allow the (to) user (a) the accessibility and use of information. It systematized information on the Meritorious Citizen of the Fatherland and Honor that is Costa Rica, since 1847 to 2008, due to its contribution to culture, science, recreation, among others. The overall objective of this research was to make a work print and digital reference, which will collect each of the biographies and works written by (as) Benefactors (as) of the country and citizens (as) of Honor and to facilitate access to information and strengthen outreach conducted by the Library "Victor Manuel Sanabria Martínez" of the Legislature, through its publications, exhibitions and related activities, to publicize its documentary. The variables used for this investigation were:-sources (primary and secondary), Organization of information - tools in various documentation centers and libraries. This was carried out a questionnaire, which was structured in the Excel program, aimed at (as) directors (as) or officers (as) in different libraries and documentation centers, and visits to selected sites for search and selection information. It is important to spread this final graduation in different public and school libraries in the country, since history and culture rescues national, who gave identity to the Costa Rican people. The systematization made by a thematic CD-ROM, provide accessibility to all (as) the (as) citizens (as) who access the Internet through the website of the Legislative Assembly Library and other state institutions wishing through a hyperlink on your "web", to refer the same.

El avance en las tecnologías de la comunicación e información han rediseñado los escenarios del ser humano y el modo de funcionar el mundo. Los procesos son más sencillos, inmediatos y globales, pero ameritan de conocimiento, de destrezas y de tecnologías.Unas décadas atrás, cuando Vannaver Bush ideó el ME MEX, era difícil de conceptuar, ese acceso casi ilimitado entre dos puntos militares internacionales. Más tarde, Jorge Luis Borges soñó la Biblioteca Global, a la cual se ingresa a través de puertas hexagonales y en la cual fluye el saber universal. Todos estos acontecimientos, que son realidades hoy, serían cuentos de duendes y hasta herejías para los monjes que custodiaban las bibliotecas en la Edad Media. Cómo imaginar el acceso inmediato a colecciones antiguas y modernas de otras bibliotecas y de otros países desde un solo ingreso?.
