Evaluation of skin hydration after exposition to the aqueous and hydroalcoholic bases and silicone emulsion

Several dermocosmetic bases even without active substances, can increase the cutaneous hydration, resulting in a beneficial effect to the skin. The evidence and interpretation of possible hydration effect of formulations in the skin can be carried through by means of histopathological and histomorphometrical evaluation, a time that allows the analysis of the epithelial tissue, of dermis and also of the cellular characteristics. The objective of this research was to evaluate the skin hydration after exposition to the aqueous and hydroalcoholic bases and silicone emulsion. Swines had areas submitted to treatments during 15 days with three different formulations (F1 - aqueous gel, F2 - hydroalcoholic gel and F3 - silicone emulsion). By means of histometric and histopathological techniques were gotten the thickness of the epidermis and stratum corneum. Comparison of means was done using ANOVA followed by the Tukey test. The F1 provoked significant increase in the thickness of the epidermis. The formulaton F2 provoked significant reduction in the thickness of the epidermis and stratum corneum. F3 not presented significant difference in this structures. According to the study, the type of base chosen intervenes with the skin hydration.

Estilo e linguagem na recepção crítica de “Grande sertão: veredas”

Este estudo pretende examinar a recepção crítica voltada para a análise dos aspectos estilísticos e linguísticos da obra de João Guimarães Rosa (1908-1967). Na década de 1950, durante seu auge, a teoria estilística, principalmente a de origem espanhola, exerceu grande influência sobre crítica literária brasileira. Este evento coincidiu com o impacto do lançamento de duas das mais importantes obras do ficcionista mineiro, Grande sertão: veredas (1956) e Corpo de baile (1956), em grande parte devido à linguagem, que é um amálgama de popular e erudito e detentora de grande poder de sugestão. Como fruto deste acaso, no mesmo horizonte da obra, surgiram os estudos que formaram a primeira recepção e, entre estes, os que se dedicaram a analisar os diferentes recursos utilizados por Guimarães Rosa para compor o seu sertão-linguagem, o que justifica a adoção da Estilística como método. Inseridos nesta corrente crítica estão os trabalhos que nos servirão de objeto de análise, a exemplo da crítica pioneira de Cavalcanti Proença (1905-1966), Trilhas no Grande Sertão (1958), e de trabalhos de outros estudiosos, como Oswaldino Marques (1916-2003), sobre Sagarana e outras publicações dispersas, e da professora norte-americana Mary L. Daniel (1936). Estes estudos, embora sejam discutíveis do ponto de vista metodológico, conforme será observado, tornaram-se peças incontornáveis dentro da fortuna crítica rosiana por sua contribuição à elucidação da obra. Um indicativo disso é a existência de trabalhos mais recentes que ainda ventilam categorias consideradas pela Estilística como o léxico, que surge em estudos de Nei Leandro de Castro e Nilce Sant'Anna Martins. Como método utilizado nesta dissertação de Mestrado, lança-se mão da hermenêutica literária formulada por Hans Robert Jauss (1921-1997) com o objetivo de analisar a recepção crítica de uma abordagem específica, a Estilística, e destacar sua relevância para a compreensão da obra de Guimarães Rosa no período imediato à publicação, assim como propor uma confrontação desta recepção com estudos posteriores que se balizam no mesmo campo de análise. Igualmente, objetiva-se evidenciar a importância do leitor para a (res) significação do material ficcional, aqui representado pelo crítico literário, um leitor diferenciado capaz de oferecer propostas interpretativas e guiar a leitura dos leitores comuns.

EGHEP-ISFG collaborative exercise on mixture profiles of autosomal STRs (GHEP-MIX01, GHEP-MIX02 and GHEP-MIX03): Results and evaluation

One of the main objectives of the Spanish and Portuguese-Speaking Group of the International Society for Forensic Genetics (GHEP-ISFG) is to promote and contribute to the development and dissemination of scientific knowledge in the area of forensic genetics. Due to this fact, GHEP-ISFG holds different working commissions that are set up to develop activities in scientific aspects of general interest. One of them, the Mixture Commission of GHEP-ISFG, has organized annually, since 2009, a collaborative exercise on analysis and interpretation of autosomal short tandem repeat (STR) mixture profiles. Until now, three exercises have been organized (GHEP-MIX01, GHEP-MIX02 and GHEP-MIX03), with 32, 24 and 17 participant laboratories respectively. The exercise aims to give a general vision by addressing, through the proposal of mock cases, aspects related to the edition of mixture profiles and the statistical treatment. The main conclusions obtained from these exercises may be summarized as follows. Firstly, the data show an increased tendency of the laboratories toward validation of DNA mixture profiles analysis following international recommendations (ISO/IEC 17025: 2005). Secondly, the majority of discrepancies are mainly encountered in stutters positions (53.4%, 96.0% and 74.9%, respectively for the three editions). On the other hand, the results submitted reveal the importance of performing duplicate analysis by using different kits in order to reduce errors as much as possible. Regarding the statistical aspect (GHEP-MIX02 and 03), all participants employed the likelihood ratio (LR) parameter to evaluate the statistical compatibility and the formulas employed were quite similar. When the hypotheses to evaluate the LR value were locked by the coordinators (GHEP-MIX02) the results revealed a minor number of discrepancies that were mainly due to clerical reasons. However, the GHEP-MIX03 exercise allowed the participants to freely come up with their own hypotheses to calculate the LR value. In this situation the laboratories reported several options to explain the mock cases proposed and therefore significant differences between the final LR values were obtained. Complete information concerning the background of the criminal case is a critical aspect in order to select the adequate hypotheses to calculate the LR value. Although this should be a task for the judicial court to decide, it is important for the expert to account for the different possibilities and scenarios, and also offer this expertise to the judge. In addition, continuing education in the analysis and interpretation of mixture DNA profiles may also be a priority for the vast majority of forensic laboratories. (C) 2014 Elsevier Ireland Ltd. Eça de Queirós na Gazeta de Notícias (Rio de Janeiro): a função social do jornal

There will be a review on the collaboration of Eça de Queirós in Gazeta de Notícias (Rio de Janeiro-1880-1897), written directly to the Brazilian public. In some of these texts Eça makes reflections on the mediation that the newspaper plays in society, particularly in southern Europe. We believe that in these texts there are manifestations and traits of doctrinal-programmatic nature, metalitterary aspects and also a kind of history of occidental press. These press texts are now gathered in Textos de Imprensa IV – da Gazeta de Notícias, which includes the volume critical edition of the works of Eça de Queirós, coordinated by Carlos Reis. The study of these texts will contribute to the analysis and interpretation of his fiction and journalistic works.
