In a power network, when a propagation energy wave caused by a disturbance hits a weak link, a reflection is appeared and some of energy is transferred across the link. In this work, an analytical descriptive methodology is proposed to study the dynamical stability of a large scale power system. For this purpose, the measured electrical indices (angle, or voltage/frequency) following a fault in different points among the network are used, and the behaviors of the propagated waves through the lines, nodes and buses are studied. This work addresses a new tool for power system stability analysis based on a descriptive study of electrical measurements. The proposed methodology is also useful to detect the contingency condition and synthesis of an effective emergency control scheme.

The arsenite minerals finnemanite Pb5(As3+O3)3Cl been studied by Raman spectroscopy. The most intense Raman band at 871 cm-1 is assigned to the ν1 (AsO3)3- symmetric stretching vibration. Three Raman bands at 898, 908 and 947 cm-1 are assigned to the ν3 (AsO3)3- antisymmetric stretching vibration. The observation of multiple antisymmetric stretching vibrations suggest that the (AsO3)3- units are not equivalent in the molecular structure of finnemanite. Two Raman bands at 383 and 399 cm-1 are assigned to the ν2 (AsO3)3- bending modes. DFT calculations enabled the position of AsO32- symmetric stretching mode at 839 cm-1, the antisymmetric stretching mode at 813 cm-1, and the deformation mode at 449 cm-1 to be calculated. Raman bands are observed at 115, 145, 162, 176, 192, 216 and 234 cm-1 as well. The two most intense bands are observed at 176 and 192 cm-1. These bands are assigned to PbCl stretching vibrations and result from transverse/ longitudinal splitting. The bands at 145 and 162 cm-1 may be assigned to Cl-Pb-Cl bending modes.

The selected arsenite minerals leiteite, reinerite and cafarsite have been studied by Raman spectroscopy. DFT calculations enabled the position of AsO22- symmetric stretching mode at 839 cm-1, the antisymmetric stretching mode at 813 cm-1, and the deformation mode at 449 cm-1 to be calculated. The Raman spectrum of leiteite shows bands at 804 and 763 cm-1 assigned to the As2O42- symmetric and antisymmetric stretching modes. The most intense Raman band of leiteite is the band at 457 cm-1 and is assigned to the ν2 As2O42- bending mode. A comparison of the Raman spectrum of leiteite is made with the arsenite minerals reinerite and cafarsite.

Raman spectra of mineral peretaite Ca(SbO)4(OH)2(SO4)2•2H2O were studied, and related to the structure of the mineral. Raman bands observed at 978 and 980 cm-1 and a series of overlapping bands observed at 1060, 1092, 1115, 1142 and 1152 cm-1 are assigned to the SO42- ν1 symmetric and ν3 antisymmetric stretching modes. Raman bands at 589 and 595 cm-1 are attributed to the SbO symmetric stretching vibrations. The low intensity Raman bands at 650 and 710 cm-1 may be attributed to SbO antisymmetric stretching modes. Raman bands at 610 cm-1 and at 417, 434 and 482 cm-1 are assigned to the SO42- 4 and 2 bending modes, respectively. Raman bands at 337 and 373 cm-1 are assigned to O-Sb-O bending modes. Multiple Raman bands for both SO42- and SbO stretching vibrations support the concept of the non-equivalence of these units in the coquandite structure.

Raman spectroscopy of the mineral partzite Cu2Sb2(O,OH)7 complimented with infrared spectroscopy were studied and related to the structure of the mineral. The Raman spectrum shows some considerable complexity with a number of overlapping bands observed at 479, 520, 594, 607 and 620 cm-1 with additional low intensity bands found at 675, 730, 777 and 837 cm-1. Raman bands of partzite in the spectral region 590 to 675 cm-1 are attributable the ν1 symmetric stretching modes. The Raman bands at 479 and 520 cm-1 are assigned to the ν3 antisymmetric stretching modes. Raman bands at 1396 and 1455 cm-1 are attributed to SbOH deformation modes. A complex pattern resulting from the overlapping band of the water and OH units is found. Raman bands are observed at 3266, 3376, 3407, 3563, 3586 and 3622 cm-1. The first three bands are assigned to water stretching vibrations. The three higher wavenumber bands are assigned to the stretching vibrations of the OH units. It is proposed that based upon observation of the Raman spectra that water is involved in the structure of partzite. Thus the formula Cu2Sb2(O,OH)7 may be better written as Cu2Sb2(O,OH)7 •xH2O

The use of Intra-aortic counterpulsation is a well established supportive therapy for patients in cardiac failure or after cardiac surgery. Blood pressure variations induced by counterpulsation are transmitted to the cerebral arteries, challenging cerebral autoregulatory mechanisms in order to maintain a stable cerebral blood flow. This study aims to assess the effects on cerebral autoregulation and variability of cerebral blood flow due to intra-aortic balloon pump and inflation ratio weaning.

Background: Incidence and mortality from skin cancers including melanoma are highest among men 50 years or older. Thorough skin self-examination may be beneficial to improve skin cancers outcomes.--------- Objectives: To develop and conduct a randomized-controlled trial of a video-based intervention to improve skin self-examination behavior among men 50 years or older.--------- Methods: Pilot work ascertained appropriate targeting of the 12-minute intervention video towards men 50 years or older. Overall, 968 men were recruited and 929 completed baseline telephone assessment. Baseline analysis assessed randomization balance and demographic, skin cancer risk and attitudinal factors associated with conducting a whole-body skin self-examination or receiving a whole-body clinical skin examination by a doctor during the past 12 months.--------- Results: Randomization resulted in well-balanced intervention and control groups. Overall 13% of men reported conducting a thorough skin self-examination using a mirror or the help of another person to check difficult to see areas, while 39% reported having received a whole-body skin examination by a doctor within the past 12 months. Confidence in finding time for and receiving advice or instructions by a doctor to perform a skin self-examination were among the factors associated with thorough skin self-examination at baseline.---------- Conclusions: Men 50 years or older can successfully be recruited to a video-based intervention trial with the aim reduce their burden through skin cancer. Randomization by computer generated randomization list resulted in good balance between control and intervention group and baseline analysis determined factors associated with skin cancer early detection behavior at baseline.

The mixed anion mineral dixenite has been studied by Raman spectroscopy, complimented with infrared spectroscopy. The Raman spectrum of dixenite shows bands at 839 and 813 cm-1 assigned to the (AsO3)3- symmetric and antisymmetric stretching modes. The most intense Raman band of dixenite is the band at 526 cm-1 and is assigned to the ν2 AsO33- bending mode. DFT calculations enabled the position of AsO22- symmetric stretching mode at 839 cm-1, the antisymmetric stretching mode at 813 cm-1, and the deformation mode at 449 cm-1 to be calculated. Raman bands at 1026 and 1057 cm-1 are assigned to the SiO42- symmetric stretching vibrations and at 1349 and 1386 cm-1 to the SiO42- antisymmetric stretching vibrations. Both Raman and infrared spectra indicate the presence of water in the structure of dixenite. This brings into question the commonly accepted formula of dixenite as CuMn2+14Fe3+(AsO3)5(SiO4)2(AsO4)(OH)6. The formula may be better written as CuMn2+14Fe3+(AsO3)5(SiO4)2(AsO4)(OH)6•xH2O.

Raman and infrared spectroscopies were used to characterise two samples of triclinic ejkaite Na4[UO2(CO3)3] and its synthetic trigonal analogue. The v3 (UO2)2+ mode is not Raman active, whereas both the v3 and v1 (UO2)2+ modes are infrared active. U--O bond lengths in uranyls were calculated from the spectra obtained and compared with bond lengths derived from crystal structure analyses. From the higher number of bands related to the uranyl and carbonate vibrations, the presence of symmetrically distinct (UO2)2+ and (CO3)2- units in both structures is proposed.

The case study of Lusoponte illustrates the concession awarded by the Portuguese Government to finance, design, build and operate two bridges over the Tagus in Lisbon, Portugal. It includes an overview of the project's background and an analysis of the main risk categories stating both the actual risks encountered and the mitigation measures adopted. Throughout the project a great attention was given to whole life cycle costs, and gains in efficiency and cost control. Among the lessons that can be learned from both the public and private sector is that a complete risk management analysis must include not only the technical factors but also a realistic assessment of environmental and social risks. These were the risks that were somewhat overseen and that caused the main problems to the project's development.

Thermal analysis and differential thermal analysis offers a means of studying the desorption of acids such as stearic acid from clay surfaces. Both adsorption and chemisorption can be distinguished through the differences in the temperature of the mass losses. Increased adsorption is achievable by adsorbing onto a surfactant adsorbed montmorillonite. Stearic acid sublimes at 179 °C but when adsorbed upon montmorillonite sublimes at 207 and 248 °C. These mass loss steps are ascribed to the desorption of the stearic acid on the external surfaces of the organoclays and from the de-chemisorption from the surfactant held in the interlayer of the montmorillonite.

A television series is tagged with the label "cult" by the media, advertisers, and network executives when it is considered edgy or offbeat, when it appeals to nostalgia, or when it is considered emblematic of a particular subculture. By these criteria, almost any series could be described as cult. Yet certain programs exert an uncanny power over their fans, encouraging them to immerse themselves within a fictional world. In Cult Television leading scholars examine such shows as The X-Files; The Avengers; Doctor Who, Babylon Five; Star Trek; Xena, Warrior Princess; and Buffy the Vampire Slayer to determine the defining characteristics of cult television and map the contours of this phenomenon within the larger scope of popular culture.Contributors: Karen Backstein; David A. Building project management requires effective coordination and collaboration between multiple project members. It can be achieved through real time communication flow between all. In present scenario, it can be achieved through adoption of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). Construction industry primarily comprises small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Also, ICT adoption has been slow in the industry.---------- Research is required to assess the factors that affect ICT adoption at the three levels of industry, organization and people, with focus on SMEs. This paper discusses a component of the research undertaken to study these factors and issues in the context of Indian construction industry. A questionnaire survey was conducted and through quantitative data analysis the extent of adoption of formal Project Management processes, ICT adoption for these processes and factors including perception based factors affecting ICT adoption were studied. Results of data analysis includes identification of issues that require action at the three study levels.---------- The results can be generalized for other countries with due considerations, specifically for countries where the construction industry is similar to Indian construction industry in terms of working methodologies or for large countries.
