O Ministério da Saúde, em parceria com o Ministério da Educação, em 2002, criou o Programa de Incentivo a Mudanças Curriculares nos Cursos de Medicina (Promed), com o objetivo de apoiar financeiramente a escola médica que elaborasse e implantasse as mudanças curriculares nos cursos de Medicina na direção proposta pelas Diretrizes Curriculares Nacionais (DCN), sob três eixos: orientação teórica, cenários de práticas e abordagem pedagógica. O objetivo deste estudo é identificar mudanças curriculares ocorridas nas escolas médicas contempladas com o Promed. Foi elaborado e aplicado um questionário aos coordenadores do Promed, sendo os dados submetidos a uma análise descritiva. Observou-se que 12 escolas implantaram um modelo curricular modular como base. A inserção ensino-serviço na atenção primária exige um esforço político gerencial. Também é preciso haver mudanças nas concepções acadêmicas e preparar a rede de saúde como campo de estágio, já que as mudanças nas grandes áreas da atenção básica ainda têm pouca expressão. Está havendo uma mudança de estrutura, embora não se possa dizer que seja significativa no grau que se deseja atingir.

O ensino presencial nos cursos de graduação continua sendo o foco do ensino e da aprendizagem. Com o advento de novas tecnologias de ensino, algumas ferramentas têm sido utilizadas como reforço ao ensino presencial. A plataforma Moodle (Modular Object Oriented Distance Learning) tem sido uma das mais empregadas nas instituições de ensino. Este estudo avaliou a relação do ensino presencial com o uso do Moodle institucional na disciplina de Parasitologia e Micologia Médica do curso de Medicina da Universidade Federal de Ciências da Saúde de Porto Alegre (UFCSPA). Como reforço a esta atividade, a página da disciplina cadastrada no sistema Moodle disponibilizou casos clínicos para que os alunos realizassem o diagnóstico. Além disso, foram apresentadas outras informações complementares para o ensino presencial. A metodologia buscou exercitar os instrumentos de aprendizagem que o sistema Moodle oferece, como o link a um arquivo ou site, os fóruns de discussão, a ferramenta questionário e o chat. Como o Moodle é institucional, nele está disponível a página da disciplina, onde passaram a constar todas as informações referentes à mesma, bem como as atividades extraclasse

Apresenta-se o desenvolvimento de uma disciplina em Humanidades Médicas. Objetivou-se examinar contribuições conceituais e práticas do conhecimento humanístico tendo por base o cuidado em saúde. A disciplina foi estruturada em quatro módulos inter-relacionados, correspondentes a áreas particulares do conhecimento humanístico: Filosofia, História, Socioantropologia e Psicodinâmica do Encontro Clínico. São apresentadas as diferentes estratégias didático-pedagógicas utilizadas, os conteúdos programáticos particulares a cada módulo e suas inter-relações, e os impactos produzidos nos alunos, nos próprios docentes e no desenho disciplinar. O exame dessa experiência mostrou que a disciplina conseguiu desenvolver tanto as particularidades quanto a integração entre os módulos, segundo a percepção dos docentes e alunos. Depois da primeira turma, houve reformulação de temas de aulas e metodologias, mas se reafirmou a estratégia modular e a escolha de pesquisadores especializados nos conteúdos particulares como equipe docente, permitindo ganhos de conhecimentos relativos à conceituação do cuidado do ponto de vista da integralidade em saúde. Conclui-se que o desenho da disciplina se mostrou adequado aos objetivos educacionais propostos, reforçando a relevância das Humanidades para o currículo da escola médica.

Viilunkuivaus vaneriteollisuudessa on energiaintensiivinen prosessi, josta syntyvä hukkalämpö kannattaa ottaa talteen ja hyödyntää. Työ käsittelee erilaisten lämmöntalteenottovariaatioiden tuotteistusta ja kannattavuutta, sekä sisältää laitteiston riskianalyysin. Aiemman asiakaskohtaisen räätälöinnin sijaan, laitteiston modulaarinen tuoterakenne on otettava tuotteistuksen lähtökohdaksi. Modulaarisen tuoterakenteen ansiosta erilaisiin asiakastarpeisiin pystytään vastaamaan aiempaa tehokkaammin, kiitos erilaisten variaatioiden. Standardien ja yhtenäisten rajapintojen myötä muun muassa suunnittelua, projektinhoito ja myyntiä saadaan tehostettua. Lämmöntalteenottoratkaisuille luodaan kolme eri varustelutasoa: perus, korkea ja luksus. Näillä eri varianteilla pystytään vastamaan entistä kattavammin eri markkina-alueiden asiakastarpeisiin. Kannattavuuslaskelmat todistavat, että lämmöntalteenoton avulla saadaan merkittäviä energiasäästöjä ja eri laitteistovariaatiot maksavat itsensä erittäin nopeasti takaisin, vaikka esimerkiksi sähköenergian hinta nousisi radikaalisti. Lämmöntalteenoton voidaankin katsoa olevan aina erittäin kannattavaa. Laitteistosta on tunnistettu myös tekniset riskit, joihin on puututtava välittömästi sekä lukuisia toimenpide-ehdotuksia, joiden avulla laitteiston tuomintaa voidaan tehostaa ja muuttaa turvallisemmaksi. Riskianalyysi antaa myös suuntaviivoja tuotteistukselle sekä laitteiston huolto- ja käyttöohjeistolle.

A company’s competence to manage its product portfolio complexity is becoming critically important in the rapidly changing business environment. The continuous evolvement of customer needs, the competitive market environment and internal product development lead to increasing complexity in product portfolios. The companies that manage the complexity in product development are more profitable in the long run. The complexity derives from product development and management processes where the new product variant development is not managed efficiently. Complexity is managed with modularization which is a method that divides the product structure into modules. In modularization, it is essential to take into account the trade-off between the perceived customer value and the module or component commonality across the products. Another goal is to enable the product configuration to be more flexible. The benefits are achieved through optimizing complexity in module offering and deriving the new product variants more flexibly and accurately. The developed modularization process includes the process steps for preparation, mapping the current situation, the creation of a modular strategy and implementing the strategy. Also the organization and support systems have to be adapted to follow-up targets and to execute modularization in practice.

This PhD thesis in Mathematics belongs to the field of Geometric Function Theory. The thesis consists of four original papers. The topic studied deals with quasiconformal mappings and their distortion theory in Euclidean n-dimensional spaces. This theory has its roots in the pioneering papers of F. W. Gehring and J. Väisälä published in the early 1960’s and it has been studied by many mathematicians thereafter. In the first paper we refine the known bounds for the so-called Mori constant and also estimate the distortion in the hyperbolic metric. The second paper deals with radial functions which are simple examples of quasiconformal mappings. These radial functions lead us to the study of the so-called p-angular distance which has been studied recently e.g. by L. Maligranda and S. Dragomir. In the third paper we study a class of functions of a real variable studied by P. Lindqvist in an influential paper. This leads one to study parametrized analogues of classical trigonometric and hyperbolic functions which for the parameter value p = 2 coincide with the classical functions. Gaussian hypergeometric functions have an important role in the study of these special functions. Several new inequalities and identities involving p-analogues of these functions are also given. In the fourth paper we study the generalized complete elliptic integrals, modular functions and some related functions. We find the upper and lower bounds of these functions, and those bounds are given in a simple form. This theory has a long history which goes back two centuries and includes names such as A. M. Legendre, C. Jacobi, C. F. Gauss. Modular functions also occur in the study of quasiconformal mappings. Conformal invariants, such as the modulus of a curve family, are often applied in quasiconformal mapping theory. The invariants can be sometimes expressed in terms of special conformal mappings. This fact explains why special functions often occur in this theory.

Diplomityön tavoitteena on kehittää kohdeyrityksen tuotantoa tehokkaammaksi ja joustavammaksi moduloinnin ja konfiguroinnin avulla. Työssä kuvataan yhtenäinen prosessi konfiguroinnin ja moduloinnin käyttämiselle. Teoriaosuudessa käsitellään ensin prosessien määrittämiseen ja niiden uudistamiseen liittyviä aiheita. Sen jälkeen käsitellään massaräätälöinnin, moduloinnin ja konfiguroinnin käsitteitä ja niiden vaikutuksia yrityksen toimintaan. Lisäksi esitellään prosessi, jonka avulla tuotteen modulointi ja konfigurointi voidaan toteuttaa. Empiriaosio alkaa yrityksen prosessien määrittämisellä. Prosessien määrittämisen jälkeen esitellään esimerkkejä kuinka tuotteen modulointi ja konfigurointi voidaan suorittaa. Lopuksi arvioidaan mahdollisia hyötyjä, joita konfiguroinnin ja moduloinnin käyttäminen voisi tuoda.

Traditionally simulators have been used extensively in robotics to develop robotic systems without the need to build expensive hardware. However, simulators can be also be used as a “memory”for a robot. This allows the robot to try out actions in simulation before executing them for real. The key obstacle to this approach is an uncertainty of knowledge about the environment. The goal of the Master’s Thesis work was to develop a method, which allows updating the simulation model based on actual measurements to achieve a success of the planned task. OpenRAVE was chosen as an experimental simulation environment on planning,trial and update stages. Steepest Descent algorithm in conjunction with Golden Section search procedure form the principle part of optimization process. During experiments, the properties of the proposed method, such as sensitivity to different parameters, including gradient and error function, were examined. The limitations of the approach were established, based on analyzing the regions of convergence.

As technology geometries have shrunk to the deep submicron regime, the communication delay and power consumption of global interconnections in high performance Multi- Processor Systems-on-Chip (MPSoCs) are becoming a major bottleneck. The Network-on- Chip (NoC) architecture paradigm, based on a modular packet-switched mechanism, can address many of the on-chip communication issues such as performance limitations of long interconnects and integration of large number of Processing Elements (PEs) on a chip. The choice of routing protocol and NoC structure can have a significant impact on performance and power consumption in on-chip networks. In addition, building a high performance, area and energy efficient on-chip network for multicore architectures requires a novel on-chip router allowing a larger network to be integrated on a single die with reduced power consumption. On top of that, network interfaces are employed to decouple computation resources from communication resources, to provide the synchronization between them, and to achieve backward compatibility with existing IP cores. Three adaptive routing algorithms are presented as a part of this thesis. The first presented routing protocol is a congestion-aware adaptive routing algorithm for 2D mesh NoCs which does not support multicast (one-to-many) traffic while the other two protocols are adaptive routing models supporting both unicast (one-to-one) and multicast traffic. A streamlined on-chip router architecture is also presented for avoiding congested areas in 2D mesh NoCs via employing efficient input and output selection. The output selection utilizes an adaptive routing algorithm based on the congestion condition of neighboring routers while the input selection allows packets to be serviced from each input port according to its congestion level. Moreover, in order to increase memory parallelism and bring compatibility with existing IP cores in network-based multiprocessor architectures, adaptive network interface architectures are presented to use multiple SDRAMs which can be accessed simultaneously. In addition, a smart memory controller is integrated in the adaptive network interface to improve the memory utilization and reduce both memory and network latencies. Three Dimensional Integrated Circuits (3D ICs) have been emerging as a viable candidate to achieve better performance and package density as compared to traditional 2D ICs. In addition, combining the benefits of 3D IC and NoC schemes provides a significant performance gain for 3D architectures. In recent years, inter-layer communication across multiple stacked layers (vertical channel) has attracted a lot of interest. In this thesis, a novel adaptive pipeline bus structure is proposed for inter-layer communication to improve the performance by reducing the delay and complexity of traditional bus arbitration. In addition, two mesh-based topologies for 3D architectures are also introduced to mitigate the inter-layer footprint and power dissipation on each layer with a small performance penalty.

Resonance energy transfer (RET) is a non-radiative transfer of the excitation energy from the initially excited luminescent donor to an acceptor. The requirements for the resonance energy transfer are: i) the spectral overlap between the donor emission spectrum and the acceptor absorption spectrum, ii) the close proximity of the donor and the acceptor, and iii) the suitable relative orientations of the donor emission and the acceptor absorption transition dipoles. As a result of the RET process the donor luminescence intensity and the donor lifetime are decreased. If the acceptor is luminescent, a sensitized acceptor emission appears. The rate of RET depends strongly on the donor–acceptor distance (r) and is inversely proportional to r6. The distance dependence of RET is utilized in binding assays. The proximity requirement and the selective detection of the RET-modified emission signal allow homogeneous separation free assays. The term lanthanide-based RET is used when luminescent lanthanide compounds are used as donors. The long luminescence lifetimes, the large Stokes’ shifts and the intense, sharply-spiked emission spectra of the lanthanide donors offer advantages over the conventional organic donor molecules. Both the organic lanthanide chelates and the inorganic up-converting phosphor (UCP) particles have been used as donor labels in the RET based binding assays. In the present work lanthanide luminescence and lanthanide-based resonance energy transfer phenomena were studied. Luminescence lifetime measurements had an essential role in the research. Modular frequency-domain and time-domain luminometers were assembled and used successfully in the lifetime measurements. The frequency-domain luminometer operated in the low frequency domain ( 100 kHz) and utilized a novel dual-phase lock-in detection of the luminescence. One of the studied phenomena was the recently discovered non-overlapping fluorescence resonance energy transfer (nFRET). The studied properties were the distance and temperature dependences of nFRET. The distance dependence was found to deviate from the Förster theory and a clear temperature dependence was observed whereas conventional RET was completely independent of the temperature. Based on the experimental results two thermally activated mechanisms were proposed for the nFRET process. The work with the UCP particles involved the measurement of the luminescence properties of the UCP particles synthesized in our laboratory. The goal of the UCP particle research is to develop UCP donor labels for binding assays. In the present work the effect of the dopant concentrations and the core–shell structure on the total up-conversion luminescence intensity, the red–green emission ratio, and the luminescence lifetime was studied. Also the non-radiative nature of the energy transfer from the UCP particle donors to organic acceptors was demonstrated for the first time in aqueous environment and with a controlled donor–acceptor distance.

2000-luvulla paperikoneiden kustannuskilpailukykyä on parannettu jatkuvasti, mutta se ei ole ollut riittävää. Tarve muutoksiin havaitaan kilpailukyvyn puutteena vuosina 2007–2008. Eräänä hankkeena on paperikoneen suunnitteleminen ja valmistaminen kopiokonseptikoneena, jossa toimitusmoduulina on paperikone perälaatikolta rullaimelle. Moduulikonsepti on toimintatapa, jossa paperikone tuotteistetaan rakenneryhmien ja laitteiden osalta tietyn ominaisuuden mukaan koko paperikonelinjassa. Paperikone rakentuisi sovituista moduulipalikoista. Moduulikonseptitavassa paperikone suunnitellaan ja toteutetaan aina malliaineiston pohjalta kaikissa rakenneryhmissä. Työssä on tarkoitus vertailla kopiokonsepti- ja moduulikonseptimallia. Kaksi tutkimustyön pääkysymystä käsittelee ulkoista kilpailukykyä ja yrityksen sisäistä tehokkuutta valmistaa paperi- ja kartonkikoneita kopiokonsepti- tai moduulikonseptimallilla näkökulmana pitkäaikainen kilpailuetu. Tutkimustulokset selvitettiin Kamenskyn kehittämällä yrityksen strategisen arkkitehtuurin mallilla. Sisäiset ja ulkoiset toiminnot analysoitiin. Ulkoisen ja sisäisen analyysin pohjalta muodostettiin yhdistetty näkemys, synteesianalyysi, joka vastaa työn tavoitteisiin, kahteen pääkysymykseen sekä alakysymyksiin. Kopiokonsepti ei ole ratkaisu pitkäaikaiseen kilpailukykyyn, koska jokainen paperilaji ja konekoko tarvitsevat oman kopiomallinsa. Nykyiset henkilöresurssit eivät tule riittämään näihin koneisiin tarvittavien dokumenttien luomiseen ja ylläpitoon. Suunnittelun perustehtävä muuttuisi projektisuunnittelusta kopiomallien suunnitteluksi. Moduulikonseptilla saavutetaan kaikki ne edut, joita kopiokonseptilla on tavoiteltu, mukaan lukien nimikkeiden uudelleenkäyttö. Moduulikonseptilla voidaan toteuttaa kaikki nykyiset ja tulevat paperikoneet ja paperilajit. Vuosittain saatavissa oleva määrä on 1,5–2,5 kopiokonseptipaperikonetta. Moduulikonseptimallia on saatavissa sama määrä.

Este trabalho apresenta uma alternativa de baixo custo e fácil instalação para o tratamento de esgotos de pequenas comunidades. O experimento foi desenvolvido no Campo Experimental da Faculdade de Engenharia Agrícola (FEAGRI/UNICAMP). O volume total de esgoto gerado na FEAGRI é de cerca de 20 m³ dia-1, sendo metade desse tratado pelos sistemas modulares. O sistema da linha (A) é constituído por um reator UASB (Upflow Anaerobic Sludge Blanket), seguido de dois filtros anaeróbios e o outro sistema, linha (B), é constituído por um reator tipo RAC (Reator Anaeróbio Compartimentado), seguido de dois filtros anaeróbios (FA). Os sistemas foram operados de dezembro de 2002 a fevereiro de 2004, totalizando 30 coletas de amostras. Observou-se que, de maneira geral, o desempenho dos sistemas foram similares e com resultados satisfatórios. As eficiências médias de remoção de Sólidos Sedimentáveis, Sólidos Suspensos Totais e DQO, observadas no sistema modular da Linha (A), foram, respectivamente, 99,58%; 94,33% e 67,30%. O sistema modular da Linha (B) apresentou remoção de 99,49%; 93,34% e 70,45% para os mesmos parâmetros. Os sistemas modulares mostraram-se adequados e viáveis para promover o tratamento sanitário do esgoto produzido em pequenas comunidades.

Tämä diplomityö on osa erään yrityksen sisäistä tuotekehitysprojektia. Projektin päämäärä oli kehittää ja tuoda markkinoille uusi modulaarinen testilaite. Markkinoille tuotava laite voi asiakkaan toivomuksesta pitää sisällään jännitelujuus-, eristysvastus- ja vuotovirtamittarin. Tämän lisäksi uuteen testilaitteeseen on mahdollista lisätä muita sisäisiä rele- ja mittalaitekortteja mm. yleismittarimoduulin. Diplomityössä perehdytään elektroniikan eri suureiden mittaamiseen, sekä syvennytään modulaarisen testilaitteen yleismittarikortin prototyypin suunnitteluun. Prototyypin tuli vastata tarkkuudeltaan ja nopeudeltaan markkinoiden johtavien mittalaitevalmistajien tarjoamia yleiskäyttöön tarkoitettuja järjestelmäyleismittareita. Työn lopputuloksena syntyi digitaaliyleismittarikortin prototyyppi. Käytännön syistä prototyyppikortin mittaustulokset ja tulosten käsittely on rajattu kokonaan pois tästä kirjallisesta dokumentista.

Nos últimos anos, foram introduzidos novos modelos de dispositivos para cultivo em ambiente protegido, como as válvulas antigotas e microaspersores, necessitando-se avaliar o desempenho dos mesmos. Assim, o objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o desempenho hidráulico de válvulas antigotas novas e usadas, sob baixa e alta pressão, em microaspersores do grupo modular e modelo Hadar. O CVf e CVq do conjunto microaspersor e válvula antigotas de baixa pressão e somente o microaspersor modular foram classificados como ruins ou inaceitáveis e a válvula anti-gotas modular de alta pressão nova como inaceitável. A válvula Hadar apresentou o melhor desempenho para todas as pressões de serviço. As válvulas avaliadas abriram em pressões inferiores às indicadas pelos seus fabricantes. O tempo de uso interferiu no desempenho das válvulas antigotas modular de baixa pressão, sendo o modelo novo o que apresentou menor índice de CVf para a pressão de abertura e fechamento.

Maize is a C4 plant that shows few or no response to high [CO2]. Thus, this study aimed to analyze the photosynthetic rate and yield of maize under high [CO2] and develop open-top chambers (OTC) to create an atmosphere enriched with CO2. The experiment was conducted between October 2008 and March 2009. The OTCs were developed in modular scheme. Measurement of photosynthetic rates, transpiration, stomata conductance, grain yield and dry matter were performed. The experimental design was randomized blocks with four replications and three treatments: P1 - plants grown in OTC with 700 ppm [CO2], P2 - plants grown in OTC with environmental [CO2], and P3 - control, cultivated in open field. The results were analyzed by ANOVA and Tukey's test (Pr< 0.05). The chambers can reduce by 25% the photosynthetically active radiation and increase the air and leaf temperatures. Plants under high [CO2] (P1) showed the highest photosynthetic rates and the lowest stomata conductance and transpiration. The total weight of grains (g) and dry mass of shoots (g) showed no increases for P1, despite their higher photosynthetic rates.
