The Botiinae have traditionally represented a subfamily of the Cobitidae. At present, the classification and phylogenetic relationships of the Botiinae are controversial. To address systematic and phylogenetic questions concerning this group, we sequenced the complete cytochrome b gene from 34 samples, of which 24 represented 13 species of the East Asian botiine fishes, while the other 10 were non-botiine loach species. For the 1140 bp sequences determined, 494 sites were variable ones, of which 424 were parsimony informative. With Myxocyprinus asiaticus as an outgroup, molecular phylogenetic trees were constructed using the neighbor-joining, maximum parsimony, maximum likelihood and Bayesian methods. All molecular phylogenetic trees revealed that botiine fishes form a monophyletic group and are distantly related to other loaches, suggesting that the Botiinae should be placed in their own family. Within the Botiinae, there are three genera; Botia, Parabotia, and Leptobotia, each genus forming a monophyletic group, with the genus Botia as the most ancestral split. Our molecular results are in agreement with morphological analyses of botiines, suggesting that Botia is the ancestral genus, while Leptobotia and Parabotia were resolved as more derived sister groups.

Pigment epithelium-derived factor (PEDF) is acknowledged to be a non-inhibitory member of the serine protease inhibitor (serpin) superfamily, with antiangiogenesis, and neuroprotective and immumoregulatory function, mainly in the tissues of nervous system. Here, A PEDF gene homolog, Paralichthys olivaceus PEDF (PoPEDF), was isolated from flounder embryonic cells (FEC) treated with UV-inactivated Grass carp hemorrhage virus (GCHV) and subsequently identified as a differentially expressed gene. The full length of PoPEDF cDNA is 1803 bp with an open reading frame of 1212 bp encoding a 403-amino-acid protein. This deduced protein contains an N-terminal signal peptide, a glycosylation site, a consensus serpin motif, and a 34-mer and a 44-mer fragment, all of which are very conserved in the PEDF family. PoPEDF gene exhibits a conserved exon-intron arrangement with 8 exons and 7 introns. This conserved evolutionary relationship was further confirmed by a phylogenetic analysis, where fish PEDFs and mammalian members formed a well-supported clade. Constitutive expression of PoPEDF was widely detected in many tissues. In response to UV-inactivated GCHV or poly(I:C), PEDF mRNA was upregulated in FEC cells with time. The objective of this study was to develop type I markers for genome mapping and other genetic studies of Penaeus monodon. Primers were designed based on expressed sequence tags (ESTs) from a P monodon cephalothorax cDNA library to amplify 100-300 bp products. 34 of the primer pairs successfully amplified PCR products from genomic DNA. Single-strand conformation polymorphism analysis showed that similar to 30% of the ESTs tested exhibit polymorphism in a test panel of P monodon individuals. Mendelian inheritance of the EST-derived markers has been established in two international reference mapping families of P monodon, and mapping of these markers is in progress. Some ESTs were successfully amplified from other Penaeus species (P. chinensis, P japonicus and P vannamei), indicating that the markers are applicable in cross-species comparison. Two populations of P. japonicus could be differentiated using one of the ESTS. In conclusion, the polymorphic EST markers developed in this study are applicable in genome mapping and population genetic studies of penaeid shrimp. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. We report experimental results of the effect of Ka-band microwave on the spin dynamics of electrons in a two-dimensional electron system (2DES) in a GaAs/Al0.35Ga0.65As heterostructure via time-resolved Kerr rotation measurements. While the microwave reduces the transverse spin lifetime of electrons in the bulk GaAs, it significantly increases that in the 2DES, from 745 to 1213 ps, when its frequency is close to the Zeeman splitting of the electrons in the magnetic field. Such a microwave-enhanced spin lifetime is ascribed to the microwave-induced electron scattering which leads to a "motional narrowing" of spins via D'yakonov-Perel' mechanism.

We report on the realization of quantum cascade (QC) lasers based on strain-compensated InxGa(1-x)As/In(y)A((1-y))As grown on InP substrates using molecular beam epitaxy. X-ray diffraction and cross section transmission electron microscopy have been used to ascertain the quality of the QC laser materials. Quasi-continuous wave lasing at lambda approximate to 3.54-3.7 mum at room temperature was achieved. For a laser with 1.6 mm cavity length and 20 mum ridge-waveguide width,quasi-continuous wave lasing at 34 degreesC persists for more than 30 min, with a maximum power of 11.4 mW and threshold current density of 1.2 kA cm(-2), both record values for QC lasers of comparable wavelength.

A short wavelength (lambda similar or equal to 3.5 mu m) strain-compensated InxGa(1-x)As/InyAl(1-y)As quantum cascade laser is reported. Quasi-continuous wave operation of this device at 34 degrees C with an output power of 11.4mW persisted for more than 30 minutes without obvious degradation. A very low threshold current density of 1.2KA/cm(2) at this temperature was observed.

A broadband external cavity tunable laser is realized by using a broad-emitting spectral InAs/GaAs quantum dot (QD) gain device. A tuning range of 69 nm with a central wavelength of 1056 nm, is achieved at a bias of 1.25 kA/cm(2) only by utilizing the light emission from the ground state of QDs. This large tunable range only covers the QD ground-state emission and is related to the inhomogeneous size distribution of QDs. No excited state contributes to the tuning bandwidth. The application of the QD gain device to the external cavity tunable laser shows its immense potential in broadening the tuning bandwidth. By the external cavity feedback, the threshold current density can be reduced remarkably compared with the free-running QD gain device.

提出了一种高精度在线测定电流传感器相位差的方法.在输入端加入测试信号,在输出端采用独立分量分析(ICA)将该测试信号与传感器正常工作的输出信号分离,通过比较该测试信号输出前后相位的变化确定传感器的相位差.但因ICA算法固有的局限性,同一混合信号每次分离结果误差不同,为了提高分离精度,利用BP网络学习分离结果中相位误差与最大似然指标和负熵的关系,提出了一个指示分离结果误差的评价量,以选取多次分离结果中的最优结果.实验结果证明该评价量的有效性.

在深入研究目前国际上比较流行的几种系统级电源管理(PM)算法的基础上,利用BP神经网络的非线性映射能力,提出基于BP神经网络的、对任务之间相互间隔时间也就是系统空闲时段的长度进行自适应学习的BPPM算法,具有传统回归PM算法不可比拟的优点。仿真实验表明引入神经网络的电源管理算法较之传统PM算法大大降低了系统级功耗。实现了在不需要建立系统模型、无需预先获得负载统计特性的前提下,通过从系统正常工作产生的数据中不断学习,使系统具有自适应、高效的电源管理能力,以达到降低系统功耗、提高器件可靠性、延长工作寿命的目的。

An improved BP algorithm for pattern recognition is proposed in this paper. By a function substitution for error measure, it resolves the inconsistency of BP algorithm for pattern recognition problems, i.e. the quadratic error is not sensitive to whether the training pattern is recognized correctly or not. Trained by this new method, the computer simulation result shows that the convergence speed is increased to treble and performance of the network is better than conventional BP algorithm with momentum and adaptive step size.
