Advanced age may become a limiting factor for the maintenance of rhythms in organisms, reducing the capacity of generation and synchronization of biological rhythms. In this study, the influence of aging on the expression of endogenous periodicity and synchronization (photic and social) of the circadian activity rhythm (CAR) was evaluated in a diurnal primate, the marmoset (Callithrix jacchus). This study had two approaches: one with longitudinal design, performed with a male marmoset in two different phases: adult (three years) and older (9 y.o.) (study 1) and the second, a transversal approach, with 6 old (♂: 9.7 ± 2.0 y.o.) and 11 adults animals (♂: 4.2 ± 0.8 y.o.) (study 2). The evaluation of the photic synchronization involved two conditions in LD (natural and artificial illuminations). In study 1, the animal was subjected to the following stages: LD (12:12 ~ 350: ~ 2 lx), LL (~ 350 lx) and LD resynchronization. In the second study, the animals were initially evaluated in natural LD, and then the same sequence stages of study 1. During the LL stage in study 2, the vocalizations of conspecifics kept in natural LD on the outside of the colony were considered temporal cue to the social synchronization. The record of the activity was performed automatically at intervals of five minutes through infrared sensor and actimeters, in studies 1 and 2, respectively. In general, the aged showed a more fragmented activity pattern (> IV < H and > PSD, ANOVA, p < 0.05), lower levels of activity (ANOVA, p < 0.05) and shorter duration of active phase (ANOVA, p < 0.05) in LD conditions, when compared to adults. In natural LD, the aged presented phase delay pronounced for onset and offset of active phase (ANOVA, p < 0.05), while the adults had the active phase more adjusted to light phase. Under artificial LD, there was phase advance and greater adjustment of onset and offset of activity in relation to the LD in the aged (ANOVA, p < 0.05). In LL, there was a positive correlation between age and the endogenous period () in the first 20 days (Spearman correlation, p < 0.05), with prolonged  held in two aged animals. In this condition, most adults showed free-running period of the circadian activity rhythm with  < 24 h for the first 30 days and later on relative coordination mediated by auditory cues. In study 2, the cross-correlation analysis between the activity profiles of the animals in LL with control animals kept under natural LD, found that there was less social synchronization in the aged. With the resubmission to the LD, the resynchronization rate was slower in the aged (t-test; p < 0.05) and in just one aged animal there was a loss of resynchronization capability. According to the data set, it is suggested that the aging in marmosets may be related to: 1) lower amplitude and greater fragmentation of the activity, accompanied to phase delay with extension of period, caused by changes in a photic input, in the generation and behavioral expression of the CAR; 2) lower capacity of the circadian activity rhythm to photic synchronization, that can become more robust in artificial lighting conditions, possibly due to the higher light intensities at the beginning of the active phase due to the abrupt transitions between the light and dark phases; and 3) smaller capacity of non-photic synchronization for auditory cues from conspecifics, possibly due to reducing sensory inputs and responsiveness of the circadian oscillators to auditory cues, what can make the aged marmoset most vulnerable, as these social cues may act as an important supporting factor for the photic synchronization.

The aim of this study was to propose a Performance Evaluation System for outsourced employees of the University Restaurant of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte to supply the lack of evaluative instruments. According to Provision of Services Contract nº050/2010 and nº055/2011 of FURN with SAFE LOCAÇÃO DE MÃO DE OBRA LTDA ME, it is the hired company to promote periodic functional performance evaluation of the outsourced employees, but this is not done. The performance evaluation process serves to evaluate if the employees are making their tasks according to the organizations’ objectives and goals, besides that helps to find service failures and capacity of employees demands, thus contributing to improve work conditions and the global performance of the organizations. To elaborate the proposal of evaluation, it was chosen an action research with the participation of all stakeholders, employees and managers from UR. On data collect, first, outsourced employees and management servers were interviewed, in order to raise existing perceptions about performance evaluation aspects. From these data and the work routine observation, a proposal of performance evaluation was elaborated, that was appreciated, criticized and adjusted by the actors involved (employees and managers) to the final formulation of the instrument. This study also presents the necessary steps to the implementation of the Performance Evaluation System. The proposed Performance Evaluation System can be applied to the FURN assuming this process, after modification of contract terms and the approval by the ADCON. It also can serve as an example to others units that works with the provision of outsourced services, enabling so the performance evaluation to be part of the management policy of all people working in FURN.

Assessing the soil nutrient availability to plants under lab conditions is one of the main challenges to Soil Fertility and Chemistry, due to the complex behavior and the interaction of the soil properties. Many extractant solutions associated with mechanical forms of agitation have been proposed, showing different correlations with plant growth and nutrients absorption. Using ultrasonic energy is a agitation procedure of the soil:extractant solution suspension (based on the cavitation phenomenon). It allows the establishment of relations between the amount of extracted nutrient and the ultrasonic energy level. Thus, this work aims: to evaluate the effect of cavitation intensity on the extraction of P, Zn, Cu, Mn and Fe in soil samples from five Latosols under different uses around Uberlândia and Uberaba, Minas Gerais State; to obtain extracting curves as function of ultrasonic energy levels; and to obtain an index from extracting curves to expresses the nutrient retention by the soil solid phase. A soil-solution suspension (ratio 1:10) was sonicated using a probe ultrasound equipment under different combinations of power and time: i) 30 W for 35, 70, 140 and 280 s; ii) 50 W for 21, 42, 84 and 168 s; and iii) 70 W for 15, 30, 60 and 120 s. The extractant solutions used were Mehlich-1 (for all elements), Olsen and distilled water for P. After each sonication, P concentration was quantified by molybdenum blue colorimetric method and Zn, Cu, Mn and Fe by flame atomic absorption spectrophotometry. The cavitation intensity did not affect the P extraction, only the total energy applied. The P extraction was influenced by extractant solution, decreasing as follows: Mehlich-1>Olsen>water. In cultivated Latosols, the P extraction increased linearly with ultrasonic energy, and the slope of the 1:1 linear regression reflects the P retention in the soil. The Zn and Fe extractions were influenced only by total energy applied. Mn and Cu extractions were influenced by both cavitation intensity and total ultrasonic energy. Soils containing similar amounts of P, Cu, Zn, Mn, and Fe may have a different extraction rate. Likewise, soils containing different amounts of those elements may have the same extraction rate.

Introducción: En los pacientes coinfectados VIH/VHC, la influencia del tratamiento antirretroviral sobre la respuesta al tratamiento de la hepatitis C con interferón pegilado y ribavirina no se conoce bien. El objetivo de este estudio es investigar el efecto del tratamiento antirretroviral sobre la respuesta al tratamiento en los pacientes coinfectados. Métodos: Los pacientes se seleccionaron de dos cohortes de pacientes coinfectados por VIH y VHC de GESIDA y tratados con interferón pegilado y ribavirina entre 2001 y 2007. La respuesta viral sostenida se definió como una carga viral indetectable a las 24 semanas de haber finalizado el tratamiento. Se utilizaron métodos de regresión logística para estudiar posibles asociaciones entre la ausencia de respuesta y las características basales, incluyendo los fármacos antirretrovirales acompañantes. Resultados: Se incluyeron 1701 pacientes: el 63% tenía el genotipo 1 o 4 del VHC y el 88% estaba tomando TARGA. Los factores asociados de forma independiente con mayor probabilidad de RVS fueron el genotipo 2 o 3, la concentración de ARN-VHC<500000 UI/ml y la categoría clínica A o B. Se realizó un análisis ajustado a los factores pronósticos y la dosis de ribavirina /kg de peso, obteniendo una OR ajustada de RVS en los pacientes sin TARGA de 1,31 (IC95% 0,91-1,88, p=0,144). Tomando la pauta de TDF+FTC/3TC como referencia, se vio que solamente el AZT se asoció a una menor probabilidad de RVS, con una OR ajustada de RVS de 0,65 (IC95% 0,46-0,93, p=0,017). Conclusiones: El hecho de estar recibiendo TAR no tuvo ningún efecto sobre la respuesta al tratamiento de la hepatitis C. El único fármaco antirretroviral que se asoció de forma significativa con menor probabilidad de RVS fue el AZT.

Três grupos constituídos por indivíduos de tilápia da espécie Oreochromis mossambicus foram observados por um período de 6 meses e registado os seus comportamentos reprodutivos, número de fêmeas em incubação e o número de fry que nasceram durante este tempo. Cada grupo apresentava proporções sexuais distintas (macho:fêmea), nomeadamente, 1:3, 1:4 e 2:2. Após a evolução do estágio das fry a alevins, foram testados nestes indivíduos 3 dietas experimentais: a dieta RT (ração para tilápia), a dieta RD (dieta para douradas) e a Mix (uma mistura de 50% de cada uma das rações anteriormente referidas). Os alevins foram distribuídos em 9 tanques, 20 indivíduos/tanque, existindo três réplicas por dieta e todos se encontravam a uma temperatura de 28 ± 1ºC. Foram alimentados 3 vezes por dia durante 11 semanas, fazendo jejum 1 dia por semana. A cada 2 semanas, os indivíduos eram pesados e medidos e a quantidade de ração era ajustada de acordo com o seu crescimento. Como forma de se reduzir o stress neste procedimento de medição e pesagem, utilizaram-se três anestésicos a diferentes concentrações: MS-222 (0,15, 0,25 e 0,35ml L-1), óleo de cravo (0,10, 0,15 e 1,2ml L-1) e 2-fenoxietanol (0,40, 0,60, 0,80 e 1,00ml L-1). Registaram-se os tempos de indução e recuperação e avaliou-se qual o anestésico mais eficaz. No final do ensaio, os indivíduos foram mortos por choque térmico, filetados e sujeitados a estudos para avaliação do teor de proteína, lípidos, humidade e cinzas. No final de todo este trabalho experimental verificou-se que existiu reprodução nos Grupos 1 e 2 durante os 6 meses e que a melhor proporção sexual é 1:3 (macho:fêmea). Observou-se que as fêmeas que produzem mais posturas seguidas têm um menor número de fry por postura e as que fazem um maior intervalo de tempo entre cada postura, produzem posturas com um maior número de fry. Para qualquer uma destas opções das fêmeas, a taxa de mortalidade das fry é muito reduzida. No ensaio das dietas, os alevins aceitaram com boa aceitabilidade as três dietas mas com o decorrer do tempo, os indivíduos da dieta RD começaram a ganhar hemorragias em algumas partes do corpo. Não existiram diferenças significativas entre as dietas. A dieta Mix foi a que mostrou melhores resultados finais com um peso e comprimento máximos de 4,51 ± 3,39g e 3,36 ± 1,81cm, respetivamente. Para os valores de WG, SGR e FCR também não existiram diferenças significativas para as três iv dietas, sendo a dieta Mix a obter os valores máximos para WG (4,71g) e SGR (2,97% dia-1) mas com o FCR baixo (12,45 g/g). Para os resultados da composição química obtiveram-se diferenças estatisticamente significativas (P < 0,05) nos dados da proteína e humidade. A dieta RT foi a que apresentou um maior teor de proteína (18,53%) e os valores máximos para a humidade foram nas dietas RT (80.54%) e Mix (80,57%). Os lípidos e as cinzas não tiveram diferenças significativas e os valores máximos para estes dois parâmetros foram 1,38% e 1,50% na RT, respetivamente. Para os anestésicos estudados existiram diferenças significativas (P < 0,05) para os tempos de anestesia e recuperação pertencentes ao MS-222 e 2-fenoxietanol; o óleo de cravo apenas apresentou diferenças significativas no tempo de indução. As concentrações que mais eficazes se mostraram para anestesiar Tilápias Moçambicanas foram: 0,25ml L-1 para o MS-222, 0,10ml L-1 para o óleo de cravo e 0,80ml L-1 e 1,00ml L-1 para o 2-fenoxietanol. Os resultados deste trabalho sugerem que a reprodução de Tilápia Moçambicana se consegue com bastante sucesso quando se proporcionam condições ótimas, principalmente, a temperatura que é um dos fatores mais importantes; é uma espécie que aceita com facilidade variados tipos de rações; e os anestésicos utilizados mostraram-se eficazes a anestesiar os juvenis desta espécie apesar de ser necessário continuar o estudo com mais concentrações.

El 5º Informe del IPCC (Panel Intergubernamental de Cambio Climático, 2014) señala que el turismo será una de las actividades económicas que mayores efectos negativos experimentará en las próximas décadas debido al calentamiento térmico del planeta. En España, el turismo es una fuente principal de ingresos y de creación de puestos de trabajo en su economía. De ahí que sea necesaria la puesta en marcha de medidas de adaptación a la nueva realidad climática que, en nuestro país, va a suponer cambios en el confort climático de los destinos e incremento de extremos atmosféricos. Frente a los planes de adaptación al cambio climático en la actividad turística, elaborados por los gobiernos estatal y regional, que apenas se han desarrollado en España, la escala local muestra interesantes ejemplos de acciones de adaptación al cambio climático, desarrolladas tanto por los municipios (energía, transporte, vivienda, planificación urbanística) como por la propia empresa turística (hoteles, campings, apartamentos). Medidas de ahorro de agua y luz, fomento del transporte público y de las energías limpias, creación de zonas verdes urbanas y adaptación a los extremos atmosféricos destacan como acciones de mitigación del cambio climático en los destinos turísticos principales de nuestro país.

This work represents an original contribution to the methodology for ecosystem models' development as well as the rst attempt of an end-to-end (E2E) model of the Northern Humboldt Current Ecosystem (NHCE). The main purpose of the developed model is to build a tool for ecosystem-based management and decision making, reason why the credibility of the model is essential, and this can be assessed through confrontation to data. Additionally, the NHCE exhibits a high climatic and oceanographic variability at several scales, the major source of interannual variability being the interruption of the upwelling seasonality by the El Niño Southern Oscillation, which has direct e ects on larval survival and sh recruitment success. Fishing activity can also be highly variable, depending on the abundance and accessibility of the main shery resources. This context brings the two main methodological questions addressed in this thesis, through the development of an end-to-end model coupling the high trophic level model OSMOSE to the hydrodynamics and biogeochemical model ROMS-PISCES: i) how to calibrate ecosystem models using time series data and ii) how to incorporate the impact of the interannual variability of the environment and shing. First, this thesis highlights some issues related to the confrontation of complex ecosystem models to data and proposes a methodology for a sequential multi-phases calibration of ecosystem models. We propose two criteria to classify the parameters of a model: the model dependency and the time variability of the parameters. Then, these criteria along with the availability of approximate initial estimates are used as decision rules to determine which parameters need to be estimated, and their precedence order in the sequential calibration process. Additionally, a new Evolutionary Algorithm designed for the calibration of stochastic models (e.g Individual Based Model) and optimized for maximum likelihood estimation has been developed and applied to the calibration of the OSMOSE model to time series data. The environmental variability is explicit in the model: the ROMS-PISCES model forces the OSMOSE model and drives potential bottom-up e ects up the foodweb through plankton and sh trophic interactions, as well as through changes in the spatial distribution of sh. The latter e ect was taken into account using presence/ absence species distribution models which are traditionally assessed through a confusion matrix and the statistical metrics associated to it. However, when considering the prediction of the habitat against time, the variability in the spatial distribution of the habitat can be summarized and validated using the emerging patterns from the shape of the spatial distributions. We modeled the potential habitat of the main species of the Humboldt Current Ecosystem using several sources of information ( sheries, scienti c surveys and satellite monitoring of vessels) jointly with environmental data from remote sensing and in situ observations, from 1992 to 2008. The potential habitat was predicted over the study period with monthly resolution, and the model was validated using quantitative and qualitative information of the system using a pattern oriented approach. The nal ROMS-PISCES-OSMOSE E2E ecosystem model for the NHCE was calibrated using our evolutionary algorithm and a likelihood approach to t monthly time series data of landings, abundance indices and catch at length distributions from 1992 to 2008. To conclude, some potential applications of the model for shery management are presented and their limitations and perspectives discussed.

La mejora en la calidad de vida ha favorecido considerablemente el aumento de la esperanza de vida de las personas con síndrome de Down (SD), motivo por el cual es preciso describir las características neuropsicológicas que presenta su proceso de envejecimiento, con la finalidad de realizar una adecuada prevención y una intervención ajustada a las necesidades de cada persona. En esta investigación se ha realizado un estudio multicéntrico en el que han participado un total de 217 personas adultas con SD, administrando un screening cognitivo que permite obtener una valoración general y básica del estado cognitivo de los participantes. Los resultados nos indican que las personas adultas con SD de edades comprendidas entre los 38 y los 62 años presentan cambios neuropsicológicos significativos en las áreas de lenguaje, memoria y estado cognitivo general, en relación a las personas adultas con SD más jóvenes. En conclusión, el seguimiento en el proceso de envejecimiento favorece la detección temprana y la prevención del deterioro cognitivo, promoviendo así un envejecimiento activo y saludable.

El compromiso con las personas, con la sociedad y el entorno busca un modo de añadir valor y el beneficio de todas las partes implicadas, también en el movimiento organizado de las personas con discapacidad y sus familias. En este sentido, el CERMI, a través de su Comisión de RSC/Discapacidad, pone a disposición de todas sus entidades miembro un conjunto de recomendaciones para que, de forma progresiva, estas se impregnen de una cultura ética y responsable, en la que el fin último sea dar una respuesta eficaz y ajustada a las necesidades y expectativas de nuestro grupo de interés principal: las personas con discapacidad y sus familias y que al tiempo sirva para proporcionar una mayor legitimidad, sostenibilidad y trasparencia a nuestras organizaciones.

Existen distintos enfoques para abordar la nutrición con P y, en la actualidad, muchos de ellos coexisten sin estar definidos claramente cuál es su objetivo. En la región pampeana norte de Argentina no se encuentra disponible una herramienta que integre la información disponible y permita realizar una recomendación de fertilización con P en el cultivo de maíz. Se decidió integrar los diferentes resultados científicos publicados para desarrollar una herramienta que ayude en la toma de decisiones de un plan de fertilización con P, teniendo en cuenta no solo las cuestiones agronómicas, una u otra filosofía, sino también las condiciones económicas y empresariales. Se desarrollaron ecuaciones en base a esa información científica y ajustes para que el calculador tuviese además un entorno sencillo de manejo y cálculos económicos para evaluar rentabilidad en función del criterio de aplicación de P seleccionado. Con las funciones proporcionadas por las fuentes consultadas se construyó un Calculador de P que estima la dosis de fertilizante a utilizar según el nivel actual de P Bray1 del suelo y el criterio de fertilización que se desee utilizar. De acuerdo a la función ajustada, se requiere un valor de P-Bray1 de 20 ppm, para que este nutriente no limite el rendimiento. Las bases de funcionamiento de la herramienta radican en información publicada, la cual puede ser revisada por cualquier interesado en el tema ya sea para perfeccionar la herramienta y generar un modelo superador o para interpretar lo realizado

La complejidad de construir portafolios de inversión de renta variable (acciones) consiste en la búsqueda de una distribución óptima de activos que puedan dar un resultado de menor exposición al riesgo para un nivel de rendimiento máximo. El primer desafío por lograr, entonces, es el referido a la selección de los activos que se deben tomar en cuenta y, luego, la decisión de cuáles de estos adquirir. Adicionalmente, este procedimiento presenta una dificultad cuando se desea calcular, de manera razonable, la rentabilidad y riesgo de los diferentes portafolios construidos. En este contexto, el presente trabajo de investigación busca diferenciar la conformación de portafolios de inversión a través de la diversificación de activos sectoriales y geográficos (entre países). Tanto en rendimiento, riesgo y rentabilidad ajustada al riesgo para, de esta forma, contribuir a la toma de decisiones de los inversionistas alineados a sus objetivos y a su nivel de aversión al riesgo.

Metodología: el diseño metodológico utilizado fue de casos y controles con pareamiento doble (edad y sexo) e incluyó a niños/as menores de seis meses que fueron atendidos en consulta externa de la Fundación Pablo Jaramillo de Cuenca entre julio y octubre de 2007. El universo fue infinito y homogéneo, con muestra probabilística (74 casos y 148 controles). El desarrollo psicomotor se valoró con el test de Brunet-Lézine. El análisis estadístico se basó en Odds ratios crudos y Odds ratios ajustados. Resultados: los factores con asociación significativa al retraso del desarrollo psicomotor fueron, en el análisis bivariado, la prematuridad (OR 2.5, IC 951.2-5.1, p 0.009), peso al nacimiento menor a 2500 g (OR 10.6, IC 954.3-26.0, p 0.000), desnutrición posnatal (OR 12.1, IC 954.4-33.6, p 0.000), perímetro cefálico pequeño para la edad posnatal (OR 3.2, IC 951.4-7.7, p 0.006), talla baja para la edad posnatal (OR 4.2, IC 951.9-9.2, p 0.000) y condición neurológica anormal (OR 11.3, IC 955.8-21.8, p 0.000). En la regresión logística, la prematuridad (OR 2.6, IC 951.2-5.8, p 0.015) ajustada por los factores perinatales, la desnutrición posnatal (OR 35.4, IC951.2-1024.1, p 0.038) y la anormalidad en la condición neurológica (OR 8.5, 4.0-18.2, p 0.000) ajustadas por los factores perinatales y posnatales. Conclusiones: los factores de riesgo significativos asociados al retraso del desarrollo psicomotor fueron la prematuridad ajustada por factores perinatales, la desnutrición posnatal y la anormalidad en la condición neurológica ajustadas por los factores perinatales y posnatales

Dentro de los factores que limitan el mayor desarrollo de la Cadena Cárnica Ovina del Uruguay, se encuentra la marcada estacionalidad de la oferta de animales. Esta última se asocia principalmente a problemas de déficit en la cantidad y calidad del forraje que normalmente se da en verano, seguido por el otoño. Este artículo resume, sistematiza y prioriza trabajos de investigación sobre la recría y engorde de corderos durante los meses de verano y su eventual prolongación a los meses otoño. Se resumen los parámetros de producción animal registrados en investigaciones realizadas en el exterior y a nivel nacional. De la información local se destaca el estudio de varios factores, tales como la base forrajera utilizada, sistemas de pastoreo, nivel y tipo de suplementación, uso del riego, carga animal y género, sobre la productividad de corderos. Se concluye que existe una amplia gama de opciones y recomendaciones tecnológicas generadas por la investigación nacional, disponibles para asesores técnicos y productores, para evaluar la conveniencia productiva y económica de la implementación de sistemas acelerados de recría y engorde estival de corderos en el Uruguay.

Objetivo: Evaluar la exposición a plaguicidas organofosforados y el desempeño neuropsicológico y motor de trabajadores/as agrícolas y no agrícolas de la Región del Maule, Chile. Método: Estudio transversal analítico con 93 trabajadores/as agrícolas expuestos/as a plaguicidas organofosforados y 84 trabajadores/as no agrícolas no expuestos/as. Se administró una batería de cuatro pruebas neuropsicológicas junto con un examen físico neuromotor. Resultados: Los/las trabajadores/as agrícolas expuestos/as tuvieron un menor desempeño en la escala de inteligencia de Wechsler para Adultos (WAIS-IV) en comprensión verbal (Β = -3,2; p = 0,034), en velocidad de procesamiento (Β = -4,4; p = 0,036) y en la escala total (Β = -4; p = 0,016); sensibilidad discriminativa (Β = 1, p = 0,009) ajustada por años de educación o edad en comparación con los controles. Conclusiones: Se sugiere el desarrollo de políticas en materia de control, venta y uso de plaguicidas organofosforados, y de intervenciones con la población expuesta respecto a medidas de seguridad.
