Productividad del recurso humano de ciencia y tecnología en Colombia 1990-2004

El documento estudia los determinantes de la productividad del recurso humano dedicado a actividades de C&T en Colombia. A partir de la medición que realizó Colciencias en el año 2004 para la clasificación de grupos a nivel nacional, se encuentra que el nivel de formación del investigador tiene impacto en la productividad del grupo, al igual que las relaciones sociales complejas dadas por la preferencia de trabajo con los investigadores que tienen más prestigio dentro del grupo, ya que esto ofrece la posibilidad de generar mayores habilidades a los investigadores de menor clasificación. El segundo análisis se realiza a partir de la información de los becarios de estudios de postgrado en el exterior de Colciencias y utilizando los datos de su CvLac, encontrando que variables como el nivel de formación y el manejo de idiomas son determinantes de la productividad del investigador y que para Colombia, el área de conocimiento del investigador no son referentes a su productividad.

Laser Health and Safety Interactive Video

This short video is designed to make you think about the safety aspects of working with lasers within laser laboratories. Postgraduates and research fellows work with many different types of lasers in a variety of different experimental conditions. These lasers are often more powerful than those used as an undergraduate and require additional safety practices. The video was demonstrated to the EUNIS 2008 conference Aarhus, Denmark, and was a finalist in the Dorup E-Learning Award.

This training video is intended to familiarise researchers and technicians working with Hazard Group 1 pathogens in Containment Level 1 animal facilities. It is in Flash video format which will require a free media player such as VLC Media Player (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/) to watch.

This training video is intended to familiarise researchers and technicians, working with potentially airborne pathogens, on the correct and safe use of Microbiological Safety Cabinets. The video also provides instruction on cleaning, disinfection and fumigation regimes; maintenance and testing regimes; and commissioning and decommissioning requirements of such Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV) systems. Supporting International Students Workshop Materials

These materials, which include a powerpoint, list of references and group activities were developed by Alison Dickens and Jill Doubleday (Modern Languages, University of Southampton) and have been used to deliver workshops for academics working with international students at the University and externally. We would like to acknowledge the contribution to the workshop of Dave Burnapp who developed some of the activities used in the workshop.

Supporting International Students in the Classroom

The University’s strategy aims to increase the numbers of International Students studying here, and this brings particular challenges for the teaching staff. Do you sometimes wonder if your international students are able to fully engage with their studies? Have you been in a situation where the international students in your class seem very quiet and reluctant to engage in group discussion? Have you found a higher proportion of international students seemed to struggle with their assignments? This guide highlights some of the issues facing international students studying in the UK and it provides tips for teaching staff to use in order to maximise the internal students engagement in their studies. In addition the guide provides references to further reading and resources both within the University and externally. Review of A-level Chemistry content 2015

ITEM DESCRIPTION After producing reviews of A-level Chemistry content in 2007 and 2010, we have updated the document to reflect the changes which have been introduced for first teaching in September 2015. We will be working with our network of teachers locally to monitor the impacts of the changes on teaching and the student experience with a view to releasing an updated version in the summer of 2017. This will aim to provide insights for university staff regarding the experiences of incoming students who will have been in the first cohort to have studied the new specifications. Experiencias positivas de la aplicación de un método didáctico para estudiantes del programa de Fisioterapia en la práctica de promoción y prevención

El Objetivo fue aplicar un método didáctico diseñado para estudiantes de Promoción y Prevención del programa de Fisioterapia de la Universidad del Rosario, en Colombia, con el fin de facilitar sus acciones de educación en salud con la comunidad. Metodología: el proyecto incluyó tres fases: la revisión teórica de las competencias del docente en la práctica y los diferentes métodos empleados para desarrollar acciones de promoción y prevención en el trabajo comunitario, el diseño del método y su aplicación con los estudiantes y, finalmente, la evaluación y el respectivo análisis de resultados. Resultados: se evidenció que frente al desarrollo de otras experiencias docentes, la aplicación de un método didáctico con los estudiantes les permitía desarrollar hábilmente sus competencias para el trabajo con grupos poblacionales. Conclusiones: la aplicación de un método didáctico en práctica favorece la adquisición de herramientas pedagógicas por los estudiantes y mejora su desempeño en el desarrollo de las actividades programadas.
