Áreas de uma microbacia sem a incidência de doenças causadas por Rhizoctonia solani GA 4 foram agrupadas estatisticamente, pelo método de Ward, com relação à supressividade dos solos ao patógeno, avaliada pela taxa de crescimento micelial. Entre os grupos formados, foi definido um gradiente de supressividade. A relação entre gradientes de supressividade e tipos de cobertura vegetal foi descrita com auxílio da análise de correspondências múltiplas, sendo que, de modo geral, o pasto e o pousio, seguidos da mata, tornaram os solos mais supressivos, ao passo que a cana-de-açúcar (Saccharum officinarum), o milho (Zea mays ), o café (Coffea arabica) e o solo arado tornaram os solos mais conducentes. Porém, os resultados mostraram que outros fatores, além da cobertura vegetal, podem estar afetando a supressividade. Um tratamento biocida (fumigação) dos solos mais supressivos promoveu um maior incremento da taxa de crescimento do patógeno do que o observado com solos mais conducentes.

A antracnose é a doença pós-colheita mais importante do maracujá amarelo, cujo agente etiológico, no Brasil, foi identificado como Colletotrichum gloeosporioides. Visando caracterizar o patógeno, foram obtidos 33 isolados de três regiões produtoras do estado de Pernambuco. Critérios morfológicos como cor de colônia, forma e dimensão de conídios, a produção de peritécio e o uso de primers específicos para C. acutatum, C. gloeosporioides e "Colletotrichum de Passiflora" permitiram identificar Glomerella cingulata patótipo 1, G. cingulata patótipo 2, Colletotrichum sp. de Passiflora e Colletotrichum sp. de maracujá amarelo. Inoculações em maracujá amarelo possibilitaram separar os isolados em dois grupos, um de agressividade alta (GA-1) e outro de agressividade baixa (GA-2). Os marcadores bioquímicos como atividade enzimática amilolítica, celulolítica, lipolítica e proteolítica assim como o marcador fisiológico crescimento micelial não separaram os isolados pela agressividade. O padrão de marcas geradas pela amplificação dos DNAs dos isolados usando primers RAPD evidenciou que os isolados do GA-1 variaram menos geneticamente entre si do que os isolados do GA-2, demonstrando que os do GA-1 evoluíram mais recentemente. A amplificação do DNA dos isolados com o primer OPA-9 gerou um marcador que possibilitou caracterizar 85,7% dos isolados do GA-1 e também alguns isolados do GA-2 com agressividade próxima às dos isolados do GA-1, e por isto o primer OPA-9 pode ser usado para caracterizar isolados de Colletotrichum spp. de alta agressividade em programa de resistência genética.

The aim of this thesis was to study the health, the hospitalisations, and the use of communal health care services in very preterm children during the first five years of life. In addition, the effect of very preterm birth and prematurity-related morbidities on the costs of hospitalisations, other health care services and the cost per quality adjusted life years (QALY) were studied. This population-based study included all very preterm children (gestational age (GA) <32 weeks or birth weight<1501g, N=2 064) and full-term controls (GA 37+0−41+6, N=200 609) born in Finland during 2000-2003. The data sources included national register data, costing data from the participating hospitals and parental questionnaires. This study showed that most very preterm infants born in Finland survived without prematurity-related morbidities diagnosed during the first years of life. They required relatively little hospital care after the initial discharge, which accounted for the vast majority of the total four-year hospitalisation costs. However, a minority of children born very preterm later developing morbidities had a long initial length of stay and more re-admissions and outpatient visits during the five-year follow-up period. In particular, the number and costs of non-emergency outpatient visits were considerable in individuals with prematurity-related morbidities. The need and costs of hospitalisations decreased clearly with each follow-up year, even in individuals with morbidities. The health-care related costs during the fifth year of life in children born very preterm without prematurity-related morbidities were close to the costs in infants born healthy at term. The cost per QALY of 19,245 € was at an acceptable level already by four years of age in the very preterm population as a whole. Prematurity-related later morbidities and decreasing GA increased the costs per QALY. As the initial hospital stay accounted for a great majority of the total four-year costs, and the costs of hospitalisation decreased with each follow-up year, the cost per QALY is likely to decrease with age. In conclusion, the majority of costs arising after the initial hospitalisation were associated with morbidities related to prematurity. Therefore offering high-quality neonatal care to prevent later morbidities in very preterm survivors has a long-term impact on the cost per QALY. In addition, this study indicates that when estimating the costs of prematurity after the first year of life, one should calculate not only the hospitalisation costs, but also other costs for social welfare services, primary care, and therapies, as these exceed the hospitalisation costs in very preterm infants during the fifth year of life.

Óxido de zinco dopado com gálio (ZnO:Ga) foi preparado pelo método Pechini a partir de citrato de zinco e hidróxido de gálio. Utilizsando este método, foi possível obter ZnO:Ga cristalino pela calcinação do precursor polimérico em ar a 900ºC por 4 horas. A resina homogênea contendo 2% de dopante só pôde ser obtida com a adição de ácido etilenodiaminotetracético (edta). A adição do edta, também, ocasionou a diminuição de tamanho de partícula do óxido.

Solid state compounds M-2-Cl-BP, where 2-Cl-BP is 2-chlorobenzylidenepyruvate and M represents Al, Ga, In, and Sc were prepared. X-ray powder diffractometry, infrared spectroscopy and simultaneous thermogravimetry-differential thermal analysis (TG-DTA), have been used to characterize and to study the thermal behavior of these compounds. The results provided information concerning the stoichiometry, crystallinity, thermal stability and thermal decomposition of the compounds.

Solid state compounds of 4-methylbenzylidenepyruvate with Al(III), Ga(III), In(III) and Sc(III) have been synthesized. Complexometry, X-ray powder diffractometry, infrared spectroscopy and simultaneous thermogravimetry-differential thermal analysis (TG-DTA) have been used to characterize and to study the thermal behavior of these compounds. The results provided information concerning the stoichiometry, crystallinity, thermal stability and thermal decomposition of these compounds.

A small carbonatite dyke swarm has been identified at Naantali, southwest Finland. Several swarms of shoshonitic lamprophyres are also known along the Archean-Proterozoic boundary in eastern Finland and northwest Russia. These intrusions, along with the carbonatite intrusion at Halpanen, eastern Finland, represent a stage of widespread low-volume mantle-sourced alkaline magmatism in the Svecofennian Domain. Using trace element and isotope geochemistry coupled with precise geochronology from these rocks, a model is presented for the Proterozoic metasomatic evolution of the Fennoscandian subcontinental lithospheric mantle. At ~2.2-2.06 Ga, increased biological production in shallow seas linked to continental rifting, resulted in increased burial rates of organic carbon. Subduction between ~1.93-1.88 Ga returned organic carbon-enriched sediments of mixed Archean and Proterozoic provenance to the mantle. Dehydration reactions supplied water to the mantle wedge, driving arc volcanism, while mica, amphibole and carbonate were brought deeper into the mantle with the subducting slab. The cold subducted slab was heated conductively from the surrounding warm mantle, while pressures continued to gradually increase as a result of crustal thickening. The sediments began to melt in a two stage process, first producing a hydrous alkaline silicate melt, which infiltrated the mantle wedge and crystallised as metasomatic veins. At higher temperatures, carbonatite melt was produced, which preferentially infiltrated the pre-existing metasomatic vein network. At the onset of post-collisional extension, deep fault structures formed, providing conduits for mantle melts to reach the upper crust. Low-volume partial melting of the enriched mantle at depths of at least 110 km led to the formation of first carbonatitic magma and subsequently lamprophyric magma. Carbonatite was emplaced in the upper crust at Naantali at 1795.7 ± 6.8 Ma; lamprophyres along the Archean-Proterozoic boundary were emplaced between 1790.1 ± 3.3 Ma and 1781 ± 20 Ma.

Studies on 68Ga-Based Agents for PET Imaging of Cancer and Inflammation Positron emission tomography (PET) is based on the use of radiolabeled agents and facilitates in vivo imaging of biological processes, such as cancer. Because the detection of cancer is demanding and is often obscured by inflammation, there is a demand for better PET imaging agents. The aim was to preliminarily evaluate new PET agents for imaging cancer and inflammation using experimental models. 68Ga-chloride and peptides, 68Ga-labeled through 1,4,7,10-tetraazacyclododecane-1,4,7,10-tetraacetic acid (DOTA), targeting matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) were tested for tumor imaging. In addition, a 68Ga-DOTA-conjugated peptide targeting vascular adhesion protein-1 (VAP-1), was tested for inflammation imaging. The 68Ga-based imaging agents described here showed potential features by passing the essential in vitro tests, proceeding further to preclinical in vivo evaluation and being able to visualize the target. The target uptake and target-to-background ratios of 68Ga-based agents were, however, not optimal. 68Ga-chloride showed slow clearance caused by its binding to blood transferrin. In the case of 68Ga-DOTA-peptides low in vivo stability and/or low lipophilicity led to too rapid blood clearance and urinary excretion. The properties of 68Ga-labeled peptides are modifiable, as shown with matrix metalloproteinase-9 targeting ligands. In the conclusion of this PhD thesis, 68Ga-based agents for PET imaging of cancer and inflammation could be applied in the development of drugs, earlier diagnostics and following-up of the efficacy of therapies.

The aim of this study is to gain a better understanding of the structure and the deformation history of a NW-SE trending regional, crustal-scale shear structure in the Åland archipelago, SW Finland, called the Sottunga-Jurmo shear zone (SJSZ). Approaches involving e.g. structural geology, geochronology, geochemistry and metamorphic petrology were utilised in order to reconstruct the overall deformation history of the study area. The study therefore describes several features of the shear zone including structures, kinematics and lithologies within the study area, the ages of the different deformation phases (ductile to brittle) within the shear zone, as well as some geothermobarometric results. The results indicate that the SJSZ outlines a major crustal discontinuity between the extensively migmatized rocks NE of the shear zone and the unmigmatised, amphibolite facies rocks SW of the zone. The main SJSZ shows overall dextral lateral kinematics with a SW-side up vertical component and deformation partitioning into pure shear and simple shear dominated deformation styles that was intensified toward later stages of the deformation history. The deformation partitioning resulted in complex folding and refolding against the SW margin of the SJSZ, including conical and sheath folds, and in a formation of several minor strike-slip shear zones both parallel and conjugate to the main SJSZ in order to accommodate the regional transpressive stresses. Different deformation phases within the study area were dated by SIMS (zircon U-Pb), ID-TIMS (titanite U-Pb) and 40Ar/39Ar (pseudotachylyte wholerock) methods. The first deformation phase within the ca. 1.88 Ga rocks of the study area is dated at ca. 1.85 Ga, and the shear zone was reactivated twice within the ductile regime (at ca. 1.83 Ga and 1.79 Ga), during which the strain was successively increasingly partitioned into the main SJSZ and the minor shear zones. The age determinations suggest that the orogenic processes within the study area did not occur in a temporal continuum; instead, the metamorphic zircon rims and titanites show distinct, 10-20 Ma long breaks in deformation between phases of active deformation. The results of this study further imply slow cooling of the rocks through 600-700ºC so that at 1.79 Ga, 2 the temperature was still at least 600ºC. The highest recorded metamorphic pressures are 6.4-7.1 kbar. At the late stages or soon after the last ductile phase (ca. 1.79 Ga), relatively high-T mylonites and ultramylonites were formed, witnessing extreme deformation partitioning and high strain rates. After the rocks reached lower amphibolite facies to amphibolite-greenschist facies transitional conditions (ca. 500-550ºC), they cooled rapidly, probably due to crustal uplift and exhumation. The shear zone was reactivated at least once within the semi-brittle to brittle regime between ca. 1.79 Ga and 1.58 Ga, as evidenced by cataclasites and pseudotachylytes. In summary, the results of this study suggest that the Sottunga-Jurmo shear zone (and the South Finland shear zone) defines a major crustal discontinuity, and played a central role in accommodating the regional stresses during and after the Svecofennian orogeny.

Denna studie syftar till att via utformandet av en teoretisk modell nå ökad förståelse för hur människan erfar lidandet. Studien, som har en hermeneutisk ansats, fokuserar lidandet som drama och kamp, vilka beskrivs som lidandets form och substans. Data insamlades genom samtal med informanter från två kontext. Den ena informantgruppen som utgjordes av nio personer med drogrelaterade problem valdes med utgångspunkt i ett antagande om att missbruket härrör från ett livslidande. De övriga informanterna (nio stycken) söktes inom ett till det yttre kontrasterande kontext, de hjärtopererade patienternas. De texter dessa samtal genererade tolkades sedan med utgångspunkt i en hermeneutisk ansats, som hämtat metodologisk inspiration av Ricoeur och Helenius. Tolkningen ägde rum i flera steg och det meningsbärande söktes genom naiv tolkning, analys av textens struktur samt genom ett sökande efter alternativa tolkningar. Tolkningsprocessen resulterade en uppsättning teser vilka relaterades till undersökningens teoretiska perspektiv samt till en begreppsanalys av ’kamp’. Den teoretiska modellen tar fasta på lidandets kamp som en kamp mellan värdighet och skam, lust och olust. Denna kamp kan gestaltas i lidandets drama där människan på olika sätt söker lindring i lidandet. Detta kan ske genom att man försöker besegra lidandet, avtäcka det eller försonas med det. Ytterligare ett sätt att söka lindring är att ge upp lidandets kamp och resignera. I den teoretiska modellen gestaltas även hur människan kan förhålla sig till kampen på olika sätt beroende på vilket perspektiv hon har inför framtiden. Då människan uppfattar att framtiden präglas av ett hot om avskurenhet och död förhåller hon sig till livet på ett sådant sätt att lidandet dominerar. Om uppfattningen om framtiden präglas av liv och gemenskap kan hon förhålla sig till kampen som hälsa. När lidandet blir outhärdligt förlorar människan sin förankring i tiden. I och med att människan isoleras i nuet kan lidandet bemästras och begränsas till en konkret situation. För att en rörelse i hälsoprocesserna skall äga rum måste människan emellertid relatera till tiden. Relationen till en annan människa och skapandet av en lidandeberättelse innebär en möjlighet till förankring i tiden och därmed också till helande.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o efeito da temperatura, do tempo de armazenamento e de tratamentos pré-germinativos na porcentagem de emergência (%E) e no índice de velocidade de emergência (IVE) de jacarandá (Jacaranda cuspidifolia Mart.). O experimento foi conduzido em fatorial 5 x 2 x 4 (cinco períodos de armazenamento (0, 30, 60, 90 e 150 dias) x 2 temperaturas (12 ± 2º C e 25 ± 2º C) x 4 tratamentos pré-germinativos (1- Imersão em GA 125 mg L-1 /24 h; 2- Imersão em GA 250 mg L-1 /24 h; 3- Imersão em água quente; 4- Testemunha), em DIC com cinco repetições de 30 sementes. A emergência aumentou de 29% no tempo zero a 79% aos 150 dias, sendo que as sementes podem ser armazenadas por 150 dias, alcançando emergência superior a 70% sem nenhum tratamento pré-germinativo. Embora o IVE não tenha variado entre os tratamentos aos 150 dias nas sementes sob refrigeração (média de 0,82) e sob temperatura ambiente, o maior valor foi observado nas sementes tratadas com água quente e GA 250 mg.L-1 (0,41).

Avaliou-se o potencial de germinação das sementes de orelha-de-macaco após os tratamentos pré-germinativos e o crescimento inicial das mudas tratadas com ácido giberélico (GA) e sombreamento. As sementes receberem os seguintes tratamentos de escarificação + embebição: 1) H2SO4/5'; 2) H2SO4/5'+água/24 h; 3) H2SO4/5'+GA 200 mg.L-1/24 h; 4) H2SO4/5'+KNO3 1%/24 h; 5) H2SO4/10'; 6) H2SO4 /10' +água/24 h; 7) H2SO4/10'+GA 200 mg.L-1/24 h; 8) H2SO4 /10'+ KNO3 1%/24 h; 9) Água 24/ h; e 10) testemunha e a semeadura em casa de vegetação. As mudas foram tratadas com GA 0, 50 e 100 mg.L-1 e mantidas em sombrite 50% de sombra e a pleno sol até 180 dias após a semeadura. Não se observou germinação na testemunha e na imersão apenas em água. A emergência, TMPA, MSR e MSPA não variaram entre os tratamentos de escarificação (média de 89%; 6,55 cm; 0,08 g; e 1,8 g; e o TMR em H2SO4 /10'+ KNO3 (13,73 cm). Com base nesses resultados, as sementes podem ser escarificadas por 10'com H2SO4. As mudas a pleno sol apresentaram maior altura (51,94 cm), MSF (3,6 g), MSPA (7,21 g), MSR (4,27 g) e MST (11,59 g). A TAL, RAF e TCR não variaram entre os níveis de luz e tratamentos com GA. As doses de giberelina estudadas não alteraram o crescimento das mudas.

Chicken feet can be used as an alternative source of collagen for the development of new products. In this sense, the aim of this study was the production of a product similar to gelatin from collagen extracted from chicken feet and the evaluation of sensory quality. The products were produced in two distinct flavors, with grape flavor called GU and pineapple flavor called GA. Subsequently, we compared these formulations with gelatin of a trademark established in the market. We used in the verification of sensory acceptability of products a hedonic scale of 9 points and the availability of consuming the product by 30 untrained tasters. According to the results, all formulations showed good levels of acceptability, indicating the collagen from chicken feet as an alternative source of high quality in the production of gelatin.

OBJETIVO: Estudar as alterações hemodinâmicas e respiratórias em ratos submetidos ou não ao pneumoperitônio com CO2, sob anestesia com ou sem intubação intratraqueal. MÉTODO: Ratos machos (n = 40), albinos, com peso médio de 300g, idade de três meses, foram randonizados em quatro grupos: GA - anestesia com intubação endotraqueal por uma hora e com pneumoperitônio de 4mmHg de CO2; GB - anestesia sem intubação endotraqueal por uma hora e com pneumoperitônio de 4mmHg de CO2; GC - anestesia sem intubação endotraqueal por uma hora e sem pneumoperitônio; GD - anestesia com intubação endotraqueal por uma hora, sem pneumoperitônio. Foram registrados os valores da pressão arterial média (PAM), pressão parcial de gás carbônico (pCO2), freqüência cardíaca (FC), freqüência respiratória (FR), pressão venosa central (PVC), potencial hidrogeniônico acidose (pH), saturação de oxigênio periférico (spO2), bicarbonato (HCO3-) e saturação de oxigênio no sangue arterial (SO2,). Os dados foram coletados no início do experimento (M0), após 30 minutos (M1) e após 60 minutos (M2). RESULTADOS: Em GA e GC (grupos com pneumoperitônio) ocorreu aumento da PAM, PCO2, HCO3-, FR, PVC e uma diminuição do pH, SO2, spO2 e da FC em relação aos animais sem pneumoperitônio. Por outro lado a intubação intratraqueal demonstrou atenuar estas alterações nos animais com até uma hora de anestesia. CONCLUSÃO: A anestesia geral com intubação endotraqueal associada ao pneumoperitônio de 4mmHg, por um período de uma hora, mostrou vantagens do ponto de vista respiratório e hemodinâmico, em relação aos animais com pneumoperitônio e sem intubação e também sobre aqueles com até quatro horas de anestesia, apesar da intubação.
