The paper proposes novel substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) slot antenna for E-band communications. The antenna is designed at a two-layer low temperature co-fired ceramic (LTCC) substrate in 71-76 GHz frequency band. The proposed antenna demonstrates a gain better than 11.3 dBi and efficiency of 85% and can be used as a standalone antenna or as an element of a larger array.

The paper reports on the mm-wave characterization of a low temperature co-fired ceramic (LTCC) substrate. A substrate integrated resonator (SIW) method is presented for robust extraction of both permittivity and loss tangent of the substrate. The data obtained allow full characterization of the substrate in the 71 GHz – 95 GHz frequency range suitable for accurate modelling of E-and W-band printed circuits.

This essay focuses on the lessons of Love’s Labour’s Lost’s pageboy-schoolboy-boy actor, Moth, to examine the production of boyhood in early modern culture. It reads Shakespeare’s boy character alongside John Marston’s schoolboy, Holofernes Pippo, in What You Will to investigate the ways in which school lessons might be deployed to produce aged and gendered identities that complicate traditional understandings of early modern masculinity. Reading the comic staging of lessons in these plays, it will suggest that while the educational system aimed to produce gendered subjects, early modern masculine identities exist as a range of categories on a developmental scale. It will propose that although Moth and Pippo comically expose the limits of many pedagogical methods to produce ‘men’, they demonstrate the ways in which these characters learn to be boys. Finally, it will consider the extent to which this production of early modern age and gender identity in the plays is paralleled by the historical boy actors performing these roles.

In this paper results are presented for a simple yet highly sensitive transceiver for phase modulated RFID applications. This is an advance on other simple RFID readers which can only operate with amplitude shift keyed (ASK) signals. Simple circuitry is achieved by the use of a novel injection locked PLL configuration which replaces the standard superhet type architecture normally used. The transceiver is shown to operate with a number of phase modulation modes which have certain advantages relating to distance to target. The paper concludes with practical results obtained for the transceiver when operated within a backscatter RFID application. A unique advantage of this transceiver is its complete immunity to the problem of TX/RX isolation, allowing for long ranges, estimated to be in the region of 80m at 1 GHz, to be achieved even in the presence of a simple backscatter target.

This paper proposes a novel method of detecting packed executable files using steganalysis, primarily targeting the detection of obfuscated malware through packing. Considering that over 80% of malware in the wild is packed, detection accuracy and low false negative rates are important properties of malware detection methods. Experimental results outlined in this paper reveal that the proposed approach achieving an overall detection accuracy of greater than 99%, a false negative rate of 1% and a false positive rate of 0%.

An outlier removal based data cleaning technique is proposed to
clean manually pre-segmented human skin data in colour images.
The 3-dimensional colour data is projected onto three 2-dimensional
planes, from which outliers are removed. The cleaned 2 dimensional
data projections are merged to yield a 3D clean RGB data. This data
is finally used to build a look up table and a single Gaussian classifier
for the purpose of human skin detection in colour images.
