The new technologies have increasingly provided access to foreign languages and cultures and also to authentic communication. If we consider that the foreign languages teaching/learning process and teacherseducation can be enriched by telecollaboration, I believe it is necessary to observe the roles played by language teachers. Based on an ethnographic qualitative study carried out with Brazilian and foreign university students, this paper focuses on teletandem practice, a distance tandem modality carried out by audio and video conferences with resources such as Windows Live Messenger, Skype or ooVoo, to investigate roles played by language teachers in telecollaborative practice. The data were collected from (a) e-mails exchanged between the partners and between partners and the mediator-teacher; (b) DVDs of interaction sessions recordings; (c) written teletandem sessions recordings; (d) recordings of interviews between the partners and the researcher at ooVoo; (e) fi eld notes taken at Teletandem Laboratory at UNESP- Assis; and (f) participants’ written reports. The data analysis, from the hermeneutic interpretative perspective, revealed that the teacher is not ignored but is given new roles to maximize the process towards meaningful and intercultural learning.

This paper presents some reflections regarding Spanish/FL teachers professional development process, considering their experiences in the context of the project “Center for Languages and Teachers Development”, UNESP – Assis. The study aimed to develop a space for reflection and to identify the main concerns that the teachers-students have in their initial education trajectory. To do so, we use the qualitative approach principles and the narrative research method.

Environmental education (EE) is considered an essential component in individual education and requires prepared professionals to deal with the issues it covers. Teacher’s education courses should include the environmental dimension in their curriculum. Nevertheless, studies show that the EE in degrees occurs in an incipient way. This research aimed to analyze the inclusion of environmental issues in Biological Science teacher formation courses, at public universities in São Paulo. We analyzed the summaries of the disciplines in the curriculum of the courses in relation to the number of threads that refer to environmental issues. We found that the courses analyzed include the environmental dimension in the summaries of some disciplines, but in most of them, in an insignificant way. We also found that, in most cases, the disciplines are restricted to ecological aspects of environmental issues. We conclude that the investigated courses do not meet the recommendations of the legislation as regards the inclusion of the environmental dimension in the curriculum of teacher’s education.

In this work we propose a reflection on education and, more specifically, on theprocess of teacher’s education. To approach this discussion we assume the necessityof addressing this issue in its complexity. We used the multi-referential approachthat has the perspective to study educational phenomena considering the heterogeneitytypical of educational relationships. We are holding this discussion by identifyingseveral aspects of the formation of teachers from the fields of education andpsychoanalysis. This route allowed us to deepen and clarify some concepts: education, the teaching relationship, the experienced and lived, suggesting perspectives for theprocess of teacher´s education.

This study aimed at both identifying possibilities of communicative action that occur in the formative trajectory of Science teachers, and therefore collaborate in the discussion on the rationality approach that supports teacher education. Therefore, we hope to contribute for the construction of a formative model that encourages human emancipation. For this purpose, we draw concepts from Communicative Action Theory proposed by Jürgen Habermas. Data were obtained by half-structuralized interviews. Although strategic actions predominate among those used by teachers during their education period, we observed some tension focus could be identified, better recognized and built up in order to enlarge possibilities of increasing communicative actions in teacher education. We identified political and epistemological factors as obstacles for these possibilities to materialize.

By establishing a relationship among several sections of Biology, the theory of the evolution enables a more systemized and less fragmented education of this science. However, students seem to have difficulties of understanding the concept of biological evolution, by virtue of misunderstanding conceptual and historical data present in textbooks, among other causes. One of these mentioned distortions is the shock between Lamarck and Darwin’s ideas. We aimed, in this work, to investigate the understanding of Biology’s students in pre-service teachers education concerning the Lamarck and Darwin’s theories at different moments of the Evolution discipline. For this, some steps had been followed: 1) Verification of the previous conceptions; 2) Elaboration of a pedagogical material, containing diverse historical texts of primary and secondary sources; 3) Debates in two didactic modules, using the pedagogical material elaborated; 4) Analysis of the conceptions constructed by the students, from the didactic intervention. The results obtained show the preconceptions of the students interviewed, concerning the Lamarck and Darwin’s theories, resemble the explanations presented in textbooks and the insertion of historical texts in the Evolution lessons can be an interesting strategy to construction of knowledge of this theme

This paper is a theoretical review where we present teachers’ formative trajectories, according to concepts and significations from teachers' education literature, bibliography references to the UNESP Science Education Research Group. We summarize, in an overview table, different typologies associated to teachers' formative and professional development, trying to establish relationships among them. This study is aimed at to rethink these trajectories, in order to provide subsidies for future investigation in this research line.

This research deals with teacherseducation, discussing elements related to the teachers’ knowledge and discursive interaction. Teaching knowledge can be mobilized in different situations and spaces; however, here, we considered them in the classroom environment and the interactive context among teacher-students and students-students. We analyzed the discursive interactions in a 23 future high school physics teachers sample, observed during the development of activities of supervised teaching, in an undergraduate teachers’ initial education program, in one of the São Paulo State universities, in Brazil. The main research question was: which teachers’ knowledge is mobilized by future high physics teachers during the interactive discursive context aiming the construction of scientific knowledge by students? Data showed that in the communicative interaction process in the classroom the student-teachers mobilized teaching knowledge related to the content and to its pedagogy.

Taking into consideration various argumentation perspectives, the introduction of Modern and Contemporary Physics at High School level has been defended by various researchers. In the present qualitative nature research, we heard and interpreted ten High School physics teachers’ discourses, aiming to analyze how their initial education, regarding to Modern and Contemporary Physics, was based in a rationality which matches with the communicative and the dialogical actions. Teachers of our sample were individually interviewed and, at that time, they had finished their initial undergraduate program at least five years before. Teachers’ discourses interpretation was supported by some French school discourse analysis’ concepts, Jürgen Habermas’ communicative action, Freire’s dialogical action, as well as teacherseducation research critical referential. The discourses interpretations evidenced that these teacherseducation, with respect to Modern and Contemporary Physics, was mainly based in technical-instrumental rationality basis. This perspective did not help teachers’ autonomy construction in order to work these subjects in their classes, mainly in a perspective coherent with the teachers’ emancipation, producing reflexes in classroom physics teaching. The study evidenciates the necessity of future teachers’ professors revise theirs teaching practice, as well studying other curricular structures, regarding to Modern and Contemporary Physics teaching.
