By means of a surface plastic deformation method a nanocrystalline (NC) intermetallic compound was in situ synthesized on the surface layer of bulk zirconium (Zr). Hardened steel shots (composition: 1.0C, 1.5Cr, base Fe in wt.%) were used to conduct repetitive and multidirectional peening on the surface layer of Zr. The microstructure evolution of the surface layer was investigated by X-ray diffraction and scanning and transmission electron microscopy observations. The NC intermetallic layer of about 25 gm thick was observed and confirmed by concentration profiles of Zr, Fe and Cr, and was found to consist of the Fe100-xCrx compound with an average grain size of 22 nm. The NC surface layer exhibited an extremely high average hardness of 10.2 GPa. The Zr base immediately next to the compound/Zr interface has a grain size of similar to 250 nm, and a hardness of similar to 3.4 GPa. The Fe100-xCrx layer was found to securely adhere to the Zr base. (c) 2007 Elsevier B.V All rights reserved.

Resumen: El presente trabajo aborda la caracterización socio-ambiental de un tramo de la cuenca del Río Carcarañá que atraviesa el sur de la Provincia de Santa Fe, en Argentina. El sector de interés ha sido especialmente afectado por el desarrollo de la agricultura extensiva que, si bien ha sido un elemento determinante del crecimiento económico y de la expansión tanto de las áreas de uso agropecuario, como del medio urbano y recreacional hacia el rural, ha sido sometido a un uso extensivo que requiere analizar la vulnerabilidad ambiental de la cuenca por pérdida de bienes y servicios ecosistémicos, evaluar el soporte ambiental, el uso de los recursos y la sostenibilidad ambiental. Para lograr este objetivo se propone el empleo de La metodologia multimodal, para generar un marco de evaluaciones tanto sociales como biofísicas y energéticas y además bosquejar modelos empíricos y/o teóricos que permitan interpretar la dinámica de los diferentes contaminantes en la cuenca, así como las preocupaciones de la población con relación a estos temas.

Investigations made by the authors and collaborators into the microstructural aspects of adiabatic shear localization are critically reviewed. The materials analyzed are low-carbon steels, 304 stainless steel, monocrystalline Fe-Ni-Cr, Ti and its alloys, Al-Li alloys, Zircaloy, copper, and Al/SiCp composites. The principal findings are the following: (a) there is a strain-rate-dependent critical strain for the development of shear bands; (b) deformed bands and white-etching bands correspond to different stages of deformation; (c) different slip activities occur in different stages of band development; (d) grain refinement and amorphization occur in shear bands; (e) loss of stress-carrying capability is more closely associated with microdefects rather than with localization of strain; (f) both crystalline rotation and slip play important roles; and (g) band development and band structures are material dependent. Additionally, avenues for new research directions are suggested.

La política de fomento inmigratorio impulsada en la Argentina a partir de mediados del siglo XIX incluyó, entre sus objetivos, el de generar un cambio de costumbres en la población nativa. En este artículo, además de describirse la realidad resultante como consecuencia de la incorporación de pautas culturales foráneas, se analizan –desde un recorte espacial santafesino centrado en las dos últimas décadas del siglo XIX– comportamientos puestos de manifiesto por las élites políticas e intelectuales de la provincia con respecto a las costumbres nacionales y extranjeras. Lo que se busca es evaluar si dichos comportamientos pudieron encontrarse condicionados por las diferentes adscripciones político-ideológicas y/o por las variantes circunstancias históricas.

Experiments of laser welding cast nickel-based superalloy K418 were conducted. Microstructure of the welded seam was characterized by optical microscopy (OM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS). Mechanical properties of the welded seam were evaluated by microhardness. The corresponding mechanisms were discussed in detail. Results show that the laser welded seam have non-equilibrium solidified microstructures consisting of Cr-Ni-Fe-C austenite solid solution dendrites as the dominant and some fine and dispersed Ni-3(Al,Ti) gamma' phase as well as little amount of MC needle carbides and particles enriched in Nb, Ti and Mo distributed in the interdendritic regions, cracks originated from the liquation of the low melting points eutectics in the HAZ grain boundary are observed, the average microhardness of the welded seam and HAZ is higher than that of the base metal due to alloy elements' redistribution of the strengthening phase gamma'. Thickness and component distributions of large-area thin films are an issue of international concern in the field of material processing. The present work employs experiments and direct simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC) method to investigate three-dimensional low-density, non-equilibrium jets of yttrium and titanium vapor atoms in an electron-beams physical vapor deposition (EBPVD) system furnished with two or three electron-beams, and obtains their deposition thickness and component distributions onto 4-inch and 6-inch mono-crystal silicon wafers. The DSMC results are found in excellent agreement with our measurements, such as evaporation rates of yttrium and titanium measured in-situ by quartz crystal resonators, deposited film thickness distribution measured by Rutherford backscattering spectrometer (RBS) and surface profilometer and deposited film molar ratio distribution measured by RBS and inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometer (ICP-AES). This can be taken as an indication that a combination of DSMC method with elaborate measurements may be satisfactory for predicting and designing accurately the transport process of EBPVD at the atomic level.

Various Plasma Electrolytic Oxidation (PEO) ceramic coatings were prepared on LY12 aluminum alloy by adjusting the concentration of sodium silicate solution. Optical microscope (OM), XRD and EIS were used to study their morphology, composition and anti corrosion behavior in NaCl solution. Increasing concentration of sodium silicate leads to the increase of the total coating thickness while too high and too low concentration lead to the decrease of inner dense layer. The main composition of PEO coatings prepared in 20, 40 and above 60g/L concentration solution are correspondingly alumina, alumina with mullite, and amorphous phase. The corrosion resistance is determined by the inner dense layer. Increasing the thickness of inner dense layer can improve the anti-corrosion performance. PEO coating's corrosion resistance in acidic, alkaline and neutral NaCl solution is proved and the corrosion mechanism involved is also discussed.

Microstructure characterization is important for controlling the quality of laser welding. In the present work, a detailed microstructure characterization by transmission electron microscopy was carried out on the laser welding cast Ni-based superalloy K418 turbo disk and alloy steel 42CrMo shaft and an unambiguous identification of phases in the weldment was accomplished. It was found that there are gamma-FeCrNiC austenite solid solution dendrites as the matrix, (Nb, Ti) C type MC carbides, fine and dispersed Ni-3 Al gamma' phase as well as Laves particles in the interdendritic region of the seam zone. This paper combines the four-point bending test, SEM and finite element method to study the interface fracture property of PEO coatings on aluminum alloy. The interface failure mode of the coating on the compression side is revealed. The ceramic coating crack firstly along the 45 degrees to the interface, then the micro crack in the coating deduces the interface crack. The plastic deformation observed by SEM shows excellent adhesion property between the coating and substrate. The plastic deformation in the substrate is due to the interfacial crack extension, so the interface crack mode of PEO coatings is ductile crack. Resumen: En el estudio de los procesos migratorios contemporáneos se ha indicado la importancia de considerar la situación de emigración (Sayad 2011; Herrera Mosquera 2008). Proponemos abordar ello desde las referencias que los migrantes realizan sobre sus trayectorias sobre la base de un corpus de entrevistas y observaciones realizadas entre 2010 y 2013 con la población de migrantes paraguayos del Gran Rosario (Santa Fe, Argentina), desde un enfoque cualitativo y antropológico. En particular, haremos referencia a la atención sanitaria y la escolarización que, sin ser indicados como motivos directos de migración, expresan significativas connotaciones valorativas que introducen la noción de “deuda” desde una lógica reciprocitaria. Lo que nos permite analizar, desde los aportes de M. Godelier (1998), los posicionamientos que los migrantes establecen respecto del Estado y la sociedad de origen y de destino. Concluiremos considerando ello en relación al debate más general sobre derechos y ciudadanía en contextos de migración.

Exploratory experiments of laser welding cast Ni-based superalloy K418 turbo disk and alloy steel 42CrMo shaft were conducted. Microstructure of the welded seam was characterized by optical microscopy (OM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), energy-dispersive spectrometer (EDS). Mechanical properties of the welded seam were evaluated by microhardness and tensile strength testing. The corresponding mechanisms were discussed in detail. Results showed that the laser-welded seam had non-equilibrium solidified microstructures consisting of FeCr0.29Ni0.16C0.06 austenite solid solution dendrites as the dominant and some fine and dispersed Ni3Al gamma' phase and Laves particles as well as little amount of MC short stick or particle-like carbides distributed in the interdendritic regions. The average microhardness of the welded seam was relatively uniform and lower than that of the base metal due to partial dissolution and suppression of the strengthening phase gamma' to some extent. About 88.5% tensile strength of the base metal was achieved in the welded joint because of a non-full penetration welding and the fracture mechanism was a mixture of ductility and brittleness. The existence of some Laves particles in the welded seam also facilitated the initiation and propagation of the microcracks and microvoids and hence, the detrimental effects of the tensile strength of the welded joint. Resumen: Los nuevos conocimientos que traen las ciencias y las explicaciones que proponen son todo un tema de reflexión para los científicos, los filósofos y los que se preocupan de pensar en su fe y en su religión. Estos problemas son múltiples y variados, pero tienen un núcleo en cuanto se presentan en la relación Ciencias- Filosofía y Ciencias-Teología. ¿Podemos decir o considerar que revelan la misma problemática? Este trabajo quiere contestar a esta pregunta, esperando mostrar que existe una problemática general más apropiada de aquella en la que los problemas están tratados hoy en día.

Resumen: Promover el diálogo de la Iglesia con las culturas de nuestro tiempo resulta inobjetable. El Concilio Ecuménico Vaticano II se pronunció en este sentido, en comunión histórica con distintas civilizaciones, hace ya medio siglo; asimismo, destacó la necesidad para los creyentes de comprender a fondo la manera de pensar y de sentir de los demás hombres de la propia época, y dedicó a esta temática toda una sección de la Constitución Pastoral Gaudium et spes. El campo de la economía, bajo esta idea, hubo de subsumirse con carácter sistemático a un estrecho criterio de racionalidad, según el cual tanto la acción humana individual como la política a nivel general se consideraron determinadas por cálculos y valoraciones de costos y beneficios a través de un juicio de optimización.

A thick amorphous alloy (a-alloy) coating was synthesized by laser cladding. The a-alloy had a multicomponent chemistry, i.e., Ni66Cr5MO4Zr6P15B4 (in atom%). The maximum thickness of the coating is 0.8 mm. The a-alloy coating had large glass-forming ability (GFA) with wide supercooled liquid region (SLR) ranging from 52 to 61 K through the coating.
