Accreditation models in the international context mainly consider the evaluation of learning outcomes and the ability of programs (or higher education institutions) to achieve the educational objectives stated in their mission. However, it is not clear if these objectives and therefore their outcomes satisfy real national and regional needs, a critical point in engineering master's programs, especially in developing countries. The aim of this paper is to study the importance of the local relevancy evaluation of these programs and to analyze the main models of quality assurance and accreditation bodies of USA, Europe and Latin America, in order to ascertain whether the relevancy is evaluated or not. After a literature review, we found that in a free-market economic context and international education, the accreditation of master’s programs follows an international accreditation model, and doesn´t take in account in most cases criteria and indicators for local relevancy. It concludes that it is necessary both, international accreditation to ensure the effectiveness of the program (achievement of learning outcomes) and the national accreditation through which it could ensure local relevancy of programs, for which we are giving some indicators.

Several models for context-sensitive analysis of modular programs have been proposed, each with different characteristics and representing different trade-offs. The advantage of these context-sensitive analyses is that they provide information which is potentially more accurate than that provided by context-free analyses. Such information can then be applied to validating/debugging the program and/or to specializing the program in order to obtain important performance improvements. Some very preliminary experimental results have also been reported for some of these models which provided initial evidence on their potential. However, further experimentation, which is needed in order to understand the many issues left open and to show that the proposed modes scale and are usable in the context of large, real-life modular programs, was left as future work. The aim of this paper is two-fold. On one hand we provide an empirical comparison of the different models proposed in previous work, as well as experimental data on the different choices left open in those designs. On the other hand we explore the scalability of these models by using larger modular programs as benchmarks. The results have been obtained from a realistic implementation of the models, integrated in a production-quality compiler (CiaoPP/Ciao). Our experimental results shed light on the practical implications of the different design choices and of the models themselves. We also show that contextsensitive analysis of modular programs is indeed feasible in practice, and that in certain critical cases it provides better performance results than those achievable by analyzing the whole program at once, specially in terms of memory consumption and when reanalyzing after making changes to a program, as is often the case during program development.

This paper presents and proves some fundamental results for independent and-parallelism (IAP). First, the paper treats the issues of correctness and efficiency: after defining strict and non-strict goal independence, it is proved that if strictly independent goals are executed in parallel the solutions obtained are the same as those produced by standard sequential execution. It is also shown that, in the absence of failure, the parallel proof procedure doesn't genérate any additional work (with respect to standard SLDresolution) while the actual execution time is reduced. The same results hold even if non-strictly independent goals are executed in parallel, provided a trivial rewriting of such goals is performed. In addition, and most importantly, treats the issue of compile-time generation of IAP by proposing conditions, to be written at compile-time, to efficiently check strict and non-strict goal independence at run-time and proving the sufficiency of such conditions. It is also shown how simpler conditions can be constructed if some information regarding the binding context of the goals to be executed in parallel is available to the compiler trough either local or program-level analysis. These results therefore provide a formal basis for the automatic compile-time generation of IAP. As a corollary of such results, the paper also proves that negative goals are always non-strictly independent, and that goals which share a first occurrence of an existential variable are never independent.

Bruynooghe described a framework for the top-down abstract interpretation of logic programs. In this framework, abstract interpretation is carried out by constructing an abstract and-or tree in a top-down fashion for a given query and program. Such an abstract interpreter requires fixpoint computation for programs which contain recursive predicates. This paper presents in detail a fixpoint algorithm that has been developed for this purpose and the motivation behind it. We start off by describing a simple-minded algorithm. After pointing out its shortcomings, we present a series of refinements to this algorithm, until we reach the final version. The aim is to give an intuitive grasp and provide justification for the relative complexity of the final algorithm. We also present an informal proof of correctness of the algorithm and some results obtained from an implementation.

The engineering careers models were diverse in Europe, and are adopting now in Spain the Bolonia process for European Universities. Separated from older Universities, that are in part technically active, Civil Engineering (Caminos, Canales y Puertos) started at end of 18th century in Spain adopting the French models of Upper Schools for state civil servants with exam at entry. After 1800 intense wars, to conserve forest regions Ingenieros de Montes appeared as Upper School, and in 1855 also the Ingenieros Agrónomos to push up related techniques and practices. Other Engineers appeared as Upper Schools but more towards private factories. These ES got all adapted Lower Schools of Ingeniero Tecnico. Recently both grew much in number and evolved, linked also to recognized Professions. Spanish society, into European Community, evolved across year 2000, in part highly well, but with severe discordances, that caused severe youth unemployment with 2008-2011 crisis. With Bolonia process high formal changes step in from 2010-11, accepted with intense adaptation. The Lower Schools are changing towards the Upper Schools, and both that have shifted since 2010-11 various 4-years careers (Grado), some included into the precedent Professions, and diverse Masters. Acceptation of them to get students has started relatively well, and will evolve, and acceptation of new grades for employment in Spain, Europe or outside will be essential. Each Grado has now quite rigid curricula and programs, MOODLE was introduced to connect pupils, some specific uses of Personal Computers are taught in each subject. Escuela de Agronomos centre, reorganized with its old name in its precedent buildings at entrance of Campus Moncloa, offers Grados of Agronomic Engineering and Science for various public and private activities for agriculture, Alimentary Engineering for alimentary activities and control, Agro-Environmental Engineering more related to environment activities, and in part Biotechnology also in laboratories in Campus Monte-Gancedo for Biotechnology of Plants and Computational Biotechnology. Curricula include Basics, Engineering, Practices, Visits, English, ?project of end of career?, Stays. Some masters will conduce to specific professional diploma, list includes now Agro-Engineering, Agro-Forestal Biotechnology, Agro and Natural Resources Economy, Complex Physical Systems, Gardening and Landscaping, Rural Genie, Phytogenetic Resources, Plant Genetic Resources, Environmental Technology for Sustainable Agriculture, Technology for Human Development and Cooperation.

This paper aims to analyse the use of anabolic drugs among Greek students participating in school championships of physical education (PE). In order to do it, a survey was conducted during the 2008 to 2009 academic year in suburban, urban and metropolitan areas in Greece. The sample was 2,535 high school students from the 10 to 12th grade, participating in the school physical education championships. The results showed that 9.6% of boys and 3.7% of girls reported that they had used anabolic drugs sometime in the past whereas 11.2% boys and 4.8% girls reported that they would intend to use them in the future. This confirms that anabolic steroids are an important problem among adolescents, and educational programs should increase their knowledge about these drugs. Information should come not only from the state, but also from coaches, teachers, trainers and parents.

The third Training School of the Action took place in Vitoria-Gasteiz (Basque country, Spain) from 24th to 26th September 2014. Vitoria-Gateiz has experimented an important urban outgrowth in the last decade, mainly through the planning and development of two new neighborhoods, Zabalgana and Salburúa, situated at the eastern and western border of the city, by the Greenbelt. These new development are well-equipped and designed according to sustainability principles. Nevertheless, among the main problems they present is their over-dimensioned public space, which creates some areas lacking enough density and mix of uses. On the other hand it is very expensive for the municipality to maintain these public space with the high Vitorian urban standards for public space. The proposed solution for this problem is a strategy of "re-densification" through the insertion of new uses The debate has arisen about which are the most adequate uses to insert in order to get an increasing of urban vitality, specially considering that housing has reached its peak and that Vitoria-Gasteiz is well served with social and sport amenities. The main goal of the TS was to offer an opportunity for the reflection about how urban agriculture might be an optimal alternative for the re-qualifying of this over-dimensioned public space in the new neighbourhoods, especially considering it synergic potential as a tool for production, leisure and landscaping, including the possibility of energy crops within the limits of urban space. Continuity with rural and natural surrounding area through alternatives for urban fringe at the small scale is a relevant issue to be considered as well within the reflection. Taking Zabalgana neighbourhood as a practical field for experiment, the Training School is conceived as a practical and intensive design charrette to be held during a whole day after two days of local knowledge-deepening through field visits and presentations.

ABSTRACT Introduction. Obesity can be defined as a chronic metabolic disease from a multifactorial origin, which leads to physical and psychological impacts to the person, with associated pathologies that limit the life expectancy and deteriorate the quality of it, being determinant for the social and labor areas of the person. This chronic metabolic disorder is characterized by an excessive accumulation of energy in the body as fat, leading to increased weight relative to the value expected by sex, age and height. The management and treatment of obesity have wider objectives than weight loss alone and include risk reduction and health improvement. These may be achieved by modest weight loss (i.e. 5–10% of initial body weight), improved nutritional content of the diet and modest increases in physical activity and fitness. Weight loss through diet is one of the most popular approaches to lose body weight. Exercise is another alternative to lose body weight. The increase of exercise causes an imbalance when the caloric intake is maintained. It also has advantages such as improved muscle tone, cardiovascular fitness, strength and flexibility, increases the basal metabolism and improves immune system. Objectives. The aim of this thesis is to contribute with an interventional study to clarify the evolution of the body weight during a diet and exercise intervention. For this, the effects of age, sex, initial body mass index and type of treatment on weight loss tendencies were evaluated. Another objective of the thesis was to create a multiple linear regression model able to predict the body weight loss after the intervention period. And, finally, to determine the effect upon body composition (body weight, body mass index, fat mass, and fat-free mass of different exercise-based interventions (strength, endurance, combined endurance and strength, and physical activity recommendations group (control group)) combined with diet in overweight and obese adults, after intervention as well as body composition changes 3 years later. Research Design. The data used in the analysis of this thesis are part of the project "Programs of Nutrition and Physical Activity for the treatment of obesity" (PRONAF). The PRONAF project is a clinical trial program about nutrition and physical activity for overweight and obesity, developed in Spain for several years of intervention. It was designed, in part, to compare different types of intervention, in order to assess their impact on the dynamics of weight loss in overweight and obese people. As experimental design, the study was based on caloric restriction, which, in some cases, added a training protocol (strength, endurance, or combined in equal volume and intensity). The main research variables comprising this thesis were: body weight and body composition outcomes (fat mass and fat-free mass). Conclusions. In this thesis, for weight loss programs in overweight and obese people with 25-30% of caloric restriction, the body weight was significantly decreased in both sexes, regardless the age and type of followed treatment. According to the results of the study, the weight loss performed by an individual (male or female) during six months can be represented by any of the five functions (linear, power law, exponential, logarithmic and quadratic) in both sexes, being the quadratic one which tends to represent it better. In addition, it can be concluded that the body weight loss is affected by the initial body mass index and sex condition, being greater for the obese people than for the overweight one, showing differences between sexes only in the overweight condition. Moreover, it is possible to calculate the final body weight of any participant engaged in an intervention using the PRONAF Project methodology only knowing their initial body composition variables. Furthermore, the four types of treatments had similar results on body composition changes at the end of the intervention period, with the only exception of fat-free mass, being the training groups the ones that maintained it during the caloric restriction. On the other hand, only the combined group achieved to maintain the fat mass (%) reduced 3 years after the end of the intervention.

ABSTRACT The Thesis decodes a selection of twenty representative Sejima-SANAA projects, from the first one built, the Platform I House in 1987, to the Rolex Center in 2010, year in which Sejima and Nishizawa –SANAA- received the Pritzker Prize. Eleven projects are from Sejima: Platform I, Platform II, Saishunkan Seiyaku Women´s Dormitory, N- House, Pachinco Parlor I, Villa in the Forest, Policy Box at Chofu Station, Y-House, Gifu Kitigata Apartment, World City Expo ´96 Facilities Building, Pachinko Parlor III; and nine from SANAA: Multimedia Workshop in Ogaki, Metropolitan Housing Studies, Park Café in Koga, De Kunstlinie in Almere, Kanazawa Museum, Glass Pavilion at the Toledo Museum of Art, Zollverein School, Flower House and the Rolex Center. This decoding reads the Sejima-SANAA’s projects inversely aiming ‘to reconstruct', in a fictitious simulation exercise, a likely and coherent version of what her/their projectual processes ‘could’ have been; ‘could’, because the true ones are impossible to explain. The ones proposed here pretend only to be likely and reasonable. By so doing the Thesis tries to contribute to the understanding and comprehension of Sejima-SANAA architecture and, tangentially and to a lesser extent, to the theory of architectural projects exercise. Decoding centers in two specific aspects: architectural form, and projectual role of the load bearing structure. Both decodes inevitably extend to other related aspects such as, for example, the nature of space. The research procedure begun by carrying out an objective and detailed description of the formal and structural signifiers of each project; looking at them from their physical and geometric configuration. Taken to the limit, the ‘objective’ descriptions allowed the conceptual structures and underlying logics of each project to arise. Together with critical interpretations, which related and confronted them with other architectures and well-known projectual working ways, it became possible to outline and trace the intended fictitious reconstruction decodes. The descriptive analytical work materialized in twenty critical essays, and was accompanied by a set of other essays on subjects suggested or demanded by the research process. Together, all those texts were the material basis on which thesis work was built. Looking at the whole and taking it from there, the thesis identifies two related projectual trajectories: a trajectory of formal strategies and a trajectory of strategies having to do with structural systems and components. Both, together, constitute the bulk of the thesis, as presented in the four central chapters. Preceding them there is an introductory chapter outlining the biographical path of Kazuyo Sejima and the professional trajectory of Sejima-SANAA. And following them there is another one containing transversal texts on form, place and space. The thesis ends with a synthesis on conclusions. The formal strategies are displayed in three chapters. The first one, `Early formal strategies' groups the first phase projects by Sejima. The second one, ‘Formal strategies of Gifu’s paradigm’, is entirely dedicated to the Gifu apartments project, 1994-98, which according to this thesis meant an important inflexion point in Sejima’s trajectory; so much so that the third chapter is named `Formal strategies after Gifu' and gathers the selected projects that followed it. The ‘Early formal strategies', diverse and tentative, move in general around two well-known projectual composition methods ‘composition by parts’, and ‘systematic composition’. This last one –systematic composition- begins and leads in SANAA’s trajectory an aspect which will remain relevant from here on: the understanding of the project as if it were an specific instance of a generic proposal in which -below and beyond the project tangible reality- there lays a logic that could be applicable at other places, for other dimensions, even with other programs; from each project, other projects of the same family could rise. The set of projects using this systematic composition method include, among others, the ‘Platform II House, based on the definition of a constructive element and of rules having to do with its replicas and their possible groupings. It also includes the Saishunkan Seiyaku Women Residence -project that launched Sejima to international fame- that could also be seen as a system, but of a different kind: a system based on the regular repetition of a series of elements along a directive line, thus generating a hypothetical infinite container of which the project would be only a fragment. The formal strategy of the Gifu apartments building would push further towards the generic project concept, adopting the logic of a game. The project would be a bout, a round, one play…, but not the only possible one; others could be played. The thesis confirms this game hypothesis -after having formulated `The Game of Gifu' and identified its elements (board, chips, rules and procedures)- playing the one play from which the building as projected by Sejima would have raised. Gifu extends the concept of ‘repeating a constructive element’ to that of ‘repeating a space pattern element’, and to what it implies: the decoupling of form and function, leading to a new concept of flexibility that no longer refers to the flexible use of the constructed building but to the projectual moment at which the specific functions are assigned to the space patterns. This thesis proposes that this allocation of functions would be one of the last steps in projectual process, quite opposite from the modern premise: “form follows function”. The Formal strategies after Gifu do also have a game logic; but, as their names reveal, each strategy responds to a different game: ‘Game Boards’, present with different maturity levels in several projects; ‘Elements from a Catalogue’, in the Kanazawa Museum; ‘Aprioristic Form’, in the Flower House; and ‘Repetition of a topologic situation', in the Rolex Center. All of these strategies, or games, maintain common aspects having to do with architectural form; aspects that were already present, precisely, in Gifu: repetition of space pattern units, uncoupling of form and function, and a new meaning of flexibility. -`Game Boards’ consists on setting up a base geometry -each project his, generally reticular- and give form to each project system (structure, closings, partitions and furniture) by choosing elements -intersections, lines, modules- it offers. Each project system is formed, in principle, with no subordinated relation with any of the others; when subordination is unavoidable, the game rules determine that the load bearing structural system may not be the one to materialize the base geometric order, which means that it does not exert the dominant role. Therefore, ‘Game Boards' transgresses the Modern logic, because the structure neither reflects nor reveals the base order, and because the systems do not respect any of the hierarchic and chained subordination relations that the ‘free plan’ called for. ‘Game Boards' leads to quite different solutions and formal projects: the Oogaki and Park Coffee projects show incipient Game Boards; The Almere Kunstlinie and the Zollverein School present consolidations of this strategy; and the Toledo’s Glass Pavilion results from subverting the strategy. In addition, the Toledo project takes the repetition concept beyond that of using a constructive element and a space pattern element (in this case with a bubble form) to end up affecting the personal experience of the spectator, who, wherever he is, feels to always be in the same place. This thesis denominates that repetitive space as ‘Mantra space '. -‘Elements from a Catalogue’ is shown with the Kanazawa Museum. Its logic starts from the definition of a series of elements, very few, and it is based on the huge number of possible combinations among them. The ‘Elements from a Catalogue’ approach was announced in the Gifu project when characterizing its space pattern elements. -Aprioristic Form' is illustrated by the Flower House. The decision on the type of form -in this case the form of an amoeba- would be the beginning of the projectual process, but it does not mean it is arbitrary form: the amoeba form implies repeating a space pattern (pseudopodia) and an apotheosis of the repetition concept: embracing the space experience, it gives rise to a repetitive or mantra space. ‘Mantra Space’ is one of leitmotivs used as an argument in the last formal strategy Thesis decodes: the Rolex Center. With respect to the ‘Projectual strategies of the load bearing structure’, the thesis finds and traces a trajectory of five projectual strategies: ‘preeminence, concealment, dissolution, disappearance and desvirtuación’. --Preeminence is present in Sejima’s first works in which she resorts to structures which have a dominant preeminent role in the project in so far as they impersonate the greater scale and/or materialize the base geometric order. In later works that preeminence will be inverted, the projects aiming towards its opposite: lighter, slighter, smaller structures. -Concealment reduces the dominant role of the structure. At the outset concealment is literal, almost hiding the structural elements, as in Gifu; soon it will become more sophisticated, such as the concealment by camouflage or the paradoxical concealment by multiplication in the Koga Park Café. -Dissolution diminishes the dominant condition of the structure: instead of its’ being configured as unitary or homogenous system is fragmented in several subsystems. -Disappearance talks about structures that fade away as self referred and independent systems; projects in which the load bearing function is carried out by other systems such as the set of partitions. Disappearance reaches its zenith at the Flower House, whose perimeter functions structurally being, in addition, transparent, immaterial: its structure has become invisible, has disappeared. -Desvirtuación talks about structures that do appear like independent self-systems, but which that do not longer have a preeminent paper, inasmuch as they do not materialize the base order. This strategy correlates with the ‘Game Boards’ formal strategy. The thesis conclusions are show by the organization of the thesis itself: its identification of the different strategies. Even so, as epilogues, the thesis exposes six ‘Conclusions’. The first two emphasize the leading thread of the work done, rooted in the generic quality of the Sejima-SANAA projectual strategies. The following four expound to what extent their projects show features, or formal and/or structural signifiers, which also are or can be read as characteristic signals of the contemporary architectonic panorama, and raise the key question: aiming farther, may some of them be taken as original contributions? -As original contributions the conclusions highlight: the identification between the generic ideal and the concrete project; and the proposal of a new, hybrid space, kind of an intermediate stage between the traditional subdivided compartmented space and the continuous modern. -As symptoms of contemporaneousness: in relation to the form it highlights the transferring of the formal specificity from the part to the whole; and in relation to the structure, it underscore the contemporary tendency towards lighter and growingly slimmer structures, tending to the evanescent. This last one, the tendency towards structural evanescence, could have condition of being an original contribution, not in vain it carries the structural disappearance towards its last consequences; and in the case of structures with physical presence, it makes them to cease being the ordering system orchestrating the projectual process.

ABSTRACT This research arises from the professional experience of the author, specialized teacher of physical education in the CEIP "Alhambra" in Madrid, where progressively, appreciates that table tennis can be a very interesting sport to develop in physical education sessions and promote within the playtimes. The author believes that this sport develops a range of motor, affective, cognitive and social objectives that can contribute to the acquisition of basic skills and the integral development of students. It is then when receives training on the sport of table tennis and seeks ways of funding in order to outfit the center with necessary equipment. The Municipal District of Fuencarral-El Pardo installed three outdoor tables in the schoolyard and with the resources of the school and the support of the Association of Parents (AMPA), five indoor folding tables are achieved as well as all the necessary material (nets, rackets, balls, etc.). After introduce the sport from 3rd to 6th grade of primary education, promotes a championship in the school where the participation rate is around 90% of students, these results create the uncertainties to the author that are the motivation and starting point for this research to analyze whether the practice of table tennis can be ideal at the stage of primary education. Introduction The current legislation on education, Organic Law 2/2006 of 3 May, on Education (LOE) as amended by Organic Law 8/2013, of December 9, to improve educational quality (LOMCE), attaches great importance to the sport in general, "Sport is a healthy, funny and educational activity that can have great benefits not only for their health and well-being but also for the physical, psychological and psychosocial comprehensive personal child development besides on their sports development "(Pradas, 2009, p. 151), is therefore an ideal moment to analyze which sports are practiced in schools or why are practiced some more than others. "The table tennis as well as being a sport for everyone, is presented as an attractive game, where its practice is funny at any age, both children and adults, mainly because it has simple game rules, not enclosing danger for the physical integrity of its practitioners during their game" (Pradas, 2009, p. 83). It is a sport that is "open to all, regardless of age or sex, as high-level sport, as family or social practice" (Gatien, 1993, p. 16). However, "there are few books on table tennis. Few books, both reflexion or popularization about table tennis, adorn the shelves of bookstores and libraries." (Erb, 1999, p.14) and add "So, the school environment suffers from lack of explanatory and educational work related to this issue." (Erb, 1999, p.14) In particular, it is intended to achieve the following objectives within the Community of Madrid: • To determine the percentage of schools that have spaces and materials suitable for practicing table tennis and identify, from the different Directorates of Land Area (DAT), which has the best equipped schools in both facilities and materials to develop programs to promote table tennis. • Find out the possible causes that explained why table tennis is not practiced as much as other sports, analyzing impediments that limit the implementation of table tennis as a regular sport in primary schools. Analyze the opinion of teachers in terms of materials and facilities needed for table tennis. • Analyze the level of knowledge about table tennis among professionals who teach the subject of Physical Education and their needs to include teaching units about table tennis in their teaching programs. • Knowing the profile of the ideal teacher who recommends the use of table tennis and figure out the interest of teachers to receive specific training of table tennis. • Analyze the professional opinion on the suitability of table tennis in Primary Education taking into account the objectives pursued, to develop the skills, content, evaluation criteria and learning standards that can work and injuries involved. Methodology The investigation was characterized by using an inductive methodology, arising from the professional experience of the author, was also transverse to analyze reality in a particular time and quantitative type. The population under study were all the state schools in Madrid region, being the physical education teachers responsible for providing the requested data. These data were obtained using as data collection instrument a self-administered questionnaire with multiple choice questions, because it facilitates the analysis thereof. In terms of obtained data, on a population of 798 schools, a sample of 276 was achieved, this represented a response rate of 34.59%, assuming the worst case scenario (p = q) and a level 95% confidence for the total of the 276 completed questionnaires, the maximum error was ± 4.78%. Results In terms of the results, they were set according to three dimensions: center level, professorate level and Sport level and trying to find out whether the five objectives were achieved. After analyzing the results, it was found that schools possessed sufficient facilities for table tennis, however, lacked specific materials and training by teachers, as well as teaching resources and a program to promote table tennis. A clear interest was noticed by teachers in order to receive specific training in table tennis since most recommended the use of table tennis in the subject of physical education in primary education. Finally, the results proved the number of motor, affective, cognitive and social objectives developed by table tennis and its contribution to the acquisition of basic skills and the objective "k" of primary education, in addition to the low rate of injury it causes. Discussion and conclusions Table tennis is an ideal sport to be practiced and taught in the subject of Physical Education in Primary Education due to the large amount of content that are likely to be worked through this sport and due to the large number of individual and social values that can foster the practice of table tennis. The causes of that so far, table tennis is not a sport practiced regularly in schools despite working many specific contents of the subject of Physical Education may be due to factors outside the sport of table tennis and subject to solved with adequate investment in specific materials, teacher training and educational resources. By endowing the centers with the necessary teaching materials and resources and providing training to teachers, they would introduce teaching units of table tennis within their annual programs. Madrid and the Spanish Federation of table tennis should develop a promotional program by endowing materials and resources to the centers, as did other federations such as badminton and basketball, among others.

After a literature review, we found that in a free-market economic context and international education, the accreditation of master's programs follows an international accreditation model, and doesńt take in account in most cases criteria and indicators for local relevancy. It concludes that it is necessary both, international accreditation to ensure the effectiveness of the program (achievement of learning outcomes) and the national accreditation through which it could ensure local relevancy of programs, for which we are giving some indicators.

Another dilemma also had to be dealt with; Lloyd Gaines was determined to attend law school, not just anywhere but at the University of Missouri. Shortly after the Supreme Court decision, Lloyd Gaines left his civil service job in Michigan and returned home to St. Louis, arriving on New Year’s Eve, 1938. In the meantime, to pay his bills, he took a job as a filling station attendant. On January 9, 1939, Gaines spoke to the St. Louis chapter of the NAACP. He told them he stood “ready, willing, and able to enroll at MU.” Gaines later quit his gas station job. He explained to his family that the station owner substituted inferior gas and that he could not, in good conscience, continue to work there. In the meantime, the state Supreme Court sent the Gaines case back to Boone County to determine whether the new law school at Lincoln would comply with the US Supreme Court’s requirement of “substantial equality.”
