Across 3 experiments, the effect of different styles of note taking, summary and access to notes was examined for memory for the details contained in a witness interview. In Experiment 1, participants (N = 40) were asked to either take notes or listen as they watched a witness interview. In Experiment 2, participants (N = 84) were asked to either take notes in one of three ways (i.e., conventional, linear, spidergraph) or listen as they watched a witness interview. In Experiment 3, participants (N = 112) were asked to take notes using the conventional or spidergraph method of note taking while they watched a witness interview and were subsequently given an opportunity to review their notes or sit quietly. Participants were then either granted access to their notes during testing or were not provided with their notes. Results of the first two experiments revealed that note takers outperformed listeners. Experiment 2 showed that conventional note takers outperformed those who used organizational styles of note taking, and post-hoc analyses revealed that recall performance was associated with note quality. Experiment 3 showed that participants who had access to their notes performed the best. The implications of these findings for police training programs in investigative interviewing are discussed.

The aim of this paper is to present the findings of a quantitative content analysis of the Polish print media. Sharing the codebook and procedures with an international team, we were able to gain a broad perspective on the media coverage of the first Polish EU presidency. In particular, we focused on: (1) the number of items covering events related to the presidency, (2) the prominence of the topic, (3) genres, (4) main topics, (5) authors of news, (6) authors of opinions, and (7) the way Polish journalists evaluated Polands performance during the EU presidency. The findings showed that although Polish print press reported the first Polish EU presidency, the topics prominence was not very high. Media organizations rather rarely presented the topic on the front page and they did not change their regular editorial policy. Most of the news items, as well as opinions and comments, were written by staff members. Furthermore, journalists seemed to be more interested in the opinions of national politicians, rather than experts. As a result, the framework of the coverage was predominantly domestic. Journalists working for daily newspapers focused mostly on providing news and their own interpretations of the reported events. On the contrary weekly magazines provided comments and interviews, but again, most of the opinions were expressed by their own journalists and editors.

This study has four major purposes. First, it compares school guidance of homeroom teachers in Korea and Finland, in order to understand the reality of education, based on the teachers perceptions. Secondly, it also considers the topic within its historical, social, and cultural backgrounds, from a critical standpoint. Thirdly, it investigates the direction of the improvement of school guidance, based on the analysis of similarities and differences between Korea and Finland, with regards to the meaning, practice, and environmental factors of the school guidance. Lastly, the influential factors surrounding the school guidance are noted by analysing empirical data from a microscopic approach, and extending the understanding of it into a social context. As for the methods, it employs thematic analysis approach through 10 homeroom teacher interviews in the lower secondary schools. As a result, firstly, the teachers in both countries assumed similarly, that the role of the teacher was not only to teach the subject, but also to care about every aspects of the students development in their school life. In addition, they accepted the fact that school guidance became more significant. However, the school guidance became the top priority for the Korean teachers, while teaching subject is the main task for the Finnish teachers. Secondly, the homeroom teachers in both countries hoped to have a better working environment, to perform school guidance concerning education budget for the resources of school guidance, tight curriculum, and increasing the teachers tasks. Thirdly, the school guidance in Korea seemed to be influenced by social expectation and government demand, whereas, the Finnish teachers considered school guidance in more aspects of adjustment and academic motivation, rather than resolving the social problems. Fourthly, the Korean teachers perceived that the trust and respect from the society and home became weakened, also expressing doubts about the educational policies and the attitude of the government with regards to school guidance. On the other hand, the Finnish teachers believed that they were trusted and respected by the society. However, blurred lines in the roles and accountability between the homeroom teachers, home, and the society were also controversial among the teachers in both countries. To sum up, Finland needs to ameliorate the system and conditions for school guidance of the homeroom teachers. The consensus on the role and tasks of Finnish homeroom teachers for school guidance seem to be also necessary. Meanwhile, Korea should improve the social system and social consciousness of the teacher, school guidance, and schooling, preceding the reform of the education system or conditions.

This study discusses the importance of creating Open Innovation (OI) teams for optimizing costs of Research and Development (R&D), dividing risks and maximizing profits. The purpose of this study is to determine team characteristics beneficial for successful OI project, with the emphasis on the fact that such teams are formed of professionals belonging to different organizations, both private and state-owned, with different educational and professional backgrounds and personal qualities. This purpose is supported by three sub-objectives: to observe the phenomenon of OI and its implementation in emerging economies, particularly in Russia; to specify professional and personal competencies of OI team members essential for the successful collaboration; and to identify the role of the leader in OI teams. The theoretical part of this study consists of knowledge from academic literature related to OI, cross-functional and innovation teams and leadership in innovation. The practical part of the study is presented in the form of multiple case study, and the empirical research is based on six semistructured interviews collected in October 2014 from the CEOs, Innovation Managers and Technical Directors of innovation companies participating actively in OI projects. The findings of the study demonstrate that many of the necessary competencies are equal for innovation or cross-functional teams and OI teams, such as professionalism and communication skills. However, due to the specific nature of OI, additional personal characteristics were recognized as beneficial for OI teams, such as flexibility, empathy and success-orientation. The role of the leader is also considered as a critical success factor for OI teams, with the emphasis on flexibility and autonomy. The findings of the study contribute to understanding the connection between notions of team member, team climate and team leader, and its influence on OI project success. Thus, the main purpose of the study is providing support for existing knowledge on OI teams and developing new insights into this newly emerged topic.

SCAPs Information Systems Department is composed of about twenty teachers who have, for several years, been using an e-learning environment (Moodle) combined with traditional assessment. A new e-assessment strategy was implemented recently in order to evaluate a practical topic, the use of spreadsheets to solve management problems. This topic is common to several courses of different undergraduate degree programs. Being e-assessment an outstanding task regarding theoretical topics, it becomes even more challenging when the topics under evaluation are practical. In order to understand the implications of this new type of assessment from the viewpoint of the students, questionnaires and interviews were undertaken. In this paper the analysis of the questionnaires are presented and discussed.

Ethics on scientific research is approached and often discussed in several areas of knowledge connected to health. In the Administration area there are very few studies which approach the topic of ethics on research. The present paper tried to fill in this gap in the production of knowledge about the topic, investigating how the ethical principles found in the literature and in the codes of conduct are noticed and taken into account in Administration research activities developed by acting researchers in Administration Post Graduation Programs. Theoretically speaking, the study was based mainly on the approaches by Creswell (2007) and Bell and Bryman (2007), which discuss the research ethical principles. Methodologically speaking it was all about an exploratory kind of study, with qualitative research approach. Upon data collection, personal interviews were made aiming at its depth and focus groups were formed. The first stage had interviews with four experienced researchers who took part on a teaching and researching event and on the second stage we used the focus group technique. The focus groups were done in four college institutions along with the post graduation programs in Administration in the states of Rio Grande do Norte, Paraba and Pernambuco, in Brazil. The results suggest the existence of general principles and parameters for the scientific research recommended in the literature and on official resolution. However, in the Administration area, there are only a few recommendations of good practices when it comes to submitting articles for scientific publications but we found no guidance with ethical principles and parameters which cover all the activities in the scientific research and which specifically meet the research particularities in Administration. The main ethical dilemma pointed by the researchers refers to ethical questions which arise at the time of data collection and on disclosing the results. Most researchers do not know the guidelines and the ethical norms on ethics about research that we have in our country neither do they send in their projects to the research ethics committee. When dilemma arises, they decide the ethical question based on their values and common sense. These elements confirm the thesis that the researcher s procedure in the research activities in Administration is predominantly signed by personal values or by common sense and less by ethical principles, whether by not knowing the normative instruments related to ethics or by disagreeing with any disciplining rules on ethical behavior in the research

A presente pesquisa foi iniciada pela compreenso que, mesmo com os significativos avanos ocorridos nos ltimos anos, relacionados aos debates de gnero, mulheres, feminismo, faz-se necessrio, ainda, que educadoras/es consigam estabelecer dilogos nas salas de aula sobre o tema, eis que, ou est ausente ou muito pouco debatido no mbito das escolas. Pretende-se estabelecer uma relao entre o Ensino de Histria e o gnero/mulher no contexto da Histria. Para tanto, foi utilizado o conceito de literacia histrica, o qual aborda a Histria em mltiplas possibilidades e definies sobre como ela (Histria) pode ser lida, uma alfabetizao histrica. Neste sentido espera-se que a abordagem de uma Histria local seja percebida como inter-relacionada com a Histria global. Para que tal propsito seja alcanado, sero utilizados os paradigmas da Educao Histrica e o conceito de Teoria Social. A partir da investigao das memrias de professoras e professores de Histria sobre a sua formao, busca-se identificar as influncias que sofreram no meio escolar, e o quanto significou, para elas e para eles, estas nas suas vidas, os aprendizados e as dificuldades encontradas. Levando-se em conta que muitos trabalhos fundamentados em estudos sobre mulheres tm sido realizados por alunas/os da Universidade Federal do Rio Grande FURG para a obteno da titulao em vrios nveis de formao acadmica, na rea de Histria, realizou-se um levantamento inicial, a fim de encontrar mulheres que escreveram sobre mulheres no Centro de Documentao Histrica Prof. Hugo Alberto Pereira Neves (CDH-FURG). Buscou-se tambm uma dissertao, resultante de curso realizado na Universidade Federal de Pelotas UFPel. A partir da identificao de algumas mulheres que escreveram sobre mulheres e que se encontram atuando como docentes em sala de aula, ou em outros espaos onde desenvolvem atividades correlatas, idealizou-se conhecer como esto sendo abordadas, se o so, as questes relacionadas s mulheres no contexto em que se encontram essas profissionais. Por fim, foram realizadas entrevistas e buscou-se observar as coincidncias e/ou divergncias entre elas no tocante ao tema gnero/mulheres, no espao escolar ou onde atuam.

Lagression sexuelle (AS) envers les enfants est une problmatique majeure affectant les communauts autochtones. Considrant les consquences long terme associes lAS, il est primordial que les intervenants soient forms adquatement pour intervenir en cas dAS puisque que cette problmatique compromet le bien-tre des enfants, de leur famille et de leur communaut. Le Centre dexpertise Marie-Vincent, en partenariat avec les communauts autochtones, a mis sur pied une formation en matire dAS spcifiquement adapte aux besoins des intervenants. De 2013 2015, 161 professionnels uvrant dans les communauts autochtones ont particip cette formation. Deux phases de collecte de donnes distinctes ont t menes pour vrifier latteinte des objectifs du programme, soit lamlioration des connaissances et des interventions en matire dAS des participants. Lors de la premire phase, les participants ont rpondu un questionnaire de ractions et un test de connaissances. Une tude de cas multiples qualitative comportant quatre communauts a t ralise lors de la deuxime phase. En plus dun taux dapprciation lev, les rsultats rvlent une augmentation significative des connaissances, passant de 54 % 87 % (t(125) = 16,4, p < 0,001, p2 = 0,68). Lanalyse des entrevues fait tat dune appropriation des contenus de formation dans la pratique professionnelle des participants. Ces derniers affirment avoir modifi la faon dont ils questionnent les enfants et tre plus attentifs aux signes et symptmes dune AS. Des changements sur le plan des attitudes, notamment sur limportance du signalement, sont galement rapports. Finalement, la formation est considre comme lun des lments dclencheurs dune meilleure collaboration intersectorielle dans au moins une communaut.

O estudo aqui apresentado no detm carter exaustivo pelo fato de que novos dados podero surgir daqui para frente, principalmente por se tratar de uma espcie de feeling relacionado execuo das semicolcheias do samba, que pode ser interpretado de maneiras diferentes. Trata-se de uma pesquisa emprica que se fundamentou em entrevistas juntamente do profissional responsvel pela criao de Ao e Reao: o msico Brasileiro Kiko Freitas, nas suas experincias e conhecimento pessoal. Em decorrncia das falas buscou-se apoio em Bardin e sua Anlise de Contedo, base cientfica para a falta de bibliografia sobre o assunto especfico, tambm manuais e mtodos sobre tcnicas de baquetas existentes, alm da consulta em vdeo-aulas e sites online. A trajetria perseguida buscou encontrar a interface entre as respostas do entrevistado e os pressupostos tericos de Bardin, naquilo que tem relao ao assunto-foco do estudo: Uma nova tcnica de mos com estilo, economia de movimentos e que seja uma alternativa para a execuo do samba na bateria.

Critical thinking in learners is a goal of educators and professional organizations in nursing as well as other professions. However, few studies in nursing have examined the role of the important individual difference factors topic knowledge, individual interest, and general relational reasoning strategies in predicting critical thinking. In addition, most previous studies have used domain-general, standardized measures, with inconsistent results. Moreover, few studies have investigated critical thinking across multiple levels of experience. The major purpose of this study was to examine the degree to which topic knowledge, individual interest, and relational reasoning predict critical thinking in maternity nurses. For this study, 182 maternity nurses were recruited from national nursing listservs explicitly chosen to capture multiple levels of experience from prelicensure to very experienced nurses. The three independent measures included a domain-specific Topic Knowledge Assessment (TKA), consisting of 24 short-answer questions, a Professed and Engaged Interest Measure (PEIM), with 20 questions indicating level of interest and engagement in maternity nursing topics and activities, and the Test of Relational Reasoning (TORR), a graphical selected response measure with 32 items organized in scales corresponding to four forms of relational reasoning: analogy, anomaly, antithesis, and antinomy. The dependent measure was the Critical Thinking Task in Maternity Nursing (CT2MN), composed of a clinical case study providing cues with follow-up questions relating to nursing care. These questions align with the cognitive processes identified in a commonly-used definition of critical thinking in nursing. Reliable coding schemes for the measures were developed for this study. Key findings included a significant correlation between topic knowledge and individual interest. Further, the three individual difference factors explained a significant proportion of the variance in critical thinking with a large effect size. While topic knowledge was the strongest predictor of critical thinking performance, individual interest had a moderate significant effect, and relational reasoning had a small but significant effect. The findings suggest that these individual difference factors should be included in future studies of critical thinking in nursing. Implications for nursing education, research, and practice are discussed.

The goal of this thesis is to gain more in-depth understanding of employer branding and offer suggestions on how this knowledge could be utilized in the case company. More in detail, the purpose of this research is to provide tools for improving Lindstrms organizational attractiveness and boosting the recruitment and retention of the segment of high-performing sales professionals. A strategy for reaching this particular segment has not been previously drawn and HR-managers believe strongly that it would be very beneficial for the companys development and growth. The topic of this research is very current for Lindstrm, but also contributes on general level as companies are competing against each other in attracting, recruiting and retention of skilled workforce in the times of labor shortage. The research is conducted with qualitative methods and the data collection includes primary data through interviews as well as secondary data in the form of analysis on previous research, websites, recruitment material and discussions with Lindstrms HR department. This research provides a good basis for broader examination on the topic and presents development suggestions for the identified challenges. Based on the key findings Lindstrms HR department was advised to increase firms visibility, broaden recruitment channels, provide more hands-on knowledge about the sales positions and investigate their possibilities of developing sales reward systems.
