ABSTRACT. This Thesis is a study of the access network to be used with services assigned to patients that are users of telecare services. In the last chapter we will describe a fall forecasting model that allows the access network to not be an issue for the service. For achieving the objectives described above, this paper will begin with the presentation of what is now understood as telemedicine and telecare services. We pay attention to the actors involved, uses and benefits that they have both for patients and for public administrations. Once we know what telecare means and what requisites they have, we will focus on access networks which are used to provide telemedicine services, with their advantages and disadvantages. Since not all services have the same general requirements of reliability and transmission speed, we will try to see how you can ensure the needs of each type of service from the network provider's point of view. The next step is to establish that the forecasting model of falls will meet the technical needs and actors to provide telecare service in the home of a patient. This will include a study of what equipment is needed, how to manage and how to mark traffic for the network operator knowing how to treat it according to the telecare service being used, and this will lead us to the creation of a model of telecare link monitoring. At this point we are already prepared to establish a forecasting model of connection drops, describing the logic that is needed for this, and putting it into practice with two concrete examples: telemonitoring service and an ambulatory telemonitoring service. Finally, we will have a recap on what has been studied in this paper and will make a series of recommendations.

------------------------------------------------------------ The goal of the current project is the development of a distributed pub/sub system to include it on WireCloud which is a platform to build compositional applications. Several implementations of pub/sub systems [3-6] have been developed until now and this project explains some of them, their characteristic, advantages and disadvantages. Thus, the implementations which better adapt to the project needs have been selected. Some of these implementations have been simulated to get a better knowledge of their behavior. The aim of these simulations was to select the best strategies to route messages and the optimal structures to reduce the computation time of a received message. After defining the better strategies and structures, the real pub/sub system have been finally developed in Java. For each developed module, a set of tests have been built to check its correct behavior in case of changes or extensions. Besides, the project also includes the analysis and the implementation of a new communication protocol among the different components because the existing one was slow and consumed a lot of computer resources. The new communication protocol is based in RMI (Remote Method Invocation) and has improved the consumption of resources. However, the efficiency of this new protocol was worse than the one of the existing protocol.

ABSTRACT. This project describes the audio installation of a digital music recording studio. The purpose of this project is purely educational, strengthening concepts that have been laid during college. The installation is fictitious and has not been implemented in a real situation. Nevertheless, it has been developed with a professional character. This project has been divided in various phases. Firstly, I proceeded to search information related to recording studios, focusing specially on their configurations. Simultaneously, I looked for information about the main digital equipment of a recording studio and performed a brief market research. Secondly, I selected the studio equipment configuration, taking care of the advantages and disadvantages of each type of configuration. The third phase corresponds to the choice of the equipment. Following the audio chain, I analyzed the need for each of them. Then, I compared the different equipment that compose each of the choice blocks and finally opt for the most appropriate with its justification. In the last phase, I interconnected all the equipment according to the chosen configuration of the second phase. For this, I implemented a series of written tables, where I specified each connection type. The Project ends with a presentation of the budget, divided into several sections, followed by the conclusion in which I analyze both the objectives of the project and my personal valuation.

In recent years, remote sensing imaging systems for the measurement of oceanic sea states have attracted renovated attention. Imaging technology is economical, non-invasive and enables a better understanding of the space-time dynamics of ocean waves over an area rather than at selected point locations of previous monitoring methods (buoys, wave gauges, etc.). We present recent progress in space-time measurement of ocean waves using stereo vision systems on offshore platforms, which focus on sea states with wavelengths in the range of 0.01 m to 1 m. Both traditional disparity-based systems and modern elevation-based ones are presented in a variational optimization framework: the main idea is to pose the stereoscopic reconstruction problem of the surface of the ocean in a variational setting and design an energy functional whose minimizer is the desired temporal sequence of wave heights. The functional combines photometric observations as well as spatial and temporal smoothness priors. Disparity methods estimate the disparity between images as an intermediate step toward retrieving the depth of the waves with respect to the cameras, whereas elevation methods estimate the ocean surface displacements directly in 3-D space. Both techniques are used to measure ocean waves from real data collected at offshore platforms in the Black Sea (Crimean Peninsula, Ukraine) and the Northern Adriatic Sea (Venice coast, Italy). Then, the statistical and spectral properties of the resulting observed waves are analyzed. We show the advantages and disadvantages of the presented stereo vision systems and discuss future lines of research to improve their performance in critical issues such as the robustness of the camera calibration in spite of undesired variations of the camera parameters or the processing time that it takes to retrieve ocean wave measurements from the stereo videos, which are very large datasets that need to be processed efficiently to be of practical usage. Multiresolution and short-time approaches would improve efficiency and scalability of the techniques so that wave displacements are obtained in feasible times.

Passengers’ comfort in terms of acoustic noise levels is a key design driver for train design. The problem is especially relevant for high speed trains, where the aerodynamic induced noise is dominant, but it is also important for medium speed trains where the mechanical sources of noise may have more influence. The numerical interior noise prediction inside the train is a very comp lex problem, involving many different parameters: complex geometries and materials, different noise sources, com- plex interactions among those sources, broad range of frequencies where the phenomenon is important, etc. In this paper, the main findings of this work developed at IDR/UPM (Instituto de Microgravedad “Ignacio Da Riva”, Universidad Politécnica de Madrid) are presented, concentrat ing on the different modelling methodologies used for the different frequency ranges of interest, from FEM-BEM models, hybrid FEM-SEA to pure SEA models. The advantages and disadvantages of the different approaches are summarized. Different modelling techniques have also been evaluated and compared, taking into account the various and specific geometrical configurations typical in this type of structures, and the material properties used in the models. The critical configuration of the train inside a tunnel is studied in order to evaluate the external loads due to noise sources of the train. In this work, a SEA-model composed by periodic characteristic sections of a high spee d train is analysed inside a tunnel.

This paper presents a time-domain stochastic system identification method based on Maximum Likelihood Estimation and the Expectation Maximization algorithm. The effectiveness of this structural identification method is evaluated through numerical simulation in the context of the ASCE benchmark problem on structural health monitoring. Modal parameters (eigenfrequencies, damping ratios and mode shapes) of the benchmark structure have been estimated applying the proposed identification method to a set of 100 simulated cases. The numerical results show that the proposed method estimates all the modal parameters reasonably well in the presence of 30% measurement noise even. Finally, advantages and disadvantages of the method have been discussed.

ABSTRACT In the last two years, online training has boomed thanks to significant training paradigm called MOOC (Massive Open Online Course). A MOOC simplifies remote training thanks to its open, collaborativend free mass features. Unfortunately, the use of this kind of learning resource in Spanish teaching is still a minority. This research includes an educational experience which emphasizes the design, implementation and dissemination of the first Spanish-language MOOC devoted to information security by the Technical University of Madrid. This experiment addresses the advantages and disadvantages of this kind of learning resource discussing critical issues for developing type MOOC prolonged courses, such as interactivity and feedback from users of the course or the most appropriate way of representing the educational content. All these questions are answered in the MOOC Crypt4you which, over its 10 months of life, can glimpse a great success of this type of training course, at least in Spanish, Spanish-speakers.

The current deficit situation of the Spanish airport system suggests the need to manage this in a more efficient and profitable way. One of the possible options is through private management and being able to do this through Public Private Partnerships (PPP). This study analyzes the situation of the sector and its economic importance and the different possibilities for introducing private management in a public company, specifying the situation in the case of airports, presenting the advantages and disadvantages of these possibilities, and aiming at results obtained in other places where it has been applied. It is proposed that the ideal model for the introduction of private management would be through PPP models tailored to each airport, but having common characteristics according to the group they belong to. Finally, we observe that not all airports are commercially attractive, so that the PPP concept does not apply to all of them. In some cases even the operability itself is not viable at all, and that should be considered separately in order to avoid creating a private monopoly while trying to enhance competition among them.

ABSTRACT. In a world where more and more people are using the Internet to perform their communications and relationships, both personally and professionally, Social Networks have become a social interaction tool, indispensable for many people. Throughout this project we will perform a thorough analysis of the characteristics of the Social Media Phenomenon, focusing on the advantages and disadvantages of such activity in a business scope. Given that we have not found no study on the Social Media Phenomenon in Small Business of the Spanish ICT sector, the main objective of this project is to establish the influence that Social Networks are generating in the business strategy of this business sector, the characteristics and peculiarities that make them a unique and different business model and whose number has increased in recent years, perhaps due to the crisis the country is facing. To do this, we will discuss the advantages and disadvantages derived from its use, how it affects value creation, and finally, what is the level of involvement and / or investment that the Small Business has taken in this regard. In this context, we intend to make a special emphasis on the concept of value co-creation and its variants (Crowdsourcing, Open Innovation and People Oriented Innovation), to determine the degree of importance of the user to value generator. Subsequently, on the practical section, out a comprehensive market study will be carried, based on an online test to a group of enterprises, carefully selected from more than 100,000 companies, according to their sector of activity, number of employees and annual turnover, and the results will be analyzed with the intention to get a clear view of the selected company's overall performance. Finally, we will take as reference the last two annual publications of the "Observatory on the use of Social Networks in Spanish SMEs" (2011 and 2013), entirely dedicated to Social Media and SMEs studies, and whose information, together with the results obtained in our study will allow us to determine the current and future trends, and consequently, obtain the appropriate conclusions to respond to the raised questions throughout the project, and determine whether or not they are a real source of business success.
