O presente relatório é fruto da Prática de Ensino Supervisionada, realizada no ano letivo 2014/2015 na Escola Básica 2, 3 com Ensino Secundário Cunha Rivara, no âmbito do Mestrado em Ensino do Português no 3.º Ciclo do Ensino Básico e Ensino Secundário e de Espanhol nos Ensinos Básico e Secundário, sob a orientação do Professor Doutor António Ricardo Mira. Esta fase prática do mestrado assume-se como momento charneira na formação de futuros professores, porquanto representa o espaço ideal para aferir e testar métodos e técnicas aplicáveis aos processos de ensino/aprendizagem. Nesse sentido, e partindo do pressuposto de que o aluno deve ser o ator principal ao longo deste processo, este relatório assume uma função descritiva, mas, em simultâneo, outra dimensão, tão ou mais importante, no domínio da reflexão e da interiorização de práticas pedagógico-didáticas e de comportamentos relacionais, assumidos durante este processo. Assim, desenvolve-se em cinco componentes, que se complementam: preparação científica, pedagógica e didática; planificação e condução de aulas e avaliação de aprendizagens; análise da prática de ensino; participação na escola e desenvolvimento profissional; ABSTRACT: This report is the result of Supervised Teaching Practice, held in the school year 2014/2015 at the Basic and Secondary School 2, 3 “Cunha Rivara”, within the Master degree: “Teaching Portuguese in the 3rd cycle of Basic Education and Secondary Education and Spanish in basic and secondary education”, under the guidance of Professor Ricardo Antonio Mira. This practice of master stage is assumed as a key moment in the training of future teachers, because it is the ideal place and moment to measure and test methods and techniques applicable to teaching / learning processes. Accordingly, and assuming that the student must be the main actor throughout this process, this report takes a descriptive function, but at the same time, another dimension, equally important in the field of reflection and practices internalization, pedagogical-didactic and relational behaviors made during this process. Thus it develops into five components, which complement each other: scientific, pedagogical and didactic preparation; planning and conducting classes and learning evaluation; analysis of the teaching practice; participation in school and professional development.

O presente projeto de investigação tem como objetivo analisar as alterações na Educação Especial ao longo dos tempos e as implicações destas alterações no que diz respeito aos alunos com Perturbação de Hiperatividade e Défice de Atenção, Assim são apresentadas e desenvolvidas teoricamente noções básicas sobre a evolução da Educação Especial até à atualidade, descrita sucintamente o que é a Perturbação de Hiperatividade e Défice de Atenção, quais as suas causas e consequências, tal como os modos de diagnóstico e de tratamento atualmente disponíveis. Para além disso, e já numa vertente mais prática, esta investigação tem também como objetivo comparar dois estudos relativos ao apoio escolar de alunos com Perturbação de Hiperatividade e Défice de Atenção, as consequências das suas dificuldades e quais as estratégias postas em prática em sala de aula pelos professores, estudos esses realizados com alunos sinalizados ao abrigo de dois Decretos-Lei distintos. Em suma, após revisão da literatura apropriada, primeiramente pretende-se analisar as estratégias utilizadas em sala de aula, a posição dos professores de alunos com PHDA e também concluir quais as alterações provocadas nas escolas pelo Decreto-Lei 3/2008. Neste sentido são ainda analisadas as possíveis implicações na elegibilidade de alunos com PHDA para apoio de Educação Especial e as consequências no processo de ensino de alunos com PHDA, no que diz respeito às estratégias a usar em sala de aula e aos objetivos de ensino.

Este estudo tem como objetivo principal conhecer os hábitos, conceções e práticas de leitura dos alunos dos 2º e 3º ciclos do ensino básico, assim como dos seus professores, encarregados de educação e assistentes operacionais, da EB1,2,3/JI/S Padre Maurício de Freitas, ilha das Flores, arquipélago dos Açores. O enquadramento teórico deste estudo está organizado em três partes: a primeira aborda a leitura como uma competência basilar para aceder ao conhecimento; a segunda incide sobre a formação dos leitores e mediadores nessa construção; a terceira apresenta conceções de alunos, professores, pais e assistentes operacionais sobre a leitura. Tendo em conta a natureza do estudo, enveredámos por um paradigma de investigação interpretativo, numa abordagem mista, recorrendo a dados qualitativos e quantitativos. Realizámos, testámos, reformulámos e aplicámos quatro questionários, destinados a cada grupo participante neste estudo. Os resultados do estudo mostram que o gosto pela leitura é transversal a todos os participantes no estudo, embora a prática da leitura seja pouco sistemática. Durante a infância, a maioria dos alunos teve contacto com atividades de promoção de leitura, desenvolvidas pelos pais, embora de forma pouco constante. As conceções que apresentam nem sempre são coincidentes com as práticas, sugerindo mais um desejo do que uma prática efetiva. A maior parte dos participantes vê a leitura como um ato de prazer e associa-a à aprendizagem e ao conhecimento. O estudo revela também que a generalidade dos inquiridos está convicto de que os hábitos de leitura afetam o desempenho/sucesso escolar. Os professores promovem, sobretudo, a leitura funcional e analítica, mais frequentemente na disciplina de Português. A biblioteca da escola é vista, pelos alunos, essencialmente, como um espaço para passar o tempo, o que é, de certa forma, corroborado pelos professores destacados na biblioteca. A generalidade dos participantes aponta várias atividades para dinamizar este espaço; contudo, são os Assistentes Operacionais que mostram maior disponibilidade para se envolver em atividades de promoção da leitura.

This thesis presents detailed observational studies of the extended distributions of gas, galaxies, and dark matter around hyperluminous quasars (HLQSOs) at high redshift. Taken together, these works aim to coherently describe the relationships between these massive, accreting black holes and their environments: the nature of the regions that give rise to such massive black holes, the effect of HLQSO radiation on their surrounding galaxies and gas, and the ability of both galaxies and black holes to shed new light on the formation and evolution of the other.

Chapter 2 focuses on the continuum-color-selected galaxies drawn from the Keck Baryonic Structure Survey (KBSS). The KBSS is a uniquely deep spectroscopic survey of star-forming galaxies in the same volumes of space as 15 HLQSOs at 2.5 < z < 2.9. The three-dimensional distribution of these galaxies among themselves and the nearby HLQSOs is used to infer the extent to which these black holes are associated with overdense peaks in the dark matter and galaxy distribution as quantified by clustering statistics. In conjunction with recent dark-matter simulations, these data provide the first estimates of the host dark-matter halo masses for HLQSOs, providing new insight into the formation and evolution of the most massive black holes at high redshift.

Chapter 3 describes the first results from a new survey (KBSS-Lyα) conducted for this thesis. The KBSS-Lyα survey uses narrowband imaging to identify Lyα-emitters (LAEs) in the ~Mpc regions around eight of the KBSS HLQSOs. Many of these LAEs show the effect of reprocessed HLQSO radiation in their emission through the process known as Lyα fluorescence. In this chapter, these fluorescent LAEs are used to generate a coarse map of the average HLQSO ionizing emission on Mpc scales, thereby setting the first direct constraints of the lifetime and angular distribution of activity for a population of these uniquely luminous black holes.

Chapter 4 contains a more detailed description of the KBSS-Lyα survey itself and the detailed properties of the star-forming and fluorescent objects selected therein. Using imaging and spectroscopic data covering rest-frame UV and optical wavelengths, including spectra from the new near-infrared spectrometer MOSFIRE, we characterize this population of nascent galaxies in terms of their kinematics, enrichment, gas properties, and luminosity distribution while comparing and contrasting them with previously-studied populations of continuum-selected galaxies and LAEs far from the effects of HLQSO emission.

At the conclusion of this thesis, I briefly present future directions for the continuation of this research. In Appendix A, I provide background information on the instrumentation used in this thesis, including my own contributions to MOSFIRE.

T follicular helper (Tfh) cells support differentiation of B cells to plasma cells and high affinity antibody production in germinal centers (GC) and Tfh differentiation requires the function of B cell lymphoma 6 (Bcl6). We have now discovered that early growth response gene (Egr) 2 and 3 directly regulate the expression of Bcl6 in Tfh cells which is required for their function in regulation of GC formation. In the absence of Egr2 and 3, the expression of Bcl6 in Tfh cells is defective leading to impaired differentiation of Tfh cells resulting in a failure to form GCs following virus infection and defects in production of anti-viral antibodies. Enforced expression of Bcl6 in Egr2/3 deficient CD4 T cells partially restored Tfh differentiation and GC formation in response to virus infection. Our findings demonstrate a novel function of Egr2/3 which is important for Tfh cell development and Tfh cell mediated B cell immune responses.

Objective: This in vitro study evaluated the influence of the surface pretreatment of a feldspathic ceramic on the shear bond strength of two different resin cements. Background Data: Although several conventional surface treatments have been used on feldspathic ceramic, few studies have investigated the effects of an alternative surface treatment, the association of aluminum oxide sandblasting with Nd:YAG and Er:YAG lasers. Methods: Sixty samples made of a feldspathic ceramic were divided into three groups (n = 20) and treated with (1) controlled-air abrasion with Al(2)O(3) + 10% hydrofluoric acid (HF), (2) Al(2)O(3) + Er:YAG laser, and (3) Al(2)O(3) + Nd:YAG laser. Afterward, silane (Dentsply) was applied on each treated surface. Each of the three main groups was divided into two subgroups (n = 10), where a different resin cement was employed for each subgroup. It was built a cylinder with resin cement (RelyX Arc) in subgroup (A) and with self-adhesive cement (RelyX U100) in subgroup (B). After 24 h at 37 degrees C, the prepared specimens were submitted to shear bond strength test and stereoscopic evaluation to determine the type of failure. Results: Bond strength mean values were not statistically significant for the surface treatment methods or resin cements. Conclusion: The null surface treatment proposed with aluminum oxide sandblasting associated with the Er:YAG or Nd:YAG laser and using cementation with self-adhesive cement can be an alternative bonding technique for feldspathic ceramic, since it was as effective as the conventional treatment with aluminum oxide sandblasting and hydrofluoric acid using the conventional resin cement.

The internal stresses and crystallographic texture in alpha-Al(2)O(3) scales grown on iron aluminides at 1100 degrees C were determined in situ using synchrotron X-ray diffraction. In the first hour of oxidation, alpha-Al(2)O(3) was formed by direct nucleation and by conversion from transition oxides (either theta-Al(2)O(3) or a mixed Fe-Al oxide). A sharp texture develops connected with the direct nucleation of alpha-Al(2)O(3), in contrast to the weaker texture observed in alpha-Al(2)O(3) originated by previous transformations, which also yielded tensile stresses in early oxidation stages. In order to reduce energy costs, high-temperature insulation porous refractory ceramics have been subjected to increasing demands. Among the techniques used to produce these materials (such as the addition of foaming agents and organic compounds), the pore generation via phase transformation presents key aspects, such as easy processing and the absence of toxic volatiles. In this study, this technique was applied to produce porous ceramics by decomposing an aluminum magnesium hydro-carbonate known as hydrotalcite (Mg(6)Al(2)(CO(3))(OH)(16)center dot 4H(2)O). It was found out that by using this complex compound, a large fraction of pores can be generated and kept at high temperatures (above 1300 degrees C) due to the in situ formation of spinel-like phases (MgAl(2)O(4)). The effects of different tempering temperatures (300-600 degrees C) on abrasive wear resistance of mottled cast iron were studied. Abrasive wear tests were carried out using the rubber-wheel test on quartz sand and the pin test on Al(2)O(3) abrasive cloths. The retained austenite content of the matrix was determined by X-ray diffraction. The wear surface of the specimens was examined by scanning electron microscopy for identifying the wear micromechanism. Bulk hardness and matrix hardness before and after the tests were measured. The results showed that in the two-body (pin-on-disc test) system, the main wear mechanism was microcutting and high matrix hardening was presented. The wear rates presented higher correlation with the retained austenite than with the bulk and matrix hardness. In the three-body system (sand-rubber wheel), the wear surfaces presented indentations due to abrasive rolling. The wear rates had better correlation with both the bulk and matrix hardness (before and after the wear test) than with the retained austenite content. There are two groups of results, high and low wear rates corresponding to each tribosystem, two-body abrasive wear and three-body abrasive wear, respectively. (C) 2009 Elsevier B.V. Green tapes of Li(2)O-ZrO(2)-SiO(2)-Al(2)O(3) (LZSA) parent glass were produced by aqueous tape casting as the starting material for the laminated object manufacturing (LOM) process. The rheological behavior of the powder suspensions in aqueous media, as well as the mechanical properties of the cast tapes, was evaluated. According to xi potential measurements, the LZSA glass powder particles showed acid surface characteristics and an IEP of around 4 when in aqueous media. The critical volume fraction of solids was about 72 wt% (27 vol%), which hindered the processability of more concentrated slurries. The glass particles also showed an anisometric profile, which contributed to an increase in the interactions between particles during flow. Therefore, the suspensions could not be processed at high solids loadings. Aqueous-based glass suspensions were also characterized by shear thickening after the addition of dispersants. Three slurry compositions were formulated, suitable green tapes were cast, and tapes were successfully laminated by LOM to a gear wheel geometry. A higher tensile strength of the green tapes corresponded to a higher tensile strength of the laminates. Thermal treatment was then applied to the laminates: pyrolysis at 525 degrees C, sintering at 700 degrees C for 1 h, and crystallization at 850 degrees C for 30 min. A 20% volumetric shrinkage was observed, but no surface flaws or inhomogeneous areas were detected. The sintered part maintained the curved edges and internal profile after heat treatment.
