The model of autonomy developed by the Aland Isles can provide a number of interesting solutions applicable in other territories. Territorial autonomy as a manner of ensuring the political and economic rights of the minority involves facing up to the challenges of European integration and globalization. It seems that the Aland Isles have successfully coped with this challenge. Firstly, they were able to present and promote their own interests during the accession negotiations in an efficient manner. Secondly, they maintained (and additionally strengthened by including it in the aquis communitaire) their separate, autonomous status and the guarantees of identity protection by virtue of limiting the rights of persons without domicile rights to purchase land and run business activity. Thirdly, they managed to obtain a special status excluding them from the process of indirect tax harmonization, thus ensuring considerable economic benefits. Fourthly, both Finland and the European Union confirmed their autonomy, demilitarization and neutrality allowing the Isles to retain their former status under the new circumstances. Fifthly, they obtained representation in the Committee of the Regions and a defined position on European matters in Finland. The skillful application of the existing solutions and the winning of an advantageous set of derogations and exceptions strengthened the position of the Isles both with respect to Finland and the international surroundings. The Isles’ economic, cultural and political protection was augmented. Alongside their participation in international organizations, such as The Nordic Board, the Aland Isles have remained active and discernible on the international arena.

The aim of this article is to investigate how the European university education sector is being internationalized. The authors test „European Studies” programs, assuming that due to their peculiar character they are the forerunners of change, which results, among other things, from Europeanization processes. The field of „Teaching Europe” is mapped in the European Union and then a more detailed analysis is conducted in Poland and Germany. These allow the authors to formulate three models describing how universities in Europe are answering the challenges created by the integration process. The Polish and German cases further illustrate the dynamics of „European Studies” development, as well as differences in general aims, disciplinary construction as well as level of internationalization. Various geographical patterns of enhanced collaboration are revealed by the research when checking Double Degree programs.

The paper discusses the Polish presidency of the EU Council in terms of its priorities. It analyzes the circumstances of their formulation, selection and implementation. The authors answer the question of what influenced the selection of Poland’s priorities and what selection mechanisms were applied. Additionally, they examine how the national agenda was ‘concealed’ in Community rhetoric. Thus, the analytical part discusses the political and legal path that determined the priorities. The EU agenda, Polish ambitions and the context of the trio is also presented. The paper concludes with the authors’ assessment of the implementation of the priorities.

Research into borders and frontiers in the context of European integration has evolved, leading to the question of the shape of the external borders of the EU and their organization in relation to the external surroundings. The approach to how the unification processes of the continent are presented has recently changed, and the Union is being perceived through its peripheries. The one-way model of the flow of ideas from the center to the peripheries has been replaced by a two-way one. This allows us to use the Westfalen, imperial and neo-medieval geopolitical model to analyze the EU and, consequently, the four geo-strategies that are regionally diversified in the northern, eastern and southern peripheries of the Union. Nevertheless, it is the periphery that plays the key role and initiates certain types of relations with neighbors, whereas the center approves of them and modifies them, according to its own requirements.

A qualidade dos alimentos é um conceito que tem vindo a despertar o interesse das indústrias e dos consumidores, daí a preocupação em conservar os produtos sob condições adequadas, evitando alterações físicas e químicas que ponham em causa a integridade dos alimentos, bem como as suas propriedades nutricionais e sensoriais. Deste modo, foi realizado um estudo para avaliar os efeitos do armazenamento sob certas condições de temperatura e diferentes tipos de embalagens sobre as propriedades dos miolos de nozes, avelãs e amêndoas com pele, embora no caso das amêndoas também se tenha estudoa do uma amostra sem pele. As amostras utilizadas eram originárias de Portugal, mas também de outros países, Chile, Espanha, Turquia, Roménia e Estados Unidos. O armazenamento das nozes durou 90 dias, e as condições testadas foram: temperatura ambiente; estufa a 30 e 50 °C, refrigeração (2 °C) e congelamento(15 °C). Os dois tipos de embalagem de plástico utilizados foram o polietileno de baixa densidade (PEBD) e polietileno de baixa densidade linear (PEBDL), comparando com as amostras armazenadas sem qualquer embalagem. No caso das amêndoas, uma das amostras apresentava-se sem pelicula. Foram avaliadas várias características dos frutos: a atividade de água (medida por um higrómetro), o teor de humidade (secagem em estufa até massa constante), a cor (com um colorímetro) e a textura (utilizando-se um texturómetro). A partir dos resultados obtidos concluiu-se que as amostras de diferentes origens são diferentes no que diz respeito ao teor de humidade, atividade de água e cor, independentemente das condições de armazenamento e tipo de embalagem. Os resultaram mostraram que as condições de armazenagem que melhor preservam as características estudadas dos frutos secos foram os de baixa temperatura, sendo observadas maiores alterações nos frutos armazenados a temperaturas elevadas, nomeadamente na cor. Assim verificou-se que os processos de refrigeração e congelação têm uma influência mínima nas características dos frutos, particularmente na humidade, na actividade da água, na dureza e friabilidade. Os resultados indicaram também que os frutos apresentam valores de aw inferiores a 0,6, para todas condições testadas, garantindo alguma estabilidade a nível das estabilidade microbiana e enzimática. A presença da pele no miolo de amêndoa, para todos os tratamentos, tem uma influência significativa na textura e cor. Finalmente, em relação ao tipo de embalagem, foi observado que o uso de sacos de plástico testados não parece contribuir para a melhoria das características dos produtos em relação às amostras não embaladas.

Chloroplast protease AtDeg2 (an ATP-independent serine endopeptidase) is cytosolically synthesized as a precursor, which is imported into the chloroplast stroma and deprived of its transit peptide. Then the mature protein undergoes routing to its functional location at the stromal side of thylakoid membrane. In its linear structure AtDeg2 molecule contains the protease domain with catalytic triad (HDS) and two PDZ domains (PDZ1 and PDZ2). In vivo AtDeg2 most probably exists as a supposedly inactive haxamer, which may change its oligomeric stage to form active 12-mer, or 24-mer. AtDeg2 has recently been demonstrated to exhibit dual protease/chaperone function. This review is focused on the current awareness with regard to AtDeg2 structure and functional significance.

W artykule w zakresie metody teologiczno-fundamentalnej przedstawione zostały następujące główne zagadnienia. 1. Konspekt edukacyjno-psychologicznych warsztatów, 2. Uzasadnienie metodyczne i metodologiczne przyjętej konstrukcji. W konspekcie szczegółowo opisane zostały kolejne kroki, które powinien podjąć prowadzący z pewnymi sugestiami ku czemu dane działania prowadzą. Szerzej zostały podane wnioski, do których prowadzący powinien podprowadzić uczestników warsztatów w obszarze teologii fundamentalnej – jako pomoc w poszukiwaniach celu, całości i sensu – wykorzystano elementy psychologii, filozofii, teologii duchowości. Procedura ćwiczeń przeprowadza uczestnika od pytań o samego siebie do pytań o siebie poprzez relacje z drugim, tak by uświadomić mu możliwość kontaktu z Drugim. W dalszej części przedstawienia opisano próbę odpowiedzi na pytanie „Co było potrzebne, od strony metody, by ten konspekt mógł powstać?” Koniecznym było skonstruowanie swoistej metafory i opracowano narrację, które razem stały się hipotezą wyjaśniającą obejmującą szerokie spektrum badanych relacji, pomiędzy konspektem i procesem jego powstawania a jego twórcą, procesem przeprowadzonych warsztatów a czytelnikiem, prowadzącym warsztaty a uczestnikiem. Na zakończenie przedstawiono ewaluację przeprowadzonych warsztatów.

W niniejszym artykule przedstawiono komponenty wchodzące w skład źródeł teoretycznych, będących podstawą powstania konspektu warsztatów. Treść artykułu nie wychodzi poza obszar metodologii teologicznej. Badania ukazujące przesłanki procesów zaaranżowanych w czasie warsztatów oraz podane wnioski końcowe wynikają z badań przeprowadzonych w polu analiz teologii fundamentalnej. Ta dziedzina teologiczna zakłada interdyscyplinarne łączenie metod i osiągnięć teologii i nauk antropologicznych. W kolejnych odsłonach ukazane zostały trzy aspekty odkrywania ludzkiego JA w dialogicznym napięciu z TY. Dzięki analizie transakcyjnej Erica Berne’a można ukazać, przy pomocy prostych technik edukacyjnych, że człowiek w poznaniu siebie potrzebuje drugiego w każdym aspekcie swego istnienia. Tym, co umożliwia mu bycie z sobą i innymi do zdolność wczucia. Tę kategorię badawczą analizowała Edyta Stein jako podstawę realnych relacji JA-TY, gdzie poprzez TY może zostać określony sam człowiek jako nie-ja, inny, drugi, czy ostatecznie osobowy Bóg. Możliwość zastosowania procesów opartych na wczuciu w przestrzeni relacji wiary doprowadza ku teologii duchowości. W jej ramach wypracowany został model antropologiczny, który widzi człowieka w ciągłym stawaniu się wobec innych i Boga. Przyjęta do badań praktyczno-biblijna antropologia Ignacego Loyoli pozwala na uwiarygodnienie kroków podjętych w czasie warsztatów, tak by nie były manipulacją a służyły wolnemu wyborowi uczestników w świadomym poszukiwaniu sensu i celu istnienia.

The Atlantic Water (AW) layer in the Arctic Basin is isolated from the atmosphere by the overlaying surface layer, yet observations have revealed that the velocities in this layer exhibit significant variations. Here analysis of a global ocean/sea ice model hindcast, complemented by experiments performed with an idealized process model, is used to investigate what controls the variability of AW circulation, with a focus on the role of wind forcing. The AW circulation carries the imprint of wind variations, both remotely over the Nordic and Barents Seas where they force the AW inflow variability, and locally over the Arctic Basin through the forcing of the wind-driven Beaufort Gyre, which modulates and transfers the wind variability to the AW layer. The strong interplay between the circulation within the surface and AW layers suggests that both layers must be considered to understand variability in either.
