In the product conceptualization phase of design, sketches are often used for exploration of diverse behaviour patterns of the components to achieve the required functionality. This paper presents a method to animate the sketch produced using a tablet interface to aid verification of the desired behaviour. A sketch is a spatial organization of strokes whose perceptual organization helps one to visually interpret its components and their interconnections. A Gestalt based segmentation followed by interactive grouping and articulation, presented in this paper, enables one to use a mechanism simulation framework to animate the sketch in a “pick and drag” mode to visualize different configurations of the product and gain insight into the product’s behaviour.

The aim of this work is to enable seamless transformation of product concepts to CAD models. This necessitates availability of 3D product sketches. The present work concerns intuitive generation of 3D strokes and intrinsic support for space sharing and articulation for the components of the product being sketched. Direct creation of 3D strokes in air lacks in precision, stability and control. The inadequacy of proprioceptive feedback for the task is complimented in this work with stereo vision and haptics. Three novel methods based on pencil-paper interaction analogy for haptic rendering of strokes have been investigated. The pen-tilt based rendering is simpler and found to be more effective. For the spatial conformity, two modes of constraints for the stylus movements, corresponding to the motions on a control surface and in a control volume have been studied using novel reactive and field based haptic rendering schemes. The field based haptics, which in effect creates an attractive force field near a surface, though non-realistic, provided highly effective support for the control-surface constraints. The efficacy of the reactive haptic rendering scheme for the constrained environments has been demonstrated using scribble strokes. This can enable distributed collaborative 3D concept development. The notion of motion constraints, defined through sketch strokes enables intuitive generation of articulated 3D sketches and direct exploration of motion annotations found in most product concepts. The work, thus, establishes that modeling of the constraints is a central issue in 3D sketching.

This paper describes a spatio-temporal registration approach for speech articulation data obtained from electromagnetic articulography (EMA) and real-time Magnetic Resonance Imaging (rtMRI). This is motivated by the potential for combining the complementary advantages of both types of data. The registration method is validated on EMA and rtMRI datasets obtained at different times, but using the same stimuli. The aligned corpus offers the advantages of high temporal resolution (from EMA) and a complete mid-sagittal view (from rtMRI). The co-registration also yields optimum placement of EMA sensors as articulatory landmarks on the magnetic resonance images, thus providing richer spatio-temporal information about articulatory dynamics. One of the existing issues in implant failure of orthopedic biomaterials is the toxicity induced by the fine particles released during long term use in vivo, leading to acute inflammatory response. In developing a new class of piezobiocomposite to mimic the integrated electrical and mechanical properties of bone, bone-mimicking physical properties as well as in vitro cytocompatibility properties have been achieved with spark plasma sintered hydroxyapatite (HA)-barium titanate (BaTiO3) composites. However, the presence of BaTiO3 remains a concern towards the potential toxicity effect. To address this issue, present work reports the first result to conclusively confirm the non-toxic effect of HA-BaTiO3 piezobiocomposite nanoparticulates, in vivo. Twenty BALB/c mice were intraarticularly injected at their right knee joints with different concentrations of HA-BaTiO3 composite of up to 25 mg/ml. The histopathological examination confirmed the absence of any trace of injected particles or any sign of inflammatory reaction in the vital organs, such as heart, spleen, kidney and liver at 7 days post-exposure period. Rather, the injected nanoparticulates were found to be agglomerated in the vicinity of the knee joint, surrounded by macrophages. Importantly, the absence of any systemic toxicity response in any of the vital organs in the treated mouse model, other than a mild local response at the site of delivery, was recorded. The serum biochemical analyses using proinflammatory cytokines (TNF-alpha and IL-1 beta) also complimented to the non-immunogenic response to injected particulates. Altogether, the absence of any inflammatory/ adverse reaction will open up myriad of opportunities for BaTiO3 based piezoelectric implantable devices in biomedical applications.

The development of new implantable biomaterials requires bone-mimicking physical properties together with desired biocompatible property. In continuation to our earlier published research to establish compositional dependent multifunctional bone-like properties and cytocompatibility response of hydroxyapatite (HA)-BaTiO3 composites, the toxicological property evaluation, both invitro and invivo, were conducted on HA-40wt% BaTiO3 and reported in this work. In particular, this work reports invitro cytotoxicity of mouse myoblast cells as well as invivo long-term tissue and nanoparticles interaction of intra-articularly injected HA-40wt% BaTiO3 and BaTiO3 up to the concentration of 25mg/mL in physiological saline over 12weeks in mouse model. The careful analysis of flow cytometry results could not reveal any statistically significant difference in terms of early/late apoptotic cells or necrotic cells over 8d in culture. Extensive histological analysis could not record any signature of cellular level toxicity or pronounced inflammatory response in vital organs as well as at knee joints of Balb/c mice after 12weeks. Taken together, this study establishes nontoxic nature of HA-40wt% BaTiO3 and therefore, HA-40wt% BaTiO3 can be used safely for various biomedical applications.

We propose apractical, feature-level and score-level fusion approach by combining acoustic and estimated articulatory information for both text independent and text dependent speaker verification. From a practical point of view, we study how to improve speaker verification performance by combining dynamic articulatory information with the conventional acoustic features. On text independent speaker verification, we find that concatenating articulatory features obtained from measured speech production data with conventional Mel-frequency cepstral coefficients (MFCCs) improves the performance dramatically. However, since directly measuring articulatory data is not feasible in many real world applications, we also experiment with estimated articulatory features obtained through acoustic-to-articulatory inversion. We explore both feature level and score level fusion methods and find that the overall system performance is significantly enhanced even with estimated articulatory features. Such a performance boost could be due to the inter-speaker variation information embedded in the estimated articulatory features. Since the dynamics of articulation contain important information, we included inverted articulatory trajectories in text dependent speaker verification. We demonstrate that the articulatory constraints introduced by inverted articulatory features help to reject wrong password trials and improve the performance after score level fusion. We evaluate the proposed methods on the X-ray Microbeam database and the RSR 2015 database, respectively, for the aforementioned two tasks. Experimental results show that we achieve more than 15% relative equal error rate reduction for both speaker verification tasks. (C) 2015 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

The tribe Iphigenieae (Colchicaceace, Liliales) includes two genera, viz. Camptorrhiza and Iphigenia, which are distributed in Africa, India, and Australasia. Iphigenia is represented by 12 species, of which six occur in India while Camptorrhiza comprises one species each in Africa (C. strumosa) and India (C. indica). The genus Camptorrhiza possesses a knee-shaped tuber attached to the corms, filaments with a thick bulge in the middle and styles with single stigma. Iphigenia on the other hand lacks knee-shaped tuber, bears linear filaments and has styles with three stigmas. Camptorrhiza indica possesses ovoid corms, linear filaments and styles with a single stigma. These characters are intermediate between Iphigenia and Camptorrhiza and hence we studied the cytogenetics and phylogenetic placement of this species to ascertain its generic identity. Somatic chromosome count (2n = 22) and karyotypic features of C. indica are very similar to that of Iphigenia species. Molecular phylogenetic studies based on atpB-rbcL, rps16, trnL, and trnL-F regions showed that C. indica is nested within a lineage of Indian Iphigenia species. Thus, C. indica was reduced to a species of Iphigenia, i.e., I. ratnagirica. Camptorrhiza is now a monotypic genus restricted only to southern Africa. A key to the Indian Iphigenia species is provided. In addition, a new combination Wurmbea novae-zelandiae is proposed for Iphigenia novae-zelandiae.

Resumen: El objetivo de este trabajo analizar las prácticas de un partido sub-nacional y de oposición en una coyuntura electoral: el Partido Socialista de la Provincia de Buenos Aires (PSBA) de caras a las elecciones legislativas de 2013. Este artículo se propone hacer un doble juego entre supuestos teóricos y evidencia empírica. En ese sentido, intentaremos definir los problemas que se desprenden de tomar al partido político como unidad de* análisis: la heteronomía normativa, económica y funcional, y la compleja articulación de intereses. Ofreceremos un contrapunto empírico para confrontar dichas discusiones y analizar la combinación entre prácticas informales e instituciones formales en la toma de decisiones, conformación de coaliciones y confección de listas electorales. Nuestra hipótesis es que el PSBA muestra un despliegue de prácticas informales muchas veces explicado por condicionantes tales como la heteronomía y por la dificultad de articular eficientemente los intereses divergentes en su seno, las decisiones políticas son fruto de la compleja interacción de todas esas variables.

Este artículo presenta los primeros resultados de una investigación mayor que se ubica en la articulación entre las políticas educativas de incorporación de TIC y el discurso docente de nivel medio, considerando dicha articulación en el marco del imaginario tecno-comunicacional contemporáneo. Ante los procesos de internacionalización de la toma de decisiones, la hegemonía neoliberal como paradigma socio-económico y los discursos de la Sociedad de la Información, Argentina, y en general los Estados nacionales, han sido permeables a los discursos sociales que promueven la incorporación de TIC. Este trabajo, desde una perspectiva socio-discursiva, se focaliza en el nivel de las políticas educativas definidas por el Estado argentino en la última década. A partir del rastreo de líneas de sentido que atraviesan los discursos analizados, se observa una búsqueda de distanciamiento del abordaje instrumental y el desplazamiento hacia otros núcleos significantes como formación ciudadana e inclusión social.

Resumen: El autor propone el relato de una experiencia ocurrida en el marco del acompañamiento espiritual de jóvenes universitarios, y una articulación teológica en la que reflexiona a partir de ese acontecimiento. Se busca experimentar caminos que articulen el lenguaje teológico a partir de experiencias concretas y particulares, de las cuales puedan destilarse conceptos para pensar la vida y la teología. Entre la provocación de la gracia y la mistagogía de la fe, los maestros de vida que son también maestros de doctrina, ensayan senderos de articulación entre ambos mundos pensando una teología significativa más allá de los muros de la misma teología.

[ES]En este trabajo se estudia el uso de los marcadores del discurso y del asíndeton como medios de articulación textual entre los diversos enunciados que constituyen los "Progumnásmata" de Nicolao. Este estudio permite observar si existen diferencias entre las dos partes que componen la edición de Felten y si el uso de partículas de Nicolao es diferente del que hacen los demás autores de "Progumnásmata".
