Foi no âmbito da realização da investigação, que tem como propósito geral contribuir para o conhecimento na área de Recursos Humanos, que efetuamos este estudo definindo como tema os contributos do Otimismo e Adaptabilidade para a Empregabilidade. Tem como objetos de estudo as práticas de Acolhimento & Integração das Pessoas no Grupo Valpi e de que forma o otimismo, reforça e se correlaciona com esse processo. Adicionalmente, procura avaliar o nível de empregabilidade dos seus colaboradores na sua dimensão da adaptabilidade pessoal, especialmente o papel do otimismo, tendo como base o modelo de Fugate, Kinicki e Ashforth (2004). A metodologia de investigação seguiu uma abordagem metodológica mista, por inquérito de pesquisa quantitativa e qualitativa, com recurso à utilização de instrumentos de recolha de dados, respetivamente, por questionário e por entrevista, utilizando a técnica de grupo de discussão focalizada. O questionário de escala de resposta do tipo Likert já existente, suportando o modelo de investigação proposto e as variáveis em estudo, foi aplicado a uma amostra intencional da população, por conveniência e aleatória. Foram inquiridos cem participantes por questionário e participaram cinco elementos no grupo de discussão focalizada, tendo sido neste caso escolhido uma amostra por conveniência e não aleatória, com interlocutores privilegiados da empresa. Os dados deste estudo permitem-nos concluir que o otimismo é uma variável relevante quer do ponto de vista da organização, quer do ponto de vista do individuo.

The performance of the Weather Research and Forecast (WRF) model in wind simulation was evaluated under different numerical and physical options for an area of Portugal, located in complex terrain and characterized by its significant wind energy resource. The grid nudging and integration time of the simulations were the tested numerical options. Since the goal is to simulate the near-surface wind, the physical parameterization schemes regarding the boundary layer were the ones under evaluation. Also, the influences of the local terrain complexity and simulation domain resolution on the model results were also studied. Data from three wind measuring stations located within the chosen area were compared with the model results, in terms of Root Mean Square Error, Standard Deviation Error and Bias. Wind speed histograms, occurrences and energy wind roses were also used for model evaluation. Globally, the model accurately reproduced the local wind regime, despite a significant underestimation of the wind speed. The wind direction is reasonably simulated by the model especially in wind regimes where there is a clear dominant sector, but in the presence of low wind speeds the characterization of the wind direction (observed and simulated) is very subjective and led to higher deviations between simulations and observations. Within the tested options, results show that the use of grid nudging in simulations that should not exceed an integration time of 2 days is the best numerical configuration, and the parameterization set composed by the physical schemes MM5–Yonsei University–Noah are the most suitable for this site. Results were poorer in sites with higher terrain complexity, mainly due to limitations of the terrain data supplied to the model. The increase of the simulation domain resolution alone is not enough to significantly improve the model performance. Results suggest that error minimization in the wind simulation can be achieved by testing and choosing a suitable numerical and physical configuration for the region of interest together with the use of high resolution terrain data, if available.

Our society relies on energy for most of its activities. One application domain inciding heavily on the energy budget regards the energy consumption in residential and non-residential buildings. The ever increasing needs for energy, resulting from the industrialization of developing countries and from the limited scalability of the traditional technologies for energy production, raises both problems and opportunities. The problems are related to the devastating effects of the greenhouse gases produced by the burning of oil and gas for energy production, and from the dependence of whole countries on companies providing gas and oil. The opportunities are mostly technological, since novel markets are opening for both energy production via renewable sources, and for innovations that can rationalize energy usage. An enticing research effort can be the mixing of these two aspects, by leveraging on ICT technologies to rationalize energy production, acquisition, and consumption. The ENCOURAGE project aims to develop embedded intelligence and integration technologies that will directly optimize energy use in buildings and enable active participation in the future smart grid environment.The primary application domains targeted by the ENCOURAGE project are non-residential buildings (e.g.: campuses) and residential buildings (e.g.: neighborhoods). The goal of the project is to achieve 20% of energy savings through the improved interoperability between various types of energy generation, consumption and storage devices; interbuilding energy exchange; and systematic performance monitoring.

The concept of differentiation and integration to non-integer order has its origins in the seventeen century. However, only in the second-half of the twenty century appeared the first applications related to the area of control theory. In this paper we consider the study of a heat diffusion system based on the application of the fractional calculus concepts. In this perspective, several control methodologies are investigated and compared. Simulations are presented assessing the performance of the proposed fractional-order algorithms.

The confluence of education with the evolution of technology boosted the paradigm shift of the face-to-face learning to distance learning. In this scenario e-Learning plays an essential role as a facilitator of the teaching/learning process. However new demands associated with the new Web paradigm require that existent e-Learning environments characterized mostly by monolithic systems begin interacting with new specialized services. In this decentralized scenario the definition of a strategy of interoperability is the cornerstone to ensure the standardization communication among systems. This paper presents a definition of an interoperability strategy for an e-Learning environment at our School (ESEIG) called PEACE – Project for ESEIG Academic Content Environment. This new interoperability model relies on the application of several coordination and integration standards on several services, controlled by teachers and students, and included in the PEACE environment such as social networks, repositories, libraries, e-portfolios, intelligent tutors, recommendation systems and virtual classrooms.

Optical and electron microscopical evidences of focal matrix degradation were frequently seen in liver sections of periportal fibrosis caused by schistosomiasis mansoni in man. The material came from 14 wedge hepatic biopsies taken from patients with chronic advanced hepatosplenic disease and undergoing operations for the relief of portal hypertension. Besides the presence of focal areas of rarefaction, fragmentation and dispersion of collagen fibers, the enlarged portal spaces also showed hyperplasia of elastic tissue and disarray of smooth muscle fibers following destruction of portal vein branches. Eggs were scanty in the tissue sections, and matrix degradation probably represented involuting changes related to the progressive diminution of parasite-related aggression, which occurs spontaneously with age or after cure by chemotherapy. The changes indicative of matrix degradation now described are probably the basic morphological counterpart of periportal fibrosis involution currently being documented by ultrasonography in hepatosplenic patients submitted to curative chemotherapy.

RESUMO - Nas últimas décadas, a especialização dos cuidados médicos tem conduzido a uma fragmentação do sistema de prestação, que, associada a uma deficiente coordenação entre serviços, cuidados e prestadores, torna a navegabilidade dos utentes nos sistemas de saúde uma tarefa complexa. Um novo modelo de organização, assente na procura de valor para os cidadãos, deve adoptar uma abordagem sistémica, que tenha subjacente uma coordenação integrada de serviços, numa perspectiva de ciclo de cuidados. Reorientar a prestação de cuidados para a obtenção de resultados e valor em saúde, exige uma reengenharia em torno da estrutura, organização e avaliação1 dos cuidados, requerendo, nomeadamente: i) instrumentos e ferramentas que auxiliem e estruturem este novo modelo; ii) assumpção dos papéis definidos para cada um dos actores do sistema, nomeadamente ao nível da coordenação; iii) encorajamento à adopção de modelos de contratualização, pagamento e competição, que responsabilizem os actores envolvidos não só pela prática que desenvolvem, mas pelos resultados em saúde. Estes mecanismos constituem uma oportunidade para expandir e sustentar abordagens, programas e intervenções integradas. Investir num sistema de pagamento por valor em saúde — P4V — payment for value, traduz uma aposta na relação entre diagnóstico, tratamento, resultados clínicos e custos, enquanto estratégia para assegurar ganhos em qualidade dos cuidados, eficiência dos processos e valor em saúde para o cidadão. Neste contexto, a gestão da doença enquanto modelo direccionado para o reforço da perspectiva e participação activa do cidadão, e avaliação compreensiva de novas formas de organização e gestão do sistema de prestação, constitui um instrumento para informar e sustentar esse processo de reengenharia do sistema. Um modelo que procura assegurar o encontro entre o estado da arte na prestação de cuidados e um nível óptimo, garantindo a qualidade de vida expectável para a pessoa com doença crónica. ----------------- ---------ABSTRACT – In the last decades advanced medical sciences trend to specialized care and fragmented health systems, leaving patients with a challenge on navigating services and care, requiring them to see a sequence of specialists each delivering discrete interventions. To overcome these challenges, every health system must redefine health care delivery to use its resources more efficiently and improve quality of care through an organization of the system as a whole. A system currently organized around value for patients, entails a framework that comprises the entire set of activities needed to address a patient´s medical condition, over the full cycle of care. Value- based care delivery therefore requires an integrated practice, both across services and time, and implies a movement through new structures, organization models, evaluation efforts and payment systems that enables, catalyze and reinforces the extension and sustainability of the steps needed to the change required. A shift from a payment for performance to a payment for value focuses attention on maximizing the overall value of care, and encourages coordination and integration between components of care that extends from screening, diagnoses, all the way through treatment, outcomes and costs, and ensuring an incentive for potentially high value types of care as well as innovation. These leave the actors of the system with the task of best allocating and valuing components of care. Disease management as a model designed to structure patient engagement and involvement in their care, and assure a comprehensive evaluation and monitoring of new organization and care delivery strategies align an opportunity as a source of information and sustainability for the progress of a growing number of likeminded efforts now underway across care delivery for chronic diseases. Gottfried Leibniz generalized the derivation and integration, extending the operators from integer up to real, or even complex, orders. It is presently recognized that the resulting models capture long term memory effects difficult to describe by classical tools. Leon Chua generalized the set of lumped electrical elements that provide the building blocks in mathematical models. His proposal of the memristor and of higher order elements broadened the scope of variables and relationships embedded in the development of models. This paper follows the two directions and proposes a new logical step, by generalizing the concept of junction. Classical junctions interconnect system elements using simple algebraic restrictions. Nevertheless, this simplistic approach may be misleading in the presence of unexpected dynamical phenomena and requires including additional “parasitic” elements. The novel γ-junction includes, as special cases, the standard series and parallel connections and allows a new degree of freedom when building models. The proposal motivates the search for experimental and real world manifestations of the abstract conjectures.

This work presents the integration of obstacle detection and analysis capabilities in a coherent and advanced C&C framework allowing mixed-mode control in unmanned surface systems. The collision avoidance work has been successfully integrated in an operational autonomous surface vehicle and demonstrated in real operational conditions. We present the collision avoidance system, the ROAZ autonomous surface vehicle and the results obtained at sea tests. Limitations of current COTS radar systems are also discussed and further research directions are proposed towards the development and integration of advanced collision avoidance systems taking in account the different requirements in unmanned surface vehicles.

The use of robotic vehicles for environmental modeling is discussed. This paper presents diverse results in autonomous marine missions with the ROAZ autonomous surface vehicle. The vehicle can perform autonomous missions while gathering marine data with high inertial and positioning precision. The underwater world is an, economical and environmental, asset that need new tools to study and preserve it. ROAZ is used in marine environment missions since it can sense and monitor the surface and underwater scenarios. Is equipped with a diverse set of sensors, cameras and underwater sonars that generate 3D environmental models. It is used for study the marine life and possible underwater wrecks that can pollute or be a danger to marine navigation. The 3D model and integration of multibeam and sidescan sonars represent a challenge in nowadays. Adding that it is important that robots can explore an area and make decisions based on their surroundings and goals. Regard that, autonomous robotic systems can relieve human beings of repetitive and dangerous tasks.

This paper presents the design of low cost, small autonomous surface vehicle for missions in the coastal waters and specifically for the challenging surf zone. The main objective of the vehicle design described in this paper is to address both the capability of operation at sea in relative challenging conditions and maintain a very low set of operational requirements (ease of deployment). This vehicle provides a first step towards being able to perform general purpose missions (such as data gathering or patrolling) and to at least in a relatively short distances to be able to be used in rescue operations (with very low handling requirements) such as carrying support to humans on the water. The USV is based on a commercially available fiber glass hull, it uses a directional waterjet powered by an electrical brushless motor for propulsion, thus without any protruding propeller reducing danger in rescue operations. Its small dimensions (1.5 m length) and weight allow versatility and ease of deployment. The vehicle design is described in this paper both from a hardware and software point of view. A characterization of the vehicle in terms of energy consumption and performance is provided both from test tank and operational scenario tests. An example application in search and rescue is also presented and discussed with the integration of this vehicle in the European ICARUS (7th framework) research project addressing the development and integration of robotic tools for large scale search and rescue operations.
